The power consumption is just way too high and you would need the 1024 to achieve ok speeds but bad power again.
Way lower than GPUs and CPUs for the expected performance. High compared to what?

Updated with link to Dirk Augustin's Cunningham Chain World Records list where primecoin is cleaning up. Anyone know where to find the records list for twin chain?

Hello, I have updated my Cunningham chain record list: http://users.cybercity.dk/~dsl522332/math/Cunningham_Chain_records.htmCongratulations to all who found new records! Please send me a PM if you want to have your real name on the record list. First of all you of course need to confirm that you really found the record like it's done in this thread. Regards, Dirk Augustin Primecoin is cleaning up and it has only just gotten started!

good stuff! I have high hopes for primecoin, as its development, like people have already said, uses all that extra energy ( did you know mining in the u.s. costs us 80+k in electricity a DAY? That's only going to get higher) to work. The most intriguing thing I found was concerning a computational program from Stanford to help find cures to some diseases. The other half is to find longgggg prime numbers, which I guess is a big thing in the math world?? were talking world record, million digit long primes. I guess primecoin has already slashed a world record for long primes. It beats me as child with the Guinness bookofworld records out, trying to stand on one foot to beat the record, which was days long. But seriously, it's the first coin that isn't being mindless about all that expendable energy, and I for one applaud that. I think that attracts a lot of people to bitcoin. Also the fact that prime numbers are a mathematical resource for cryptography has an obvious allure to crypto currency enthusiasts. I believe primecoin though will remain a very volatile currency though for the near future.

goat quote from memory when he arrived on JD. I'm not a whale, I don't gamble very much... goat lost $20,000 + which is a shame, but that did pay for my dinner which was kind of him $20,000 is a decent bit. It never looks like much when expressed as bitcoin like in that snapshot, till you convert it to fiat. Wow he gambled at 20% odds - that is ballsy.

Alright, left this stickied a few days longer than I had intended to, but no harm done. I will however be unstickying it now, there are over 500 votes at the moment, which should be a large enough sample size to get somewhat accurate information. You are free to continue on with regular conversation about the poll or whatever, and use a daily bump to keep the thread in the public if you wish, just letting you know that in order for my "Sticky anything that could be considered important, interesting, or useful" policy to work, I have to make sure that I take down things that have been stickied after a while, or eventually the entire front page will end up stickied.
No problem, thank you for keeping it up long enough to get a fairly accurate read on the state of things. I found it very informative.

used the site yesterday, pretty fun and pretty fast. only bad thing was no day spa, you lose 200 btc in 60 seconds you expect a day spa!! hehe just kidding, best of luck all. How you lose so much in 60 second? What were you betting?

Added link to new version 4 of jhPrimeminer (about 25% faster) and a couple new threads of interest

tl;dr: we need more Valves, not more Zyngas. And MPOE is most definitely a Zynga.
If Zynga went around insulting their customers and potential investors

If only you could make a gpu miner for primecoin now

I think i got them all on my list
Nope. You're missing a few. See my list in my signature. Thanks, I updated my poll though a couple on your list were actually not valid coins.

I've been thinking of buying one just to play with, primecoin and possibly even scrypt coins might be efficient to mine on this. Its only $99 to order one, even if its not usefull to mine primecoin its a fun linux computer you can play with. I'll buy it just as a toy and if it is efficient in mining primecoins all the better. Yeah, I think it will be pretty efficient and the fact it infinitely expandable is great. Means you can play with one and then buy more if you like it to sequentially increase the power. I didn't buy it because of the TV thing... are we sure it would be fine to use it on your computer and super computer your computer instead of the TV? I wouldn't want to overboard my PC and I don't know if our CPU is capable of handling it... It looks to be a standalone product. It is by design meant to be able to easily be built up in parallel to infinitely increase the power (hence the name ).

I added 15 coins I had missed and removed one (Middlecoin, not a coin - actually a mining pool).
I know they are late additions, but you can change your vote!

Some of you like to see an altcoin that is truly GPU,FGPA,ASIC resistant. We would like to see such a coin too so we have started experimenting. We are working on the hashing function right now. It's radix sort based. We use 64 random numbers between 10000 and 75536 (16^4+10k). This 512 char long decimal number is the 'key'. (If we subtract the 10k on each number block and convert it to hex, it's a 256 long hex string in total [or in other words: 1024 bits].) We then change each number block with a specific simple math function and radix sort them by LSD. This gives us a 'hash' (same structure as 'key'). Using a difficulty is already in place. The above explained process for getting a hash out of a key is also depending on the difficulty. The higher the difficulty the more often the hashing has to be done before getting back a hash (simply said). Validating a hash is based on simple math functions depending on the difficulty. The higher the difficulty the less hashes are valid (simply speaking). I just want to make sure we are on the right track with this. Possible improvements: I would like to implement tacotime's mentioned tree search algorithm in topic 64239. But it has to be implemented in a way the search is mandatory and that's very hard to do. We may also should use radix sort MSD and LSD instead of LSD only. What do you think? Do you have any idea what we should change/add to the hashing function? I think Primecoin looks to be a very CPU friendly coin.

With efforts to make a GPU miner for Primecoin floundering (and I am skeptical it would even be more effective than a system with a good 64-bit X86 CPU and fast memory), I was wondering if using Parallela to build a Primecoin mining rig would work well. It is low power, ideal for CPU intensive tasks, can easily add fast memory to it cheaply and is quiet and compact. It is also infinitely expandable. I was thinking of ordering: http://shop.adapteva.com/collections/parallella/products/parallella-cluster-kitThis was a kickstarter project. Apparently they have already shipped boards to kickstarter contributors and sales to other customers will start in August. Here is the page describing this project: http://www.adapteva.com/introduction/It strikes me this would be good for any CPU intensive mining coin and Primecoin may be a great candidate for this. Thoughts?

This was needed! Good work! Maybe some editing and use of B, colors and bigger fonts would help and make it easier to read I'll work on that!
