921  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DCA'ing isnt a bad strategy on: September 08, 2023, 04:55:45 PM
Dollar-cost averaging was never a "bad" strategy. It's just that people frequently foil their plans when it's the case that the price moves greatly in a certain direction(panic sell or not following the scheduled buys when price drops, or not following the scheduled buys when price increases).

And ultimately, DCAing is a sort of 'boring' strategy, so people tend to get restless.
922  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [WARNING] Infamous Chisel (malware) steals crypto wallets data! on: September 08, 2023, 06:55:47 AM
Well, another reason to avoid mobile crypto wallets. Crypto traders rush to buy Apple smartphones. Smiley After all, they were not struck by this infection, right.

Modern laptops (netbooks) are compact in size, which allows to work with cryptocurrencies almost anywhere in the world and allow to build a safe line of defense on device. Why use mobile phones to interact with cryptocurrencies when doing so is risky? I also think it's reckless.

Simply because of convenience. Mobile wallets aren't necessarily bad despite the risks in the first place. Like, why use your physical pocket wallet knowing that you can risk losing it? Exactly, you use your mobile wallet for smaller amounts of funds so it's easily accessible when on-the-go; if you're fortunate enough to be in a country with bitcoin/crypto-supported payments.
923  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Preparations for BTC Halving and bull market on: September 08, 2023, 04:54:59 AM
A lot of times, the markets move in ways we least expect it. Due to a good amount of people that are betting on the halving specifically, I think it probably won't move the way these people are expecting it to.

Either we dump hard, maybe we do a sideways chop, maybe we pump then just end up retracing. Just my guess though.
924  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Opinion Piece. Please share your Opinion on Crypto trading Questions on: September 08, 2023, 01:03:51 AM
1. A person that trades crypto?

2. Other cryptocurrencies, and stocks.

3. Nothing specific. But I trade based on narratives and based on protocol metrics.

4. Exclusively fundamental analysis. Though when I want to buy a coin and it just keeps on dropping, I wait for a small bounce before pouncing in. That's pretty much the only price chart thing I do.

5. DEX aggregators: 1inch, Matcha, etc.

6. Pretty much OTC is the only way to trade without a CEX/DEX/P2P? But no I haven't used OTC.
925  Other / Meta / Re: How can Bitcointalk evolve to adapt to a post 2023 (ChatGPT, etc) internet? on: September 08, 2023, 12:27:37 AM
Will there actually be a time that you will login the forum and understand that the whole forum is taken over by bots chatting and discussing with one another. No emotions and no considerations. It doesn’t matter if the conversations are connected or not, but then there is steady activity going on in the forum. If it gets to this stage what then will happen? Because the purpose of this forum would automatically be defeated.
It's like asking what will happen to Facebook/Twitter if it was just taken over by bots. Why would businesses/companies invest in ads in these platforms if it was all bots?

I think there is a long road for ChatGPT to be a risk for Bitcointalk. Even though it can be expert in generating content. It's still lacks human creativity. It only says what it's trained to say. As a newbie we may not be able to separate which is Ai made & which is Man made. But an old active member will instantly detect that it has been made using AI. I think no matter how much natural they try to make ChatGPT it will always have that artificial touch. As long as there is a human touch there will always be a chance to have human error. Take me for example, I think I made several grammar mistake in this reply. But ChatGPT won't. Maybe in the long long future, but there is no way ChatGPT can replace us now.
Pretty much. ChatGPT being able to blend in to a community such as Bitcointalk is going to take a good amount of time. Or at least I hope, as we might be underestimating how quick ChatGPT can 'learn'.
926  Economy / Speculation / Re: How do you suggest I handle incorrect price predictions? on: September 07, 2023, 11:08:22 PM
Maybe I should stop quarterly prediction and stick with monthly predictions.
That's going to be totally up to you. Not sure why you're too personally affected knowing that predicting prices is very difficult especially in shorter timespans.

Also how do you suggest I handle incorrect price predictions? Anybody been here. How do you handle it?
Like an adult? Take a look on why you're wrong and why the strategy/indicator you used is wrong; and how you can improve it for future "predictions".
927  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When are we going to see the mempool empty again and 1sat/b confirmations? on: September 07, 2023, 06:16:32 PM
For us to see those low levels of fees, we're going to need a combination of a deeper deeper more-depressing slow bear market, and a death of Bitcoin ordinals. I think it's a bit unlikely for us to reach that levels of market-"deadness", but it's definitely not outside the realm of possibility. What we only need is a longer 2020 version of market sentiment.
928  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Unfortunately, this problem is increasing yearly on: September 07, 2023, 05:50:31 PM
A lot of these problems would've been mitigated if only people used one-time codes from authenticator apps like Google Authenticator and Aegis; but unfortunately SMS 2FA is still the most user-friendly option out there. And again unfortunately, not every service supports one-time code 2FA — understandably so because of SMS-fa being far easier customer support-wise.
929  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jakarta is in a pollution emergency, Is it caused by crypto mining? on: September 07, 2023, 04:39:48 AM
If we're talking about pollution, there are LOTS of things to worry about than bitcoin/cryptocurrency mining. Yes, bitcoin/cryptocurrency mining does use energy, but so does your computer, your car, your home heater or air conditioner, the list goes on and on.

