81  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We need allies, guys. on: August 10, 2014, 01:24:01 AM

imagin it 3 million people with a average 4btc each, using the coin in circulation to get a dozen stores accepting bitcoin. thats 36million stores world wide accepting bitcoin... now how many stores would accept bitcoin by throwing the same circulation at the mars one sponsorship?

So you want to spend 12,000,000 of the current ~13,000,000 BTC to promote BTC. Haha Smiley
82  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How would you store >100 Bitcoins? on: August 10, 2014, 01:22:04 AM
Keep it simple, 100 BTC cold in very well hidden fireproof safe with a backup.

GPS coords of it is PGP protected.

Peace of mind  Grin Priceless.

This sounds like the safekeeping would cost more than the worth of those coins Wink

If its an existing safe for other unimportant stuff and you only have 100 coins fast forward year 2024, well  Grin

What if someone finds it?

I think it would be much safer to just user a BIP38 wallet and use Shamir Secret Sharing algorythm to split it into 2 of 3 pieces and distribute those to very safe places.

If someone finds one piece --> nothing can happen
If someone finds 2 or 3 pieces --> nothing can happen really, because he still needs the password and he can't bruteforce it.
So basically to steal your fund, someone needs to find 2 piece AND hit you long enough to giveup your password.

Flaw: You forget where the pieces are (you can plant more than 3 obv) or you forget the password.
83  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Invest bitcoins? on: August 10, 2014, 01:19:43 AM
it is difficult to invest without risk

Of course, profits come parallel with risk.
Higher risk = higher profit
Lower risk = lower profit

Not always the case in fact the majority of the time it varies on different cases higher risk doesn't mean you will get higher return if it is successful.

But it should be, otherwise there is a theoretical arbitrage opportunity present.

Look up capital asset pricing model (CAPM)
84  Other / Meta / Re: Activity & new membergroup limits on: August 10, 2014, 01:17:33 AM
Are there any plans on introducing a 960 Activity level?

Like Legend Member or smth Wink

Legend is a good idea Smiley. I like the idea of having something higher than Hero Member

It would be nice to shoot for something higher.

But make it more difficult.

Like maybe 1200 activity.  That way it will be more unique.

Or do 960 for platinum and maybe 1400 for Legend.

They'd have to switch Satoshi to like all black Ninja Level.  lol

That doesn't make any sense!

Ranks are:

15 *2 = 30 * 2 = 60 * 2 = 120 *2 = 240 * 2 = 480 * 2 = 960 * 2 = 1920

So next rank would be at 1920.
85  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Invest bitcoins? on: August 10, 2014, 01:15:45 AM
One could use bitfinex or bitvc to invest into BTC lending.
86  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Invest bitcoins? on: August 10, 2014, 12:45:54 AM
Very good idea to invest into a 1,000,000$ self-valued company, that has about 10$ per days is sales.

Offers like this is what make the regulators think of coming into the bitcoin domain.  Wink

And they should. Costumers need protection from such malicious sites!

But the problem is, when they do come in, regulation tends to be overarching.  Angry

The current situation is so terrible for consumers, that any regulation would be better than none. Then we go from there.
87  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: bitcoin-trader.biz on: August 10, 2014, 12:39:40 AM
my own brother was involved in a Ponzi

He invested $10 with Madoff?

he "invested" in Telexfree, biggest pyramid sceme in Brazilian history

From the bitterness you display I can only assume more was "invested" than could afford to be lost, if not then with all due respect so what. And if so, erm don't invest more than you can afford to lose. Pretty simple game tbh. Smiley

bitternes? lol

Exactly. People are gullible and when they see returns and see their Balance growing, they get greedy.

I am not even saying that I never fell for something like that, but yes people will get burned, the question is when!

do you people really think if the OP had 3500 BTCs he would be here hawking for tips and scraps, joining every free ipo coin stake ipo out??
He just wants to feel important , poor guy!

