Weekly progress report

This was a rather slow week. Most of it was consumed by client skeleton development. It might seem simple to integrate a browser into your app, but for C++ and IE it's not as easy as dropping a control on your form, I dare you try it Smiley

903  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: April 27, 2014, 09:29:13 AM
has any one any experience with code academy? and when it comes to cryptos.. whats the best language to learn? iv done a good bit in jave but not a massive amount. so would it be best to continue with java?

Hello.

Code academy is good is some ways but in other it isn't.
For example there are a lot of exercises with solutions which is good but i think the way
that things are explained there is not good for people without any experience in programming.
I'm saying this because i know people that completed some of this courses on code academy
and got those points there but when a assignment was given to them they were unable
to solve simple problems.

From that perspective I would suggest you to check some beginners  programming
courses on coursera at https://www.coursera.org/

Also when it comes to cryptos or in general what is the best language to learn I would say
start with python if you have no experience at all.
Then when you master this and the programming principles gets clear to you than you
can switch to other languages easy.

If you started with java and if understanding of (OOP) Object Oriented Programming is not
a big deal for you than you should stick with Java until you get some experience
and try to make some small programs with it.

I hope i helped you little bit Wink

Bye.
904  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Nxt] API of Nxt on: April 25, 2014, 12:21:40 AM
Is this the best place for all information associated with the API?  Is there a better resource for all updates and calls to the API?

Hello.

There is also another thread regarding NXT API.
Check this one:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=406839.0

or maybe is better that you go to the nxt forum at
https://nxtforum.org/

Almost all NXT discussion has moved there.

Consider that there are a lot of POS coins that distribute stakes at no cost and they are sold at 1 - 2 btc after 1 week. The Majority have no innovation, no major plans, no real long term looking community, no no dev team and a lot of other problems. If people understand the difference between signal and noise and the immense potential that lays in this project then I think the price will be easily well above 3 btc, maybe around 5 - 10 btc or more.

Now there are a lot of fake Nem supporters that try to spread a wrong message about Nem and its price with the hope of buying it very cheap.

In any case we must not forget that a lot of time, energy and effort has been put into this project and without a doubt there will be some real whales who will pay real money to get some more Nem stakes. This project is very different from the average clone or shitcoin, just look the the demographics of this great community, at the projects being developed(https://trello.com/b/GEWEPSZJ/nem-promotion) and draw some conclusions.

Problem with IPOs is that there are lot of speculators that invest and that are looking for short time gains
and those people will likely dump the coin soon as possible because in their heads
at the end is all calculated in FIAT Sad

It would be wise for NEM stakeholders to distribute the coin gradually by offering bounties
for projects to build applications and services and infrastructure that will use the coin
and not just sell the coin for dirty cheap or dirty expensive.

Ask your self what can you do with 1M NEM what business could you start what service or application
can you make and not just how to sell (dump) the coin.

People please stop thinking only in terms of FIAT (MarketCrap,USD,EUR) and try to understand a bigger picture
how crypto currency can save us from the current state of things and from the power of the few
and give us more economic freedom.

906  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | IPO | Escrow | 100% POS | New Source | Beta Available on: April 24, 2014, 11:45:46 AM
Anyone got any serious offers to sell part or all of their stake. I was thinking 3 BTC for 1 BTC stake...

I asked on here and the PM offers I got were ridiculous to say the least.

3/1 is ridiculous. IPO price was about 1.3 satoshi per QOR. Not let's look at Nas - simple clone of Nxt with absolutely nothing new to offer. What is it price? Around 9-10 satoshi atm. Was up to 25 satoshi a couple of days ago. And it'll grow fast for sure.

So the minimum price for Qora is 20-30 satoshi right after launch, which means 1 btc stake costs minimum 15 btc.
100 satoshi is the minimum price.
Qora can compete with NXT.
One of major shortcomings of NXT is wallet client. It's not friendly for average people.
If qora has a better wallet client, it will attract more people than NXT.

I agree. But some people might decide that 1500% return is good enough for them. I also think that we need to start at 20-30 satoshi because we need good distributiion. What's the reason to sit on your coins, we need to spread them.

I already removed that subtitle when NEM evolved. NEM took some ideas from Bitcoin, Nxt, XCP etc. but both NIS and NCC are written from scratch.

What do NIS and NCC stand for?

Hello
Here is the explanation:

NIS = NEM Infrastructure Server
NCC = NEM Community Client

Hello.

Is this IPO still open?
If yes can invest some BTC by sending from an exchange or do I need to send from

Thanks.

Yes totally agree with you, FIAT = just toilet-paper.

just look at what happens here in Europe with us they don't even need to print money, if they need more money to put into failing countries

(ie cyprus etc..) they just steal it from our bank accounts and give it away in a bottomless well.

At least as long as Crypto keeps a value and is not banned trough the whole world, you can have your money that is almost impossible for some

government to steal from you. ( if you are smart enough not to let it steal of course )

You are right, as long as your money is on the bank they can take it away with a press of a button, and they will if they need to!!
Your money is not safe in banks, they use your money to lend out to other people and catch interest on that, but for every euro that gets deposited they can lend it out an X amount of times, this is called fractional banking and this means that if everyone where to get there money at the bank only a few people on the front would actually get their money because they only have a limited amount in stock.( Sounds like Greece )
I invested an x% of my money in metals ( gold & silver ) because of their intrisic value to protect me from this, I actually don't see any reason to keep money ( savings ) on the bank, with inflation it costs money to keep it at the bank and it's not even safe!

