- Posts that do not carry a semantic load or posts whose content is less than 200 characters will not be paid.
I have such a voluminous semantic load ready to blow, it's got my hopping around my house as though at a rave, high on E, clutching my zipper and screaming "Baby, you got me!!!".

Now then.  Should any of you think you possess writing skills as imaginative as mine and so luminous that the words you read appear to be lit from within by a million suns, you may attempt to come at me with your tiny daggers but you will be slain by mine own hand with a sword forged from the hardest metal and sharpest of all edges.  I will write circles large and small around all of you, which I will then arrange into a symbol of shame for you to wear until you are finally placed face-down into your cheap plasterboard coffin and buried deep under the mountain of my genius.  ***This is a JOKE.***

Any takers?

How's that for an application?  When do I start?  Should I bring my fuckin' tools?
682  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: OK, I have to ask about this Electrum thing I saw on craigslist.... on: August 07, 2023, 12:44:59 PM
electrumcore dooot org is phishing site and have been discussion here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5455924.0
Ahhh, I did indeed miss that warning and I'll just lock this thread up instead of moving it to Scam Accusations since I'm not going to fill out a whole scam accusation form against this one anonymous person who's probably a group of scammers.  Thanks for being on the ball with that link.

The only thing he doing is asking the parties to download the software and put their seed phrases in it so they can use so-called escrow or whatever he says.
Yeah, I was pretty sure this thing is a scam but I wondered if I had stumbled across something odd that hadn't been seen before.  Guess not!  That method of scamming makes sense in this case, and I'll bet you're 100% correct that these scammers are just phishing for seed phrases from the naive, greedy, or just downright stupid people who might hand it right over.
683  Bitcoin / Electrum / OK, I have to ask about this Electrum thing I saw on craigslist.... on: August 07, 2023, 11:31:57 AM
I have a habit of browsing for stupid crypto-related stuff on the internet, and I happened to be on craigslist and did a search for bitcoin.  This is one of the results that came up, from a guy apparently buying large amounts of BTC at 12.5% above market price.  Oh, and:

Quote
I have an ID verified LBC/paxful account and I’m a pro trader. Unfortunately, they are closed now.

Lol.  But this was the image he used in his ad:

This is not the Electrum wallet we're all discussing in this section of the forum, right?  Admittedly I haven't kept up with any new developments but I probably would have heard about it if a software wallet managed to crack the problem of trust and the need for an escrow agent when two people transact bitcoin.  And that link is obviously not to Electrum's website; there's no way I'm visiting it without knowing what it is.

Anyone see something like this before?

Edit: Not sure if it's appropriate to keep that phone number in there, but it was made public in the craigslist ad.  Don't want anyone to crank call this....guy.  Or spam him or enter that phone number on various websites that require phone numbers.  Know what I mean?   Wink
684  Economy / Collectibles / Re: *Eek* A humble question from a Collectibles section irregular. on: August 07, 2023, 07:43:50 AM
Check your card's balance, if it hasnt been swiped by Yogg, its probably best to
sweep it yourself.
Yeah, I thought this was the Yogg thing but couldn't quite remember.  I'm not the original owner; I got the Coldcard in a trade with a Collectibles section regular (whom I'm choosing not to name out of his respect for privacy, but I'm cool if he chimes in).  There wouldn't likely be a balance and that doesn't concern me.

But to my point about HW wallets being a part of crypto history, it would seem like even the scam ones would be collectible.  They tell a story about a particular time and place, even if that story is one of black-hearted betrayal.  Or am I crazy?
685  Economy / Collectibles / *Eek* A humble question from a Collectibles section irregular. on: August 07, 2023, 04:28:06 AM
No bloviated preface like I'd normally write here.

I've reached a certain point in my life where my need for cash to live on far outweighs my need for new bicycle parts, underwear, haircuts, toilet paper, and collectible HW wallets.  Regarding that last one, I am trying to sell off some of my puny collection on eBay but they have a knack for locating sellers' orifices, finding spots for new ones, and then violating all of them until you're left with dust--which the government then taxes, but that's another story.

So I have this Coldcard Genesis Edition:

And the member I got it from will recognize it instantly, and to him I apologize.  Is there any interest in one of these?  I know I could hold an auction, but I'm reluctant to because I've never done one.

