1182  Other / Beginners & Help / Can Bitcoin wallets goes down ? on: July 26, 2015, 08:35:48 AM
I want to know something important , I'am really struggling with this Bitcoin Core because each time I close it and re-open it , it tells me that the data has been corrupted on the database and I need to do the reindexing another time which sucks and it really takes a lot of time (UP to two days sometimes).

So my question is can Bitcoin wallets goes down ? I mean Armory & Electrum & Multibit mostly , I know they are open source but do they need server connection or something ? I mean if there servers goes down are we going to be able to them or our BTC will be lost forever ? (Unless we still can run them to export private keys , not sure how it works) same goes for Bitcoin Core it can go down or it can't ? Shocked just want to know if they rely on a server or something that can be hacked .

1184  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Coinbase CEO: Bitcoin to surpass the dollar as reserve currency within 15 years on: July 25, 2015, 04:18:57 PM
The CEO of the world's largest bitcoin wallet provider believes that bitcoin could replace the US dollar as the global reserve currency by 2030.

Brian Armstrong, the co-founder and CEO of Coinbase, tweeted on 24 July that he thought "bitcoin could surpass the dollar as reserve currency within 10-15 years". Armstrong also revealed that Coinbase had a "rough plan" to make this happen.

Armstrong's comments come after reports that France's biggest bank, BNP Paribas, is looking at ways to incorporate bitcoin into its currency funds.

BNP Paribas has already been doing "beta testing" with cryptocurrency, a source at the bank told IBTimes UK, and an announcement is expected to be made in the coming weeks.

One of the biggest barriers to bitcoin being used as a store of value has been its volatility, however Armstrong believes bitcoin will overcome this issue as adoption and trust grows.

He also tweeted : "Many will find this crazy, but I think bitcoin could surpass the dollar as reserve currency within 10-15 years."

I'am not sure about you guys but I really don't think that's gonna happen that soon . your thoughts ? Grin

1185  Economy / Service Discussion / Bitcoin Best Exchange ? on: July 24, 2015, 06:43:07 PM
I'am usually against Exchanges since they ask you for ID and passport and other real life informations but I thought I could use to know the best just in case I feel to sell my BTC fast .

I would like to know which is the best , also details about it (Documents needed to start exchanging , how old the account should be ? deposit and withraw methods etc )

I'am also not sure how all this works ,I mean once I used Allcoin.com and I had an alt coin which is basically not known atall but I got it instantly when I traded , on those exchange ... who buys the coin we sell ? the website directly or we trade with other people who wants the same thing ? kinda confusing :/

1186  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / The French bitcoin revolution: BNP Paribas testing crypto on its currency funds on: July 24, 2015, 01:01:51 PM
France's biggest bank BNP Paribas is looking at ways bitcoin could be incorporated into one its currency funds, according to a source at the bank.

The source at BNP Paribas told IBTimes UK the bank has been doing "beta testing" involving crypotocurrency, and one of the bank's currency funds in Paris, with a view to making an announcement about that in the near future.

A spokeswoman for BNP Paribas said: "We are looking at blockchain technology and how it can be applied to post trade processes to make things faster and potentially cheaper but it's all very much projects and it's all in testing. It's nothing live."

BNP Paribas caused some controversy earlier this month when analyst Johann Palychata said bitcoin technology when applied to securities trading could make sections of the industry "redundant".

1187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / OpenBazaar to Launch this November, Targets Unhappy Ebay Users on: July 24, 2015, 09:12:48 AM
Youpiii  Cheesy

OB1, a company of OpenBazaar core developers, has announced that the online p2p marketplace and distributed network of buyers and sellers that allows users to sell products directly for bitcoin will be launched this November.

"With the US$1 million investment led by Andreessen Horowitz and Union Square Ventures, the Open Bazaar development team has focused developing the core platform and planning out the project’s roadmap. Additionally, all core developers have left their previous jobs to dedicate themselves to the project full time."

How come that it's "investement" while they won't get their money back ? isn't OpenBazaar totally free and there is no fees ? (only normal BTC transaction fees)

Do we have any happy Ebay users around the forums or you are all unhappy ? Shocked

1188  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitphone Becomes First Bitcoin Phone Company, Skype Competitor on: July 23, 2015, 03:39:39 PM
Bitphone, from Solid Cloud, is designed to take the best parts out of all of the above and fuse them into one web-based application, currently in beta. It’s a Web RTC based phone that can call SIP addresses, PSTN Phones and provide Peer-to-Peer communications. It works as an anonymous payphone. You don’t even need to register for its use. You can just go to the website from your phone, Internet Cafe, or local library, deposit some bitcoin, and simply place a call anywhere in the world. Bitcoin and its superior ability to utilize cost-efficient micro-payments takes care of the rest.

“Skype is great for Peer-to-Peer communications and talking with your friends and family,” Gavin Stevens, founder of Solid Cloud LLC and Bitphone told CoinTelegraph. “Skype does need to be installed however which can't be done on many corporate or public computers. When calling phones, Skype's rates are quite high and the US$10 Skype credit minimum which you'll never get back is frustrating.”

