Recently a cable connecting riser to PSU melted. Do people here use any smoke alarm to get notification? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks

If the cable melted you should really take a second look at this. Melting cables = overload. Always try to use 6 pin cables when connecting risers to PSU. MOLEX is so-so and avoid SATA cables at all cost.
I am very confused with this. Are you suggesting below wire not to be used?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08BQZ8LQN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Yes...because the Supply side (sata) is not rated as much wattage as the load (6pin pcie) side can draw.
In this case Sata is 54w max...6pin pcie plug is 216w but should only draw a max 75w due to its use here.
Regardless its a problem.  For some gpus its not a problem.  In your case it was.

Best way is to use a pcie 6pin.  You can even take and use a Y splitter to take 1 6 pin into 2 pins (to power say 2 risers).  75w + 75W = 150W which is less than the 216w a 6pin can handle.  See links to psu cable and wattages i listed above.

Remember you have to add all the connection on the same chain together and respect the watt limits.

People use the sata because they are cutting corners on thier psus.

Anyways...thats the maths behind the power.  Stay on the right side of the limits and you should have zero issues.
802  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: smoke detector on: January 16, 2021, 07:26:11 PM
No surprise.

Sata can provide a MAX of 54w.  PCIe slot (riser in this case) must be able to supply up to 75w.  This is why it is a bad idea to use a sata to power a riser.

The actual specs require either a molex or a 6pin plug to provde enough power.  Sata does not meet it by almost 50%.

You can find plenty of sites that list the specifications.  You can ignore the facts.  When you melt or burn ... its on you.
If there are 3 sata power connectors on 1 wire, and 1 hard drive can consume 20-30 watts, then the wires must be designed for a load of 100 watts.
If the wire melted, then the transmitted power was more than 100 watts.

No sir.  Check the specs.  54w total on a sata chain for all connectors on that chain total.  Problem is a single PCIe can draw 75w.  You are trying to agrue against the specification of the connectors and wiring.  Just because you can plug 3 drives in doesnt mean it is safe to do..just like using a sata to 6pin converter is not safe.

Maximum current is 4.5amps at 12v for a sata connector and cables. 4.5v * 12v = 54w

Another page dedicated to specifications of pc power connectors.....  http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html

Amazing people will argue with a defined specification made by experts in the field...your flawed thinking is exactly what melts wires and starts fires.

804  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Wich motherboard... ZEC on: January 16, 2021, 01:28:11 PM
The problem is OP wants to mine ZEC using gpu.  This is a horrible idea.  ZEC is now mined by Asic.  You can hash away with GPU but OP will never do much with it.  A 3080 will hash at almost 1khs......problem is that will generate 0.0115 ZEC per MONTH....or $1.20 per month per rtx 3080.  In other words you would NEVER ROI.

You need to go back to early 2018 to be gpu mineable.

For $50 he can buy a used Z9mini and get 14-16khs on zec.  Or even get a bigger asic.  Gpus are not effective at mining ZEC any more...and havent for a long time.

805  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Review]: Linzhi Phoenix - 2700 MH/s Ethash asic miner on: January 16, 2021, 01:20:03 PM
Im unclear on why it would m8ne ETC.  None of the other asics on eth can do this.  Heck even the FPGAs on ETH require whole new bitstreams to do ETC now that the hard fork in ETc has occurred.

Can you shed more light on this? ETH and ETC no longer share an algo.

Running 1.19 for 2 days with no issues on SMOS. From a previous version the RX 4Gb cards hashrate has increased by 10% : 19-20Mh currently. Good job!

Nice hash it is nearly 3-4Mhs more than other miners... great job!!

Had to read that a couple of times...kept reading Nicehash 🤣

Eth has no limit on supply.
Grin has no limit on supply.

Nothing you have offered is not already covered.

You have almost no real info on the website.  Everything you have to say about this is covered in the first post you made.  The chart of emission makes it clear.  The deafening silence (no market / no miners) with it being around since 2019.  The complete lack of development on its github.  Its dead ...quit beating it.

ETH, Grin, Doge have constant tail emissions. The constant emission will be smaller and smaller relative to the circulating supply. It's the same as Bitcoin.

Here is Bitflates metrics:

https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/bitflate

2 years in and thats all its done....nothing.  Same as the github shows.