I've also got a few 2022 Ballet Lunar New Year cards and was wondering the same thing:

Any input (not of the eBay variety if you know what I mean) would be greatly appreciated.  You guys know this stuff like walking encyclopedias, and I feel like a palsied dollar store novel.
686  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Another crap Amazon wallet find: Material Bitcoin on: August 07, 2023, 03:48:42 AM
From a collectibles perspective, I reckon that some bitcointalk users will probably appreciate having this item in their collections.
I agree, because I see bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general as having a very long life, and at some point in their existence a comprehensive history will be written, and I believe hardware wallets will be more than a footnote.  In other words--and I've said this a number of times before--HW wallets are pieces of crypto history, no matter how shitty or scammy or un-secure they are.  They're sort of like what postage stamps are to the global mail delivery system.

And hey, I heard Coldkey mentioned and don't know much about its history other than it was the vector for a scam.  I'm curious, because I have a Coldkey Genesis Edition which apparently was produced in a run of 250 cards and I'm wondering what its collector's value is.  There's really no way of knowing any info like that, because HW wallet collecting (if it even becomes a thing) is in its infancy.

That's off-topic, but fuck it.  It's my thread and I'll jump naked out of a cake if I want to.  I did a search for Coldkey here but only got two results.

Edit:  Oh Jesus, I really should've tried to search specifically in the Collectibles section for the Coldkey, because I got tons of results (all out of chronological order of course) and also saw a couple auctions for other cards in the series I have.

AND when you've got people like MoparMiningLLC busting out threads like this one, it erases a lot of doubt about HW wallet collecting catching on.  Whew!
687  Other / Archival / Re: KuCoin can still be used without KYC on: August 06, 2023, 06:39:17 PM
- the ability to edit your specified name, surname and document number after the approval of verification. Why is this needed? Why does the exchange allow editing what has already been approved by the exchange itself?
- the exchange does not check anything from what you send to it, because it, in general, does not care what you send them. They don't care if you sent your real name or a fictitious one. I sent them my driver's license number, consisting of all zeros: 0000000000000, they accepted it and approved it.
All of the above is really silly on the part of Kucoin and any exchange that operates that way--you'd never, ever see a bank allow you to change your date of birth or SS# or any of the important stuff after you've created an account with them.  Whether Kucoin wants to retain customers or circumvent regulators, they're going to be in some deep shit if those regulators decide to conduct a compliance audit (though I have no idea what government body would be responsible for that).

And I keep thinking that someone on their team is going to see this thread and cause them to tighten up their registration policies.  I'm not hoping for that even though I don't use them.  They're a decent exchange and I wouldn't want anyone here to get KYC'ed off their site and onto a shady, non-KYC one.
688  Other / Archival / Re: KuCoin can still be used without KYC on: August 06, 2023, 11:36:57 AM
Nice experiment and great info, Ratimov.  What I don't understand is what you get on Level 0.  Can you withdraw anything at all?  You said it limits users' access to Kucoin's products, but I'm not seeing an obvious difference between Lv. 0 and 1.

Second, what the hell is Jumio?  Please don't tell me they're the new crypto-traders'-info clearinghouse that's either going to end up getting hacked or become an earpiece for whatever government wants info.  Then again, if you can up your withdrawal limit by submitting a phony DL number....

One thing, and it's a nitpick but for clarity's sake:
  • Lv.0 - 0$
  • Lv.1 - 499$
  • Lv.0 - 1999$
  • Lv.0 - 999 999$

For the native English speakers, that bolded number looks very odd with no comma; there ought to be a thousands separator (a comma);and USD amounts should be written with '$' in front of the amount, i.e., $999,999. Again, that's just me being persnickety but I have not yet finished my morning gallon of coffee.

689  Economy / Economics / Re: The American Dream. What is Your Country's Version of it? on: August 05, 2023, 04:29:12 AM
To OP and anyone else who hasn't realized it yet, the whole concept of an "American Dream" was sparked in somebody's head, got its 15 minutes of fame but is now just a quaint notion in some people's heads of how things used to be in the good ol' days.

Life in America isn't what it was like in the 50s-60s, where mom was a housekeeper and dad worked for 40 years at the same company, invested conservatively, and the family owned a house, a car, a dog, and all that happy horseshit.  Christ, just look at what Hollywood has done to Superman with the Man of Steel movie.  That ought to be a bright red flashing indicator light that pessimism has permeated every corner, crack, and crevice in society.

And in other countries?  I'm reading replies but as usual I can't tell who's actually thinking about this topic and who's just counting how many characters their fingers are typing.  IMO the concept never did and never will exist outside the minds of Americans.

