921  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: September 26, 2014, 12:36:05 AM
Does anyone is running SP10/30 machine with static IP configuration?

I am wondering if I am the only person with this problem .. I am asking these because I am having hard time with several datacenters ....of course you could add an equipment to do the DHCP but it will use 1u of space and that will increase the hosting costs.
You might be able to use a small nettop and configure it as a NAT/DHCP device and hang it in the side of the cabinet beside your SP30.

Yeah, I also use data centers meant for internet hosting and they give you a static IP block with a gateway IP address. This doesn't work well with Spondoolies and KnC default setups. However, I have space for a NAT/DHCP 1U device.
922  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Will Fatca ( Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act) make bitcoin go to millions per coin! on: September 25, 2014, 10:37:07 AM
I've had foreign brokerage accounts closed out on me last year due to FATCA reporting requirements. I had them for years primarily to gain access to Asian securities that for whatever reason were not approved by the SEC for trading by US investors. I've always self-reported activity related to those accounts on my tax returns so I have no issues with the IRS. For my purposes, the money that was in those accounts would not be going into Bitcoin as I already have enough BTC for my needs.
923  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S1 Upgrade Kit on: September 25, 2014, 01:01:51 AM
Has anyone ordered any of these in the past week? Do you know if they are still in stock?  Thanks in advance.
I had such fun time upgrading a couple of S1's that I tried to order more upgrade kits today seeing as I have a pile of unused S1's in my basement. Unfortunately it appears like they are no longer selling them.
924  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This address received 23000BTC yesterday. on: September 24, 2014, 08:55:06 AM
That address has got almost 10mil and also gets 0.0001 payments from Laxo, hope they spend it wisely.
Looks like a big company getting some finances in order, 1,000btc each transaction.
With the number of people monitoring that address, it is probably cheap advertising for Laxo.
925  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why btc will die on: September 24, 2014, 08:51:22 AM
..while gold is fundamentally NOT useful.

gold is a very good conductor of electricity.
And unlike copper it doesn't corrode, which is why it is used in electronic components.
926  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Our private life in a bitcoin dominated world! on: September 24, 2014, 08:35:47 AM
At the very least I think that most regular wallets should have advanced coin control features to give you the option of splitting your coins into segregated buckets that you can use for different aspects of your life. Each bucket would maintains its own set of addresses, including change addresses, that are isolated from the addresses in the other buckets. If you need to move coins across different buckets you would do so through a mixing service.
927  Economy / Speculation / Re: Midweek massacre coming? on: September 24, 2014, 07:01:56 AM
Thank you, noob. I'm very near to achieve my goal of 210 BTC. Keep on crying, wimp

Word of advice. Do not think of the number of BTC you have, consider the exchange rate and be flexible to go out and in. Please don't give me shit about this post because it is an advice, take it or leave it. I am not here for the drama.
Short term trading has few consistent winners. You have to be really good and the average trader without an edge will almost always lose in the long run (and on Bitcoin Talk some will even loose big time). Nothing wrong with taking the long term approach if you believe in the fundamentals that Bitcoin will be around and in use years from now.
928  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Different Kind of Coins on: September 23, 2014, 08:44:57 AM
The algorithm controlling number of coins created over time and the method of initial distribution is also key. As is whether the protocol is open or closed source.
929  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Greenpeace now accepting bitcoin donations on: September 23, 2014, 08:32:19 AM
Is it just me that really doesn't like greenpeace? Half of the money doesn't even go to valid causes. I'll donate 1 satoshi >Smiley.
As a child I've fantasized of scuba diving up to a Greenpeace ship under cover of darkness and planting a limpet mine.
930  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Finger print best thing to prevent hacking? on: September 21, 2014, 01:42:19 PM
Well i was thinking almost every laptop has this feature. Why not enable a system which use finger print to send payments this will eliminate the hacking. Iphone too has finger print so this can be applied if done properly what do you think guys?

