981  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's UEFA Champions League Football Preditor Pool Discussion thread on: October 14, 2020, 02:01:10 PM
Sorry about the delay. Sign up thread has just gone live: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5282018.msg55378160#msg55378160

It will be around £25 to join but as examplens said above I won't collect the money in until a month or so from now so we can maximise getting users signed up.

I see a potential problem with that plan. You can delay collecting the money but you can't delay making picks in Superbru. You get about 15 "default picks" and that is it. What is the incentive for somebody to join let's say 3 weeks after CL started and begin our pool with big points handicap?

If somebody is on the line and thinking about joining our pool my advice is to join free CL pool and make picks. That way if join our pool at later date you will have all the points.

Problem is that I don't expect a lot of people who will find about our pool late after CL already started will have the picks already made in Superbru.

There's no issue other than missing out getting people signed up in time. As I stated in the other thread once you pledge to join I'll send them the link to sign up so people can play straight away. If they don't pay later down the line when I collect money then they will just be removed so people won't need to use default picks. I'm just trying to get as many users interested as I can since I left it a little late and people can worry about paying later. Spread the word anyway. I'm sure we'll get most of the regulars but it would be nice to get some fresh faces.

Just out of curiosity OP, could you tell us how many spam reports you've made in the last 3 months?

Looks like OP has left the building. No answer to my question whatsoever, but I wouldn't have expected anything else tbh...

He's been offline 3 days. Not everyone is on the forum everyday. Why should he or anyone else have to spend their time reporting thousands of shitposts for absolutely nothing it return? I'd argue that staff shouldn't have to deal with it anyway as there's already a shitload of stuff to deal with without being unpaid campaign managers as well. What you're saying is like asking someone who's complaining about people littering in their area then asking that person how much time they spend picking it up. People shouldn't have to clean up others shit, and especially when other people are getting paid to shit all over the place.

When Solskjaer replaces Mourinho they had a series of excellent results. I think 15+ unbeatable with some respectable goal score. They haven't players like Fernandes, Wan Bissaka, Maguire, Greenwood... Also in last season, last few months, I think they have most earned points in the league, especially after the restart. So, same players with two different performances, it's clear this is the manager's fault. Like Mourinho's fault before Ole. It looks as if they are on the field together for the first time.
I don't think Leicester had a better squad in their title-winning season, but they did what they did.
I like Ole, but this is too big a step in his career, despite his great love for the club and good understanding of club heritage he must leave manager position.

Leicester are a perfect example of this toxic culture of sacking managers after a few bad results. Leicester should have built a god damn statue of Ranieri after he won the league with them, but instead they sacked him the following season after a poor start but not one they should have fired him over. I thought the way the club treated him was disgusting. Was it really his fault for the poor form? Absolutely not. He didn't do anything different in the following season as far as I can tell but the owners started to panic after their bad form and ousted him only to replace him with the second in command, which was Craig Shakespeare really a better option? He won a couple of games and then they sacked him as soon as they started to fall down the table and the cycle continues. They then went through a handful of managers before settling on Brendan Rodgers, now is Brendan Rogers any better than Ranieri. They should have just stuck with Ranieri and see where it went. Even if the unthinkable happened and they got relegated, they should have given him the decency of trying too get back up but I don't think they would have ever got that bad with him.
984  Other / Meta / Re: Project Development board change? on: October 13, 2020, 10:58:04 AM
I don't see a problem with trust being shown everywhere. Doesn't hurt anyone, might help someone.

I don't have a problem with it either, but theymos has said before he doesn't want it influencing opinion of people in other boards where trading isn't relevant. There are pros and cons to both ways though.

His statement is no longer relevant since trust also used for purpose besides trading such as obvious scam attempt, sharing malware and imposing someone else.