691  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: One of the worst examples of a "HW wallet" on ebay I've ever seen on: August 04, 2023, 01:32:08 PM
You like to search for hardware wallets from third sources, the last time was Amazon and now eBay, no matter how low the price of these devices is, buying HW from a third party who may tampering the components which considered dangerous<snip>
Yeah I know.  Browsing Amazon and eBay for shit like this is what you might call a guilty pleasure, and I'm hoping threads like this aren't too annoying or distracting from all of the good stuff that gets posted in the HW wallet section.  And please note that I would never consider buying any of the crap I've posted about.  It's just that when I see morons selling tinker toys with "hardzware wa11et" written in crayon on the side, I feel like sharing it with the fine members of bitcointalk.

You just try and stop me!!

This user is scammer, when you connect the hardware wallet to electrum wallet, a small icon appears next to the green button, it does not exist in this screen shot, which means that the hardware wallet is not connected and that this user does not know anything about bitcoin.
He needs to improve his Photoshop skills.
What icon are you referring to?  And by the way, I just noticed that the version of Electrum shown appears to be 3.3.8.  I'm not sure if that jackass photoshopped anything, but I'm betting he copy/pasted that pic into his listing.  I'm also wondering if you ordered one of these things if you'd even get any Electrum software on the cheap stick.

Hello mate...

We already had a talk recently but I will provide a detailed explaination for everyone.
...
...
-> https://wallets.thebitcoinhole.com/
Tibu, the site you linked to is hard to navigate at best, because with the two browsers I used the horizontal scroll bar disappeared--but aside from that, where exactly is that conversation you referred to?

Also:

By the way Tibu, this question was never answered and I'm curious about it myself (though I don't recall ever reading that on the Satochip site:

"The Satochip hardware wallet has full BIP32 and BIP39 support and also supports the import of regular (non-BIP keys) such as vanity keys. Even more, private keys cannot be exported outside of the secure chip. Up to 16 regular keys can be imported on the chip. "

What does it mean? You can import into Satochip single private keys which were exported from, say, Core?
One by one?
It might not be the most important question in the world, but it'd be nice if you took some time and replied and did so in a manner that doesn't make the other party just sit there and scratch his head.  Just saying.
693  Other / Meta / Re: Search function stuck in pre 2020? on: August 04, 2023, 06:52:31 AM
This does not happen only in the forum. I have repeatedly encountered sites that have an internal search engine that searches worse than google. And I guess not all of them are broken. In the end I go directly to google every time.
I'm not a member of any other discussion forums anymore, but I believe you (and I do believe you're talking about other types of websites as well).

I guess there's a lot under the hood as far as search engines go, and I only understand enough about them to type in some words and hit enter.  Am I wrong in assuming that it's either difficult or a pain in the ass to create a functional internal search engine?  My further assumption that Theymos isn't a slacker and would have one running that didn't have members going to google instead is a valid one I think.  But then again, we've been waiting on that new forum software for years now.

In fact, the community has been actively joking about it for years, so I don't know which end is up if y'all know what I mean.
694  Other / Meta / Re: Search function stuck in pre 2020? on: August 04, 2023, 03:39:40 AM
Search function is not working properly. You can try using Google search and put site:bitcointalk.org after whatever you try to search.
If you could see my face you'd probably ask if I was rolling my eyes and laughing at you, but I'm not.  It's just so awful that one has to do what you described in order to search the forum--and I know damn well what you say is true; the search function is and has been broken for a long time now.

It's not just that most results are old or in random order or are only tangentially related to what you searched for, but it takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to search, to add names to your PM blocked list, to find members, and probably other things I'm not thinking of.  While it's true that I like the old-school vibe to the forum, it's the appearance I'm talking about and not the functionality.

This has to be a case of Theymos not wanting anyone to help out, right?  This is a forum that's jam-packed with very talented coders who'd probably love to improve stuff like this....and yet basic things are just broken for years and neglected for so long that everyone just accepts it as normal.  The first step is admitting you have a problem, Theymos.  I say that out of love, brah.
695  Other / Meta / Re: TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk on: August 04, 2023, 01:09:04 AM
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Not I, said the fly.  And I just used your site to host several images a couple of hours ago, and I've used it a number of times since you created it (and again I say, hail joker_josue!!).

That's really kind of philipma1957 to donate that much btc to you and to promote your site.  Now I feel like an absolute freeloader, seriously.  Funds are so tight right now that donating to anything isn't an option, but I'm going to write a note down in my little bitcointalk journal to do so if my financial situation improves.  Until then, keep up the great work man.  It's definitely appreciated.

is selling this:

loaded onto which is this crazy-looking, never-seen-before software wallet:

And it's ONLY $30!!  Ladies and gentlemen, I think this genius might just have put Ledger, Trezor, Keystone, and all the way down to Keepkey out of business.  Get 'em while they last.

