no, that was your money they took from you. no one on your plattform traded bitcoins for dwolla dollars, paxum dollars or okpay dollars, nor did they trade dollars from any specific person. they trade for US dollars and the whole point of people depositing dollars on your plattform BEFORE trading instead of just promising to pay them later is to make sure no one trading bitcoin has to worry about not getting paid. so when you credit virtual dollars to anyones account you in turn have to be sure you really received the real dollars first. you were the victim here. not the villain but also not the hero that saved the day. |

My initial obstacles was explaining how this would grow, how can we use Bitcoin in the mainstream world? Obviously as a merchant solution the answer is simple and Bitcoin is very appealing to adult entertainment sites, gambling and eventually larger retailers.
Right, Growth. Thats the key word.
So I prepare documents and business models and explain how much Bitcoin will make, how much it has made and its mistakes and how the community has fixed them. I have to explain the MtGox hack, the mybitcoin disappearance and the legal battles we all face.
With that said, I was hoping to get the following out of this post:
1. Some feedback of my thoughts.
2. Advice/Tips for my next investor meeting.
3. Overall ideas of HOW you guys see Bitcoin breaking into the mainstream market.
in my opinion, niche markets with very high pressure to find an alternative payment solution will be the first to adopt bitcoin. bitcoin isnt convenient enough for mass adoption right now. but where payments can be either extremely slow (see here for example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=52313.msg624195#msg624195) or fees eat away a big part of the profit. for paypal, the latter is pretty much everything in the price range below 10$, so its especially digital goods and services, see uploaded.to or bitcointorrent.com for example. adult and gambling sites are of course also under some pressure, the first because they often rely on buying out of impulse, the latter because players - encourage by the gambling sites - constantly move money to grab bonuses, with the sites having to share their profits from this behavior with the payment processors. but established companies are usually not the fastest adopters plus in gambling it only makes much sense when multiple sites accept bitcoin. for investors, i think you have to point out that this is a very dynamic situation. since bitcoins usefulness grows with adoption, growth will inevitably happen in waves of exponential growth. so waiting how things develop isnt the best course of action. there is a train to miss here. of course, you need a business model that either caters to a realistic group of people to adopt bitcoin rapidly or create that group yourself. a possible example of the first might be the esports tournaments i linked to before. if bitcoin catches on with those gamers, a shop where they can spend their winnings on things they like would profit from accepting bitcoin. a possible example of the latter might be okpay. right now they only have 300k customers but they are also only four years old. the amount of bitcoin users is similiar. right now, okpays fees are to high for most bitcoin users and bitcoin is most likely to arcane for most okpay users. but okpay users are pretty much by nature of the business model people with limited access to banking solutions and therefore likely to embrace bitcoin. so when either bitcoin or okpay start to grow rapidly, it is very likely that the synergy between the two incites growth in the other. i like the suggestion to show them how convenient it is to use bitcoin once people have adopted it. simulate some other ways to transfer money and specific amount and compare it to bitcoin. with bitcoin you pretty much have a copy/paste address plus entering a single password and the standard fee of 0.001. without any third party to worry about and proof of the payment in block explorer. let them compare that to tedious banking procedures, paypal fees, chargebacks and account freezes or people outright denying they ever received money from you. |

#2 win7 64bit some minor issues: - in the overview tab, when i hover over recent transactions, i get tooltips that consist of entirely black boxes. - sorting by address in the transaction tab is case sensitive, leading to very weird results like A < BUT < Bot < bat < x - transaction filter is also case sensitive - date selection box in transaction filter is white on white, which not only makes looks bad but also makes it very hard to distinguish between black and grey dates. - dialog boxes have a question mark button which as far as i can tell does nothing in any box. - german translation is incomplete and in some cases wrong or ackward (luckily nothing that can be misunderstood) |

Wenn jemand Ware für 100 Euro im Internet anbietet, dann hat er dafür mal 3 Bitcoins bekommen. Jetzt kann er diese dann in 6 Euro zurück tauschen. Die restlichen 94 Euro sind im Schneeballsystem der Spekulanten verpufft. Wer soll denn da noch so Mutig sein und mitspielen? Nichtmal die Schweiz hat den Kurszurz von 1,68 auf 1,02 in 6 Jahren verkraftet, sie drucken seit dem unendlich viele Banknoten. Wie sollte dann ein Anonymes Netz den Kurssturz von 30 auf 2 verkraften können? Gar nicht. Und jeder, der Schlau ist, kapiert das und nutzt Bitcoins nur um zu Spekulieren. Schneeballsystem halt. das einzige, was ich da rauslesen konnte, ist, daß du nicht weisst, was ein schneeballsystem ist. |