I don't think that's true. There are certainly cases to be made for both sides of the argument, and I would say that showing the trust score everywhere will no doubt stop at least a few potential scams, but on the flip side it will also cause some disruption as people will use someone's feedback score as a point of attack and an ad hominem to an argument. Of course, it doesn't matter too much as you can just click on their profile and see their score but it does effect how you perceive people. I remember in the past seeing certain user's posts, wondering if they're a troll or just an idiot and then you see their feedback with multiple red tags and suddenly their behaviour makes sense. I've also seen in the past people bring up a certain users trust score as if that makes their case invalid and that's where it becomes an issue. Also, on the flip-side of that, sometimes feedback does help you judge a person, but that's where the issues can arise. Theymos probably won't change it but it will be interesting to know it he still feels the same or has in fact changed his mind.

Saturday can't get here fast enough!

Yeah, and this rounds opening game is the Liverpool derby as well which could be huge. If Everton can get a win at home then they'll be buzzing and retain the number one spot. Villa in second place have a game in hand though and are playing two games so could overtake them depending on the results. Too early to put too much emphasis on who is in first place right now but start as you mean to go on. Winning streaks often give teams a huge confidence boost.
986  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2020/2021 on: October 13, 2020, 08:22:36 AM
After Ferguson retired the whole Manchester United team changed.
In my opinion, it is not Solskjaer fault that the team is bad - even the fact that I do not like Ole Gunnar I still think that Man Utd will have the same results with Pochettino as well.
The management needs to spend money on the player and hire young talents from teams that promote them such as Ajax for example.

There would always be a big drop off after such a great coach leaves. The only way to solve the mess they’re in is to get rid of Solksjaer but because he’s a club legend it’s difficult, they can’t just cast him aside. They need to treat him with respect.

They don't care about that. Whether he's a club legend or not that doesn't usually stop clubs sacking them once they don't get results, but every time it looks like Ollie is on shaky ground and looks like his head may roll next he seems to turn it around and have a win streak. From what I remember United haven't started off well the past couple of seasons but they ended up in third position last year which is pretty good going despite the huge gap in points between Liverpool and City in first and second. With sacking managers they probably won't want to let him go if they haven't got a better first immediately lined up. Sacking him to only have the second in command running it isn't going to be much different. I think clubs need to move on from this mentality of just sacking managers whenever they don't perform unless they have done something tactically inept, but it's usually the players on the pitch's fault when this happens. More often than not managers can turn things around given time or they likely would but most don't get that opportunity. Fergie didn't do very well when he took over United and in todays climate he likely would have been sacked before he could turn United into what they became.
987  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do people earn money from Crypto and in this forum in general? on: October 12, 2020, 10:15:52 AM

Now my question is, are there more things that could result into creation of money from cryptocurrency and from this forum?

Looking forward to all of you!

Use your imagination. I've always found it a bit odd when people ask how they can acquire bitcoins. This is like asking what can I sell to make money. Well, anything. Bitcoin is money.  Anything you can sell on ebay or a marketplace you can sell here as long as it's legal. Got an old phone or clothes or other items you don't need? Sell them on the marketplace. Do you have any skills? Offer them as services. Buy something to resell. You can make money reselling proxies and and lots of other services. Like I said, just use your imagination but any way you can normally acquire money is the same way for bitcoin.

As for trading, well of course you can make a bit of money from it but most people I know tend to lose it because they don't really know what they're doing. I would advise safer ways to get some bitcoin and once you do hold it for a while and ride the ups and downs and sell when it hits a price you're happy with.
988  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin talk could fix the spam in one move....REMOVE SIGNATURE...Right?? on: October 12, 2020, 09:58:44 AM
They are already paying members to join and if they're via the ad spot, to theymos.

It's a win-win on both sides. More traffic to the site means higher exposure to the ad moneh.

Sure, more traffic usually means more revenue but I'm not sure it would drop that much because this is still the number one place for bitcoin discussion even if all the spammers left. Also, theymos doesn't seem to care that much about the ads or money and has said before that he has thought about removing adverts and also that the forum doesn't need any more money. Personally I think it would be silly to forgo the ad spot but it's still there at least.

