I've heard all the arguments here, and for a while we were fans of the Animal Planet shows that centered on pit rescues.  I'm an animal lover.  I just don't know that, at this point in the breed's history, if these aggressive traits can be successfully bred OUT of them.  The unpredictability is just too much of a risk.  Umair's description of Ontario's response seems reasonable to me.  Just does.

Don't most owners of pitfalls breed the dog to be vicious? Like some kind of trophy so when the walk down the street it looks like the dog is walking them. Pitbulls are pure muscle and can be trained to kill but also can be loving and caring.
Exacly!

Some segments of the Internet are abuzz with the claim by climate change skeptic Steven Goddard (Tony Heller) over at his Real Science blog that NASA/NOAA have been jiggering the numbers so that they can claim that warmest years in the continental United States occurred recently, not back in the 1930s. Folks, please watch out for confirmation bias.http://reason.com/archives/2011/07/12/scientific-literacy-climate-ch
https://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2014/06/23/noaanasa-dramatically-altered-us-temperatures-after-the-year-2000/

Via email, I asked Anthony Watts, proprietor of WattsUpWithThat, what he thinks of Goddard's claims. He responded...
http://wattsupwiththat.com/
...while it is true that NOAA does a tremendous amount of adjustment to the surface temperature record, the word“fabrication” implies that numbers are being plucked out of thin air in a nefarious way when it isn’t exactly the case.

“Goddard” is wrong is his assertions of fabrication, but the fact is that NCDC isn’t paying attention to small details, and the entire process from B91’s to CONUS creates an inflated warming signal. We published a preliminary paper two years ago on this which you can read here: http://wattsupwiththat.com/2012/07/29/press-release-2/

About half the warming in the USA is due to adjustments. We' received a lot of criticism for that paper, and we’ve spent two years reworking it and dealing with those criticisms. Our results are unchanged and will be published soon.

I agree, if you have to fudge the data your theory isn't worth the time of day. And if your defense against anyone that doesn't 'buy your theory is to claim they are idiots who believe the world is flat then your theory isn't based on fact or that would be your defense. I believed in global warming because of what the media reported, then a couple of engineers I worked with told me to google the issue and find out the truth. What an eye opener that was. Follow the money, in this case its trillions of dollars and most of it ends up in the pockets of politicians and their rich friends.
That makes TWO groups that have been caught fudging the numbers and there are probably lots more.  It is a great hoax on the American people and just another way to extract taxes from them.  Soon we will have nothing left to live on.
And who do you think is the hardest hit by the price increases from global warming? If the rich pay an extra 10k a year in income taxes to cover this crap they don't miss it. When the middle class pay an extra 1k in income taxes it matters. And when the cost of utilities and gas  and food goes up who is the hardest hit? The middle class and the poor because you know full well the Romneys and the Gates and the Buffets don't cut back on their groceries because of the increases and they don't turn the heat down a notch to cut the heating bill, its the poor and the middle class that is hardest hit. Who's making money while obama fiddle faddles over the Keystone? Why warren buffet of course. And who made hundreds of millions in tax payer dollars for failed green energy? That would be the rich while the workers got screwed out of jobs.

Why when someone sees a beautiful view do they claim "Look how beautiful that is. Only God could have created that. It is proof of his existence". Actually its proof of no such thing. It is what happens because of time, weather, nature and natural elements in harmony. Its not due to anything superstitious. It is the beauty of reality.
Actually that is called reason, not superstition.  Either the enormity of the cosmos  or a majestic view present such overwhelming order, design, and complexity that to believe that randomly came to be after matter popped into existence would be illogical, or at the very least it is illogical to entirely dismiss the supernatural.  Even prevailing views of origin cannot completely answer all associated questions, nor do they refute the existence of the supernatural.  You simply hold another faith based possibility which excludes an intelligent designer.
You make a lot of presumptions in your comments above which I don't have the time to dispute one at a time. I will say your entire concept of what "atheism" is all about is completely wrong. Atheism is a celebration of the logical over the illogical. There is no logic in superstition which you admit religion is. I have had experience with both theism and atheism as I have been both a Christian and an atheist. Believe me....of the two.... being an Christian is much easier. Its safe, comfortable and can be wrapped around you like a warm, protective coat. Being an atheist means you have to leave the matrix and except some harsh realities. We are animals, all animals die and that's the end of it. No eternal life, no soul, no heaven or hell. No God.

That's not easy to swallow.

Some people need the truth. They simply are not fit for the matrix. Just like some need drugs to cope with reality and others prefer reality over fantasy. There is no "hopelessness" in being an atheist. It is not dark or bleak. There is no alienation, pessimism or gloomy desperation as some claim. There is strength in being able to live with what is real. There is a sense that life is precious and this is our only chance to do a good job as we won't be here again. It makes me a better mother to my children and a better wife to my husband. Atheism has given me many gifts, the greatest is freedom from superstition and unlocking my intellectual possibilities.

Thanks for something interesting to respond to........

I believe that having a specific religion is not important, the important things are our actions, not our words.
and I believe that, like Protestantism, that is a cop out from not having to adhere to a moral code, you get to decide whether your actions are good or not.
I find this higher power is inconceivable, and you are a Catholic and have named this power God and given it a set of tools, rules and garments I suppose so it is easier for you to accept. Yet I am certain this inconceivable power exists, I'm just not buying the man made rules. My rules are in my heart, mind and soul. This power resides in all of us, in everything in the universe............all connected.

