721  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Philipma1957's attempt to rate current Manufacturers of Asic for home mining. on: January 28, 2015, 09:16:41 PM
Paid to advertise is ok in my book.  People that
follow the threads know the posters intent
but kudos for stating this in op.  Same thing as
running banner ads apply.  Thanks philipma1957.

This may help you out.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=820214
You will need a raspberry pi or I prefer to use a netbook for the low power consumption.
Fun and low cost to run but mining btc, neah!  Try mining an alt sha256 coin and trading.
Although trading altcoins has been stale this year, it is fun to learn how to and make
small gains.
Best of Luck! Grin
723  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASICMiner BE300S Samples Arrived, <0.2W/G Achieved at Board Level on: January 19, 2015, 07:15:41 PM
I understand squeezing the competition.
We just witnessed the squeeze for the last 10 months.

When your next competitor is charging $342 for a product that is less efficient,  why would you price your product at $250?
I don't think there are going to be enough rounds of these chips to keep weeding out competitors before you can enjoy a little harvesting.

Maybe I misunderstood your comment.
Maybe you were just saying you could lower your pricing down to $250 and still make money.

But, please.  Cheap hashing power isn't going to do anyone any good.
Pricing war.
Difficulty into the stratosphere.
Investors make shit returns.

In a nut shell cheap mining gear killed off LTC.  Gridseed blades were 3000 usd and ltc was 34 usd  .  gridseed blades dropped to  150 usd and ltc is 2 dollars.
If AM puts out a .33 watt 1.5th miner for  250 usd Shipped it will only serve to lower the price of BTC.
BTC diff-Price ratio is fucked up as it is.  I can not see the btc network working much longer without demand for the coins lifting price up and over the 500 dollar mark.

Miners didn't kill the price of LTC the market did.
True.  Little to none adoption of Ltc is hurting its value.  But it is also designed to stay within btc ratio which it is.
724  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: spondoolies price drop How will bitmain respond? on: January 16, 2015, 09:10:34 PM
Couldn't imagine it would be too difficult for a quiieter case/fan design given as many as they sell and markup value.  Probably good for them to hear our concern for next design.
725  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S-5 review. It has arrived some info is in! on: January 11, 2015, 08:50:08 PM
I love the fact that Bitmain always comes through with product and is always working on a new product just as they are releasing one.
I have always believed in home mining and am addicted to it's nature.
But truth be told hardware in the last year hasn't seemed to make the significant leap to pull ahead of the difficulty.
Yes, we can all buy the latest and sell in 2 to 3 months and buy the new hardware.
This just seems to benefit the manufacturers since they always have the hobbyist willing to buy.
I wish from a hobby only standpoint I could keep miners running, but I usually don't have the overhead
for electric costs vs just buying btc outright.

Short story Long, just wish Bitmain could step ahead of the minimal gains in new hardware only to
be  obsolete next month.  I know this is the way it just is, but can't help think they're r&d has the funds to really
help the home miner and the decentrilization.

what is your power cost?
It's low compared to everywhere else at $.09 kwh but running 7 - 8 S3+'s with btc being low made it tough to keep going.
S1's faired better at the start of last year.  Just trying to keep the btc mined without trading it in to pay expenses.  I don't mind paying
additional $250 or $300 in pud costs but why when you mine less than that in btc.

727  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Breaking News - Hashra 100 MH/s Scrypt Miner $ 450 - 600 Watts on: January 04, 2015, 08:08:07 PM
I tried asking him (lifeforcepools) if he had any updates at all from hashra. I specifically said that I know that his site specifies jan 19th shipping at the latest, but since hashra promised end of December, I was trying to see if he had any updates from him. All I got for a response was "As ive stated before..shipment before the 19th of January". I'm not trying to post any slander or anything, just stating that I actually got a response although it clearly didn't answer what I was asking. Perhaps he has gotten an update from hashra and just doesn't want to pass the info. I don't know.

Now I'm starting to speculate, I feel so dirty.

The fact that there are no official comments in thread for a while shows a lot.   I asked for proof anything besides a rendering.   With no parts, chips, etc shown I don't think there is a chance it ships anytime soon.

I really wanted to believe (as I want a new scrypt machine) but I'm afraid on this one you will not see the product anytime soon.
You and I both.  You need to realize all the other players (companies) with next gen scrypt asics
have all pulled out for reasons unknown.  Gaw, Zeus and the like.  Either due to increasing difficulty and timing of release
or the cost to produce.  I like to believe the latter since most companies know they can no longer sell these for whatever they want.