Hello guys, I found this interesting site:

https://www.cryptoprofi.info/?p=7356

Maybe we can upgrade our AMD 4GB cards to 8GB?

Someone here made this?

Wow I'm impressed, how the heck is this even possible? I hope I can do that on my own but where can one order for the 8gb memory chips? If there is a video tutorial about how to detached the chips and resolder the new chip I would definitely give a try, I'm not that great in handling a soldering machine but I'm still an average user

For starters you will not use a soldering iron you will need a hot air reflow and desolder station.
You can search smd desoldering paste and find videos and supply sellers.
Not as easy as it appears but certainly doable.

809  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What should a gpu miner have in his bag of tricks? on: January 15, 2021, 02:00:21 PM
Miner29, thank you.  Those are great points.  I had thoughts that spare fans would be good.  I am interested in your smart switches, would you mind sharing details with us on that?  I would like to be able to remotely control anything I can.  I use remote desktop software at work, so I can work from home if needed, just like I'm sitting there.  I would like to setup that same interface if possible for my rigs.  Probably mostly so I can count pennies every day LOL.  But I like the ability to be able to shut it down if needed, that's cool.  Do GPUs alert you if a fan goes out, or do you need to physically look at them to make sure they are all spinning?

The temp rise is the alert.  If you have the miner screen up you can see the fan speed drop or go to zero.  Usually its a gradual rising of temp as fans wear out.  What crazy is some fans didnt last a couple of years...some i have are on their 5th year running 24/7....
I run Ethos and mmpOS on my rigs so they monitor temp snd will shut down card or rig if a problem arises.

As for power plugs i use these...

https://www.amazon.com/KMC-Monitoring-Compatible-Required-Function/dp/B07313TH7B/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=kmc+plug&qid=1610718643&sr=8-1

The actual unit is marked at 100-240v.  I use pdus then have these on each plug on the pdu.  Also monitors power usage by the plug.  Phone app gives me control from anywhere.  Was the least expensive solution i found.  i have over 40 of them installed.   I only run them on rigs rated 10a so no where near that for a rig.  Need wifi for them to work.

They make a handy plug to go into my pdu C15R to the C14 plug on the switch.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IBIC1XG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you are on 110v power can plug straight to outlet.  For my biggest psus 2600watt...they take dual power plugs and just stick 2 switches one to each plug.  im on 240 so i have to use the little adapter plugs.

Call it what ever you want.  It is garbage.  Nothing new except you changed emission rate ....as stated on the website.  So no real code no real innovation,  We changed emissions....when there are literally thousands of real coins already out there....Some with real experiments and not just sad little me too copy boys behind it.  You list an exchange but there is no volume and no market for this coin.  Even if you mine it...it has no value.  Thats where your whole idea falls apart.  If people dont value it....it has no value.

You are same as several trying to ride the bull market to your wet dream.  But nobody values what you are doing because honestly its not even your work.  Its bitcoins bitcore.  And the value goes to there not to you.

The idea of Bitflate is to find a way to introduce inflation into crypto. Existing coins have limited supplies. The economic incentives are the same. You hold a bag of coins. The community pumps and dumps. Technology-focused coins, like Ethereum, claim to have better technology than Bitcoin. But it has the same economic incentives. I think this is why the whole market behaves the same way. Everyone pumps and dumps.

Many coins have tried to sell "new tech" value proposition. I don't think they have added much. I think inflation can unlock the Medium of Exchange use-case. Bitflate has a moderately high inflation rate, 7% per year. That makes it distinctive from the rest of the market. Bitcoin is a good model for making cryptocurrency. Bitflate is not about a new crypto technology. It's an experiment with economic incentives.

Eth has no limit on supply.
Grin has no limit on supply.

Mine are all covered on my business insurance and specifically listed.  But i dont mine at home...i have large industrial buidling.

Ive got smart switches on every rig so i can power up/down at will from anywhere. So for me 24/7/365 Smiley

Something i havent seen listed...FANS... extra fans for the problems that arise.  Both 100x100 or 120x120 but also spare gpu fans.  iroberts has been a reliable fan source for me...there are plenty.

And when a gpu fails and you cant get a replacement fan or its too expensive...the zip ties and the 100x100 or 120x120 will do the trick.

