681  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is this idea to counter lost bitcoins possible? on: December 17, 2012, 08:55:23 PM
The problem I've always had with this proposal is that it doesn't specifically target "lost" coins. It targets unmoved coins. Period.

Why should I (or my heirs) have to choose between moving coins or forfeiting them? Is this really the only way to combat this? It seems very inelegant to me.

Just honored my pledge by sending 5 BTC to the Bitcoin 100 vanity address, TX ID: 9955afd2b35b52f8de669b6a747442641d58347f0977a8e577f9073642165da4
684  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why would an average person actually choose to use Bitcoin? on: December 17, 2012, 07:11:22 PM
There are two examples I like to use when praising Bitcoin:

1) I belong to another forum where some of us have bonded quite closely for having only met online. A few months before I came across Bitcoin, a forum member fell on hard times. Via private messages, some of us passed the virtual hat, as it were, and collected some money to help him out. Since members were located in Australia, Scotland, and the UK, as well as the US, everyone contributed to my PayPal account and I covered the fees as part of my share. If only we had known about Bitcoin at the time! Our friend would have received at least an additional $20 or so (it's been so long, I can't really remember off the top of my head) that enriched PayPal, instead.

2) I've had quite a bit of graphic work done for me since I started my online projects. Fortunately, I met a very talented artist located in England who understands my visions and always produces top notch work. He always responds to my emails in a timely manner, and almost invariably is able to produce a finished product by the next day. He also accepts bitcoins as payment. This means that the time elapsed from my initial email request to him receiving confirmed, irreversible payment for a job well done is often less than 48 hours. How often does that happen between individuals living almost five thousand miles apart?

I have two shirts with that design, but these words:

"Money doesn't grow on trees"

"It needs cryptographic keys"

Is that artwork yours? Can you please make this new version? I will buy a couple yesterday. If not, can I have some quality artwork to have them made myself?

No, it's not mine. No, I can't make t-shirts. I Shipped them with Amazon Yesterday shipping. Try google?

These shirts were available at Square²Wear, which doesn't seem to be active anymore. Gabriel Beal was their public face here on the forum, but I see he hasn't been around since February of this year. Maybe you can try the Contact page on the site.

I might also be interested in ink for an Epson CX8400 if the price is right.

Clearly a magazine with lots of issues.

Lots of sites using bitcoins at The Bitcoin List. I'll be updating it today with even more.

Unless you're sure you want to reply, please consider starting a new topic.

Why am I the only one who is bumping this thread? Seriously...

I know how side projects work, but we delivered the BTC to Edward and bought shares of UBTC. Now it seems GLBSE didn't even care to provide edd with shareholder information. I know there are no ill intentions here, but this is kind of disappointing to say the least.

Just sent another request for shareholder info. I'll keep you posted on results, if any.
690  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I lost my job, because of bitcoins! on: December 08, 2012, 05:14:12 AM
Sorry but i think your in the wrong, you should have consulted with your boss before accepting another " currency ".

Ive been in a similar situation.

I think he understands that he was fired for not consulting with his employer before advertising and  running his own "side business" of trading bitcoins in his taxi.
691  Economy / Speculation / Re: What kinds of people are selling bitcoins right now on Mt Gox? on: December 06, 2012, 04:38:10 PM
Miners have electric bills that require payment in USD.
692  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I lost my job, because of bitcoins! on: December 06, 2012, 03:52:35 AM
Are you sure your city isn't issuing licenses? Have you asked yourself or did someone just tell you? I've run into quite a few people who are misinformed about local rules, regulations, policies, etc.

When you say buying an existing license from another taxi business costs 35,000 USD, is that for the license only, or for the customers as well?
693  Other / Off-topic / Re: Strange unban request on: December 03, 2012, 09:46:42 PM
If this was indeed a post by a person, I wonder how he arrived here and to which topic he was attempting to reply. He seems to be saying that he was trying to respond to the i09 article; what made him think it was required to join in this completely unrelated forum first?

After perusing his statement linked by augustocroppo, it would appear that he needs some help with his reading comprehension.

Interesting. This sort of bolsters my theory that we will see the first Artificial Intelligence evolve from spambots.  Wink
695  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: General bitcoin license for services dealing in bitcoins? on: December 02, 2012, 02:42:44 PM
This sounds like the kind of thing the Bitcoin Foundation was meant to do.
696  Other / Off-topic / Re: Should I join Facebook? on: December 02, 2012, 03:57:13 AM
I have two seperate facebook accounts. One has my real name and face and its only "friends" are co-workers, close family members, and a few people I went to high school with. The other has my favorite internet pseudonym, the same profile image that I use as an avatar image here, and absolutwly no "friends" in common with the other account. Needless to say, the more anonymous account gets much more use but still contains no identifying information.

I am probably in a unique situation, however, in that my circle of online relationships almost never overlap with my RL ones.

You've read Satoshi's whitepaper, right?
698  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gavin's Visit to the CIA on: November 28, 2012, 03:54:57 AM
Actually, it was June of last year.
699  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin in its current form actually doesn't solve anything on: November 28, 2012, 03:51:06 AM
I agree that it's a social problem, but creating (or trying to create) an international currency we must look for ways of solving or at least avoiding this problem. Otherwise bitcoin will get infected by the worst deseases of traditional money.
bitcoin is a technical solution to a technical problem.

If you want a solutions to social problems you need to elect proper governments.

+1 If you want people to stop giving their money to financial institutions, you need to educate people, not create a currency that prohibits them from doing so.
700  Economy / Auctions / Re: Advertise on BitcoinClock.com for 30 days - Round #3 on: November 15, 2012, 03:03:33 AM
2 BTC sent. I'm at work posting from my phone so I'll get back to you later today with the URL and banner info.

hi edd, i still haven't heard from you yet (although i have received the 2 btc).

any time you want to let me know your banner info, i can put it up for you.

thanks.

Yeah, working crazy hours right now. As a matter of fact, I'm posting from work again (though not from my phone this time).

On a side note, that's one of the things I love about Bitcoin: paying a complete stranger who might live on the other side of the world for all I know was the easiest thing about this transaction.  Cheesy