And about bank control; here in The Netherlands you are now required to send your phone number(!) for verification and a bank verification the first time just to buy Bitcoins. Sad
I researched a bit who and why, an organisation called Currence responsible for payments here (IDEAL, PIN, CHIPKNIP) has an 'know your customer'-policy, and guess who is behind Currence, it was formed in 2005 by 8 Dutch banks (ABN AMRO, Rabobank, ING, Fortis, SNS Bank, BNG, Friesland Bank en Van Lanschot Bankiers).

When you say that you have invested in metals does it mean that you have bought gold and physically stored it somewhere in vault by yourself or you bought some "paper" that represent value of gold stored somewhere by a financial corporation?
If the 2nd is the case then it may happen that the gold does not exists Wink
and that you have bought toilet paper just like with other FIAT currencies.

If you invested in papers then is not safe like just FIAT
912  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: April 20, 2014, 08:17:45 AM
Initially, was advertised the fair distribution of NEM, and now yet only 75% are distributed to stakeholders!

@ Utopianfuture

The remaining 25% be used in the meantime to forking?
That would be very unfair!

max 10% for devs
remain min 15% for future dev of the ecosystem, bounties, charity, whatnot

What do you mean forking ?

Here is something to think about for everyone.

FAIR is not the same as EQUAL

If someone puts in 100% more work than someone else then it is fair for that person to get 100% more out of it don't you think ?
Do you think it would be more fair if a dev that devotes many hours each week into developing the software get's an equal amount of NEM as someone thats has merely paid a small fee to join NEM ? That would not be fair that would just mean they get an equal amount.

Someone said earlier that BCNext was the fairest developer. That's not true. If he really didn't take more than any of the other stakeholders than he's generous not fair. It would have been very fair of him to take more.

Please keep this in mind guys when discussing "fairness" in the future.

+1
913  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] eMunie (EMU) - NOT a BitCoin fork/clone - call for beta testers on: April 19, 2014, 10:40:46 AM

@updates from devs and stuff:

Major updates are always on the first page of this thread. Smaller updates are posted by UP if deemed necessary.
The truth sometimes there is just nothing new to report. Would you rather hear "we're working on it" every day instead of some bigger updates from time to time ? Smiley

I'm droping by quite often (multiple times a day) and try to answer any questions and relay any infos to the team. Some things are also not meant for the public yet as they aren't final and we wan't to avoid "but you said" shitstorms.

Google translate doesn't give me much (at least I don't really get it) so please ask in english.

This is how i understood his question:

I want to know whether NEM will be a decentralized crypto platform on which will be possible to
build (host) decentralized internet sites and autonomous decentralized companies (DACs)?

Looking forward on this issue, because the general global decentralization
- This is our future and a step towards a new development of all mankind in general.

The sad thing is NXT was the only real innovation and people have decided to shy away from it due to some bullshit idea about fairness. All the features people have wanted came first in NXT. I don't care how many times developers say they are completely rewriting NXT code they are copying the original. The original ideas were clearly NXT. I didn't see any 2nd gen coins until NXT open the floodgates.  At least NAS doesn't try pretend to be anything other than a rip off.

Everything since NXT has been about making money for developers cause they realized people will send them money whether or not a new coin is any good or not...Its a personal opinion but if people had actually rallied around NXT and put the word out that this was the new and better Bitcoin then we would all own a great system which would of been tens of times more in price than now. Instead we followed developers trying to make a buck and now we have a fragmented market. I applaud innovation and the best man wins but this move away from NXT was actually reversing the idea that the best system wins, instead going for BS announcements from developers about their coin being better or more fairer than NXT for very minor differences. Basically I'm saying we all lost in the end. NXT could of pushed crypto to the next stage, instead we got a turf war..

Its all BS. You want NXT functions, use NXT. You want to use NXT functions use a clone that was made to make the developer money. That's your choices. Take your pick.

EMunie guy has been shown to have a past in fraudulent activities and scams. GREAT!!!

Why are you so pessimistic?

NXT had an unfair launch. That is true. It started also like a beta test. Everyone got tired of it. Every week or day there was a client update. eMunie, eXo and Qora are all based on different source code, or so they seem to be, thus they are something completely different than nxt. Skycoin and etherium will be different too. There is space and potential in all these.

Anyway, back to the subject

Did you invest in Qora?

Yes. Through Anon

Hello.

How do you invest trough Anon?
Is it enough to send the amount to his BTC address or
is needed to send also a PM with TX id and the info.

Thanks.

Screenshots prove nothing. Many an IPO scam has had screenshots.

The bare minimum for any IPO should be a well known escrow service provider to hold the BTC. This is a bare minimum, and any IPO that refuses should be immediately questioned.

On the 1st page it says under Escrow:

Escrow is available. For more details check out the link below

920  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: April 13, 2014, 05:04:14 PM

Clearly, the multipool is not the only factor. Blackcoin has brought some innovation to the market(the multipool), has gathered an enthusiast community and comes with no premine and no inflation because it is POS.

It has inflation but is very low in total 1% yearly inflation.

Which is still high for a crypto as most $Fiat see 1% to 3% inflation in a year and it adds up over the decades.

It depends how you look at it.
1% on total supply of 70 and something million is not that much the value won't decrease
it could stabilize the value of the coin to not raise to fast as wider  adoption of this coin is expected in future.
