Been mining for over 16 hours and no coins yet. Running mined and connecting to the client. No error messages. Approx 2x3000khash.

Also, the exchange needs a manual price... not sure what price to ask. Says 'insufficient funds' though there are funds and only one order that does not amount to more than the funds available
well i have been mining a short time now and some days indeed you get unlucky and won't find a block
but i made in 7 days 7 blocks divided in 4 times 1 block and one day 2 blocks received so per 24 hours about 1 block
now i have some more power at it i think cause i have 3 x 9000 khash and 2 x 14000 khash running
so i guess you probably need to be a bit more patient Smiley
do not forget that it can happen quick or slow even for me, because i think getting a block in 2 to 3 days is normal with my power

some 5970 are special editions which are kinda collectors items like the xfx black edition ones who have special boxes and such costs much more, and i consider them very rare which ofcourse make them costly even second hand
I saw one trying to sell his xfx 5970 BE for almost 650 euro so with current dollar value is a lot Cheesy

@P4man i just installed the latest ubuntu 11.10 but it would not work well in vm somehow it got screwed up big time Cheesy, and yes linux has a problem with the latest hardware as allways it tags along when new things come out windows is the first to have working drivers Cheesy

But my actual problem is the usage of programs the ladies use endless keystroke commands for their word and such which ofcourse not work in linux counterparts also the company whiteoffice would take me months of fiddling. So its easy linux will never be an option for me, i simply can not make the time to change everything so that the ladies can work like they are used to at their jobs.
I am not saying linux is bad i am just saying it takes too much time to change it all, now i just import the settings from the office when its changed again and they get the same keystrokes, logos, letters, whatever is needed and that all with minimum time from me.
Do not get wrong i myself use for example hyper-v server and server 2008r2 since i hardly spend much time in normal windows itself, i use like at the job basically cmd prompts. Yes i started to be lazy myself, when i have to work in true-unix 64 or the other unix system V i sometimes type the win cmds which obvious do not work  xD
I am sure that if the unix machines could be replaced and ms/intel could offer a similar performing system and the software running on it would do well on these, i would instant replace them to get a just one os in the whole company.
Sadly till today that is still not possible to replace just one of the 64 cpu alpha machines would cost estimated 5 time as much especially cause the software is all custom made. And intel solutions to not scale anything near these monsters.
Now back to linux as long as people just do certain tasks and they are openminded they can quickly learn to use linux, but when they do more things then just click the icons preinstalled by people like you or me it ends.
I have tried to let a friend install a program on his linux box which went wrong the installer failed and destroyed the previous installed program, it took me hours to get it back working again without loosing his precious work. Now yes i consider myself not a wizard on linux but i am still one who can get most things working... the guy would never got it in working order without me plain and simple
So linux still never beats ms his crap in that respect, yes some things got better but again only if all goes well. When something fails i rather have a windows client then a linux client in every way possible.
I hate microsoft and its arrogant way of thinking alot but its the most user friendly ever and will be for a very long time, till linux finds the same solutions when problems occurs without having to reinstall the os and all needed programs.
I do use linux myself sometimes for some tasks but to be honest in most cases i use the win solutions often, i hope some day it will change because i would love to see an open os as easy as ms windows on all pc's, but till linux has got to this level its just dream not come true yet.

724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Dual 5830s, but 1 won't mine... on: October 21, 2011, 11:19:30 AM
I think you should put an dummy plug on the second card which would activate the card for windhoos

Or, " but this is a easy fix which can fail if the system gets rebooted " go into your desktop settings and extend your desktop, which would turn again the card active for windows and poof it should mine away

Windhoos sets a card inactive if no video plug is attached to it hence the dummy plugs, i never want to run without them anymore. Even when a screen is attached i put a dummy plug on it since the wife went with a vacuum cleaner behind it and the cable fell off xD

No plug to a screen or dummy means its not being used to windhoos, so it turns the card off to save power and such.

lol
To be honest i would not care less maybe someone had made a typo while he went on mining at an eligius like pool
Its just 0.07 btc so no big deal, if it was 50+ btc is would start to worry about some one had made a big mistake
And i really would stress if i would recieved a couple of thousands btc, but for these amounts its ok Cheesy
I am not sure if you get some return when you send new and old btc to another address and it turnout to be a big portion old btc would you get such small refunds from the fee payed ....
Anway i will not sleep 1 second less about this amount, if it happened to me Cheesy

How strong of a power supply is needed?

