"But how will you know who to send the silver to?" you ask.

Well, if you want to be eligible for the Silver Prize, then you must leave the bitcoin address you used to purchase the Gold Coin with, in a comment below! When the chain is reset I will look to see who the last person in line was, compare the address with those on this thread, and will then send a PM to the Prize Winner!

Actually there's an even better way to verify Bitcoin address ownership. Most clients allow signing messages with Bitcoin address private keys. Some users might opt to authenticate by posting here first, but for the larger prizes or for people who don't know about this thread it is another option.

are there any shipping fees for the gold coin and how long does shipping usually take

xD good one!

The Gold Coin is virtual. you buy it and then hope someone comes along and buys it from you. you should read all the info in the FAQ.

have fun!

This would actually make these games interesting. Adding the option of a "winner" receiving physical delivery of a precious metal item might actually attract people to this revamped version of Hot Potato.

Mother of God... Now THAT is a good idea!!

And the wheels start to turn...

Ok I've got a plan.  Haitispaceagency, can I send you a silver dime? You will be the first to get a prize! PM me with your address! And I will edit my OP to reflect the new rules, and rewards!

I don't know what kind of capital you are willing to put forward to differentiate your chain game, but Coinabul has rolls of 20 Walking Liberty Half Dollars. For higher coin amounts, the 1 or 2.5 gram PAMP Suisse bars might be worth it.

If you're spending this kind of capital though, you might as well look at building some other games and calling it a casino.
823  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: The Platinum Bar on: February 27, 2013, 04:07:48 AM
you need a flashy website with a picture of a platinum bar centered at the top of the page

only then will the coins flow through you... Cheesy

I knew I was missing something!

If you want to really impress people with a precious metal you probably ought to combine a Rhodium bar and a time machine to 2007-2008.
824  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: BitBet.us, how much does it pay? on: February 27, 2013, 04:06:00 AM
Hi everyone,

I have a couple of questions about bitbet.us .

Firstly, is there anyway to calculate the payout on a bet you have made with them if you are correct? (even if a rough estimate).

Secondly, I read in the FAQ that you can earn bitcoins by proposing your own bets, but it does not state how much. Does anyone know know much (if anything) you get once one of your proposed bets finishes?

These are the bets that I proposed:
http://bitbet.us/bet/253/sonys-playstation-4-will-ship-before-the-end/
http://bitbet.us/bet/254/btc-usd-at-mtgox-will-be-above-35-on/

Here is the FAQ:
http://bitbet.us/faq/

When you propose a bet, one of the initial amounts (the smaller one) gets tied to an address you supply. If that bet wins, you get paid. At least that's how I understand it works. I've proposed two bets that haven't been resolved yet.

The first is on the MLB Season opener between the Astros and Rangers. I proposed it with a rather high ending weight to keep it attractive up until the bet closes to attract low information bettors who might think the Astros might actually win and more sophisticated bettors who might spot an arbitrage opportunity, but would be turned off if the weight dropped too much.

The second is a World Series bet I made drunk when Stan Musial died. The weight on this bet drops as far as the site allows, but it is also open potentially through the second game of the world series if the Cardinals drop out sooner. I opened this bet with the a bit of a hedge, because this is probably going to attract more action as the season goes on and the weight is dropping low eventually.

I've proposed other bets as well, but I think as a matter of etiquette a guideline I follow is that the less time a bet is open the less I am going to let the weight drop. With the exception of bets that could be resolved early such as this sort of bet (not one of mine), in these cases let the weight drop aggressively to not too richly reward people who throw their bets in when the future is all but certain.

The thing is they hardly happen anyways, and the best way would be just asking users to post their addresses.

This tends to be the way it happens. Something like:

Works wonders and tends to filter out spam.

The quoted offer will be honored as a demonstration of the technique.

Please dump your private keys (in qt, go to the debug console and type dumpprivkeys [address]) and then import them to an alternate wallet like Blockchain.info My Wallet.

That might be a bit overkill at the moment...

What about starting the client from the command line with the --rescan flag? If you are on Linux the command line shouldn't be too foreign to you, and if you are synced with the blockchain rescanning is surprisingly fast.
828  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Failed Transaction - how do I resend/fix? on: February 26, 2013, 11:37:52 AM
Hi all,
I purchased some bitcoins back in April of 2011 and didn't do anything with them until recently.  I had my wallet in my Windows 7 partition, which I don't use much anymore, but I logged in to see if I even still had my bitcoin wallet over there. Sure enough I did, and was still running an earlier version of Bitcoin-Qt.

I tried to send from that client to my new bitcoin address, but the transaction was stuck at 0/unconfirmed for over an hour. Figuring something was wrong, I upgraded to the latest Bitcoin-Qt, but everytime I tried to lauch it, it crashed.

