901  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: StrongCoin.com just published a method to generate off-line transactions on: November 14, 2011, 06:00:34 PM
I tried using the offline transaction generator. Two things--  It doesn't seem to work in IE (but does in Firefox), and it doesn't seem to work when you add a transaction fee (but does if you leave it at 0).

What version if IE were you using? The bitcoinJS library that strongcoin uses does not work in IE7.
IE9 on Win7.
902  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Casascius Coins - Series 2 on: November 14, 2011, 05:06:45 PM
just how many of the Original Series were made?
According to the FAQ (https://www.casascius.com/faq.aspx), under 11k.

There will never be more than 11,000 of the original series coins, probably much fewer than this

Nice. I wonder if the coins I ordered a couple days ago are among them. Smiley
904  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Transaction fee? on: November 14, 2011, 04:38:37 PM
I have set up another computer and so a second wallet just to play around a little. Now on the second wallet I mined 0.05 BTC and I wanted to transfert them to my primary wallet. The clients says I need to pay a transaction fee. But I heard, that its possible to transfer BTC *without* paying a fee. How does that work?  Huh

You can always import the private key into your new wallet.
Yes.  You can search for pywallet, install it and use that to import the private keys into your main wallet, instead of sending the BTC via a transaction.
905  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I can't post anywhere this is bs. on: November 14, 2011, 04:36:24 PM
Okay, so I've found something in google and now to actually ask this person a question I need to do some stupid stuff. Yay!
You can also ask your question in the newbie section.  It is not unmonitored.
906  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why are people losing faith? on: November 14, 2011, 04:34:52 PM
I think we need both easier ways to buy them, and more reasons to buy as well (more products and services that can be purchased with BTC)

^ Click the 'notify' link
down there
That's only for email notifications, right?  I was referring to the "Show new replies to your posts." link, unfortunately. Sad

909  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Start Using Bitcoin! on: November 14, 2011, 04:28:11 PM
I just realized we've been down this road before: putting the cart before the horse. Here we are discussing banner ads, bumper stickers, TV, radio and podcast ads, trying to drum up supporters and users prior to having a usable infrastructure in place. It's analogous to us heavily promoting Karl Benz's invention prior to having any highways on the drawing board--we may be able to get everyone desiring a Benz, but where will they go?

I firmly believe the solution lies within this video which has been linked to many times on this forum: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp0HIF3SfI4

Enjoy!

Thanks for the video, I hadn't seen that.

In a practical sense, instead of trying to promote bitcoin, we need to start accepting BTC for our products and services, and use BTC when possible to purchase products and services.
910  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Warning: Fake Casascius Physical Bitcoins website on: November 14, 2011, 04:14:20 PM
I disagree with btc_novice. Do not *ever* negotiate with someone like that, unless to somehow trick him. Doing that can be considered worse than scamming itself, as it helps making such actions profitable.
That's actually a very good point. I agree.

I bid a pencil drawing of a bitcoin, scanned and sent to you (or posted here). :p

Yup, that's what I was referencing. Smiley

I also don't see a reason for the .5% fee if development work is not continuing.
The original work is still worthy of remuneration, BUT, given the nature of this project and OS code, it should be an optional donation.

I'd love to be proven wrong on this though.
I don't think you can be.

Cool butterflylabs.com (the domain) used to be a butterfly gardening forum. http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://butterflylabs.com/*

EDIT: Oops, didn't see this had already been posted.

EDIT2: Wanted to mention you can create a WY corporation online for a few hundred bucks. http://www.google.com/search?q=wyoming%20corporation%20online

919  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin: "A Self-Contained Financial System" on: November 11, 2011, 09:43:13 PM
i think this is a good way to describe Bitcoin to the world.
I think "A secure, decentralized payment system" would be a better way to describe it so the average person (1) understands what it is, and (2) isn't scared off thinking it's some type of subversive, anarchistic movement.
920  Economy / Marketplace / Re: I will aggregate 'left over' virwox lindens for you on: November 11, 2011, 09:40:36 PM
Thanks avoid3d. I have some lindens, but I'll wait and see if I use VirWox again before sending them to you.  In any case, I'll keep this offer in mind.