Some make the connection, others live in denial, some just ignorant. You get your moral code from the Bible? Good luck with that.........

This power in the universe is much greater than I, I am powerless in comparison. but with an open mind I can see and I can hear..........
lol. No, I'm not, because as I've noted a thousand times, Catholics have no more answer to the theodetic question than do Protestants.

My rules are in my heart, mind and soul.

which is exactly what I said, sana thanks. And I believe that making your own rules is taking, no pun intended, the way out.
I beg to differ, my higher power, that you choose to designate as 'God', provides the rules and morals. It is up to me to listen and do the right thing. I haven't made any of my own rules, I am guided by a power greater than any of us.

Sorry, I made an assumption, you sounded kind of Catholic and you are Puerto Rican so I thought......

what about a captcha that changes a question every week so that will it make it harder for bot programmers to keep up with the new questions and answers all the time.

As usual the Middle East is a complete messed up. Here's an idea -- let them fix it. If they want to be an Islamic State, let 'em. Let's stay out of that hell hole and let them rot in their own madness.

So many anti-Semites ganging up on poor, pure Israel, right? Everyone who criticizes Israel is an anti-Semite, hmmm?

Has it ever occurred to you that maybe we're not the problem, but rather thee, who can see no evil when it comes to Israel?

996  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why has the left wing abandoned Israel? on: June 30, 2014, 01:17:33 PM
First of all, the Israelis are very aware of their own past history and specifically what happens when they put themselves at the mercy of other nations and without their own homeland or their own defense forces. They may flourish for a brief period but almost inevitably, they are made scapegoats for one reason or another and  too many times, are persecuted, made second-class citizens, driven off and sometimes, far worse. The Jews do have their own history of persecution and not just by one particular group. I seriously doubt most Jews would want to tempt fate the second time around.

Secondly, the Jewish religious aspect has already been mentioned, those Jews will never leave.

Thirdly, the political affiliation between the US and Israel. The US may do business with these Muslim countries in the Middle East but I seriously doubt our government looks upon these Muslim countries as real allies when push comes to shove, far too many religious hardliners, instability around every corner and the general antithesis between Islam and Christianity. Playing the odds, our government most likely sees Israel as the safer bet between the two factions.

As for the left-wing not supporting the State of Israel, these folks are generally much more concerned with domestic issues than foreign policy, they probably support a two-State solution for humanitarian reasons, it's a dead-end street.

If people stopped treating FB like some sort of moaning tool then maybe they wouldn't need to do research like this. FB has died in my eyes, I use Twitter. People are way more positive on Twitter, and I find that folk on FB say things that they wouldn't reveal in face to face conversation. It's a social disaster.

Thanks to all the publicity and funding devoted to global warming climate change research, scientists and eco-tourists have flocked to Antarctica.

Unfortunately, all of the human traffic associated with researchers and eco-tourists is killing Antarctica!

Quote
Scientists warn of tourism threat to Antarctica

Tourist numbers have exploded from less than 5,000 in 1990 to about 40,000 a year, according to industry figures, and most people go to the fragmented ice-free areas that make up less than one percent of Antarctica.

A growing number of research facilities are also being built, along with associated infrastructure such as fuel depots and runways, in the tiny ice-free zones.

It is these areas which contain most of the continent’s wildlife and plants, yet they are among the planet’s least-protected, said a study led by the Australian government-funded National Environmental Research Programme (NERP) and the Australian Antarctic Division.

Who did the scientists warn? Themselves?

Sometimes, to study an environment, you have to kill it.

yah big ole drama queen. If you think for a second that people are going to agree with you that Israel is the anti-Christ and the Pals innocent shepherds, my guess is that you're having hallucinations. Both sides have brought this upon themselves. since I'm the one suggesting the only practical solution: dissolving the state of Israel.

Do you have any objection to welcoming emigrating Israelis with immediate citizenship and generous resettlement packages?
1000  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why has the left wing abandoned Israel? on: June 30, 2014, 12:35:15 PM
That's not fair or accurate, I have no desire to see more bloodshed anywhere. Israel is the occupier and oppressor here sana. Israel is the one committing a slow steady genocide against the Arab population. Just take the Gaza 2009 massacre, it was horror unmitigated crime against humanity. I'm sorry if I have no sympathy for the folks responsible. There are consequences for actions, and if you're so worried that the whole world would come down on Israel, well I guess they should have been a little more diplomatic and humane from the start instead of attacking, murdering, destroying and stealing..............all while oppressing the Arabs to the extreme.

It's too late for your MMQ theatrics. Israel does not deserve anyone's support or approval. The government of Israel is a terrorist entity. To be a prime minister even, you need to have terrorist credentials man! Your ideas are pipe dreams now, it has gone way to far.
It most certainly is. You know as well as I what would happen if the US just walked away from Israel--you'd leave Israel NO choice but to exercise her military might against any potential threat, which would lead to an increased spiral of violence. You know that as well as I. So when you suggest just "cutting them off", knowing that, how can you say you're not desirous of more bloodshed?

As for who is more responsible or the criminals, I, and frankly the entire fucking world, are tired of that. There's enough blame on both sides to last the next millenium--just too many weapons for them to EXIST for the next millenium. This has nothing to do with "Jews and Muslims" "Arabs and Israelis", it has to do with too many monkeys fighting over too few resources. Remove the Israelis and that fighting is likely to continue to a certain degree, but it will be between various Palestinian factions, and will not be as suicidally genocidal as it will be if each aims and fires its deadliest weapons at the other.