That depends on the age of the machine (a pentium 4 is also very demanding) but for a single 58xx card usually a 400-500 watt psu has a sufficently sized 12v rail, one like this is on the lower end of the spectrum it would handle a single 58xx or a pair of 57xx without too much trouble http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182202

Be careful with PSU: I've recently bought a 650W one for one 5850 and it gave most of the power to the 5V, 3.3V lines and only a small fraction to 12V. So it was useless for my mining purposes.
Now this is what i found out myself with a brand new enermax 530w 85+, would you believe it can not handle 2 low power cards in a low power consuming machine.. By low power i mean a 75 w gt440 and a 116 w gts450
It simply can not handle the load (the system without the cards uses 106w on his internal gpu)
Every time i add the gt440 the system began to crash and constant went into bleu screens, with power failure messages on the cpu.
I put in my old trusty ocz 700w and no more crashes or problems at all, so somehow it seems that the powersupply are not really giving the power they should, ofcourse i would like to use the high efficient psu because the old power supply  probably consumes much more power to give a similar output. So for me enermax is not a good choice anymore
Especially since the shop returned the supply to me stating there was nothing wrong with it and send me a bill for 65 euro testing costs.

Ubuntu is a fabulous OS. The only reason I have to revert to windows now and then is gaming. On my laptop(s) I have not installed windows in like 5 years. Well, except for inside a virtual machine hosted by ubuntu to test windows stuff.
I wish i could convince the ladies that
As soon as they can not find their precious word, excel and last but not least internet explorer they go into a nervous breakdown.
On the other hand linux still suxx it will allways stay a nerd operating system, for people like me its easy when something fails but for the others.. Pfff they really have no clue what todo if something crashes or goes into errors.
You can say whatever you want over windhoos for n00bs it is the best.
They can simply restart and it works again, try that on linux when it crashed .... i assure you it will not start without you having to fix the filesystem and thats when your lucky. ( by this i mean turn of the power like they do when it crashes)
Yes i hate windhoos too but its the one who made computers easy for the masses which i think linux never will be.
Ofcourse linux has been improved a little bit and yes even some n00bs now can install linux but if something fails its still a text base os where you endless need to edit and type commands to get things installed or fixed.
Even the so rumoured rpm packages manage to constant fail a install for whatever reason, so before linux becomes a serious competition for windhoos it still has a enormous long way to go.
As soon as i can say to my wife start up the pc and push go and start install and at the moment it goes wrong she can click fix this, i think it will succeed else it allways will be the nerd os what it is.
And ofcourse linux has totally no games like the windhoos platform all major games only get released on the consoles or windhoos, hardly any game is linux friendly besides doom

731  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: WHy do people only buy ATIcards when NVIDA is somuch better? on: October 18, 2011, 04:10:38 PM
Exactly n4l3hp
I have been running boinc and boinc like projects for more then a decade and still some ati run without any issue
Funny enough i have also one DFI nfi 4 expert sli which still is alive with a opteron 175 on it which is only used to run on milkway before i had enough of boinc for now. I think i sponsored them a pretty house by now so time to move on.

I must say the intel boards and compaqs are pretty sturdy as well, a few still running with an p2 and p3 on it in some dark corners of a factory hall and doing their work despite tons of dust piled up in it.
I have cleaned them a couple of times but lol those beasts keep running without a hitch Cheesy
That makes me wonder if the old ati cards will do the same Cheesy, the oldest is a ati radeon ve with 16 Mb which is still being used by a game junk for running older games which do no longer run on these super fast new cards

732  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: WHy do people only buy ATIcards when NVIDA is somuch better? on: October 18, 2011, 11:21:40 AM
Well lol i can't resist answer again i found when i was gaming that all the games who start with made for NVIDIA do have a problem with powerplay, i wonder if any other game which i have not played does it.
So far all had that crap green logo and ofcourse i have not played all games and never will but, and yes powerplay can be addressed in by using the bios editor and turn it completely off.
Now to be honest i do not think you like that if you do not use it on a dedicated miner
For all those who like me do more things then mining on their pc swtiching to lower power consumption does lower the huge bill
and we like that even though it can be a pain in the ass XD
Yes the solutions showed by JackRabitt worked wonders for me too, i actually still use some of them if needed.
I would like to see those companies release the driver to open source because i know there are a lot of wizards who are much better then the ones working at those companies.
Remember omega drivers ... not then your really not from this world those where awesome
Many of these guys made failing drivers from either company work like they should
Sadly they all stopped, most because they lost their jobs or completely disappeared, that is the issue with open source but i am certain people would come back in when they could get some donations from the people using it.
So for now you are stuck with the programmers from ati and nvidia who need alot of time to fix some issues like the crossfire problem which took ages xD. Now i do not dare to say they suxx but lol sometimes when a fix is done in previous version in the next you get it back, and yes on both brands
I still say AMD has to invest more into driver programmers because it will pay off >.<