While I agree with you partially, I don't think it will likely prevent spam. Spammers gonna spam. Ads are a part of the life now, you see ads everywhere. Be it on YouTube, Spotify, streets etc. It's annoying to have them but at the same time they make platforms free and smooth. I think if Bitcoin Signature campaigns have to pay a small fee for running their campaigns to bitcointalk forum (I think they already do, but not sure) that will generate revenue for the site to be well maintained. There are already rules for spamming, and it gets you suspended or banned. And spammers are also kicked from sig campaigns as well by managers Smiley
Spamer will not disappear from this forum they will continue to exist but if caught breaking the rules then they will be banned from this forum or even in the signature campaign being promoted, I see the manager is now getting tougher in selecting participants for part of the campaign therefore spamer will never participate in any advertisement because it is considered bad for everyone.

Now the campaign is growing with you, the promotion in this forum may be due to a pretty good increase so that many platforms are willing to open opportunities for those who want to join the campaign.

A handful of campaign managers might be strict and are doing their job adequately, but it wouldn't matter if 99% of them were doing so as if one campaign comes along and does nothing and causes 99% of the spam then it drowns out everything else. I don't think a lot of the campaign managers are doing a great job either. Even some of the 'reputable' ones seem to be doing a poor job and don't really care how many campaigns they take on as long as they're getting paid and that of course means the quality of posts deteriorates when they don't really have enough time to run them properly.
989  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: October 10, 2020, 01:17:31 PM
I’m sure I read that Juve refused to release their players for the internationals. It’s all about money, it’s the only reason these games are being player. The real bread & butter is club football.
No kidding? Sad
So no rolando in the UEFA play for portugal then? What a shame clubs do this to their players under contract. If they want to play for their country. But it is what it is. Undecided
I would of thought it was for reasons due their last match being forfeited. I didn't look into the details to why they didn't play last weekend.

