My brother is a real estate broker doing this very same thing (except for using BTC, of course) and I can tell you it isn't as easy as it seems. He had one renter who stopped paying rent and it took him months to fulfill all the requirements necessary to kick the guy out. Meanwhile, he was living there for free and my brother was still making mortgage payments with no income from that property. Don't get me wrong, it can be profitable, but to stack the odds in your favor, you need: - A trustworthy and competent property manager. (My brother does this himself, saving that particular expense.)
- Properties you can visit yourself. Even with a good property manager, it pays to be on hand when the inspector goes by, when repairs are being done, before and after renters move in, etc.
- As much knowledge as possible about the neighborhood you're investing in. What's the crime rate like? What businesses are in the area? Schools? Any major developments planned in the area?
Those are just what I've gathered from listening to my brother over the years. I'll talk to him and see what else he recommends.

Cruise ships are nice but they require a lot of manpower to run. After doing a cursory internet search, it looks like one would need a minimum of a Captain, Staff Captain, Chief / First Officer, Chief Radio Officer, Security Officer, Deckhand, Able Seaman, Safety Officer, Bosun / First Mate, Chief Engineer, Chief Electrician, Electrician, Motorman, and a Plumber.
Not to mention all the kitchen, housekeeping, and general maintenance staff. Who would pay their salaries?
Weather is also something to be considered. At least during a bad storm, no one has to worry about an island sinking.
No, I agree that an island would be the way to go but I also feel GLBSE is the way to finance it. That way Nefario can verify the identities of those in charge and it would be easier to pay back investors if it didn't work out. If someone draws up a sound business plan and shareholders are able to vote on developments and will own a proportionate piece of the project, I'd seriously consider investing.
Wirtland and Atlantium were interesting experiments in virtual countries, but they obviously don't have enough active citizens to make much headway in establishing a global presence. I'm pretty sure that if a handful of bitcoin community members put forth a serious effort at creating a new micronation with a bitcoin based economy, it could easily rival any existing example in a matter of days.
On the other hand, it might not be such a bad thing that this island is under Nicaraguan jurisdiction - maintaining a diplomatic relationship with one government is easier than fighting them all.

The amount displayed is rounded off to 2 decimal places. I believe the amount in the pot is actually closer to 0.198.

I'm sorry, I don't usually indulge in schadenfreude, but I am imagining you with red and tearing eyes, slouching through your front door, fumbling, stumbling, and mumbling to yourself, "...and I can't even rest yet because I got to see what new disaster's going on at the rackin', frackin' bitcointalk forum..."

I still think a rooftop is the best location. Squirrels don't often climb buildings and from what I've seen, crows are pretty good at discouraging other birds away from a food source. Even if there are power lines or some other easy access for squirrels, a fence made of the proper materials would probably keep them out.

There wasn't anything really "classified" about it so they probably aren't too concerned. The impression I got was if they found the person responsible the reprimand might go something like: "Hey, don't do that again, okay?"

http://www.bigthink.com/future-crimes/automated-crime-scripting-blackmailIncreasingly innovative computer scripts are being created that automate entire criminal processes—processes that, in the past, used to require human intervention. Don’t like your boss? Threaten to tell his wife about the affair with his secretary unless he pays you to keep quiet. The problem was that your boss knew it was you who was blackmailing him, opening the blackmailer to potential negative consequences. Now, however, thanks to the miracle of technology, no need for a human being to become involved in such a dirty and murky affairs. The entire process can be scripted and automated. Surprisingly, no mention of Bitcoin in the article.