734  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: First power bill inclusive of 24/7 mining rigs... on: October 17, 2011, 03:24:22 PM
For me is weird to read the big differences in electricity prices, today i heard that usa and chile seems to have different prices when temps go down or up.
In the netherlands its all year round the same price.
We pay a monthly fee in my case 244,83 euro
In october the fun BIG total comes in where you finally can see what you actually used.
Which in most cases mean pay alot more.
I guess ill beat the 8200 kwh from last year again, if it goes above 10k we get a nice bonus penalty on the bill.

735  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ideas for a Bitcoin 2.0 on: October 16, 2011, 08:51:22 AM
I have one problem with your statement that miners get them for free, most miners do not

To mine a coin you have to invest heavily in not so cheap hardware and last but not the least the energy price and other costs like taxes on that energy
Simply said if i want to break even i have to wait till bitcoin gets a value of 12 $ each minimal so your statement is wrong
Some do however run their rigs on the cost of their parents or boss so they are the lucky ones until the owners find out.

If a boss finds out you are stealing his electricity in such huge numbers i bet he will not be happy.
See the legal papers about this issue, many network admins got fired because they ran distributed computing without asking their boss for permission. The result was instant loosing their jobs and most of them had have been ordered to pay the loss in electricity back to the owners.
I believe bitcoin to have a future and there is in my view no need for a split yet, until the 21 million coins do arrive, the only thing i would like on a sort of split is that you see as a miner faster result from your investment.

If you're lucky, you'll get a block before 2013. If you're REALLY lucky, you'll get a block before 2012. If you are VERY unlucky, you won't get a block until after 2020.

With my luck i count on the last Wink, by that time btc has been disappeared or is worth 100 $  each xD
739  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: WHy do people only buy ATIcards when NVIDA is somuch better? on: October 15, 2011, 11:04:13 AM
lol
my 2 cents on this is easy

NIVIDIA suxx big time i have had the most dying cards from nvidia, the worst drivers, and is the biggest scammers with endless rebranding the same product.
Now even today after 4 months of use another card died and again a nvidia crap. So the score this far NVIDIA 5 out of 8 died, dead, kaput, gone
ATI only 1 really died out of 27 true 1 other has been replaced but it was still working even with 110 c temps.
and yes when you use these cards when overclocking in time they will slow down, but then again you wanted to overclock and in most cases they will not die completely.
This far all the cards except the dead one, are still working but not overclocked by family and friends and all are happy with my old cards.
Yes ati needs to put some more money on the driver design which in my view will pay off big time, but i do favor any ati above all nvidia only on the low budget cards i say it does not matter which you buy.

Sure nvidia works on a few games better on their product but YOU PEOPLE must understand those games are totally made for these cards and the makers make sure ati will never run better then the paying big time scammer nvidia.
Yes nvidia pays them a lot of money for keep their product fastest, in products where no cards are favored by the secret donations ( or whatever you wanna call the payements made by nvidia )  you see a totally different score.
Now yes some games will benefit from one or the other but to call ATI crap is way too stupid the parts ati uses are way better quality as nvidia is doing, hence the nice cheap capacitors who blew up. ATI has been using the best japanese ones as far as i know. And again has a way lower dying rate

So to end this discussion NVIDIA sells crap period.
740  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: phoenix miner in solo question on: October 14, 2011, 11:26:33 PM
To me solo mining is still a mistery untill now i had 3 times a block but it never got rewarded and there is hardly any explaining about how and what is happening when mining with cgminer and such
Does it really stop finding the correct block when you stop a miner or does it continue where it left off
If so why does the solo server gets new blocks assigned to it ?
And yes the client never reports anything other then if it found some kinda valid block, but again i never got any reward for it.
Something else i noticed is that the block count on the local bitcoin server i run changed a after it found the so called block, but again there is so little support on this local mining that its almost sad.
I have found till today no explaining about nor has there been any improvement to see on this what your doing
Thats why i switched to mining in a pool, cause this whole local mining is full of misteries and lack of info
I wonder if anyone really know what it is really doing or where that hidden guy is