This isn't true. Ronaldo played in the friendly game against Spain this week and if he plays in a friendly then he'll almost certainly be playing in the Nations League game tomorrow. I'm not even sure clubs can withhold players like this, otherwise they would probably just do it all the time as they don't want to risk them getting inured. The only people who probably have a say whether they're playing or not is the players themselves. I'm sure I remember Ronaldo missing a few pointless international games before whilst he's been on sunning it up on holiday. He might have even missed some games for Real or Juve when they've not mattered as well.

~~~~~
I don't know if anyone has asked this before, but what do you, or the moderation team think of solving the spam issue(other than the remove signature option which has been the goto-reply for years). Like why not make signatures restrictive for full members, or above? Or make some boards for full member and above(like Serious Discussion), but with signatures ON instead? How about hosting some sort of contests every week, or some games(like how Among Us is getting insanely popular, forum members could get invited to play).  Or how about expanding bitcointalk more than just as a forum, and exploring the idea of having courses related to bitcoin launched on this forum, or other platforms, and also maybe having a youtube channel as such? I can go on about recommending things, that might potentially increase forum discussions, if said things are implemented right.
Well it's been discussed many a time before and threads like this always pop up every once in a while and I as well others usually offer the same suggestions over and over. You could of course restrict signatures to certain ranks and that would help a bit, but it wouldn't be a solution to the problem as there are thousands of highly ranked accounts that do make low quality posts and will continue to do so. I also think it would be harsh to blanket ban lower-ranked members when there will be great posters among them and to get a high rank is hard and also very time consuming (unless we offered more donator ranks which some with the benefits of higher ranks). I think a much fairer solution would be just to enforce the signature campaign guidelines and punish poorly run campaigns and the problem would likely solve itself. Do you ban roads because there's a minority of idiots who want to joyride and go 150MPH everywhere?  No, you punish the idiots who are causing the problem. The forum is in a bad way because there's absolutely no ramifications for doing a bad job but once there is people will quickly learn that it's not acceptable to do a shoddy job.
991  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin talk could fix the spam in one move....REMOVE SIGNATURE...Right?? on: October 09, 2020, 09:08:22 PM
I don't understand at all, after many years, people still complain about signature campaigns, why? What's wrong with it?
I think this thread is a perfect example of what it wrong with them. Did you even read the replies here as there's plenty of comments explaining what is wrong with your arguments and you're just saying the same thing as everyone else is over and over.
First of all bitcointalk is a place where you can discuss about bitcoin, blockchain and crypto related threads.
And you can do that without signatures.
This forum is an insane source of amazing information and of some amazing people.
And it's hidden beneath thousands of shitposters giving out incorrect information or saying the same things reworded dozens if not hundreds of times.
This is a forum where you can post your question about technical thing, economics, etc and get solid answers. What's wrong with signatures? You post here, help people and earn some money.
The problem is obviously the monetised spam. Everyone knows littering is bad, but imagine if someone started to pay others to litter. It would get messy very fast.
Haven't you ever visited any other forum? For example reddit and others? Spams are everywhere, nothing can fix it. Our posts also shouldn't be 100% related to technical staff and PHD degree. It's also communication between users.
And can you imagine how bad reddit or anywhere else would be if somehow they could get get paid for posting there. Paying people to spam just exacerbates the problem ten thousand-fold.
People trade here, do good things. This forum gives new and old businesses a possibility to promote, become popular and start a project in crypto industry. This forum is the great place for this purposes too. Signature campaigns help businesses to spread their message and this helps crypto industry to develop. By using signature campaigns, there were created and promoted a lot of very successful projects that play now the major role in crypto business.
Someone spray painting an advert on the front of your house might be good for their business and spreading the word. Doesn't mean to say we should accept that.
Signature campaigns also drive traffic on this website. I can't believe you haven't seen a high quality posters who put signature in their profile.
That's not the problem with the few high quality posters posting under a signature... The problem is the thousands of other shitposters sullying the discussion and drowning out any useful information.
Let's imagine we removed signatures, what do you think, people won't ever post spam things? Check other forums who don't have signatures, there are still dozens of spam posts.
Again, now imagine someone offered to pay people to post on those forums... what do you think would happen then?
And enough is enough!!! Brain is f***ed by such threads.
Well that's how a lot of people feel when they see the wall-to-wall spam everyone. Everyday I think I've seen every possible permutation possible of gambling threads, then someone will create a thread like Do you gamble on the toilet. Do you gamble drunk. Do you gamble on an aeroplane. Have you every gambled on the toilet of an aeroplane. Have you every gambled on the toilet of an aeroplane whilst being drunk. And the shit threads go on. Are you telling me people would create those threads here or anywhere else if they weren't getting paid to do so? Of course not, they've just run out of possible things to talk about so they come up with any ridiculous thing they can.