I do not know yet, I'm a little confused. You tell me about it > Quote from bitcoinduit.com/help: "#3 If you guess incorrectly, but you are the last one in when the game expires, you win the jackpot." --> I was the last one in, so I thought Again, the site did not process your bitcoin properly so what you sent was not counted as a deposit toward the game. I'm sorry but I don't know how to be any clearer than that. ***CLIP*** There are several things you seem to be overlooking: - The 0.5 BTC you sent did not make it to the Round so was not counted as a "deposit" in the game.
- How do you know you were the only person to send bitcoin to that Round only to have it disappear? Someone else may have also tried to deposit after you, which, according to your logic, would make them the rightful winner.
Correctly. As I said before, I do not want your money. Still, at the moment, I am the only person who can prove a deposit between 1kTt7jVHZ614g44LEjS1HtxHYpzE96Lkk deposit / round end http://www.blockchain.info/address/115zjX3F5wFwB2jJEPSWdaz9M5PAgDRRNyThe jackpot for Round *No1*MEGAMASSIVE_POT has already been won and paid out. I'm sorry that the site provided you with an invalid payment address for your deposit but the fact of the matter is, you did not win this game.

Yeah, it's one of those unknown variables. At first I was a little upset that I lost some money in one of the games, but then, as pointed out, perhaps the game ending abruptly might have saved me money since I was debating sending another coin into the fray in hopes of keeping the game open. Such is life. I do not want my money back. The point is that I do not understand. If the site says "round is open, the round ends after one-two-three hours". Now, I make a deposit. Deposit does not appear anywhere ever. [except in the site owner's wallet] Then the round ends [without my deposit]. I lose my money, of course. However, I am the last who deposited before the round ends! Well, fair play, eh...? Someone else might say to such a scam... Not me, because I am a nice person You just had the bad luck of sending a deposit while the site wasn't working properly but before we noticed it. You attempted to make a deposit but the site ate it instead, which we take full responsibility for. As I mentioned, I'll be glad to refund you the 0.5 BTC. There are several things you seem to be overlooking:

Your site [bitcoinduit.com] is broken and it ate my coins + MY jackpot txid: 21f309af6ed069855cb5ff69759d93475bb72661bbbdf408ce757fb6193cd657 Was that for the Round Thursday Game 2? Because it looks like you did, in fact, win that one after all. Edit: Forgot to mention the site is back! No, it was not the round Thursday Game 2. It was the round *No1*MEGAMASSIVE_POT. ...And I made my deposit 0.5BTC to your address 115zjX3F5wFwB2jJEPSWdaz9M5PAgDRRNy [2012-05-12 09:24:59 UTC] >in time of more than one hour before the round ends. http://www.blockchain.info/address/115zjX3F5wFwB2jJEPSWdaz9M5PAgDRRNy...And my payout address was 11A4kzh156qP2jXmGt94UEcob6ogk7cCh But howewer, I did not win anything. At one point early yesterday (my time), the Bitcoinduit alerter died and deposits were not going toward the proper destination. One of my partners took the site offline until the matter could be addressed so that more players would not send their deposits into a black hole, as yours was. I've already refunded two other deposits that didn't make it to the Round they were aimed at and will happily refund your 0.5 BTC to the address of your choosing, as well. During the time the site was inaccessible, some Rounds expired. The last player to make a successful deposit to each expired Round won the jackpot for that Round. The owner of 1kTt7jVHZ614g44LEjS1HtxHYpzE96Lkk has been very active at Bitcoinduit, so it should come as no surprise that that person won some of the Rounds that expired while no one else was able to make a deposit. As far as I am aware, no one at Bitcoinduit either knows or cares where that player gets his/her BTC from. I also think, and I assume that your server has been compromised. What do you think?
We have no reason to believe our server has been compromised. No coins have been stolen. The only thing that happened was that some deposits did not make it to the Rounds they were meant for and, consequently, some Rounds ended in a manner that was not intended. This was a glitch and it has been addressed. So I lost [at least] my 9.82+ BTC jackpot, and my interest in this matter due to the fact that I created the round *No1*MEGAMASSIVE_POT What you lost was your deposit of 0.5 BTC and your chance at winning the 9.82 BTC jackpot, as did everyone else who might have made a deposit while the site was offline. Just because you might have created that Round does not guarantee that you would have won its jackpot. You are mistaken to assume that you would have won if the game had continued uninterrupted. It is just as likely that you might have sunk more money into it and still lost. This glitch may have saved you money. Well, finally, my simple question is: What are you going to do about this? I will gladly refund your deposit of 0.5 BTC to the bitcoin address of your choosing.