Turn off the m.2 slots

Gen2 on slots x1 is all that is needed.

set IOMMU to ENABLE.
set VIRTUALIZATION (C1E) to DISABLE.
set POWER CONTROL (SVM) to DISABLE.
set CPU UNLOCK to ENABLE (this may prevent CPU temp from being read properly).
set COOL AND QUIET to DISABLE.
set CPU CORE CONTROL equal to the amount of CORES PER PROCESSOR for your particular CPU make/model.
set ONBOARD AUDIO/SOUND (AZALIA) to DISABLE.
set IEEE1394 to DISABLE.
set APU ONBOARD GRAPHICS to DISABLE.
set CPU FREQUENCY SCALING to DISABLE.
set CPU PERFORMANCE MODE to ENABLE.
set FAST BOOT to DISABLE.
813  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is dual miner still good? on: January 14, 2021, 09:51:19 PM
ive answered this...you are not going to earn anything trying to mine against much higher hashrate asics.  You literally need x100 your hash to make less than a penny a day.

if you can help go ahead.. thanks for advise

You dont seem to understand...you cant generate enough hash to get any shares on the blake2s pool.  You are 2 magnitudes below the  minimum needed.....and that is less than a penny a day.

You have 82,000,000 hash....you need more like 10,000,000,000 to even mine a penny a day.  You have 0.082ghs.....the second number that makes $0.01 a day before power is 10.0ghs... so 100 rigs like yours would make less than 1 penny a day about $0.008 thats why all you see is 0....

Its a scale problem.  Not trying to be funny trying to explain...you would literally need 100X your system to see anything...depending on pool it might even take quite a bit more.

Zil is possible to dual mine but it only mines a little bit every so often.  Not like being able to mine Eth/DCR or other duals back in the day.

can anyone share good settings for 5700xt?
Thanks. First time touching these ... I just can't get how to set all different voltages /core/mem cvdd cvddci mvdd ...
for example use AMD.Memory.Tweak.XL.exe
core ~ 1300MHz at 912MHz memory frequency and ~ 1320MHz at 930MHz memory frequency on optimized timings, etc.
mem 912MHz or higher (at 912MHz memory frequency, SOK operates at 950MHz. With memory frequency higher than 912MHz, SOK operates at 1085MHz, so more voltage is required
SOK ~ 812mV at a memory frequency of up to 912MHz and about 840 at a memory frequency of 930MHz. change step 6
cvddci ~ 724mv change step 6
mvdd ~ 1302mV at a memory frequency of up to 912MHz and ~ 1326 and higher at a memory frequency of 930MHz. change step 6

but in general, each card needs its own settings, you need to adjust, then you can select the minimum necessary settings
I have a link to the site on the left under the name in russian with a description of my example

Where do I get AMD.Memory.Tweak.XL.exe?

Well you could search but let me get you the link.....

816  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Nicehash vs Betterhash on: January 14, 2021, 05:50:07 PM
Minergate, better hash, nicehash are all newbies mining platforms, these miners get things done for those who can't configure pools and miners themselves, fee is where the big difference lies, if you are good with claymore for example or phoenix miner you won't want to use Nicehash and betterhash

I dont think its fair to lump NH and BH in with the terrible likes of minergate.

NH/BH both are much better than a minergate which is just bad no matter how you look at it.

And the minergate pools are absolute TRASH pools.

1050ti stopped mining ETH weeks ago.  Either mine one of the other coins or get bigger vram gpus

that card will do kawpow on nicehash

https://www.nicehash.com/my/marketplace/KAWPOW

I think OP doesnt like that the card will only return about 1/3 of what mining ETH (if it were still possible with that card) than RVN.
But he did list ETH / MTP / RVN and listed the prices...maybe NH is paying more than BH...but either way its a big drop in what he expected to earn.

If you donīt know, how to push your cards to 30mh without claymore, then go fishing or plant some flowers. Sorry thats one of the basics to understand what is happen if i change vram timings, or mem speed or something else.

If say a fisherman or a gardener wanted to set some timings on a RX580 8GB, would he/she have to read through the entire thread on AMD Mem Tweak XL to learn what each parameter does, or is there a way to find timings that would probably work OK for a given card?

Yeah sure...there is a thread here (actually several) with how to mod a bios..... you listed one....maybe go read it.  If not some people offer the service to provide the moddified bios.  Threads are here as well.

There are mining OSes that also provide this.  So lots of choices.  Good luck.
