781  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: MrGox Trustee Sells more $700 Milion Today ( Bitcoin goes down again ) on: March 28, 2018, 04:29:58 PM
I still don't understand the reason why he is selling the BTC and BCH. Why can't he simply transfer those coins to their rightful owners? Also, I am curious what is going to happen with the balance in other forked coins, such as Bitcoin Gold, Super-Bitcoin and Bitcoin Silver. Is he selling those coins as well?
It's easy. Bitcoins are sold after the claim is recognized officially and the court made the decision on compensation of damage. All of these decisions according to the law accepted in yen. Everyone who thinks that in Japan the use of bitcoins is fully regulated is very wrong. Bitcoin in Japan is only a means of payment. How can damage be compensated by means of payment?

OK... In that case I have a doubt. Since the trustee has sold the Bitcoins / BCH and converted them to Japanese Yen, he is supposed to pay a long-term capital gains tax over these gains, right? So the Mt Gox users will receive the JPY they are owned, minus the tax?
782  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin an asset or a currency? on: March 28, 2018, 04:27:08 PM
While bitcoin can not serve us as a currency, as it needs time to penetrate into our world and fully stabilize. And so far, it's an asset.

It was supposed to be used as a currency, and therefore I have no doubt that it can serve that purpose. But over the years, the attempts to use it as a currency has failed due to the extreme volatility associated with the exchange rates, and the high transaction fee.
783  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will happen when BTC will get closer to 21M?! on: March 28, 2018, 04:25:12 PM
Just relax... we are a long way off.. The maximum limit will be reached by 2140, and none of us will be alive by then. If Bitcoin survives that long, then I guess Satoshi, rather than BTC or mBTC will be the preferred denomination for doing transactions.
784  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: king of all coins on: March 28, 2018, 04:23:10 PM
new coins that have come a lot in the crypto world have an impact on the market price. however, after the arrival of the same ripple operates behind the blockchain.
will this coin replace BITCOIN or BITCOIN will continue in its position and remain the king of all coins?

You are asking whether Ripple is going to replace Bitcoin? Is this a joke? Ripple will never replace BTC, because it is a scam promoted by the banks and the corporations. It is not even a proper altcoin.
785  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoins You Think will Grow on: March 27, 2018, 11:06:05 AM
Right now, the altcoin on which I am concentrating the most is Monero. Look at the coins such as Ripple, Cardano and EOS. Their market caps are higher than that of Monero. But the user-base and acceptability is much lower than that of XMR.
786  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: MrGox Trustee Sells more $700 Milion Today ( Bitcoin goes down again ) on: March 27, 2018, 11:03:42 AM
Probably this is having a very negative impact on the exchange rates. The rates were recovering and were hovering at around $12,000 per coin when this news came out. And now they have gone back to $8,000 per coin. I seriously suspect something fishy here.
787  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin be replaced by another cryptocurrency? on: March 27, 2018, 11:00:50 AM
perhaps, bitcoin will be replaced by another currency. if this happens, it will probably look like bitcoin

