1142  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Edward Snowden on Bitcoin: “Bitcoin By Itself is Flawed” on: August 17, 2015, 08:22:23 AM
In an interview at The Internet Engineering Task Force 93, former CIA employee and NSA contractor Edward Snowden spoke about privacy and security. Interestingly, Snowden focused his talk on Bitcoin and its flaws and weaknesses.

Snowden began by briefly introducing the 51% attack concept, and stated that the Bitcoin network could be vulnerable to attacks and manipulation if “a pool has over 50% of the computing power to demonstrate adequate proof of work to add entries to the blockchain ledger.”

Snowden commented :

Quote
“Obviously, Bitcoin by itself is flawed. The protocol has a lot of weaknesses and transaction sides and a lot of weaknesses that structurally make it vulnerable to people who are trying to own 50 percent of the network and so on and so forth.”

and here is the Github link for the Interview : https://gist.github.com/mnot/382aca0b23b6bf082116#bitcoin

What are your thoughts on his opinion guys Huh If you read more the article you will see that DASH has been mentioned few times , we all know how much he care about privacy .

1144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / QFX Softwares Accepting Bitcoin soon ! on: August 15, 2015, 09:23:45 AM
As some of you may know that I'am contacting some companies around (Gaming ,softwares etc ... ) and try to convince them to use Bitcoin as payment method (even if I should get signature using Change.org)

I emailed QFX Softwares Corporation (KeyScrambler is one of their best and most used products on the world for Anti-Keylogging that most of you may know)

I decided to contact them specially after I saw that they are supporting most of the Bitcoin wallets as you can see here (see [EDU]How to protect your wallet :

And here is their positive answer , I'd advice you to check their product out if you didn't, at least this is how we show our appreciation I guess Smiley

1145  Economy / Web Wallets / Blockchain.info Database ? on: August 15, 2015, 08:28:28 AM
I know that online wallets aren't safe and they are hackable and stuff etc .. and I myself recommend people not to use them usually .
but when I created the account it says that they have no copie of our passwords and on this page : https://blockchain.info/wallet/new It says that "WARNING: Forgotten passwords are UNRECOVERABLE and will results in LOSS of ALL of your bitcoins!" then they have
"We require a password of at least 10 characters in length to ensure that even if our database is compromised your wallet will remain secure."

So I'am not sure if I'am missin something here but how come it's impossible to recover and they don't have copie of our passwords and on the same time ... their database can be compromised  Huh

Unless they have only copie of hashed and encrypted passwords on their database ? Shocked

All those questions is because I have some 0.xx bitcoins on my Blockchain wallet and I printed them but it wouldn't make a lot of sense to make paper wallet if it's gonna get hacked online , right ?

TL;DR Basically I want to know how blockchain.info accounts can get hacked to make sure I will be safe 100% (how they are encrypted , stored etc .)
1146  Other / Beginners & Help / [EDU] Bitcoin Beginners Guide on: August 14, 2015, 07:18:07 AM
I'am not an expert on those stuff to be honest but I will share with beginners and newbies around the forum what I know about this matter and anyone who have any suggestion that I should add to this topic have to let me know and I will do it .

I will try to keep this thread updated as I can and add always new stuff .

Things you should consider doing to start :

  • Most , if not all websites related to Bitcoin are known here on the Bitcointalk community , if you are going to use a website (new for you) then make sure to search for it on Bitcointalk before doing anything .
  • Don't use any of the websites listed here :  [EDU] Bitcoin-related Scam Websites  .
  • Never store your Bitcoins on an exchange for a long time , once you do the exchange withraw to your real wallet .
  • If you are planning to use online Web or Smartphones wallet then you should use BlockTrail.com instead of Blockchain wallet because It's more secure [Two-Factor authentification , HD & it's Multi signature] .
  • If you are planning to use Desktop wallet for your PC then Electrum should be the best choice for you because you will have 13 words seed which can be used to recover your wallet incase of a computer failure . (print it and keep it safe)
  • Always make sure to use Two-Factor Authentication in your wallets [Both Electrum & BlockTrail.com wallets support that]
How to Protect your wallet :

Softwares needed :

Use one of the following programs (choose between 1 and 2) :

1.Malwarebytes Anti-Malware : Malwarebytes - Download Link
Most of you know Malwarebytes and how good this software is it , in case you are visiting a phishing/malicious website this software will most likely block it , same goes for any executables .

2.Hitman Pro : HitmanPro - Download link
Same goes HitmanPro it's another famous anti malware that people use however it have somethings that may makes you feel uncomfortable like scan only using the internet so if you don't have internet you may not be able to scan .