As always love the garage (ghetto) setup, just like mine.  You must have at least 3 different circuits in your garage though don't you?
I have a gable vent at the top of mine which I place a box fan blowing out and added some larger vents for intake, works great.
For sound control, other than fan mods, I considered building a sound baffle case out
of MDF and an itntake and exhaust fan, but maybe it's best open air while it's cold around 40f without anything running.
Waiting on taxes to purchase to try out. Can't wait another 3 weeks, eek.

Maybe they're reinvesting funds for the customer......not.
730  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: A sucker born every minute on ebay on: January 04, 2015, 07:13:31 AM
U1 and U2 sheesh was going to hook up my block erupters just for the light show Cry, now I feel stupid.
731  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Spondoolies-Tech SP20 on: January 01, 2015, 04:21:15 AM
Can't wait to get one to play with....waiting on taxes.  Need my garage warmer back.  Sound wouldn't be audible from a garage connected to the house, would it?  I could always turn my tv up like I used to with my S1's.  Thanks for all the info.  Twittling my thumbs in the meanwhile.
732  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S5 review on: December 31, 2014, 05:39:46 PM
Don't try outdoor fed air, too much moisture unless filtered somehow.  May work for awhile but eventually leads to corrosion.
There's very little humidity in the outside air here. There's as much actual moisture in the air at -20C and 90%RH as there is at 10C and 10% RH.
Yes but I live in the Pacific NW.  My bad for assuming these conditions are the norm.
733  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcment: Brand-new miner EMIC PowerModule - 5.65 TH/s on: December 31, 2014, 06:32:40 AM
Seems logical to have your "super reliable asic chip" displayed and possibly a video of it hashing.
Why post now without anything to show.  Pre orders from new, unknown companies here will
always be discounted.  Please send someone a miner if your legit.
734  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S5 review on: December 31, 2014, 05:56:30 AM
I'm happy with it at 400M. Any higher starts getting hardware errors which doesn't improve performance.

i dont get much HW errors, but hashrate seems to peak at 412MHz, at 425MHz its back down around the same speeds as at 400MHz
Can you try it at elevated voltage and see what happens?

not sure how to easily do this without a PSU capable of 13V at >60A, or even colder intake or higher airflow. temps are 55/53C with the back end of the heatsink reading about 33C where it contacts the PCB. using a cheap infrared thermometer, readings on the PCB range from 45-65C

I thinking he may be suggesting an adjustment in the software setting voltage (ie, as in the advanced settings on the S3+'s new firmware), I don't think the S5 has that option.
No, I was suggesting upping the actual voltage. Klondike uses some server PSUs and many of them can trim the output voltage a bit.
I have a few big adjustable supplies, but there's probably some leeway there for adjustment.

I was actually blowing off my deck today and wondering what -20C air fed through a gas powered leaf blower would do. Smiley

So at full clock with stock fan this is best set in a garage?  Is it feasible with fan mod at full clock for living room? Roll Eyes
736  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S5 review on: December 30, 2014, 08:03:57 PM

Bitcoin mining will come with noise hazard and heat!!!  for commercial mining operations you'll need the ear muff, no matter you use S5 or SP20.

I think this is where I take both you and SP-T to task for implying the S5 and SP20 are 'home' miners.  I unconditionally agree regarding commercial operations in data centers, server rooms, garages, etc.  But 'home' miners are in the home.  At stock settings, I believe neither of these would fit that category very well.
Agreed.  Home mining.... can barely support the noise/heat produced not to mention your only able to run a few of these without spending a thousand to upgrade your fuse box.  I used to enjoy the hum of the S1's in my living room and  even bedroom during last winter but alas that's not the case currently.  Healthy competition, maybe let's just hope were not caught in the middle.
737  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: The New Standard, 0.51J/G, 1155GH, Jan 8th shipping [Sales Open] on: December 29, 2014, 11:51:16 PM
Just curious how many S5's you guys are running at home.  I miss mining- sold my S3's after 2 months.  The difficulty to power cost just seemed too far off.  Since you can just buy btc now for cheap.  But dammit I miss running my machines.

what does power cost you? at 15 cents a k-watt   or more and there is no good choice
$.09 kwh western Wa.  But even then I within a month was making nearly half the btc then the prior month.  I'm not concerned with the current price of btc but more over acumulating it in a cost effective manor.  Curse these huge farms.  Antminers are rock solid in my opinion just can't see much value in pud cost of mining unless new tech comes out and doubles or tripples returns.

Yes, but roi getting back your 1 btc @ 12 mh is pretty much not going to happen.....thats the main reason for not even getting started.  I know its sad but its the truth.. unless ltc has a huge spike.

I have 2 30gh I'd sell.  Just need to hook them up sgain to verify they still work.  Original boxes and come with power supplies.
