981  Economy / Speculation / Re: The $GBTC Wall Observer on: May 08, 2015, 06:18:16 PM
From company information:
Quote
Each BIT share represented ownership of 0.1 bitcoins initially. The trust will not generate any income and regularly sells/distributes bitcoins to pay for its ongoing expenses. Therefore, the amount of bitcoin represented by each share gradually declines over time.

BTC/USD = $243
BIT/USD = $530

Nice markup! They say it's easier to move money once it's in the system. I'm curious if that's the case and people don't care the 110% premium or they are just un-informed investors?

I can give you a use case - in retirement accounts most people can only buy official stocks. So if you expect BTC to go to $50,000, you don't care if you get it at $250 or $500, if your retirement account is such that profits are not taxed, you are still better off paying double in the long run.

this is not so.
$500 buys you 2.03BTC, and same $$ buy 10 GBTC= ~1BTC.
You to have tax rates in excess of 50% in order to make buying GBTC justified mathematically.
However, two prices seem to move to converge. When GBTC was $65 and bitcoin 234, it made more sense to sell GBTC and buy bitcoin.
I think that GBTC and bitcoin prices will converge at some point.

The question is whether bitcoin moves upwards rapidly towards GBTC (not that likely IMO) or whether they both converge which coincides with bitcoin breaking out of its downtrend.

Long interest down to 25.2 million. Shorts down to 25k. Lots more shorts to cover as we approach 260.
983  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 08, 2015, 05:33:00 PM
Don't quote please LFC!!

The falling exponential trend line is in the 290's now..if we take 300 in the coming weeks then we break out IMO.
984  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 08, 2015, 04:58:39 PM
NLC believing his own rubbish and caught short! Lol
985  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 08, 2015, 04:01:55 PM
Boom!
986  Economy / Speculation / Re: wot if on: May 08, 2015, 03:23:17 PM
Nothing will happen. If anything it will crash more.
the 2016 halving is already calculated into the speculative price at this point. In 2016 people will get scared if the price doesn't go to the moon as they hoped. So they panic sell, more people panic sell. Fine, we all know how this story ends, we all watched Titanic.

Another troll on my never-ending ignore list, good job bro it wil have consequences for you.

You know what it's called when everyone around you has moved on and tries to explain why it didn't work, when more and more people in your environment apparently seem to have become trolls..?
Yes,  it's cognitive dissonance.

Sure there are many trolls around,  but also many smart people with a realistic view of why and how bitcoin has failed as an experiment. We can only learn from that and develop based on our mistakes. No need to get hostile.

No one is getting hostile. You make many doomer predictions that never come true.

You just aren't very convincing as a real person I'm afraid, so the entire forum either ignores you or has you marked out as a bad troll. At least Proudhon was amusing.
987  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 08, 2015, 03:14:39 PM
I'm guessing we make a run on 240 soon..
988  Economy / Speculation / Re: BitCoin @ 285$ on May 27th on: May 08, 2015, 03:04:27 PM
Activity: 1

Sounds legit and trustworthy. All buy bitcoin!

You prove conclusively with your posting history that high activity is meaningless.

How is that latest dead cat bounce prediction going?
989  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 08, 2015, 01:32:13 PM
Just wait for 5000 btc to trade at 350
990  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: May 08, 2015, 11:02:07 AM
I don't know enough about the block size limits really but is increasing it just kicking the can down the road. Can we just keep doing that? A bit like how USA used to keep increasing the debt ceiling

Increasing block size limits is not solution. It is "brute force" ... we are only buying time.  1B people will require 4 GB block size limit.

Buying time allows alternate solutions to be properly reviewed and tested. Downtime and network issues are not conducive to the adoption wave we know is coming with the next price hump.
991  Economy / Speculation / Re: Automated posting on: May 08, 2015, 10:37:31 AM

Without trolls the essence comes back to light, no 200 post/day needed.

With a falling price my WO pages have 15-18 ignores and with a rising only 1 or 2 :-)

I am sure you could make a simple algorithm based on that..whether it would follow or lead the price would be interesting
992  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 08, 2015, 10:30:43 AM
calm before the strom?  Huh

thats what i hope   Undecided

Folks have been saying that on and off for months followed by falls and more boredom. It's the calm before the lull. Hard to tell them apart though.

Sounds like the end of a bear market to me. Total boredom - but the price stops falling. We are in the accumulation zone.

Things will get exciting soon enough.

$ 2 4 0 COMING UP

Ain't nothing wrong with dreaming. When things are this hopeless, what else is there?
Somehow newbies are always eager to write such statements. Almost every single "bitcoin is dead" post on this forum comes from a new account.

The chances of it being a newbie are slim in the extreme. It's the same old psycho dullard droning away. It is such a dead cert I pretty much auto ignore any newbie in this section without bothering to read. Sorry real newbies.
I kinda get a kick out of how many sox are opened and am mesmerized by the sheer derangement it must take to be such a rabid troll of any forum out there. I've been on certain forums for many years and I've never seen one like this. Can anyone comprehend what this person's life looks like in years to come...

Dude, I've been posting on Forums for well over a decade and never been to one having sprout a literal cult. The worst thing was one where one of it's admins died, and that was nothing compared to the gospel of "So a man took a shit."

I actually lolled at that.. Grin

They are often normal people apparently. Hard to believe though!

They are all from the same person. A banned troll who is so attention starved they have to use newbie accounts to get air time.

Just click ignore and move along. They will be deleted by the mods anyway. Oh and don't quote please.

 Grin

Meanwhile observing the walls it seems the bears have woken up and asks and bids are roughly equivalent. Shorts are still over 30k even after the price rising 8 dollars, so it seems there are lots of underwater shorts which must either close or there will be another large dump attempt to shake out the bulls again.

But it feels bullish now to me.
996  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 07, 2015, 07:01:00 PM
Have we just witnessed the shakeout before the bull recommences?  Shocked
997  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 07, 2015, 06:55:06 PM
Nice to see a little buy there Smiley
998  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 07, 2015, 05:44:45 PM
Looks like we may be picking up some steam. Any predictions on the price level needed for a lot of the shorts to close?

Who knows where the price goes..but if we approach 244 then that should take care of a fair number.

Well that was an unexpected email.... I'm small fry too and haven't traded much during this sideways run.
Possibly this is encouragement !

Has anyone else seen this ?
I checked the last few pages here and I don't think this has been posted yet.

Interesting. They are obviously trying to generate volume. The orderbook is very thin at the moment.