I thought this was established on page 2 already Cheesy
90  Economy / Speculation / Re: Am I the only one who wants bitcoin to tank? on: August 10, 2014, 12:30:48 AM
If it crashes it will be because of some dire reason that will make you not want to hold bitcoins.  After all, how else can the market go down, people have to want to sell.  So I would echo the advice of Unluckyduck and if you really think the future is bright, buy a little bit from time to time.

How about another exchange fiasko? Or a big stakeholder cashing out? Or satoshi moving his coins? Or another 50% mining power centralisation?
91  Economy / Economics / Re: How profitable are exchanges? on: August 10, 2014, 12:28:40 AM
Altcoin exchanges are very very profitable for the people running it, because after 4-8 months, they get "hacked" and shut down. No questions asked :p
I don't think this so much has to do with the profitability of the exchanges but rather the amount of coins stored on these types of exchanges. I think a lot of people like to trade altcoins in a "day trading" fashion and as a result keep their coins on the exchanges. This results there being more coins on the exchange then there really should be.

Still, even if only a 1/3 or so of the coins normally stored on an exchange would be there, they still would be "hacked" and it would still be profitable enough for those guys to run the "Long-cons".

Do you think the altcoin exchanges failing is merely the operators running away with the coins? I would doubt this as the exchange itself would likely have some level of value and could likely be sold for amounts greater then what would be stolen (less what it would take to disassociate the stolen coins - the mixer fees).

Yes, because most exchanges that get "hacked" are experiencing falling levels of trading activity right before.

Conspiracy: Mintpal was hacked, they got the BTC + were able to sell it and the buyer covered the losses. Nice job, eh? ^^
92  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wallstreet guys won't buy from exchanges on: August 10, 2014, 12:27:22 AM
What's really cool is you can EXCHANGE coins directly into the ETF.  Unfortunately you have to do it in lots of 5000 coins, so most of us or SoL but it is a nice feature of the ETF.

What is the point?

Send coins there to just pay ~1% per year?

93  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is it a bad decision to payoff mortgage early on: August 10, 2014, 12:24:12 AM
Basically you would be better of keeping it if you can yield an average of >4.4% ROI AFTER taxes. But keep in mind, that you should never invest money that you don't yet own. So basically you would lever yourself.

THough decision, I would have paid it off too.
It is very difficult to get a guaranteed return that is this high. There are not many investments that even have an expected return of this much.

Exactly, so you would need to take on extra risk and then if you perform negatively, you might have trouble paying back. Thus overleveraging yourself.
94  Other / Politics & Society / Re: SOUTH KOREA sends 720 lb toxic payload to North Korea on: August 10, 2014, 12:14:47 AM
I think people hate North Korea so much, that they forget that the people there are the biggest victims. They are brainwashed their whole life and live in a poverty more extreme than central africa!

people need to distinguish government from a group of people. i am american, and my government does not represent my thoughts and feelings, so don't blame me for invading other countries.

Exactly, but emotions blur the mind and let become otherwise rational people the extreme opposite.

Another example is companies. Just because you hate your ISP you don't need to hate the support workers and let it out on them...
95  Economy / Auctions / Re: SpinBitcoin.com >> Auction starting @ just $50 on: August 10, 2014, 12:12:26 AM

Only $60?  I thought any domain with Bitcoin in it would be worth a lot more than that.

This is an auction, what do you expect?

97  Other / New forum software / Re: Automated Applying Of Sub-rankings and Scammer Tag(incl. discussion)! on: August 10, 2014, 12:08:00 AM
Being labelled a scammer would indicate that they've already successfully scammed people, if they've done that then they've likely already made their money and would move onto their next scam. They're not exactly going to continue to use that account for their next scam now that the account has been outed, therefore making the scammer tag worthless imo.

Agreed.  People need to be marked as scammers before they commit their first scam.

Problem is how that could be done. And if the staff would do that, then people would complain after getting scammed, that the forum didn't warn them.

I thing the current situation is as good as its gets.