KeyScrambler : KeyScrambler - Download Link

KeyScrambler encrypts every key you type deep in the Windows kernel. It protects your private info against known and unknown keylogging malware on millions of websites and in hundreds of essential apps.
If you are afraid that you have Keylogger on your PC then this is definitly for you , note that this software support a lot of application including Bitcoin wallets  & check this KeyScrambler - Different versions

BitDefender : BitDefender [Total Security] - Download Link

BitDefender is considered as one of the best Anti-virus around and also won few awards in the last few years ! Yes more security always helps even while you are using KeyScrambler and Malwarebytes on the same time .
Key : BHKIYB3  [I found this key on the internet and it worked just fine for me , it gives you more then 1 Year subscription]

Windows 10 Users :

Updated : 4 October 2015 (Whoever downloaded the tool before that , should redownload it once again)

We all know how our privacy got screwed on this version of Windows 10 . Yes Microsoft do have a keylogger on your PC and I'am not sure how sophisticated is it and since it's on the Operating it self I'am not sure about the power of KeyScrambler on this matter .

As you can see on the picture above , this software allow you to disable all tracking made by Microsoft on Windows 10 .
HowTo & Source code : DisableWinTracking

DisableWinTracking is not made by a company or anything it's made by an individual and since I don't know Python I'am not sure how safe is it but since it's open source I'am sure that people can check it and see how legit it is .

I guess that's it , as I said on the top of the topic I'am not an expert and english is not my native language so I'am trying ... Grin
Feel free to post any suggestions that should be added .

for what comes to KeyScrambler some of you will say that we need Premium version to get full support for Bitcoin wallets . Well, Indeed you have to to buy a licence
I got an email and code from a friend and I'am using the Premium just fine and I guess you can use it more then once and on more then one PC but since some of your countries don't allow that etc ... idk  Huh
1147  Economy / Exchanges / Virwox Leveling system ? on: August 14, 2015, 06:46:41 AM
Does anyone of you here knows how Virwox leveling system works because I can't find anything about it on their website to be honest .
when I say how does it work I mean how much you need to deposit/or withraw to get leveled up to the next level , thank you
need to know this ASAP , I appreciate any fast answer .
1148  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin will die forever ? on: August 13, 2015, 06:58:50 AM
I saw that someone linked to this link and I have to say that's it's interesting for real http://qntra.net/2015/01/the-hard-fork-missile-crisis/
I joined bitcoin and btc community in late 2014 so I'am not sure when all this happened but this quote really attracted me and make me think :

Quote
There have only ever been two hard forks of the blockchain in the history of Bitcoin, and both nearly killed Bitcoin. The first was overseen by Satoshi in an attempt to fix the worst Bitcoin bug seen to date, and an unforeseen fork in which BerkeleyDB was replaced with LevelDB to allow for blocks greater than 512kb to be accepted by the network. The latter fork however didn't disenfranchise older clients by forcing them to use LevelDB over BerkeleyDB – a one line workaround resolves the bug in clients still running with BerkeleyDB.

Are my concerns justified or not? could something bad happen , I feel that all this BitcoinXT story and the censorship about it on Reddit etc ... will make bitcoin die just like that

This is an open discussion feel free to post your opinions and comments but let's keep this clean and no need to start fighting and insulting other members .
1149  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Bitcoin XT is hard to understand ? on: August 12, 2015, 07:33:52 AM
I asked months ago what is Bitcoin XT and peopl said it's something about double spending and peer to peer protocol if I remember right however it's seems deeper then that .

I really can't seem to understand what is it about exactly and it got even more confusing after getting few answers here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1150309.0;topicseen , so have few questions and I really appreciate any answer

  • Main and important one is I'am going to lose my bitcoins if I'am late on switching from Bitcoin Core to Bitcoin XT ?? and how is that done correctly
  • What's going to happen to Lightweight wallet ?
  • Why the price is going to be halved iif we switch to Bitcoin XT ?
  • Could you send Bitcoin from Qt to XT after majority switched to XT ? and could you import private keys/wallet.dat to XT aswell ?
  • What mistake I could do that could result on lost of all my coins
  • is Bitcoin XT an alternative coin ? if Yes is difficultly going to be small and we could mine with out PC's once again ?

1150  Other / Beginners & Help / What are Casascius coins and why they worth so much ? on: August 11, 2015, 06:44:26 AM
As the title says , I see a lot of people selling them on the Goods section however I don't understand why they are so valuable , it's simply a coin made of what ? real gold ?
I even saw someone selling it for 14.999$ on Ebay Shocked also where is the source of those things
1151  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Comedian Louis C.K Begins Accepting Bitcoin on: August 09, 2015, 04:24:23 PM
American comedian and producer Louis Székely, professionally known as Louis C.K has started to accept bitcoin payments for his comedy show performed at Madison Square Garden.

The audio-only show can be purchased with bitcoin through BitPay, and customers can choose the price for this audio album. Louis CK mentioned on his website:

“We have the price set to 5 dollars but you can lower it to 1 dollar or raise it to 85. that's the maximum, because beyond that, I don't want your crazy money.”

Louis C.K is the first comedian ever to accept bitcoin for comedy albums and shows.