Ok, how am I'm out of the loop - almost every laptop takes fingerprints now? (Sorry I haven't used Windows in years.)
No, not every laptop has a reader, but Windows now has built in Biometrics support based on standard driver models.
931  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The single flaw in bitcoin on: September 21, 2014, 06:15:33 AM
Why would people trust these few operators to run the network, instead of for example big banks who issue their own "Bankcoin" on the bank's own servers?
And why would I trust the big Bank and their servers?
932  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's about time to turn off PoW mining on: September 21, 2014, 06:02:25 AM

the only thing holding bitcoin up as top dog right now and for probably a good while longer is its immense network effect which it has from a very long 4-5 year lead on all alts.. whether you like it not, bitcoin will fall just like bebo. and whether you like it or not, a technically more advanced and far more innovate platform is going to pick up where bitcoin left off and take over the globe in a blaze of glory like no other tech has seen before, and its going to be spectacular.

ps.. vested interests are a BITCH Wink Grin
Innovation is great, but on the other hand you also need stability and backwards compatibility if you want the platform to succeed in the long run. If every few years a new coin takes over the world in a manner that devalues the vested interests in the previous coin then people would pretty much consider cryptocurrencies as flash-in-the-pan bullshit, only good for short term speculation at most.

Of course, nobody really can control what happens. For me personally, the key feature that I am looking for is inflation-protected long term store of wealth. If the cryptocurrency scene becomes too dynamic such that it is unable to offer me this then I will pretty much leave, as would many others.

As for switching to PoS, that would definitely be destabilizing to Bitcoin and you will risk alienating some of the current userbase. It would certainly move the flow of wealth away from the hardware manufacturers and utility companies, but it may not have the desired effect on BTC price that the OP is hoping for.
933  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: was there this much Fud about the internet? on: September 20, 2014, 02:49:57 PM
The internet has gone through both periods of hype and FUD. For example, I remember when Google IPO'd 10 years ago I bought some shares and everyone just laughed at me saying "they are just a search engine".
934  Economy / Speculation / Re: Let's face it, it's done. So how much money do you predict you will lose? on: September 20, 2014, 04:31:04 AM
I think I will loseloose everything.
935  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Second Rise of FGPAs? on: September 20, 2014, 12:06:49 AM
We as the Zeta Mining team will actually prove that FGPA based mining hardwares may be capable of competing with the latest ASIC miners. Follow us!
How much do one of these XCVU440's go for and what hash rate do you think you can extract from it?

Edit: It looks like the chip might go for $15,000 each. You'd better be able to do 30 TH/s to beat the current $0.5/GH/s price point. Lol!
936  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pirate@40 fined $40 million dollars on: September 19, 2014, 11:41:06 PM
I don't think the victims will see a penny

That depends, does the court appoint a receivership yet?If it has , chances are  the victims can get some of their monies back if they file claims. In the ASD ponzi case , all the victim that filed claim with the receivership got back 100% of their money back And the Zeek reward receivership is set up to give favourable returns to the victims( judging by the clawback infos).
Well many BCST investors went indirectly through passthroughs because they were getting better rates at up to 7% a week. The problem is that many of the passthrough operators were anonymous and are now long gone. I just don't see how these investors could ever make a claim and get something back as Pirate does not have their individual records.
937  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can governments prevent a cryptocurrency wallet from syncing with the network on: September 19, 2014, 11:22:24 AM
so why would it not be better for the developers or the really rich coin holders or even a sponsor try to create a network that can stay on free from govenment intervention to allow blockchain downloads.
There are already bitcoind nodes running as Tor hidden services.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Fallback_Nodes

The list is a couple of months old and most of the nodes are down, I think because frankly not many people really need them at this time. I have a node accessible through Tor running in a different country from where I live, but that is for personal use. I may publish it when shit hits the fan, and I am sure many other people with hidden nodes would too.

Quite a number of gleeful people crawling out from under the rocks lately.  Grin
939  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: PSU warrenty for bitcoinminers on: September 18, 2014, 11:29:56 AM
ok guys thanks for the help,

so almost everyone who uses atx powersupply's on any kind of miner is voiding his warrenty?
or can some brands be used for this?
and what would be the way to go, some kind of offical switch?

This has happened to me before with Seasonic and rather than open a can of worms by trying to explain what a mining rig is, I simply told them that the PSU was powering a high-end home made gaming rig with 2 monster nVidia GPUs. It was replaced with some comment to make sure to not use PCI-e splitters.

Hmmm ... actually I've had 3 Seasonics melted out on me and never any other brands. I only bothered to RMA one of them.
940  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Roger Ver launches fund to catch thieves and hackers! on: September 18, 2014, 01:15:15 AM
I disagree.

Everyone can truly point out anyone, but guys who collect the mail will surely not just accept any report whatsoever. All the people that have had bounty put on them by the bountyhunter page have surely earned that.

A lot of "surely" there  Roll Eyes

You have any better ideas on how to get these scumbags, seeing as law enforcement is usually unmotivated and of little help?
