761  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Colored Coins on: January 17, 2015, 12:24:04 AM
Colored Coins use a particular method to track meta data. There are many possible ways to track meta data. It would not be a bad idea for someone to start building a comprehensive wallet to track them all. It would require some heavy computing power.

Hundreds of times i had to read here how we needed to go down so everyone would started buying again. Now we're at 200 and as mentioned above nobody is interested. Time to face reality.
It's been 6 years. 6 years!

yeah, and it gained like 10000000000000000000000% in those 6 years...why do you say bitcoin is bad long term investment again?

Just because something turned out to be a good buy at $5, doesn't mean that it would be a good buy at $500.
Your lack of understanding is what makes this so exciting. You are right though, the people that really understand Bitcoin are already highly leveraged.  It's actually a good thing it's staying low. Now more people that get Bitcoin can afford it before the speculators jump back in.
763  Economy / Speculation / Re: Automated posting on: January 16, 2015, 02:30:51 PM
Discounting China's fictitious numbers, there are < 24k bitcoins listed on the exchanges. That means the market is leveraged against 14M BTCs at roughly 600:1. It's amazing what people believe when someone writes it down.

Washington Post is a rag, wouldn't use it to pick up my dog's 'deposits'

and after actually burning my eyes reading it, its basically a joke - if someone reads it and makes any decisions or forms opinions based on it, they were never going to be a BTC supporter anyway.

Trash for trashcan people.

Don't forget lining bird cages and litter boxes.

Peter Kirby: "Making exchanges honest is one of the first projects that's being done on Factom. You can run a proof-of-audit on steroids - letting you produce a true audit trail of every transaction at every moment. That'll really get businesses to sit up and notice.

The other application that will pop up right away is Title Records - because they secure such a large portion of a country's wealth. We've already had a country reach out to us about building a Title Application using Factom/Bitcoin Blockchain.

Amazing news. Source?
The jackals will love this.

You should have asked that question last July.

Early adopters at $219? I don't think so I think I'll wait until it comes down to $200 again.
Gotta love that no regrets attitude. He must have been buying since 2011.

Looks like it is about Factom:

Quote
Factom's simple extension of the Bitcoin blockchain, allows users to run their own personal, provably immutable ledgers. Users and applications, also have the ability to define which information is stored in the ledgers. "Foactom lets you use the blockchain without forcing you to use the currency,"
Factom? I didn't even know 'em!
769  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Price of Bitcoin Doesn’t Matter Right Now | Wired on: January 16, 2015, 09:42:04 AM
The problem is we made a commodity out of BTC. Remember what it was originally stated to be. A software based payment system.

Then we began to realize we can't use it as we are able to use any other commodity. So we made it a commodity cum currency. We forgot we don't use commodities as currency in our real life.

To me it currently looks to be trying to become either a commodity or currency or hybrid. I think the coming time will tell us what it eventually becomes. In any case being a commodity cum currency in our times is not an easy identity to resolve. So I guess we gotta be patient and let it resolve. Which is again not easy because we fully believed in each label we gave it and tied our money and hence our greed & fear with it.
We all have our own optics. Some use a microscope, while others a telescope. I prefer to close my eyes, stick my hands in and build whatever sandcastles I can imagine.

So, where are these whale buyers?
I'm not sure what they will do now. One thing for certain, they won't put millions on an exchange that can just lose their money. And I doubt OTC traders will dump much at these prices.

What do you guys think about this "tether" thing ?
Sounds a lot like e-gold and we know how that went down.
773  Economy / Speculation / Re: Has it been so bad before? on: January 16, 2015, 05:54:30 AM
It's been even worse before! Back in September 2011 the price basically crashed within days sooo freaking severely, I bet a lot of people almost turned to stone. We'll have to see if the recovery continues. If so, we may now have entered a bull market again, otherwise we will likely revisit $150 for a double-bottom or maybe double digits!

Back then I would think that people knew that they were "gambling" more with something so new though.  Perhaps it should have been a little less shocking then?  At least that is what I figured.  Even when I joined the "party" in 2013 I was aware of the volatility and even warned we would have some bubble cycles, and was aware that there were risks involved so it didn't really come as a shock.  Now, however, it feels like we should be more "secure" with all the new developments in place.   Undecided
Sure, some people try casual dating with Bitcoin and if it doesn't work out, they move on. Some people just fall head over heels crazy about what it is and represents. They are the ones that stay in it for the long haul.

Why do you think we post CCMF! in the Wall Observers megathread in speculation?
777  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mastering Fear on: January 16, 2015, 05:05:29 AM
There's a lot more to fear and it's mastery than can be covered in a page or two. One important thing you left out was having a sense of humor. Dark humor helps in depressing times. Slave songs led to the blues as a music created to mock fear. Try to keep a good attitude.

Runaway train never going back
Wrong way on a one way track
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Somehow I'm neither here nor there

Bought a ticket for a runaway train
Like a madman laughin' at the rain
Little out of touch, little insane
Just easier than dealing with the pain
