881  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When 50-75 people control 90% of Bitcoin supply, has it ever been decentralized on: June 15, 2014, 07:26:42 PM
This is the elephant in the room no one likes to discuss, alot is made about ghash gaining control of 51% of the hash rate, but what about the elite few who actually own all the Bitcoins? Are we not equally at their mercy as the big mining pools?

We are.
They can, if they choose, drop down price to whatever level they want (by selling huge quantities of BTC on open market).
But, doing so would damage "them" more than it would damage "us", so it's kinda self healing / reapiring system. Not many are willing to commit economic suicide "just for funs".
882  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which Bitcoin Client do you use and why ? on: June 15, 2014, 06:40:33 PM
I use Multibit...i dont have much BTC so i don't need to worry about security toomuch. Once it get's serious it's moving to cold storage anyway....
883  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Hrvatski (Croatian) on: June 15, 2014, 06:38:47 PM

884  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Hrvatski (Croatian) on: June 15, 2014, 06:14:46 PM

885  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: GHash.IO has 51% of the network now on: June 14, 2014, 07:53:57 AM
Bitcoin protocol needs to be changed so noone never can get that much power again. It can be done. You can limit amount of blocks one entity can get in a row, you can change many, many things to prevent people from getting all into one basket.
Question is...why devs didint already change it?

Because you can't. It's anonymous. You can not tell who actually mined a block. It would be easy for one pool to make itself look like five pools with 10% each but still being the one 50% pool.

Of course it CAN be done. They can, if they wanted, force only p2p pools (which ar enothing like ghash and rest of em). They can do all sorts of changes to prevent massing of hash under control of 1 entity and they can do much muhc more. There are examples in other alt coins but hey...if it's easyer for you to think this way, who am i to break your dreams....
886  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Dev Sells 50% of his Bitcoin due to 51% threat. on: June 14, 2014, 07:49:38 AM
Is he concerned about a design flaw within Bitcoin or a design flaw with the open source project system?

ACH/EFT has had numerous attacks against it and numerous design flaws. The responsible team discovers the problem and corrects it, no big deal. That's what needs to happen with the design flaws within Bitcoin. The problem isn't that Bitcoin has a basic design flaw it's that no one is fixing it.

Solutions are already being talked about.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/282j4m/petamine_1150_ths_is_considering_joining_p2pool/

P2Pool with a subsidy provided by the greater community (I'd throw them a couple coins a year) would do wonders. It could very easily become the most profitable place to mine if the community made it so.

I'm anticipating this being the scenario in the not too distant future.

I've been reading this 51% attack crap since early 2011 and it isn't fixed yet. Why? Is it because back then it was just Tycho, Slush, Eleuthria, Graet, LukeJr and a few others. They are all swell guys and would never hurt the network, right? Well, that's the thinking of a child's mind. You don't let a major issue sit unsolved for over three years where money is involved. I read a thread once where Gavin was talking to etotheipi and rambling on about prioritizing issues because he could only handle so much at a time. Tough shit. You can't handle the workload then get more people. Bitcoin is no longer here just to intellectually stimulate a select group of developers. It's real money we're talking about.

You would think that the foundation might spend some of that money it's built up on more programmers. I'm sure there are lots of extremely talented people in the world who would love a chance to work on a challenging project like bitcoin.

I don't even think it's about willing bodies to do the job. The ego of a control freak has stifled development for years now. I assumed when Gavin stepped down things would change but I guess I was wrong. I was hoping  Wladimir would be more open to radically altering Bitcoin for the better. Especially since he's a damn good coder and the author of Dropship (effectively hacking Dropbox's servers). I guess I was wrong. Their going to sit on major necessary changes forever.

Thing is, major changes are affecting current mining system and, sorry to break your dream, but hardware companyies are way too deep into BTC development and as long as they have paws on bitcoin devs, nothing that could affect mining will change.
Only way i can see a change is something bad happening, so that devs have no more room for bullshiting like : "community will regulate itself" or "ASIC's are protectors of network" and are forced to change stuff they should have changed LONG time ago (protection of network on software level etc.)
887  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paypal surveying about bitcoin. on: June 14, 2014, 07:44:06 AM
This isn't paypal trying to "integrate" Bitcoin, it's paypal assessing the THREAT of Bitcoin.

Paypal is an awfully greedy company, we shouldn't be trying to get Bitcoin involved with Paypal, we should be lobbying to get eBay to adopt Bitcoin and/or integrate with a reputable service like Coinbase so we no longer need paypal for eBay.

You my friend have no idea how is PayPal working or how are they making money.  Bitcoin is no threat to PayPal AT ALL. Bitcoin is possible tool that they can use to earn even more money! Only question in their mins is: "How spread it is, and do our customers use it and does it pays off to get trough HELL of administration to enable usage of it trough our service".
And last part is what's hlding em back (administration). Once laws get in place, they will jump on it like teenage boy would jump on porn star.

Jel zna neko da li ce jos bitcoin da nastavlja da pada Huh Huh HuhBTC

Cc... Zna, baba Vanda. Cheesy LOL .
A posle toga TO THE MOON!

889  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: GHash.IO has 51% of the network now on: June 13, 2014, 10:26:16 PM
You can't trust humans or human nature - that's the whole damn point of Bitcoin. We don't trust CENTRAL BANKS so why the hell would we trust GHASH.IO ??!!

they need to be SHUT DOWN AND DISMANTLED before they destroy Bitcoin.

