781  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][1CR] 1CRedit Coin Relaunch on: February 26, 2016, 10:08:54 PM

Sorry about that, went to put a proper title and fix a few bolding mistakes, but this forum doesn't allow me to delete my own post apparently.
Sorry, I didn't mean any disrespect, just joking around.
Absolutely none taken!  I'm just glad you actually read it!

Coin looks extremely cheap, is there a block explorer and a dev who fixes the wallet?
782  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Vote] Decred. Genius Innovation or Utter Shitcoin? [Poll Reset] on: February 26, 2016, 09:30:27 AM
It's to early to tell if this coin will succeed but judging from their community and how enthusiastic their developers are I'm sure this coin will go a long way, let's give them a benefit of a doubt and let them work their way to the top..

Enthusiastic?

...

The premine consists of 8% of the total supply of 21 million coins, meaning the premine consists of 1.68 million coins. ...

lol
783  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Vote] Decred. Genius Innovation or Utter Shitcoin? [Poll Reset] on: February 26, 2016, 07:37:33 AM
... I never understand what people have against premines ...

Part of it has to do with the psychology of economics.

Some people believe that a currency should not be made to benefit the people who made it or manage it, and that coins should be created as "clean" as possible, to be used as an accurate reflection of assets' (e.g., commodities') values, rather than starting a currency off with a certain percentage of that entire coin economy in the hands of people who become like kings if the coin is widely adopted.

There are other reasons people do not respect premines and those who promote them.

You should research it.

It is quite an important aspect of coins.
784  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Vote] Decred. Genius Innovation or Utter Shitcoin? on: February 26, 2016, 12:52:18 AM
...  instead of another lame "hey we got this really good idea, we just need 2 years to do it and an ICO to get it off the ground"...

Actually that is exactly what this coin is.

Except there is no "really good idea"...

And the ICO is camouflaged as a huge premine given to investors.  Shocked
785  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [POLL] Opinion about BTER? on: February 25, 2016, 09:27:18 PM
the trade volume on bter is not good enough to get my attention and i also prefer some exchanger that has not been hacked before.

The thing that occurs to me though is that with most exchanges that get hacked the people running things just shut down the exchange and disappear.

We know though, from actual history, that the folks running BTER will not do that. They were hacked and their company was briefly crippled and they decided to pay off the victims from their own future profits, rather than cutting and running.

What weight does  that carry?
786  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [POLL] Best Altcoin for a Dev to "Donate" effort to? on: February 25, 2016, 08:59:19 PM

Post the name of a coin not on the poll and that coin will be added to the poll.

[added] Preferably coins without heavy premines / moderated threads etc, I don't want to argue about whether those things are good or bad but I prefer not to list those coins.

The poll will be reset to zero when there are at least 5 coins and the order will be made alphabetical.

'

...

... It could go faster if any devs out there wanna get on GitHub and get with the coding. Wink

...

A lot of devs work for pay on shitty coins (e.g. paid by premine, ico or other)...
...and some work for free on better coins (so they will get "paid" by the coin going up in value).

If you were an experienced coder or dev, which ethical coin would you work on for free?
Meaning you buy a little of the coin then do work on its code and have some confidence that the work you are doing would increase the price and value of the coin?

note: One day I clicked on this poll and saw siacoin suddenly had 19 votes. There was a post from the siacoin dev (below) that seems to explain a tiny premine but doesn't mention some sort of ico. There was a link in the siacoin thread pointing to this poll. Honestly, does all that make siacoin an ethical coin people should donate time to?

This poll is trying to get opinions and measure genuine sentiment towards coins. It's not a "who can spam polls" competition.

If you link the poll in a thread and try to inflate the votes for "your" coin I'll remove your coin until the next reset.
Sia removed

soooo this is all you can come up with for calling it a shitcoin? really?

Here is a brief incomplete summary of the shittiness of this shitcoin.

1) A massive premine. The signature of people who don't quite get what coins are about.

2) An NGO mentality. The signature of people who want to get paid for appearing to do something great that they are not actually doing. If you strip away the charming words like "governance", "progressive", etc, all that is left is bullshit.

3) Airdrop. A cheap way to buy allies, bribe strangers. A reputable crowd would not throw dollar bills. You can justify it by saying "xyz coin did it", but it bodes poorly for the coin.

4) Zero substantial innovation, beyond fluff stuff. The coin really adds nothing useful. It only claims to, in very eloquent language.

5) The one, single, only thing that gives the project some credibility is the list of projects that some of those devs were involved in. It looks like some of them were involved in big projects in the past. This coin will continuously need a massive inflow of money to keep it looking shiny to investors and the public. At some point, as more coins are mined, the expense will exceed the return and the house of cards will fall.
788  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Vote] Decred. Genius Innovation or Utter Shitcoin? on: February 25, 2016, 06:48:45 AM
...People are barely using bitcoin...

Genius innovation?  It's like designing a better turd.

The idea behind speculation is to anticipate what people will use, not what they are using.

Social FUD/astroturf campaigns are cheap and easy ways to try and control the narrative.