Out of all the replies, 64 posts can wear signature (I mean if all the posts were posted by individual users, that would be 64, there are 2 newbies who don't have the right to wear signature.
Now, out of that 64 posts, only 3 didn't have any signature which includes 2 of your posts (OP isn't included). Probably 3 posts have their own signature (Not paid). Rest are paid. Now, would you get such a discussion without the presence of all of the poster here? I doubt. You would get only a few posts.
I guess signature isn't the problem here at all. Problem is the size vs the stuff working for the forum. If theymos employs some more stuff, I guess spam could be easily deleted and spammers could be kicked out of the forum.
But how many of them are saying anything new? Most just seem to be worried about their paycheck disappearing whilst saying the same thing as everyone else.
992  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BitcoinNews.com's UEFA Champions League Football Preditor Pool Discussion thread on: October 09, 2020, 10:07:35 AM
Any updates? There only 2 weeks left until start of group stage, so I think it would be right time to open sign up for the pool. If we will start late, it would be too difficult to get decent number of players.
I'll get it set up over the weekend. There's usually not as many people sign up for this tournament anyway but a week will be enough time to get the usual suspects involved. Does anyone have a price point for entry? Was thinking 0.003 which is a little over £25 right now. Does anyone want to sponsor the pool to boost the pot a little as well?
993  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: October 09, 2020, 10:03:17 AM
Sort of a drag that we gotta wait this long to resume play but hey, at least it gives all of us (myself included) some more time to research our plays for October 17th.  Wink
I'm in 29th place and only 15 points back from the lead; but I feel a strong performance is coming my way!
International football sucks, I always hate it when we have to have 2 weeks off from the PL football so the international games can be played. It’s especially bad when my team got humped by Aston Villa 7-2 & I just want to erase that memory by playing the next game.
There's just too much football to try to cram it all in every year. I was thinking that they should play the internationals in between domestic seasons but there's probably not enough time for that either with international tournaments like the Euros and World cup and now obviously the Nation's League. It's just all about money at the end of the day and milking everything for the TV rights. Look at the what they've done to the future world cup... they've extended it from 32 teams to 48 which is just ridiculous. All it means is 16 extra shit teams will go through and you get to see them get spanked whilst the tournament goes on for an extra week or two and all so they can get more money from advertisers and broadcasters. They should probably look at scrapping certain domestic cups or playing them maybe once every two years or something but again probably just all comes down to money. Most big teams don't even seem to take them serious these days either. I dare say they'll probably dream up even more leagues and cups eventually. I know there was talk about doing some sort of European super league like with the best teams from all Europe playing each other all season but that would be hard to pull off I reckon: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Super_League_(association_football)
994  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: October 05, 2020, 08:27:13 AM
I didn't do too bad this round getting 8.5 points and coming 30th out of 50 but still ended up rock bottom on the table  Grin. I didn't bother watching the Liverpool game as I thought it would be boring and an safe Liverpool win. What happened to them? Nobody picked the Villa win and only one person went for the draw. Villa are now second in the table with a game in hand. Everton are in first place right now and they've playing Liverpool in the first game next round. Now that will be a game to watch.
There's no games until the 17th now because of the crappy international break.
995  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: October 04, 2020, 12:06:55 PM
I am not watching Leicester vs West Ham match but what is going on? Leicester are 2 down, only two users got them to win and it seems majority of us will walk away without any point in this match.
I'm watching it. West Ham are just the better team and Leicester have been lacklustre. Annoying as I only needed Leicester to win for my five fold but doubt that will be coming in unless Leicester can turn things around pretty quickly in the first half.
Leeds were getting better starting at the last 10 mins of the first half.
I am already considering my side bet with cryptofrka as a lose bet. I did not have much idea about this Leeds team in the beginning LOL
I'm a Leeds fan but I had them pegged to be a relegation favourite. If they keep playing like they have been then there's no reason why they can't do really well this season. A point against City and nearly one against Liverpool is pretty good going.
996  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: October 03, 2020, 06:37:57 PM
No correct scores yet but I've got all the outcomes right so far today. I'm surprised only two other people went for the draw on the Leeds/City game as Leeds have been playing pretty well in my opinion. Three backed Leeds to win and the rest was City away wins. City dominated the first half but I think Leeds were the better team in the second, though they started to struggle towards the end but got the deserved point.
997  Other / Meta / Re: Don't send PMs begging for merits. on: October 01, 2020, 02:30:40 PM
I can't count any more PMs coming in for me.
I have just the opposite experience, no one has ever asked me for any service related to merit - neither to give them away, nor to sell them. Maybe the thing is that those who do it target merit sources or have some other criteria that my profile doesn't meet Roll Eyes