Warum gibt es eigentlich keine Updates? Seit Jahresanfang gibt es fast jeden Tag hier im Forum die gleiche Frage. Und die Programmierer sind nicht in der Lage, das Problem zu umgehen und einfach mal das Datum statt der Blocknummer dort einzublenden? Warum macht das keiner? Dann wäre der Client ein wenig besser. Statt "Block 140555" müsste einfach "Transaktionen bis zum 14.05.2011 geladen" da stehen.
das ist in der nächsten version drin, von der der erste release candidate schon veröffentlich wurde. könnte man wissen, aber rummotzen war ja schon immer einfacher als sich zu informieren  |

its incomplete, but its not false... what? they should have added 30 mins to explain exactly how this is accomplished, and why it may vary a little?

its not incomplete, its just false. bitcoin creation has nothing to do with the amount of transactions and it doesnt depend on the size of the network. it varies with the speed of growth of the network, not its actual size. ok, hashrate actually, but i think thats ok to leave out in a very brief description. |

The client currently reports how many blocks I have downloaded, but it would be useful for the client to also report the total number of blocks there are. That way I wouldn't have to check a website to see if my client has all the blocks.
the qt-client does. Also it would let me know about how long I have to wait before I have downloaded all the blocks.
it also has a progress bar, but not a time estimate. with the newer clients its rather quick though (something like a minute per day or so), so much less relevant. |

registriert habe ich mich mal. die preise ja sind halbwegs human. (ca. 5-10cent pro gb, wenn ich mich nicht verrechnet habe). ist auf jedenfall mal sehr interessant. ich bin der meinung, dass die zukunft von bitcoin mittelfristig bei digitalen gütern und dienstleistungen liegt, die weltweit verfügbar sind. irgendwelche restaurants in hintertupfing, die bitcoins akzeptieren, bringen kaum was, solange es kaum potentielle kunden im einzugsbereich gibt. und ob man das nun gut findet oder nicht, ein relativ großer teil des onlinegeschäfts ist nunmal downloads, porno und poker. downloads ist davon natürlich am leichtesten zu erschliessen. ich hoffe aber, porno und poker folgen demnächst |

Schau doch einfach ins Alternate Cryptocurrencies Subforum dort spielt sich das ganze Drama doch ab, das dürfte höchstens 1-2 Stunden Zeit in Anspruch nehmen. Ich habe begonnen Litecoin zu unterstützen da es keine unnötgen vorgeminten coins gibt und es durch scrypt keine direkte konkurrenz zu bitcoin darstellt sondern eher wie Silber zu Bitcons Gold gedacht ist. Aber wie gesagt, das Erlebnis das ganze Drama sich reinzuziehen und daraus Schlüsse zu ziehn kann mein Tip nicht ersetzen jo, bloss niemandem irgendeine information geben, die er auch durch lesen eines 40-seitigen threads selbst rausfinden kann, nech? schnellere trankaktionsbestätigungen ist imho eher ein lustiges gimmick und die vorgeminten coins finde ich auch eher banal. finanziell bringt es vermutlich keinen vorteil zu zeitpunkt x in eine neue chain einzusteigen ohne vorgeminte coins im vergleich zum einsteigen in eine halbwegs etabilierte chain, in der zu zeitpunkt x schon viele coins vergeben sind. bleibt also nur ein ideologischer aspekt und der ist mir persönlich völlig wurst. ich mache meine entscheidungen nicht davon abhängig, ob andere leute damit reich werden oder nicht. der einzige echte neuigkeitswert bei litecoin ist wirklich scrypt. da sehe ich aber nicht wirklich, wozu das gut sein soll. keine konkurrenz mit bitcoin sehe ich nicht als argument, dafür gibts merged mining. als vorteil kann man mining für jedermann werten. anderseits bedeutet das eben auch effizientes mining für botnetze. das halte ich für das gewichtigere argument. einerseits kann das sehr sicherheitskritisch werden, anderseits negiert es auch den vermeintlichen vorteil der fehlenden vorgeminten coins. denn wenn ich den entwicklern den reichtum (und die einflussmöglichkeiten auf den markt) schon nicht gönne, dann sollte das doch umso mehr für kriminelle gelten. |

Jeder für seine Dummheiten selbst verantwortlich. Die Evolution der Bitcoin-Forks und derer Derivate ist viel spannender - da dauerhafter. welcher fork soll denn beispielsweise so spannend sein? die ganzen blablubbcoins, die ich mir bisher angewguckt habe, fand ich alle erschreckend langweilig. bisschen parametergeschraube ohne irgendeine innovation. |

