981  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Do we have any idea if POS is likely to take over POW? Or does it completely... on: May 14, 2017, 05:43:14 PM
I highly doubt PoW will overtake PoS. They're very different and we're rushing towards cheap renewable energy.

PoW is objectively the best initial distribution model of a coin. And if it's using a CPU or GPU algo (and not ASIC) it's the fairest.

PoS can't be used for initial distribution; you have to have coins to stake more so you have to either use a PoW period or sell coins (ICO).

But even after a decent initial coin distribution (PoW period) a switch to being a PoS only coin is bad in the sense that it incentivizes people to hoard the coin. It's a rich gets richer scheme.
982  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PIVX on: May 12, 2017, 09:18:29 PM
Good afternoon all,
I would like to buy and hold PIVX, and as per my understanding it can be bought through bittrex which also trades, and the best way will be to store them in a PIVX wallet. I'm wondering if there is any way to buy and hold but without having to put them in a wallet and have them stored in a site like Poloniex, Kraken, etc.? Thank you!

Bittrex is the same as Poloniex and Kraken. You can buy and hold there.

I would not hold big amounts on any exchange though, especially for long periods of time.

And you'd be missing out on staking.

Depending on the size of the purchase, I'd consider getting an old, dirt cheap laptop, format it, install an OS, firewall, antivirus, etc. and stake my coins there with the added benefit of the battery acting like a UPS for non-stop staking.
983  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SweepstakeCoin (SWEEP) - PoW/PoS, JHA, TOR, Sweepstake with True Random on: May 11, 2017, 12:19:17 AM
great coin... am I the only one to notice that sweepstake approaches 1 million coins? Grin
Now at 985132 to be precise.

Not that exciting considering the dev has 100 times more.

A fix percentage premine this size in 2017 is not acceptable. The premine should slowly automatically go to the dev over time, for example 3% of all sweepstakes.

Anyway, if someone seens some opportunity in this coin I have 1 mil for sale (no sweepstake).
984  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN]XTRADE | XTRD | X11 | Masternode | Privatesend on: May 10, 2017, 06:29:33 PM
This is why the xtrade difficulty will remain very small for 3 days and then it will increase every 3 days.

Staying a 100% authentic copy paste Dash clone I see.

A few days of flashmining is a feature, not a bug.
985  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 200 amp main breaker tripping on: May 10, 2017, 01:20:37 PM
Dude,

Stop acting retarded.

The other posters were too diplomatic. You can ONLY run 160 amps continuously off a 200A breaker. This is directly from the NEC, the national electrical code.

It's even worse.

1)  The resistivity of copper increases with temperature. This results in a further voltage drop and more wire heating. Depending on the type of wire installed there is a max wire temp.

2) Did it ever occur to you the insurance liability risk you are taking? Most utilities have a documented record of power use. If there was an electrical fire, you could be on record as exceeding the safety limits. Insurance company refuses to pay.

3) Did you get buyin from any other household occupants to run a fire hazard?

no need to be rude , I didnt know about the insurance thing thats good to know, im on 240v so i should be able to run 38000 or so watts and by my calcs im closer to 34000, from the other comments though i suspect i am seeing wattage spikes due to the high ambient temps by appliances or rigs.  Im working on moving some rigs to my garage when they add a new meter.  seems that 5000g eth hash should be the safer max capacity for a home 200amp install
maybe even 4000

Did you actually check the voltage?

I would be surprised if you'd get 240 volts when all the rigs are running. And since I(A) = P(W) / V(V), with lower voltage you'll trip with fewer rigs.
986  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Monero(XMR) GPU better than CPU mining on: May 08, 2017, 08:16:46 PM
This is interesting: With Monero a I7 4790 runs at 300 H/S using 90W power.  My RX480 runs at 730 H/S using 110W. The RX cards use half the power than CPU. I really did not expect this to be the case.

CPUs have like 4-16 powerful cores while GPUs have something like 2000-3000 cores - typically speaking.

Now imagine each CPU core being like a super strong and heavy fighter and each GPU core being a small but nimble kid.

If you're still following, hashing algorithms are like picking up berries from the ground; thousands of kids are much better at it than a few strong dudes...

WTS up to 380k SWEEP (no sweepstake win, just regular blocks), PM.

Sweepstake is under PoW, it's a reward to those to mine. It does not encourage big pool, solo mining and pool mining get the same chance, of course the more hash power, the more chance you get (which is normal).

But it does as it reduces the risk and variance which is the main reason pools exist in the first place.
988  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SweepstakeCoin (SWEEP) - PoW/PoS, JHA, TOR, Sweepstake with True Random on: May 08, 2017, 03:46:16 PM
Can i still win the sweepstake if i am mining @ suprnova only...? if Yes how can i win?

I think this would mean that the reward would be split between all miners on the pool, right?

I would think so since the sweepstake reward seem to comes from PoW blocks, not from staking - even though it's called sweepstake.

So it kind of defeats the purpose and encourage pool mining on the biggest pool instead of solomining.

Unless it comes from PoS blocks, in which case the OP is not obvious.
989  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Joincoin (J) ToR Anonymous All Algorithm mining! *1.3 WALLET UPDATE!* on: May 07, 2017, 11:02:34 PM
Anyone contacted Bittrex trying to keep the coin there or asking why it's planned for removal?

I did, multiple times, they just didn't reply.

Sad

As much as I liked Bittrex in the past, in the last few months they became pretty bad.

Like I see there, what they delist .., they want to go rid off some of the cryptos.., don't know why.., probably want to reduce the server usage that way ...

Come on, be realistic. For such a massive company that is Bittrex, server costs are negligible compared to having to run the wallet and sometimes having to upgrade.

