This is a big reason that a lot of people in the UK are calling for revolution. Their are loads of protests that take place because of it. We might not be opressed physically or have it as bad as other countries, but our government is as corrupt as hell. Two of our main leaders went to court to DEFEND the banks for paying such big bonuses!

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/0f54735a-25f6-11e3-8ef6-00144feab7de.html

That particular link required a registration of sorts. If you could paste the full text to pastebin or something, that would be of help. Anyway, I've read about the UK. It's a society with big social differences, and the important positions are nearly all handed out to people who've been handed life on a silver plate, born into rich powerful families and then going to exclusive private schools. It seems like a lot of those people are completely detached from real life.

But the problem is, how do you get people to revolt when they do have food on their table and a roof above their head? Isn't this a revolution for intellectuals, for those who understand monetary policies and the banking system?

I mean, how much do the avg. joe know about inflation, and the inner workings of the financial system? And do he care at all?

Sorry, same story, different link: http://metro.co.uk/2013/09/25/taxpayers-foot-legal-bill-as-osborne-takes-on-europe-over-bankers-bonuses-4113431/

You're exactly right about the power being gifted, rather than awarded.

Regarding the food thing, not everyone is that privelaged. We have a massive difference in social classes in terms of opportunity and wealth.

You are probably right about this being more of a revolution for intellectuals, but we're always reading here about how our MPs have been claiming back stupid expenses from our tax money (like getting their moat cleaned).

I'm venting of course, but it's worth looking into further. I don't think the UK will revolt any further than these protests we're seeing, mainly due to the reasons you identified. Every-day people don't care because they have what they need. They are essentially paid-off and made ignorant by the people running the country so they can fly under the radar and live it up on tax-payers money.

They're defending each other (MPs and banks etc.) for the same reason I would defend those that I owed favors to.

I can't remember who it was who argued that Apple could pay more to these workers and change their lives, for some reason Gary Vaynerchuk comes to mind, but I don't think that it was him. But then if it is a drastic difference then it can have effects on the economy in those countries. Would be nice though if Apple took the hit on their profits to make the lives of their workers even just a little more comfortable.

We must also realize what looks as bad conditions in our eyes, may not necessarily be bad conditions in another country. The alternative may be no job, and go starving.

But remember the suicide nets put up outside. Must be pretty bad.
723  Other / Off-topic / Re: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose(country)? on: January 26, 2014, 01:42:40 PM

Born and raised in the United States, moving to Florence Italy (Italia !) my true home in the future.

This scene gives me an image of Ezio from Assassin's Creed II jumping around the rooftops collecting feathers and evading guards Tongue

Also the backdrop for Dan Brown's Inferno. I planned to visit once before breaking up with a GF and cancelling the trip. Looks amazing.
724  Other / Off-topic / Re: What do you guys think? on: January 26, 2014, 01:38:49 PM
They'll never have to work for a thing in their life.  It's unfair, but what can you do?   Undecided

Comunists tried to destroy this... fortunately they failed...

And ruined many countries...

So I think that having money is good thing if you get them without scaming or stealing...

We will be rich in other life Smiley (hopefully Smiley )

I'm all for getting rich, and doing well. But I'd rather know that I'd worked for it rather than been gifted it. Controversially, I'd rather make a million than win one on the lottery. Although I wouldn't be sorry that I'd won it  Grin
725  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do we really need so many kinds of coins? on: January 26, 2014, 01:35:54 PM
The only people who tend to make any real money out of these new alts are the people who make them, if even them. Pump and dump crap.
726  Other / Off-topic / Re: HSBC imposes restrictions on large cash withdrawals on: January 26, 2014, 01:32:37 PM
First they cooperate with Latin American drug cartels to launder money, and get fined $1.9 billion dollars.

What makes that figure laughable is that I think that's only a few days money to them.

Yes, I'm perfectly aware of that. The fine and punishment should've been much bigger.. But in reality the politicians were writing stern letters over and over, until finally everybody agreed to exchange some money to make it all history.

It's all hand waiving and a play for the audience. The fact is that the ones with the money controls the world.

But the bad thing is that people are blind sheep, so they will dumbly continue to use their HSBC accounts, and accept whatever restrictions the bank decides.

Exactly. That's the problem in having a leaderless revolution (not bitcoin, just in general). People won't know what's best for them until someone tells them in most cases.
728  Other / Off-topic / Re: How do you feel about this? on: January 26, 2014, 01:24:21 PM

Well, you want cheap devices, do you not. Can you imagine what would happen if all workes had a 50% raise in their wage? Correct, your devices would be more expensive as well.

iPhones and iPads aren't exactly cheap.

True, but the point that he was making is that an increase in their wages would be passed straight on to the customer, such that Apple could maintain their epic profit margins.

They are sitting on a mountain of cash, they could easily pay a lot more to their workers - but they will pay 'market rates'.

They could actually solve a LOT of poverty problems with the profits they have, but it's all about that word profit. And making more of it.