If it looks like Bitcoin, then how can it replace BTC? If some other form of crypto-currency replaces Bitcoin, then it is going to be a technologically superior coin (may be Ethereum or Stellar Lumens). A copycat has no chance of posing any challenge to Bitcoin.
788  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin or Altcoins? Which is safer or more profitable? on: March 27, 2018, 10:57:57 AM
Neither Bitcoin nor altcoins are safe, at least when compared to the other forms of investment. They are extremely risky assets to make investment, and you should be ready for a scenario where your entire capital can vanish. And regarding profitability, I'd go with BTC. Because a lot of altcoins are being created by fraudsters these days.
789  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a mode of payment on: March 27, 2018, 10:54:49 AM
If Bitcoin continues to give 10x or 20x returns every year, then no one will be willing to spend their coins or use it as a currency. If Bitcoin is to be used as a currency, then its exchange rates should be stable. But at this point, I don't think that many of us want that to happen.
790  Economy / Economics / Re: Can we Manipulate Bitcoin price? on: March 24, 2018, 08:29:55 PM
The daily trade volume of Bitcoin is in billions of USD. That makes it extremely difficult to manipulate the exchange rates, unless you have liquid cash of at least $500 million available with you. My advice would be to go after some of the altcoins, rather than focusing on BTC.
791  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or gold? on: March 24, 2018, 08:25:07 PM
Gold has lost its attractiveness. For the past 5 years or so, the prices have remained largely flat without any upward movement. And the worrying factor is that gold is fast losing demand in nations such as India and China.
792  Economy / Economics / Re: Is bitcoin a good way to invest your money ? on: March 24, 2018, 08:23:44 PM
I don't know about the others, but Bitcoin has given unbelievable returns for me. I first invested in 2012, when the exchange rates were around $10 per coin. The prices have risen by 900x since then. My only regret is that I invested only a very small amount back then.
793  Economy / Economics / Re: HODL mentality destroys the currency aspect of Bitcoin on: March 24, 2018, 08:21:38 PM
I am not much bothered about it. Hardly anyone use Bitcoin as a currency now. For all practical purpose, it has become an investment asset. And in my opinion, it is not a bad thing at all.
794  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is BTC the new gold ? on: March 24, 2018, 07:45:32 PM
I hope comparison between bitcoin and gold stops because bitcoin is not gold. The price keeps on fluctuating and continues to move forward unlike gold that changes its price slowly and acts as a long term investment.

The difference between gold and Bitcoin is that the daily trade volume for Bitcoin (with respective to its market cap) is much higher than that of gold. And this is the primary reason why Bitcoin is more volatile than gold.
795  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you still buy Bitcoin? on: March 24, 2018, 07:42:12 PM
In the near future I think he will not fall in price.

How can you be so sure about it? During the past 2-3 months, the exchange rates have fallen by more than 50%. And there is no guarantee that it will not fall any further in the near future.
796  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you surprise by bitcoin price now? on: March 24, 2018, 07:38:53 PM
I m not surprised because I know Bitcoin has lots of potential to grow up to 50k$. So 7k$ is not surprised for me.

$50K would mean a market cap of more than $1 trillion. I am not saying that it is impossible, but in my opinion it would require a steep growth in the number of users. And a sharp rise in the market dominance of Bitcoin.
797  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin a criminal tool? on: March 24, 2018, 07:36:26 PM
Any currency or asset can be used by the criminals and Bitcoin is no different. Bitcoin offers no added advantage to the criminals, as the transactions are easily traced through the blockchain. In fact, I would say that Bitcoin is no longer the preferred crypto for the criminals.
798  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is your bitcoin story? Good or bad on: March 24, 2018, 07:31:45 PM
So far, so good. I started my Bitcoin investments in 2012, when the exchange rates were below $10 per coin. Unfortunately, I never accumulated a large number of coins and spent huge amounts for shopping. Now I have only around 2 BTC in my wallet. But still I am happy.
799  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH TO $ 5000 on: March 23, 2018, 11:14:44 AM
Bitcoin falls - the ethereum falls with him. This is a terrible situation for investors.

Unfortunately for us, there is still a very strong correlation between the exchange rates of Bitcoin and Ethereum. I am surprised at this, because the ETH vs fiat volumes have grown at the expense of the ETH vs BTC volumes during the past few months. I expected the ETH exchange rates to be more independent from the Bitcoin prices.
800  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to Study any Altcoins before Investment on: March 23, 2018, 11:10:40 AM
Before deciding to invest in any altcoin, I carefully study the following parameters:

1. the number of users
2. 24-hour and 1-month trade volume, and the growth in the trade volume
3. Number of exchanges where the altcoin is being traded
4. Free float to cold storage ratio.
5. Annual fresh supply of coins.