They should just have a clearly disclosed minimum required trading volume rolling average so we could get it above the limit instead of a sudden removal of a coin that's volume was 100% exclusive to their exchange.

It's both ridiculous and unprofessional.

Talking about being unprofessional... at the very least they should reply to messages in a timely manner.

I guess they're earning so much from p&d scams lately that they don't care about lesser coins anymore.

I'm actually 5th on suprnova, with only 8 RX470 on it ...

That's like almost 2 x 1070:

that looks like ccminer 1.2? wow, my gtx1080 only reaches 26 MH/s (windows). Sad
31 MH/s with tpruvot's ccminer 1.8 at --intensity 25

It's an older miner from sp_. Max intensity is 24.8 for me and with high (possibly unstable) OC and max power target I get flat 30 Mh/s. But that would be too much for my PSU.
993  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: how are these alt whales cashing out? on: May 07, 2017, 03:44:27 PM
most of the action happens on poloniex yet I've been waiting months to get my withdrawals above 2000 per day.

there must be people on there with thousands of btc.

how are they getting it off? special deals? they don't plan to leave?

unless they do something then it'll take a couple of years to get their profits out.

same goes for many other alt exchanges now. that would annoy me.

Probably using dozens of bot/script controlled accounts.
994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's going on with BTC transaction times?? on: May 07, 2017, 01:35:59 AM
The mempool tide has caused more than 140000 transactions on the queue to get confirmation. This is just because of the increased transactions getting added in a short time period. For faster confirmation bigger transaction fee is the only go, else need to wait more than weeks.

Yes, but a couple of quarters are still stupidly cheap for transactions considering the benefits of Bitcion. Either you have a spammed and bloated blockchain or a genuine competition based around transactions fees.

As much drama and ridiculous fork attempts are going on for bigger blocks, the current system is capable of holding the number of non-peanut transactions for years to come (not indefinitely though).

Bitcoin simply shouldn't be used for dust transactions anymore which is fine; there are dozends of coins to chose from to do that. But the loud minority on various forums are going apeshit in the delusion of representing every Bitcoin user screaming for bigger blocks while the silent majority is doing perfectly fine with the current block size.

996  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fury card suddenly gets 8MH/s when monitor is plugged in to Nvidia GPU on: May 06, 2017, 07:37:44 PM
Hello,

I've got a Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury and a GTX 1080 in my PC. Everything was working just fine until yesterday. Suddenly the Fury goes from 31MH/s down to 8MH/s - but only if my monitor is plugged in to the GTX 1080. If I plug the monitor into the Fury, it goes back to 31MH/s.

I haven't changed anything, same drivers, same Windows, same everything.

Got Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-6600K, 16GB RAM, 16.5GB swap file. Using 17.4.3 drivers for the Fury and 382.05 for the Nvidia card. Like I said, nothing has changed since the sudden lower hash rate.

Any ideas?

Edit: I've tried Claymore's ETH miner 9.2 and 9.3 with the same results.

Edit 2: I was too quick to write, I guess. I solved it by plugging in another monitor to the Fury card. However, I did not have this monitor plugged in previously, which makes it weird anyway.

You might need some dummy plugs. Didn't know this was still an issue for AMD.
997  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PIVX on some next level shit on: May 06, 2017, 03:50:28 PM
Never even considered their ability to do something like this  Shocked

https://youtu.be/Jp6TRP7epRk

I expect you think something like this will help the dwindling PIVX price. Actually to me it highlights the problem with PIVX that is it just a copy paste coin that has been pumped and has not real innovation of justification for its existence so it's looking for something to keep the bullshit party going.

PIVX is a dash cut and paste worthless coin and will in time return to the dust it came from.

Why do you talk about shit you know nothing about? It's far from a copy paste coin and "dwindling price" at $1.64?

With a low premine of 25000 and a low supply coin, TOPAZ is trader and miner friendly.

A low, only ~110 days worth of subtle and humble premine.  Grin Grin Grin

What is this, 2013?

Edit: Oh, and it's you, the serial shitcoin creator (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;threads;u=681157;sa=showPosts).

someone know if the mini 1070 is good for mining, like the kfa2 mini oc, i heard they throttle a lot

I only used 970 minis (so higher power than 1070) but never again. Super loud, throttles a lot and slower even without termal throttling.
1000  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mineable VS Not Mineable on: May 04, 2017, 12:46:31 PM
I ignore every single non mineable coin not just because I'm a hobby miner, but mainly because non mineable coins have inferior initial coin distribution.

Mineable and non mineable coins also tend to attract different groups of people; ICOs generally attract gamblers/investors/cryptonewbies while mineable coins mostly attract enthusiasts/investors. Make no mistake, both groups are focusing on profits but they're different.

Coins created out of thin air by the dev for free and sold for an arbitrary price is just feels fake compared having to actually compete against other miners to get coins.

Not that mining is difficulty but it requires more than just giving some random anon dude money in exchange for a few pretty pictures and promises.

How do you perceive Mineable vs Not mineable coins? Does a Mineable coin less likely to be a scam? How does it affects its value?
Does Not Mineable coins have better chances of getting to a higher value?
Do you even consider this as a criteria when analyzing an altcoin?
What are your views?

Mineables are shitcoins to me.

"According to VICE Motherboard, In June 2015 one Bitcoin transaction required the same amount of electricity as powering 1.57 American households for one day, of which the average sized home is approximately 2700 square feet."

https://blockgeeks.com/bitcoins-energy-consumption/

Mineable coins will always be more expensive for no good reason. Value will be drained to electric companies.

We're rushing towards cheap renewable energy partly of the electricity demand created by Bitcoin. And the faster we get there the better.

"no good reason" - other than better (at least initial) distribution, a much stronger network and decentralized control and the coin having a price floor as it costs a certain amount to mine them.