Whenever I see a little too much effort put into a fud post like this, I'm just gonna post a link to this article which explains why they're useful and used profligately throughout the cryptocurrency space. It's done by stakeholders of similar cryptocurrencies in order to protect the value of the one they're locked into, and it's also done by the fiat currency establishment in order to undermine, derail, or distract.

Have fun reading this article by way of my own little boilerplate FUD/astroturf neutralizer.

https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/i-m-a-former-green-beret-here-s-how-i-would-bring-down-bitcoin-1456165726

I am not a stakeholder in any competing currency.

I consider Decred a shitcoin but bought 0.03 btc worth, which is a lot for me, but will be watching sentiment towards the coin and will try to dump before the devs and other bag holders do.

So I am making money if it goes up and do not make any money if it drops, but consider the truth to be worth something too.

The truth is displayed in your poll. People love decred no matter what a few fudders claim. The technology and governance will proove itself just matter of time. And i am not saying that it will compete bitcoin but will be the second crypto for sure and may help bitcoin to oversee their old fashioned governance that helps only the very few decident factors

lol

There are lots of coins that allow users to vote on various things.

What really makes Decred stand out is the shameless hype it's pump team uses.

You can use fancy words like "governance" and shovel all kinds of nonsense in every direction, but Decred is a common shitcoin that is being pumped by some old bitcoin hands who have nothing new but want to cash in.  Wink

---

As for what is displayed by the poll, there were 25 pro Decred votes almost immediately, there are 28 now as I post (thread has 244 views).

Let's see if this changes

Brilliant coin. Solid team. I'm in.   - 28 (70%)
Price is rising so I buy, but not sure.   - 2 (5%)
Shitcoin being pumped. Going to buy and try to make money before the premine dump.   - 6 (15%)
Why do people keep falling for these premined turdcoins?   - 2 (5%)
Stop making polls you twat.   - 2 (5%)

Decred has risen fast on heavy volume and seems to have some very deep pockets behind its development.

Is the following

...

The premine consists of 8% of the total supply of 21 million coins, meaning the premine consists of 1.68 million coins. ...

justified by

...

Maybe the following excerpts from press can serve as a TL;DR to highlight why people are excited about Decred:

Quote
Some of Bitcoin's developers have left the project and are now starting their separate digital currency called Decred, promoting an open governance model, which they say is missing in Bitcoin.

The new cryptocurrency is looking to solve what Company 0 CEO Jacob Yocom-Piatt said is the biggest problem with bitcoin: It’s controlled by a small group of external actors who decide how the service will evolve, often in spite of developer objections and to the detriment of users. To address the problem, former bitcoin developers are opting for a decentralized, community-based governance model. The Decred team also plans to introduce a number of features that include:

- A consenus-based system using proof of work and proof of stake;

- Hashing via the Blake-256 algorithm; Ed25519/secp256k1-Schnorr or secp256k1 signatures to improve software integration;

- Potential bitcoin compatibility.

Simply put, Decred wants to eliminate governance and decision-making issues that plague bitcoin while keeping many of the central functions intact. It makes sense: Bitcoin has garnered enough positive attention and investor confidence that there’s no need to reinvent the wheel. Rather, the cryptocurrency aims to coast along on bitcoin’s momentum with promises of improved security and better collaboration.

792  Economy / Exchanges / [POLL] Opinion about BTER? on: February 24, 2016, 08:06:55 PM
Curious about people's opinion with BTER.

They apparently got hacked some time back and since then have not quite got back up, currently number 33

I respect their response to being hacked, they are making an effort to repay everyone, which is different from most places that just close and disappear without trying to make things right.

On the other hand should a person not trust them because there may be a financial threat to them (e.g. solvency issues)  that threatens any money a person sends there?

So many crooked shitcoins now it's good to see a creative ethical old no-premine coming back to life.
795  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HUC] Huntercoin - Human Mining - Decentralized MMO and Crypto Game on: February 24, 2016, 03:40:43 AM
It's little funny that huc has genuine developers and a small core of people who put real effort into it, but it is low priced and ignored, but there are loads of utter shitcoins that are created and developed only to fleece simple folk and some of those coins are worth dozens of times more.

As cryptos become more mainstream, coins like Magi will thrive with the general public and there will be fewer red candles.

But it is almost funny that there is only 0.40 btc on the buy side at Poloniex  Tongue

From a technical view the chart looked abysmal up to the second week of Dec 2015, but has made a pretty clear bottom and might improve soon.

very confident about mazacoin longterm prospects

facebook page could do with some likes, friends, followers!

strong presence on twitter, though

https://www.facebook.com/mazacoin

The idea behind mazacoin is incredibly strong.

A Native American currency that is outside the control of foreign governments (e.g. the U.S. gvt) would vastly increase the cachet of American Natives.

Idea is great. But I'm not sure if the native americans from that tribes actually got something and/or is the coin used by someone from that tribes? Would be gratefull for information, haven't checked updates for a while...

Maza needs ideas and people willing to pursue them. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1193897

Some coin will eventually be used by Natives in a lot of places, including the Americas, to reconnect themselves with political power in their respective locales.

Whether Maza will be that coin for Native Americans, who knows.