Remember, the two week period doesn't start for you when you sign up. The two week periods are global, so if you register after one week of the cycle, with enough posts, you'll be upgraded after just one week, when the levels refresh. This is what happened to me and confused me at first.
730  Other / Off-topic / Re: Justin Bieber Arrested on: January 26, 2014, 01:21:03 PM
Justin Bieber RELEASED with a bail and needs to collect 1 million BTC to be declared innocent and all JB lovers buying all they can. BTC price going to the moon with a 1 million percent rise in the price  Cool LOL

Haha, his fans would have no idea where to start with this!
731  Other / Off-topic / Re: Wireless electricity: the future of cars and robots... on: January 26, 2014, 01:20:01 PM
This is actually not the first time Wireless Electricity has been 'invented'. Tesla built, but never finished building a tower that was to distribute wireless power. It's an exciting technology that could change things a LOT. Think of wireless appliances. This would also mean the demise of the battery.
732  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Two peas in a pod: Cryptocurrency and charity funding! on: January 26, 2014, 01:14:10 PM
Absolutely! there would be no better way to verify whats going on besides documenting the project entirely. After hearing from Sean's Outpost that Jason King will be running across the United States to raise awareness about his Bitcoin homeless relief, I just felt a little behind as far as creating another charity that would follow his footsteps, since obviously you can't ever have too much help towards those in need, animals or humans. I would really like to see crypto have a big affect on my local area of Tampa Bay, Florida and South Florida all together. Eventually I wanted to travel around (as Jason King is planning to do so now) and record where the relief would mostly take place.

But before I file with the state and legalize everything, I wonder if I should change the name of the company? It would be nice to file this week with the State of Florida and actually have a name that came directly from the forum members themselves! Any and all input would be great! I can have a website made showing classifieds of dogs in need of adoption and so on, I would also intend to attempt to affiliate my crypto charity with current animals shelters and animal relief programs already in place, not only to raise awareness but to gain insight in how aid should be disbursed efficiently! inevitably it would also raise awareness of cryptocurrency all together!

Thank you for the input!

How about 'Fi-Dough' for a name?
733  Other / Off-topic / Re: How do you feel about this? on: January 26, 2014, 01:10:01 PM
I've been reading more and more about the poor working conditions of some of Apple's outsourced manufacturing plants. My question is, what are your thoughts?

I'm writing this from an iPad please bear in mind, so I'm not taking any high ground.

Is it enough for you to think about changing your device in future?

See this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2092277/Apple-Poor-working-conditions-inside-Chinese-factories-making-iPads.html

(Yes, it's the daily mail)

Well, you want cheap devices, do you not. Can you imagine what would happen if all workes had a 50% raise in their wage? Correct, your devices would be more expensive as well.

As for unethical and bad conditions, it's rampant everywhere. A lot of the stuff you use in daily life is either produced by poor workers, or is made by companies who participate in unethical business practices. Once a company reach a certain size, there's always something bad going on inside it.

True, it's really got me thinking about it in everyday life. The laptop I'm writing on now while checking my phone in front of the TV that my son is watching. All made affordable to me by the exploitation of other people
734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Bitcoin-themed flag WILL be place atop Mount Everest this summer, 2014. on: January 26, 2014, 01:06:40 PM
On a similar note, I'm planning on sending up a weather balloon with a Raspberry Pi attached to take pictures of near space hopefully later this year or next. I'm going to have my bitcoin QR code or address attached and get some pics of it in space!
735  Other / Off-topic / Re: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose(country)? on: January 26, 2014, 12:56:29 PM
but if you have enough money then you can escape from any punishment also  Wink

And as you know, we're all going to be rich when Bitcoin is worth a million next year. Then, as you pointed out, we can commit all the crimes we want!
736  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How is dying 'Rand' going to affect Bitcoin? on: January 26, 2014, 12:51:01 PM
Either way, it can't be BAD for bitcoin. We need more business to start accepting it there before it can become an alternative to Rand. Bitcoin could be a good savings option though if the value of Rand keeps decreasing.
737  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: will the bitcoin reach $1000 one day...? on: January 26, 2014, 12:44:28 PM
it's really a mystery what will happen. If goverments will start to control bitcoin like they do with fiat currencies, or ban it entirely, the price may acctually drop. I really hope this doesn't happen.

On the other hand I would really prefer if the price of bitcoin stopped at what it ist now. The variability in BTC price is really bad, `cause services are affraid to accept it as a currency, as it is risky. Little more stability would really help bitcoin to be widely accepted imho.

I agree, but how exactly would they do this?

I think the bitcoin economy could self regulate in terms of blacklisting stolen coins etc if there's a concensus on what a stolen coin looks like and it's verifiable, but I don't see how the governments can control it. Cash, for example, is preferred by criminals for a reason. It's untraceable. It's not impossible to trace a bitcoin transaction to a person, but it's not easy as far as I know.

If the government moves to remove the anonymity of bitcoin somehow, that will probably affect things. Not sure how they would do that though. Especially if you have an offline wallet.

Not seem him in much other than Get Him to the Greek, Sarah Marshall and Superbad.

Isn't that pretty much all he's been in? haha

Haha, yeah pretty much. He's well different in the Wolf of Wall Street. Going to watch the rest of it tonight. Loooong film.
739  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What would you sell at? on: January 26, 2014, 11:23:45 AM
unfortutely i need to sell to buy things and i borrowed money to buy alot f bitvoin so i have to pay people back.

my lowest sell piont is $1300 my ideal over 10k each. i am a buy and hold kind of lady normally but you have to spend sometime in life.

Yeah fair enough if you owe the money back. I'm sure it won't be long before we reach $1300 and you can start to repay.

yes was in debt and thought.. bitcoin is $100ish it's going to go up i am sure i can get my friends a 20% return. unfortunetely it all went into securities ... :\ (four exchanges shut down in a month) .. so it's been a journey.

I love this thread by the way Sutters I love hearing about what other thoughts are.
thats how you get insights! Smiley

Yeah it sounds like a bit of a long road but I'm sure you'll get there. Bitcoin will go up at some point with all the media attention it's getting now.

Thanks very much, that's what I thought when creating it. Good to stimulate conversation and see how others felt about BTC.
