It seems clear to me that BTC will hit the big(ger) time and relatively soon. But some folks (who do seem to have a good understanding of it) hold the exact opposite opinion. Am I buying into the hype? Besides regulation (which I don't think will end up being a problem in the Land of Innovation and many other countries), how else could BTC go wrong and turn out to be the fad some say it is.

If I may play devil's advocate for a moment.... Why should anyone besides criminals care about a non-transparent blockchain? I can imagine that a big holder wouldn't want their big holdings potentially traced back to them whenever they send coins. Any other (practical, non-philosophical) reason? Still think the coin emission is going to hurt more than most people think - but while it's low it's possible to accumulate. IF this turns out to be a legitimate altcoin with litecoin market cap then you're looking at $20 per coin. I don't think it's going to happen overnight but I give it a 1 in 3 chance of happening eventually if someone else doesn't blow the anon PoW market away with a completely new coin.
What coin emission issue is this?

Nice post. It's mostly about monero, because monero is the only alt we've found that is a serious contender for the major liquidity provider niche available after bitcoin takes the transparent liquidity niche.
Other niches besides dark and transparent liquidity are smaller and less clear. There is more interest in the clearer and larger niches. XCP, for example, is interesting on many grounds, but it really has no niche at all. There's nothing preventing total dilution of value for holders. That's okay, as it does not harm XCP's functionality, but it does make it less interesting as a long-term investment. Why is XCP subject to total dillution of value for holders? I suspect most of the thread participants are primarily interested in long-term investments with order-of-magnitude upsides. Finding other alts which can creditably claim to be contenders for such a role is....challenging. I encourage you to try, and to report your findings. (It will be in your interest, I assume, to inform hoi polloi, at some point, when your accumulation bounds have been approached.)
Are there any others you like?

Is there an ETA for Zerocash?
Is Monero development stalled? I last checked in here quite a while ago and we were pining for an official GUI back then same as now.

Are there any serious contenders for decentralized anonymous transactions besides the other Cryptonotes?

I think I was the biggest loser during the big theft and I haven't check in in quite some time. How is it going with Qora now? Why is the price struggling so much? Is the thief dumping?

Still down here. This is definitely a DNS propagation issue. I'm sure it will be OK soon.

Oddball. Maybe a propagation issue.

It seems to be a DNS problem but every other site works.

Besides noashh, I don't think we're talking about the same thing. Do you guys know about the new offerings that are available exclusively on the NXT/XCP/MSC decentralized asset exchanges? That is the next big thing in crypto.
|
|
|
This is where I need some clarification. I guess there are two types of assets on the NXT/XCP/MSC exchanges. There are crowdsales which then turn into their own coins like MAID, and then there are assets like NXT's sharkfund0 which won't be spun off into a separate coin? The high-profile ones like those I listed above seem to be crowdsales which will be spun off.

Why the big price increase in XMR lately? Was a new client released?
people are finding about it Fair enough. May I ask the status of the GUI client?
|
|

I buy and hold Bitcoin and good altcoins (NXT, XCP, XMR, etc). Should I start buying crypto "assets" (is there a better word?) like MAID (MSC), SWARM (XCP), and APICoin (MSC)? I think the only big one we've seen hit the market so far was MAID which I think came way down in price afterward (but I could be wrong about that).
Are these the next cool crypto investment?

1. New source.
2. New POS aglorithm. "The algorithm will allow accounts to start generating blocks after only 10 confirmations. Each account will also know at exactly which point they will generate the next block."
3. Most useful desktop client ever. Among 2nd gen coins.
4. Alisases trading platform.
5. Dev is working on anonymous transactions.
6. Voting system will be implemented by the end of the week.
Answering your first question: "Can anyone explain to me concisely why Qora will be better than Nxt?", nobody states that Qora will necessarily be better than Nxt. From what we have now I can say that it's an original cryptocurrency with unique source. The dev is one of those geniuses that push the crypto world forward. All of that together means that Qora is not one of those weird coins like eMunie or Nem or Nxtl. It's something big and the future will show how big it is.
Thank you for your thoughtful response. The dev has shown himself to be a genius through his work on Qora thus far or does he have other credentials? I have heard the rumor that he is in fact BCNxt. Is that still just a rumor?