Sarcasm out.  Can you believe this crap?  The dude would only have to sell one of them to make a profit, since that USB drive was likely purchased in a pack of 100 for pennies.  I found his listing a week or so ago, and I'm happy to say that he doesn't seem to have gotten any bites....yet.  The seller is operating out of North Carolina.  Hey, Quickseller:  isn't that your neck of the woods?  I could swear Vod doxxed QS and he was from that state.  Or it could be S. Carolina.  In any case, that's not an accusation, just my rambling thoughts.

In the very old days of ebay, you could leave any feedback you wanted for any member for any reason (sort of like the system here).  When I see scams like this, I wish I could just hand out a negative without having to buy someone's item.
697  Economy / Reputation / Re: Banned Accounts and their Merit Status. on: August 03, 2023, 08:47:36 PM
There are merit sources who get free smerits every month, there is no shortage of merit and there is no cap on it!
Reclaiming merit from banned users simply makes no sense as it would be distributed to merit sources, Theymos could just increase the allocated merit instead.
Splash one!  You beat me to it (as you always seem to do; maybe it's a time zone thing), as I was going to say exactly the same thing.  The merit system has been around for over 5 years now--way longer than OP has been a member, even though he claims this:

I have been a member of this platform for long now
And even with all of the members who've received lots of merits and have been banned, there's been no crisis of merits, no shortage, not even any real complaints that I've seen that the system isn't running smoothly.  A'ight, in the beginning there was a lot of fuss but that died off a long time ago.  So I second your sentiment.

698  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] SINBAD.IO [Mix Your BTC Quickly] Signature Campaign | Up-to $150/w on: August 03, 2023, 06:54:21 PM
It seems that the whole forum has lost a little enthusiasm in the last few days. I also attribute it to the summer period and vacation time, plus nothing significant is happening globally.
My posting slacked significantly this week, and it had nothing to do with vacations or anything of the sort.  I've been dealing with some serious family issues that have sucked up a lot of my time and mental energy.  You probably might not be able to tell from what I did post that there's a hornet's nest of chaos going on behind my screen, as I've been keeping a stiff upper lip, but that's why my output has been rather flaccid and blah.

On the bright side, some of what I've been troubled by has been resolved and so I'm going to start giving this forum hell again--and dammit, I'm going to catch up on those post history reviews!  I just checked my sent merit standing, and I nearly wept.

A toast to Sinbad.io!!
699  Other / Archival / Re: No-KYC Exchange Encyclopedia on: August 03, 2023, 03:56:54 PM
I believe that soon all the top exchanges will be with KYC, and in order to use centralized exchanges without KYC, you will have to turn to little-known exchanges.
Damn straight, and I think Kucoin was the last straw for a lot of people who want to transact on a strictly non-KYC exchange--and I give you props for researching all of this, Ratimov.

How small, obscure, and/or shady are you going to get with this list?  There are exchanges like Yobit that have been KYC-less for years but aren't used by more savvy members who've been around long enough to know what the problems are.  And there are some oddball ones like Xeggex, Exchange-Assets, TradeOgre, and others that seem to cater to those who want to trade the shittiest of shitcoins and yet don't seem to have that many complaints.

All of those instant exchanges are useful in some cases as well, though I don't know which ones are honeypots and which are legit.  Good luck, man!

Edit:

Quote
The order of the list is based on coinmarketcap data

Ah I missed that at first.  If you're only including exchanges included on CMC, you'll be missing a bunch.  I did notice SouthXchange wasn't included on your other page, and to my knowledge they aren't a KYC exchange and are listed on CMC.  Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
700  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When it's all set and done, do not forget those in need. on: July 31, 2023, 12:14:32 AM
It's inevitable that poverty will end, we'll always have the poor in our world and we can't help them all
So it's not inevitable that poverty is going to end--and if that's what you're saying, I have to agree with you.  Poverty, homelessness, drug addiction, all of these problems are going to be around as long as humanity is.  Think about how long humanity has been around and how much progress has been made in so many areas, and yet we've still got enormous wealth disparity all over the globe and there isn't a government or private organization that exists or has existed that's been able to rectify said disparity (or the other problems I mentioned).

This is why I have a grudging respect for some of the billionaires who donate a good portion of their wealth to charity.  Warren Buffett isn't leaving all of his wealth to his children, for example (which I find kind of funny).  I forget who he's bequeathed it to, but he's made it clear that when he dies his money is going to be put to good use.