Zudem ist unser Gewinn bei weitem nicht so hoch wie du glaubst, tatsächlich ist er viel geringer und deckt gerade noch die kosten die entstehen. Ich muss ein wenig schmunzeln  Das Icoin Projekt soll auch eher eine Möglichkeit darstellen etwas Physisches mit Wert der bitcoin comunity zu eröffnen. Aber fragt doch bei euren Quellen oder Banken selber nach, mal sehen ob jemand eine gute Quelle für Silber findet im 1 Unzen (31.1g) Bereich, (Da man dieses Gewicht noch ohne grösseren Aufschläge mit der Briefpost versenden kann) mit Sicherheit, das es sich auch tatsächlich um Silber handelt, ich bezweifele es stark, aber vielleicht bekommt man wenigstens so eine bessere Vorstellung von der Realität. Nochmals zur Verdeutilchung 1 kg wird für den realen Silberpreis gehandelt unter 1 kg bekommt man NICHTS für den realen Silberpreis. Sowohl bei Gold als auch bei Silber verlangen die Händler Aufschläge. es verlangt ja auch niemand spotpreis. aber 45€ bei dir oder 32€ bei ebay ist halt immer noch ein ganz beachtlicher unterschied. und die händler bei ebay werden die selben kosten haben wie du + die ebaygebühren. |

sehr spekulativ und damit nicht wirklich eine faq-frage Lohnt sich aktuell ein einstieg ins Mining? da kann man wahrscheinlich einen längeren aufsatz drüber schreiben. stromkosten, hardwarekosten, räumlichkeiten, eigener aufwand können preislich jeweils sehr verschieden sein. Ab welcher Hashrate Lohnt sich solomining? die frage ist imho falsch gestellt. solomining lohnt sich eigentlich immer, die frage ist nur, ob man mit der varianz leben kann. Welche poolgrösse liefert den besten betrag für die hashrate <1Ghash; 1Ghash; 2Ghash; 5Ghash; 10Ghash; >10Ghash die frage ist merkwürdig. was hat denn die poolgrösse mit dem ertrag zu tun? Welcher Software liefert die besten Hashraten für Welche Karten ? das wird mit tabellen usw. vermutlich ein bisschen ausufernd für eine faq. außerdem ändert sich das wahrscheinlich öfter mal. Wie hoch darf der Strompreis sein? Wie kann ich meine Kosten reduzieren die beim Minern entstehen? Wenn ich mehrere Karten habe lieber auf ein Pool oder jede für sich auf einen Pool minern? mir scheint, das ist im großen und ganzen eher eine mining faq. fragen zu bitcoin selbst tauchen ja kaum auf. Wie verwalte ich es am besten wenn ich mehrere Computer habe.

the wallet encryption only protects the private keys, so an attacker cannot spend your coins. he can, however, see the balance in your wallet and on each individual address. so if thats an issue for you, you might use truecrypt in addition to the wallet encryption. truecrypt cannot protect a wallet thats in use, so for a regularly running bitcoin client the clients wallet encryption is still the best solution.

da ist die Sachlage ganz klar. Die Händler machen die Preise und nicht die Spekulanten. Etwas ungewohnt für einige hier, das echte Werte den Preis machen und nicht Allgos von MtGox, aber so ist es nun mal. Silber ist eine echter Wert und wenn er dafür soviel in BitCoins möchte sollten wir alle hier froh sein, das langsam der richtige Marketflow beginnt. Willkommen im Kapitalismus BitCoin:). Angebot und Nachfrage.
Wenn ich die Wahl habe für BitCoins echte Werte zu bekommen, würde ich definitiv den echten Wert nehmen.
Noch jemand da der Silber für BitCoins verkauft? Nein siehste Marktwirtschaft pur:).
Also laß Dir mal janich die Preise kaputtmachen, Du bestimmst hier als Händler. Diejenigen die nur spekulieren anstatt den BitCoin endlich in die Marktwirtschaft integrieren zu wollen, können dies ja weiter machen.
händler ziehen sich preise üblicherweise nicht einfach so aus dem arsch, sondern wählen sie so, daß sie maximalen gewinn machen. dazu muss man erstmal die nachfrage korrekt einschätzen. ich behaupte mal zu dem preis wird hier keinerlei nachfrage da sein. da ist es viel billiger, erst in euro zu tauschen und dafür dann silber zu kaufen. btw: silber und "echter wert"... lol, das ist ja mal ein klassiker. |