No m8. It's not Ghas's fault. It's 1) miners fault for not moving hash power somewhere else, and b) bitcoin protocol that did not prevet that from hapening even tho it already happened before.

Bitcoin protocol needs to be changed so noone never can get that much power again. It can be done. You can limit amount of blocks one entity can get in a row, you can change many, many things to prevent people from getting all into one basket.
Question is...why devs didint already change it?
Whole point of Bitcoin is that you don't need to trust anyone, and devs say: "we wont change anything as we thing that community will fix itself" ie "trust into community".
Well...ain't that kinda contradictory. Dont trust anyone but trust community?

It wont work that way...you just cant trust people! If you could, we would not need BTC....fiat would be working w/o problems, bank wouldnt steal and print like crazy etc.

GG

Ma ima stvarno hrpa prijedloga. Problem je sto devovi nece mrdnut malim prstom sve dok se ne desi veliko sranj i cijeli projekt dodje pod upitnik.
A zasto nece dignut mali prst?

892  Other / Off-topic / Re: Best multiplayer Game You played? on: June 13, 2014, 09:44:57 PM
Eve Online.
Show me Multiplayer game where there are 2000 ppl battleing LIVE on SAME SERVER in one single huge space fight? No sharding, no spliting into "rooms" nothing...one huge single battlefield....2000+ ppl
Eve is TOP of the MP expirience.
After Eve even BF batles with tanks and planes and all that feel kinda small.

Firefox. I tried Chrome, but something is bugging me there...i dont know. Maybe it's something deep inside me, knowing that it's Googles tool for spying on us...I dunno...i stick with Firefox even tho it's not fastest thing on planet earth...
895  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why do people deny the climate change? on: June 13, 2014, 09:39:53 PM
Answer to this topic is as same as: "Why ppl mine at Ghas even tho they know they could fuck up whole network".
In short: "People are greedy morons".

They do not care about thir own children, they do not care about anyone else, anywhere else....just themselves.
896  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is it taking so much time to have Bitcoin ATM machines worldwide ? on: June 13, 2014, 08:38:49 PM
not many businesses operate in this niche. they will come, i am sure. but for now, it's a new niche, and rolling out a million bitcoin ATMs would be a very expensive and risky.

Why would it be risky ?

It would require large amount of money to produce ATM's and all that any country needs to do to shut them down is simple low level law. It wouldnt be risky for places where BTC is normal everyday stuff, but "whole world"....there are alot of undecided countries that can swing both ways.

For ATM manufactureres, it would be like gabling 50%/50%...no business operates like that.
897  Economy / Economics / Re: Would u pay in bitcoin? on: June 13, 2014, 08:34:38 PM
My question is if u see something u would like to buy and this item is offered at a lower price if paid using bitcoins, providing that you don't already have a wallet or coins would you take the time to set up a wallet and buy bitcoins just to be able to receive a discount on the item u wish to purchase?
I believed atm most people would not bother and pay full price,
WHY IS THIS SO?

Depends from person to person. I created PayPal account only to protect my credit card data from bunch of users. I created skrill account only to cut my expenses in trading some Bitcoin (much lower fees than PayPal). So yes, i would if change is something i feel is worth it. 1$ is not worth it for sure...5$+? Who knows, depends on my mood in that moment. 10$+ sure, i would.
So...bsicly, answer would be: "depends on how much that "something" costa and how much i would be able to save". I'm guessing, more expensive item is, better price i would get.
898  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Hrvatski (Croatian) on: June 13, 2014, 08:30:46 PM
Nija bas skroz u pravu.
Svi zaboravljaju "luck" parametar u majnanju.
Ukoliko imaju spreman softwer u tom trenutku, eto ti double spendinga.
Isto tako, i sa 60%, ako nemas srece ce ti tu i tamo uletit neki pool i razjebat stvar.

Da...sansa da se to desi je manja kako raste postotak, i sve to, al kazem...nije to onako crno bijelo kako ljudi misle. "Jao vidi 50.01%!!! Gotovo je". Ne nije...nema razlike izmedju 49.99% i 50.01%

No da je problem velik to sigurno. Uvjek sam tvrdio i jos uvjek tvrdim, ASIC-i nisu nikakvi cuvari mreze.

899  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Dev Sells 50% of his Bitcoin due to 51% threat. on: June 13, 2014, 08:18:06 PM
GHASH has already stated that they will work on implimenting new features that will allow people who buy hash to point to a pool of their choosing. They are working to eliminate the fear that people have.

Very interesting. You got a link by chance?

There was a post on their blog not so long ago about that.
And that's totaly ok...i rent ghs and i tell where it will mine. That's how it should be from the start (i do understand that it wa snot needed so...)
900  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Dev Sells 50% of his Bitcoin due to 51% threat. on: June 13, 2014, 08:17:24 PM
I don't think the dev team views this as a problem that should be solved by technology and instead one that should be solved by the community.
First thing Bitcoin community learned me is : "never trust anyone"
Secont thing is that bitcoin, as peer to peer, open source, whatnot is created so we dont need to trust anyone (central auth etc.). So basicly, if they are not fixing it and "trust that community will solve it" than that's like backstabbing yourself in the back. First you say: "Hey guys, look, ill give you tool that will enable you to control your own wealth w/o any central auth" and than few sentances after they say: "yes but you have to trust..."
Sorry but that holds no credit with me.
Almost every problem Bitcoin has, should be solved by software (changing protocol) not by hardware, or god forbid community.
