821  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: IPHONE & ANDROID USERS NEEDS TO BE EXTREMELY CAREFULL on: July 12, 2019, 03:00:42 PM
Use paper/pencil or other hardware air-gapped wallets. Crypto's gift of financial self determination also means you MUST be knowledgeable and practiced in basic security. The banks are not there to do it for you. Thanks for the warning on the apps.
822  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is crypto industry manipulated? How bad is it? on: July 12, 2019, 02:57:51 PM
You think it's bad now, wait until the financial industry bigshots start mucking around in this space seriously. Seriously, just look at all the 3rd world fraudsters on this site trying to separate you from your money and imagine that mentality wrapped in an Armani suit with 1e6 times the leverage. Of course the markets are manipulated. But the market is big, and with adoption it will get larger and tougher to manipulate.
823  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why president Donald trump is not a fan of bitcoin? on: July 12, 2019, 02:44:56 PM
... the only way to control bitcoin is thru 51% attack, which is very difficult to achieve even for potus. May be more regulation to centralized exchanges?

I agree and I suspect the regulatory efforts will be initially directed towards exchanges. They will attack the fiat to btc bridges and essentially cutoff law abiding citizens from practical access. Or they will try to anyway.
824  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is this the Donald Pump we've been waiting for? on: July 12, 2019, 02:37:05 PM
Trump is a good businessman! He knows what he's doing!

I think both of those statements are demonstrably false.

Solomining for now I think - once we've got some confirms of successful solomining, I think we'll look at updating all the mining methods.

Got a block solo mining, reward was 50.

Trump is a living embodiment of the Dunning-Kruger effect. If his incompetence actually causes more eyes on crypto then that would be hilarious.

A true believer would use Ledger Nanos instead of dominoes.
828  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: trading and selling crypto is illegal. bank wants to know source of income on: July 11, 2019, 08:52:18 PM
Four things never come back: the spoken word, the sped arrow, the past life, and the neglected opportunity!

That's really profound, I've never heard that saying before. Good one to remember.

You know BTC has gone mainstream when pump and dump boiler room hacks start to show up selling their snake oil. Usually those guys just organize team buys (and then sell out from under their team) instead of actually asking for cash up front. Pretty ballsy or some other word better fitting. You might have more luck at a smaller cap altcoin though.

^ So when does the Federal Reserve start holding BTC in addition to gold?

LOL, can you imagine? As long as they don't suddenly decide it is illegal for citizens to hold BTC like gold used to be.
832  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum will reach $ 2500 on: July 11, 2019, 05:24:22 PM
One thing for sure is that ETH's supply is virtually unlimited.

I thought the upgrades were going to set a cap? And/or set the inflation rate such that when combined with the retiring/loss of coins actually creates a stable or slightly shrinking supply?

834  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: 🔴【ANN】【PREICO】🔴 📽 PROJECT FILMGRID 🎞 DECENTRALIZING THE MOVIE INDUSTRY 🎞 🔴 on: July 11, 2019, 03:06:51 PM
Interesting project. Since you are targeting the indie film maker (and customer) crowd it would make a lot of sense to be able to have a section where filmmakers could network with film oriented talent such as composers, engineers, animators, insurance, lawyers, various crew, etc and create work contracts via the Ethereum network. A lot of indie film makers have no contacts at all and this would be a good way of bridging the divide between them and the Hollywood machine in a positive way. That would be more useful than a blockchain streaming service I think.

Sure, is there an update to hodlminer also or do we need to do solo mining for now for v4.0?

10.3 seconds per hash!

Gotta love the mad scientist geniuses. That's so beautiful you get my last merit.

is it "halving" or "halvening"?
enquiring minds need to know....

It's halfling.

It is just a game of risk management.

You buy some risky assets, some less-risky assets, some solid assets, some barbaric relics... All has its spot in the game.

Sounds about right to me. I always get a chuckle on these boards when posters (present company excluded of course) recommend diversifying and their idea is to buy as many different tokens as possible.