It's very hard for an average poster to rise through the ranks, hell, even a decent poster probably won't achieve the sufficient merit to become a Hero within the timeframe it takes to get the required activity so skipping the queue by donating seems like a win-win to me.
Maybe then it's time to modify the current requirements, which are obviously too difficult for most new and some old members. If 1000 merits is the current request for Legendary rank, maybe we should lower it to 750, and Hero from 500 to maybe 350 or 400 merits. Of course, the question arises what to do with lower ranks, because in my opinion Jr. Member is very easy to reach, just like Member (1 - 10 merits) but even 10 times more is needed for Full Member rank which is too much in my opinion.
Maybe the ranks could be tweaked a bit. Legendary should probably follow the other ranks at 750 merit and in doubling with every one. I'd like to see an additional rank for those very high merited users. Some other perks would be nice.
It's very hard for an average poster to rise through the ranks, hell, even a decent poster probably won't achieve the sufficient merit to become a Hero within the timeframe it takes to get the required activity (...)
What most people don't understand is that life's too short to care too much about Merit. I've often wondered how much money and energy people lose when they spend their time desperately posting spam and begging for Merit and coins, instead of putting that time and energy in a real-life job with a real-life income (fiat of course, but at least it's better than nothing except for a lot of frustrations and in the end seeing your modest profile getting banned for spamming or begging).
People should come to these boards to learn, participate (that's not a synonym of shitpost) and have a good time (probably in that order).
That's like saying life's too short to care about money or a promotion at work. It's those things that often give people a better life so that's why they desire them as ranks here = promotion and more merit = more money and time saved if they can get it. The majority of people who spend their time here desperately trying to achieve ranks or earn from from campaigns are probably doing it because it's one of their better options. Would you rather be unemployed or do back-breaking menial work when you can get paid from the comfort of your own home for doing some posting? Some signature campaigns pay a good amount of money and if you're from the developing world getting on a campaign like Chipmixer might be life-changing money so that's why people are desperate for merit/ranks as it means more money for them. If most of these people had better options they'd probably be doing them but sadly they likely don't.
998  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2020/2021 on: October 01, 2020, 10:26:43 AM
Leeds vs Man City should he a really good tame, obviously City are the better team but desire, hunger & passion can overcome more talented teams sometimes. If you play this game 10 time City probably win 8 of them but Leeds have a chance, they’re such a hungry team, the fight for every ball.
I would have said City are the better team over Leicester but they turned them over and Leeds very much deserved a point from the Liverpool game. If it wasn't for the two penalties they arguably would have got the full 3. Hopefully Leeds can take advantage of City's weakened team and recent performance. Leeds are playing Leicester at home at the end of the month as well and that will be another potentially great game.
999  Other / Meta / Re: Don't send PMs begging for merits. on: October 01, 2020, 10:05:07 AM
I still really think we should add more donator ranks so things like this are less likely to happen and people can just buy themselves the equivalent rank rather than beg and fish for merits with threads created solely to try receive merit. It's counter-productive when that happens.
I would prefer modifying copper member, such as silver and gold member rather than donator which have fixed costs.
More donator ranks as in new, different ones ie Silver and Gold Member etc.
I don't believe that buying high ranking accounts is good. It tends to bypass the selection process, and it is a bit confusing for members. However, lets say a senior exec from a £10billon exchange wants to join - should he have to start as a newbie, when he clearly isn't a Bitcoin newbie?  I would suggest a new rank of "sponsor", and it would be up to Theymos to decide if an applicant is suitable. Posting and advertising rights could be based on either payment, or the status of the sponsor's organisation.
I'm not suggesting people buy accounts or even the current user ranks but the benefits thereof ie you buy a Silver Membership which gets you the benefits of Full Member and Gold gets you the benefits of a Hero or something. You'd still be a Newbie or whatever just with the additional title. It's very hard for an average poster to rise through the ranks, hell, even a decent poster probably won't achieve the sufficient merit to become a Hero within the timeframe it takes to get the required activity so skipping the queue by donating seems like a win-win to me.
Good for you guys for being really tolerant for stuff like this. On a bad day, I could probably see myself publicizing their PMs lol. Thankfully I haven't received any spam emails for a while though, so there's that.
but it seems to be the mid ranking members that do this.
Now this is the quite surprising part.
Seems some people are getting desperate to rank up as a couple of people have messaged me recently as well as a couple of people reporting unsolicited PMs. I usually just ignore the messages but people need to be really careful as this can easily backfire and they can end up tarnishing their account. I still really think we should add more donator ranks so things like this are less likely to happen and people can just buy themselves the equivalent rank rather than beg and fish for merits with threads created solely to try receive merit. It's counter-productive when that happens.