You can read full article write here : http://cointelegraph.com/news/115085/comedian-louis-ck-begins-accepting-bitcoin

There is also a fan who said : "“I was actually just looking for some standup comedy on Youtube, then noticed this post. Best $10 ever spent.”

I personally don't know this guy because I'am not from USA and never heard of him or saw him on TV but he seems like a celebrity and it's nice to see Celebrities like him and Mike Tayson coming to Bitcoin world Smiley What do you guys think ??. Also in case you want to support the guy here is his website : louisck.net , He added Bitpay on the payment methods .
1152  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Bitcoin-qt and Malwarebytes ? on: August 09, 2015, 08:43:50 AM
As some of you already know that I unistalled Bitcoin Core and switching to Electrum ...
However I was at my friend's home the other day and while using the internet I saw a message poping on the bottom right of the screen when I saw it it was Bitcoin-qt and the message was from Malwarebytes Anti-Malware asking to exclude the website (the virus was from an IP adress/domain) , I was able to take a screenshot of the IP and I didn't find it on Malwarebyte :/ I just know it started with 91.xxx.xxx

What I'am asking is , why this happened exactly ? My friend is running full node so is it dangerous and the IP was from who exactly ?

1154  Other / Meta / Disallow Newbies from posting on "Lending" section ? on: August 08, 2015, 09:39:53 AM
I guess it's kinda abused , we see shitload of posts from newbies (even worst ..Brand new) who just make accounts asking for loans without even the first rule on Lending section "No Collateral , no Lending" on the sticky thread .

& those days it's even worst (If you noticed) we see those posts for newbies asking for "PRO" & "Experts" . Preventing newbies on that section would be a very good idea and it's helpful for us but it 's helpful for the moderators to have less work & it also just spamming database if people realize that they are unable to get loans unless they are junior they will stop making useless accounts .

1.5 month time should be paid to ask for loans ( which is the required time to become Junior Member AFAIK ) from hilariousandco  or Muhammed posts (not sure who originally posted this on Forum ranks/Position/Badge thread)

Code:
1 X 14 = 14
2 X 14 = 28
3 X 14 = 42   --  Jr. Member ( 1.5 month)
4 X 14 = 56
5 X 14 = 70   --  Member (2.5 month)
6 X 14 = 84
7 X 14 = 98
8 X 14 = 112
9 X 14 = 126   --  Full Member (4.5 month)
-snip-

I'am going to add a poll even if I know it will be tricked . Feel free to post if you agree or disagree with the idea with giving arguments of course .
1155  Economy / Digital goods / [WTB] Onhax.net account on: August 08, 2015, 08:48:31 AM
I'am looking to buy Onhax.net , I'am not even sure how those works , it's for a friend .
I guess accounts should be working on the forums aswell , he can't create his own since registration is under maintenance and OFF temporary. Let me know how much you are looking for if you have one Smiley
1156  Other / Beginners & Help / If Multibit HD or Electrum goes down ? on: August 08, 2015, 05:54:35 AM
Let's assume that Multibit HD & Electrum (both of them) went down for one reason or another , and I only have the seed of of them and no other file backups at all  , is there is any method I could use to recover my coins on another wallet or there isn't at all ?

I'am not sure but I guess I saw Quickseller somewhere saying that people could use Brainwallet or something ? but now the website seem to be down too for ever so...
1157  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What's the amount that every Bitcoiner should own ? on: August 07, 2015, 03:26:23 PM
I'am not sure if some of you remember this website (It dosen't work anymore) : http://amifilthyrich.com (It's redirect to their original website 99bitcoins)

According to this when the website was used 7 months ago https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2pqiqh/i_am_filthy_rich/
It seems like 92% of Bitcoiners own less then one BTC . (I'am not even sure how that's calculated since some people spread their coins on different wallets and adresses and some of them have shitload of adresses empty)

So , from that ... I want to know how much do you think every bitcoin should be holding ? (Holding means not using it or spend it just keep it safe on Cold storage or PC or whatever without touching them)
1158  Other / New forum software / a Bump button ?? on: August 07, 2015, 12:49:08 PM
I thought that making a bump button could be a really good idea , mostly on marketplace section
Instead of moderators coming always and ask us to remove previous bumps and make one each 24 hours , we should make a button that bump the thread and we can use it only once 24 hours of course .
This could be really helpful on decreasing some spam on signature compaigns or even without sig .

What are your thoughts guys ? Feel free to add more on what I said if you agree . just gave the basic idea I guess and developpers are free to do however they found good

1160  Bitcoin / Legal / Tokyo Court: Bitcoin Not "Subject to Ownership" on: August 06, 2015, 05:23:22 PM
Tokyo's District Court has ruled that bitcoin is "not subject to ownership", with a judge informing a plaintiff he could not claim for bitcoins lost in the Mt Gox collapse.
Judge Masumi Kurachi stated that, due to their intangible nature and reliance on third parties, bitcoins cannot be covered under existing law.

Mark ... this kind of crap that kills Bitcoin . just like Silk road or any other Darknet market