Since I didn't want to stick around in Windows anyway, I copied my wallet.dat over to my Linux partition, grabbed the Bitcoin-qt client for Ubuntu, and overwrote the new wallet.dat with my old one.  The client seemed to recognize the old transactions fine - but my balance says 0.  The transaction I tried to send (ea0491518bb8c52f1ba514a67d5c67db0ed8ab70b78b2a19d1e1de5c9edc95c8 to address 15hVDzGnQdywsKWwmkjr2TwA83wDdYfcav) is still stuck at 0/unconfirmed.

I can't send the bitcoins again, the client says I don't have that much in my balance.

Anyway to tell the client to push the transaction to the network again?

What version of Qt and was your client synced?
829  Economy / Gambling / Re: Any sports bettors here? on: February 26, 2013, 10:53:42 AM
I'll use anonibet most of the time since they offer every single footaball (soccer) league, tournament, friendly, international match i could possible think of or want to bet on. They also have a good amount of options on NBA and NFL, and I guess they'll cover MLB too and easy as shit to use and make parlays etc. If I'm just making a simple "whos gonna win" bet I'll compare anonibet, bit365, blockbet.net and bet which ever has the better odds  Grin. Anonibet has been pissing me off the past couple of days tho so I've just been using bit365 abd blockbet since they pay out in a timely manner. Gonna check out BitBet and see what thats all about.

I've been using Blockbet a lot recently.

Bitbet's interesting because of the parimutuel structure, but it is a bit lacking the volume of sports bettors at the moment that would make betting on most events parimutuel interesting. There tend to be a lot of lopsided bets to snipe because of this though  Grin

An example is that http://bitbet.us/bet/151/st-louis-cardinals-will-win-the-2013-world/ is the only World Series bet they have open at the moment, and the odds are quite divergent from what the traditional books are offering.
830  Economy / Gambling / Re: Nevada opens pathway to legal Bitcoin gambling in the US on: February 26, 2013, 10:37:11 AM
Isnt technically bitcoin poker legal in US already? seems to atleast be in the gray zone as its not yet defined as "real money"

Several of the bitcoin casinos are operating on servers located in the US actually..

Memorize this line:

Quote
No officer, I wasn't gambling. I was playing this massively multiplayer augmented reality game called Bitcoin on the Internet. Gambling minigames are just part of the larger Bitcoin game.

And to whether bitcoins are real money:

Quote
Officer of course the coins in the game Bitcoin aren't currency. They are simply the credits you acquire to keep playing the game. When you lose all of your coins you are out of the game. It's just like Mario except the coins you have left represent the remaining life you have in the game.

And when they ask what sort of fantasy elements are in the game:

Quote
Of course there are fantasy elements, I play the game as a troll.

Kiln has arrived. My goal now is to get it set up as fast as possible. First, I have to get the room ready. Waiting for the landlord to get her ass in gear etc. and then it's electricians turn.
Do not worry, I am not sitting around and picking my nose Smiley I am constantly looking for potential clients, etc.

For people who might be interested in renting kiln time with cryptocoins, where roughly might this studio be located?

Have you guys put in any consideration of adding college basketball games? I know totals aren't found on some sportsbooks, but most have spreads.

Sorry for the delay. I think we are able to add more leagues to our selection, so the question is... what or which leagues? I know NCAA basketball is very popular, but like you said I can't guarantee that all games and selections will be available every night. I'll take a look into it anyway.

Don't forget NBA returns tonight with 9 games, we'll have those odds online very soon!

[edit] Forgot to mention that we've added more goal and goal scorer selections to our Champions League games!

It's late enough in the College hoops season that it might be worth waiting till the tournament opens up to start hosting bets.

Why do you say that? As a bookie, in the long run he's going to make money from it no matter what. More games equals more chances to win money.

It would be an interesting experiment allowing him to see what teams generate betting interest and the tournament cuts the number of teams down to a more manageable size. In think part of the problem with going full bore on College Basketball is there are just so many games, even if you try to limit it to the televised Division I games, more just seem to keep crawling out of the woodwork.

By the way, please post your ID and stuff. Unless you want to be reported to the Spanish police that is.

What ID and stuff? Anyone can – as in able to – report anyone – including themselves and dead people – for whatever they want. I am considering whether or not to report you for improperly spelling "kinda lulzy" and omitting a colon between "police" and "that is" due to multiple violations of the Oxford English Dictionary. Who knows, you might be sentenced to death and executed by a Chief Executioner of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland for those crimes.

You wouldn't probably know about it because you're new, but back when paraipan was himself a wee tyke just like yourself all the way back in like 2011, he threw a complete shitfit over MtGox not sending "their ID" to him on demand, and registered a complaint with whatever nearby police station (in Spain somewhere I think). He nearly got burned at the stake on irc for it, was a pretty funny convo, lols were had etc.

Did not know about this. Perils of being a latecomer I guess.