Even Christmas lights are provenly using more energy than crypto mining if I remember correctly.
930  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Alteration of bitcoin 21M cap: Is it possible, necessary or needless? on: September 07, 2023, 03:31:07 AM
The 21 million maximum supply cap is one of Bitcoin's biggest strengths — the fact that no one can print more than that limit. Removing the supply cap goes against one of Bitcoin's strengths so I totally doubt the masses would support this in the first place even if some people are for it.

Also, screw Bitcoin dot com.
931  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't look for investment, just hodle! on: September 06, 2023, 04:19:30 PM
there is no doubt that DCA approach is good but then also if a newbie os not careful you could lose along the line of DCA so DCA is out of this discussion

How do you even lose money "if not careful"? If you literally just buy weekly/monthly what's the room for error here? Not buying even when you're already scheduled to(due to DCA)? If so, then the risks are the same even with lump sum. If the person doesn't follow his/her sound strategy, then mistakes will be made.
932  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: HALVING IS GOING TO CAUSE A GENERAL EFFECT ON ALL IN THE ECOSYSTEM. on: September 06, 2023, 04:08:15 AM
What possible backlash? All of the miners(or at least those with half a brain) are already aware of the past and future halving events. It's not as if block halvings are something that's sudden and unexpected.

Now, the question is: will it cause us to have more miners(due to potential increase in price) or less miners(some miners being less profitable due to halving of rewards). Time will tell.
933  Other / Meta / Re: How can Bitcointalk evolve to adapt to a post 2023 (ChatGPT, etc) internet? on: September 06, 2023, 01:19:54 AM
It's honestly too early for ChatGPT to be a 'risk' for Bitcointalk. Sure, it affects Bitcointalk negatively in a way because it's very annoying, but it's not like Bitcointalk is going to be ran by ChatGPT or something. If someone uses ChatGPT to make a topic or post a reply on Bitcointalk, it's really very very obvious lol. They think they're so slick because of them using ChatGPT but there is a very clear distinction between a ChatGPT-generated post and a casual internet person.
934  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin and get rich quick syndrome on: September 06, 2023, 12:58:05 AM
Unlike fiat which the amount in your bank account remains what it is, bitcoin in your wallet will constantly fluctuate, meaning that there is chances that you can gain or lose your bitcoin.

Contrary to popular belief, even your local currency in your bank account fluctuates a lot, especially versus 'stronger' currencies like the USD. Also depending on what your local currency is, sometimes it can even perform far worse than bitcoin in bad circumstances. Perfect example being the Venezuelan Bolivar.
935  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Share Your Bitcoin Hack Stories: Help Us Educate and Protect! on: September 05, 2023, 05:28:30 PM
So why use such drastic measures? Smiley

Maybe OP wants to hear these stories first hand. Smiley

Not everyone shares stories of bicoin hacking in online communities. Most often, because people are ashamed to tell such stories. All the same, this is in a sense a fail, most often made by mistake of the bitcoin user himself. We (people) always willingly share success stories, but we try to keep silent about failure stories.

For example, I know one such story that happened to a friend of a friend of mine and therefore not all the details are known to me. All in all, he lost several hundred dollars. After the incident, he immediately changed the laptop to an old old laptop, with the hope that this device is so old and has not been used since the Internet was clean and safe. Smiley In this way, he wanted to avoid modern viruses, which may not be on such an old device. I don't know if it helped him in the end.

If anything, I told this in confidence and the hero of my little story didn't agree that these events were reflected in OP's article.Smiley

What do you mean? Drastic measures lol? The links you can get using my provided Google search queries are literally first hand stories of people having their bitcoin/crypto getting hacked lmao. I just pretty much linked to older threads/topics where OP can grab some stories for the articles he/she is working on.
936  Other / Meta / Re: Any Admin Can Change It? on: September 05, 2023, 04:50:45 PM
If you want to request a name change, you need to have a valid reason for it to be changed. Assuming you stated your reason to Theymos via PM and you didn't get a response, chances are, it's a no. I don't think you just wanting to have that different username is a "valid" enough of a reason — same with dozens and dozens of namechange requests.
937  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto or Real estate on: September 05, 2023, 04:38:57 PM
Personally, crypto simply before I am of a young age and I'm not ready to go a bit more 'safe' yet. But someday, of course I will need to allocate a good chunk of my portfolio into real estate to secure myself a bit. It doesn't make any sense for 90% of people to be all in on crypto if he/she already has a family to feed.
938  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is KYC mandatory in CEX? on: September 05, 2023, 12:38:17 PM
To summarize it: most countries' governments require these financial services platforms(exchanges in this case) to demand for AML/KYC — supposedly to have a record of the users to have a trace if ever a scammer/hacker deposits funds to the platform; and if these platforms don't comply, the government shuts them down.
939  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Share Your Bitcoin Hack Stories: Help Us Educate and Protect! on: September 05, 2023, 05:06:19 AM
Here's the trick, just search Google using this search queries:

site:bitcointalk.org i got hacked
site:bitcointalk.org my bitcoin got stolen
site:reddit.com my bitcoin got stolen
site:reddit.com my crypto got stolen

Those alone should give you ample amounts of content to write about.
940  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Stake.com Hot wallet robbed for 16Million + usd on: September 04, 2023, 03:19:12 PM
Unless this is confirmed to be an actual hacking and NOT just them moving wallets to a different cold wallet, then we shouldn't be quick to jump conclusions. Exchanges have done this in the past.

If it's true though, then goddamn. Money lost is not that big compared to other hacks, but Stake.com is a platform that's not necessarily catering to crypto peeps.
