801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 128-bit Quantum Computer Commercially Available - Qubitcoin coming soon? on: December 15, 2011, 09:46:41 PM
Question is, how easy would a transition in software be, when new software is needed for security?
802  Economy / Economics / Re: The Bullion Report For Dec 14, 2011: Gold does have a Seasonal Claus(e) on: December 15, 2011, 09:42:17 PM
So you think in the next few months there will be a dollar denominated debt collapse? That would be good for gold, I think. Even if it goes down in dollar terms, it would go up against other assets. I can't remember what you were saying in the other thread but cypherdoc was suggesting people should invest in dollar notes.
803  Economy / Economics / Re: Unlocked Gold thread. on: December 14, 2011, 03:29:47 PM
Looks like people are still searching for the dollar devaluation. The current situation cannot last.
804  Economy / Economics / Re: Unlocked Gold thread. on: December 12, 2011, 09:41:44 PM
The price of gold has been held back so far this month. I've had little time to look into it.
805  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MtGox not processing BTC withdrawals on: December 05, 2011, 04:15:07 PM
Hello,

We are processing all our the bitcoin withdrawal requests.  If you have not received any of your bitcoin withdrawals, please contact us at the support desk by submitting a ticket there and we will look into it for you.  (https://support.mtgox.com/home)

Broken servers?

some work, some don't work. One withdrawal was done on 1st of Dec and is still not visible in blockexplorer. Great - I really wonder about abandoning MG completely Sad

You would have thought one of those other attempts at bitcoin exchanges would have been successful by now considering MtGox is shown to be quite unreliable and insecure.

I've heard they are moving loads of money around (for no reason???) causing massive sudden bitcoin volume spikes. Maybe that has something to do with it? http://blockchain.info/charts/estimated-transaction-volume?daysAverageString=7
807  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info - Bitcoin Block explorer & Currency Statistics on: December 01, 2011, 09:06:51 PM
Why not have a ≈ character instead of ~ for the USD evaluation?

Do you use servers that you already own for other things? Do you plan to make money on this (not just donations), or is it just a hobby?

I would suggest changing the bottom bar so it does not merge with the background and become confusing.

I believe this is the first e-wallet service to offer pure javascript transaction signing and wallet encryption/decryption. At no time do you share your private keys or password with our server. Your private keys are stored AES encrypted on servers so even if our database is compromised your wallet will still be secure.

I had that idea a few days ago!  Grin

I don't know what the VAT is like in Japan is either but VAT on fees is much different than VAT on the whole thing.
810  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in tv show -The Good Wife - Episode 3.13 - Finding Mr. Bitcoin on: November 30, 2011, 07:39:59 PM
Looking at that machine, no wonder VHS beat Betamax.

The retailers may use exchange rates as a guide for price levels but ultimately they will respond to the actual amount of demand and their inventory.
812  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wire transfers? on: November 30, 2011, 07:33:41 PM
Mt. Gox doesn't sell bitcoin, it sells the service of exchange. They don't have to charge VAT.

Question is: If an individual bitcoin seller trades above the VAT threshold in their country do they legally have to include this? I don't know, if bitcoin exchanges come into legal problems I just hope they can work OK underground.
813  Economy / Economics / Re: Unlocked Gold thread. on: November 30, 2011, 07:28:03 PM
I have some money in funds which contain commodities futures so I will get out on the next peak and go all into physical gold; the safest bet for the upcoming calamities. I have considered putting some money into stocks but prefer safety for now.
814  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wire transfers? on: November 30, 2011, 12:02:46 AM
But they can't advertise to the government inspectors "bitcoins bought and sold here VAT free" can they?
815  Economy / Economics / Re: The Bullion Report For Nov 23, 2011: Holiday Volatility on: November 29, 2011, 08:42:06 PM
Gold is going down because of the increased strength of the dollar. It'll go back up once we hit the double dip recession.

"Recession" can mean the politicians are allowing the de-leveraging and liquidations to happen but they will always respond with inflation. Question is, will people learn or continue to shout "deflation"?

Also thanks bullionfk. I suggest people ignore the official inflation figures as they are no doubt designed to scam people into thinking inflation is low when it is not. Look at money supply stats.

leave nothing for the extreme demand during 1st quarter of 2012.

Though you still think it is likely to fall back in Jan as it has the last three years?

To get to 2000usd by the end of December there will have to be a big rally like through August. That is entirely possible. Interesting to see what happens then...
817  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Feature Request: Splash Screen on: November 27, 2011, 11:53:26 PM
On Macs the bouncing icon is good enough to know the program is loading. No need for a splash screen at all. Luckily you can get off them by switching programs on Macs.

I remember hearing about temporary bans on short selling for all stocks in european stock exchanges before as a tool to stop price falls.
819  Economy / Economics / Re: A less risky alternative than investing in Bitcoin directly on: November 26, 2011, 11:07:38 PM
Didn't you mean out options?

Did you mean put options?

I might have been mistaken, I never remember which is which.

Yes put options, where the seller of the option offers to buy at the strike price.