He added : "“Bitphone is ideal due to its portable nature ‘No install required’ We also offer cheaper rates than Skype for registered users.  Plus you only deposit what you need and can get your change back when you're done.”"

Also searched little bit on Bitcointalk and found this : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=915588.0 , most likely the same person who spoke with CoinTelegraph since the email contains same name as on the article .

What do you guys think about this idea , how successfull it can be ? Grin Are you personally planning to use it ? #Bitcoin_To_da_moon

This week, BitPervy, an adult entertainment site, which enables users to share porn for digital currency had its soft launch for users to test out its bitcoin revenue sharing system.

1190  Economy / Services / What services could I offer ? (14 hours a day) on: July 22, 2015, 03:08:00 PM
I'am near PC like 12-14 hours a day because I'am on holidays till October and I want to do something to earn some BTC , what do you suggest ? I have some skills on ASP.NET and C# , VB.NET & AutoIt but they aren't that used on Bitcoin related projects also I'am not that professional .

What I usually do doing this freetime is : Playing CS:GO Competitive but it gets boring if I start losing with a bad a Team , play Clash of clans  , and posting here on the forums .

1191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What Multi-signature really means & are they less safe ?? on: July 22, 2015, 01:57:26 PM
I never used any kind of those transactions of adresses , only on Bit-x.com and on BlockTrail.com and as most of you know ,those adresses starts with a 3 instead of 1 .

If basically Multi signature adress means having one private key with me and another with a friend or family member ... then how come we don't have control on a "part" of our private keys on Bit-x.com (this topic isn't about them , just giving an example)
basically what hacker need to do is steal the database and connect to our accounts (I know they have 2FA , just assuming)

I reading some articles on CoinTelegraph and jumping from a topic to another till I found my self on "The world's most secure and easy-to-use bitcoin wallet" which seems like it's this : https://choosecase.com/

when I checked their website I found this :
Quote

We're building the world's most secure wallet platform. Case is a multi-signature, multi-factor wallet that requires 2-of-3 keys for a  transaction to take place. Each key is generated and stored in a different location and protected by a different authentication factor so there’s no single point of failure.
  • Dedicated hardware that's malware/virus proof
  • Case servers only control one key so we don't have possession of funds
  • Open source firmware and third party security audits of all systems
  • Designed to meet CryptoCurrency Security Standard Level III

Check the one on bold , What does that means exactly ? If they control one key and we control one key ... Let's say we are safe ,what if they get hacked I know funds won't be moved because it need our confirmation but we can't spend our Bitcoins either can we ? if the private keys on the Server-side was damaged or lost  Huh please explain and tell me if im missing something maybe

1192  Economy / Economics / Bitcoin , IRS , Tax evasion ? on: July 22, 2015, 10:33:10 AM
Speak about your self and on your country , can Bitcoin be used to make Tax evasion and how is that ?  Open discussion thread . For me I know it's possible because on Algeria they don't even knwo what Bitcoin is , so I guess it's possible however I don 't have bills or taxes to pay , just a simple teenager so the moment I don't have to care about this .

Because I was reading this article on Forbes : http://www.forbes.com/sites/robertwood/2013/05/05/sorry-bitcoin-irs-gets-reports/
and not sure what it means to be honest , I guess taxes don't work same way worldwide . I mean how they will know if you have BTC or not ?
1193  Economy / Service Discussion / BitPlutos.com - Legit or scam ? on: July 21, 2015, 09:49:43 PM
Most of us know the famous website Cointelegraph , for those who don't know it's basically just like Coindesk just with more creativity on the content : http://cointelegraph.com/

I was reading an article about WikiLeaks today there and I saw the banner about this "BitPlutos" on the Top and also on the right on the page if you are reading an article . I want to know if this is a legit company ? I'am not sure if Cointelegraph checked the content or tried the website before because when you click you get their affiliate link : http://www.bitplutos.com/?campaign=6&btag=cointelegraphmainpage

So who ever used this , could please advice me and let the community know how legit this website is Smiley

1196  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / - A Mining Newbie looking for answers - on: July 15, 2015, 05:26:15 PM
I never got into mining and I never got interessted on it but this time I was watching this Bitcoin Documentary called "The Bitcoin Phenomenon" and I heard Gavin saying that he used to mine before using his old Laptop and it worked (I'd assume it's not working anymore)

I see a lot of stuff called ANTMINER S2 S3 S4 S5 and stuff , I will also assume that those are used for Mining , correct me if I'am wrong ? I want to know how much do they cost and how much time is needed to earn x BTC and to get back what I invested on them .

I know there is different Hardwares or whatever their names is , so feel fre eto give the different pricing etc ...
Note that Pricing here is about :  0.05$ / kw AFAIK .

So how the bitcoin price is calculated exactly , yes Supply and demand but how ?? I mean at the beggining I'am pretty sure there wasen't any exchange and now there is a lot ... but even if exchange I don't see how a lot of exchange have the same price :/ pretty sure I'am missing something here

1199  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What if people stop running nodes ? on: July 14, 2015, 11:20:14 AM
I'am not sure what "protecting" network means when we run nodes . but what if people stop running nodes what exactly going to happen ?
Shouldn't we be worried about this ? Blockchain size is getting bigger and bigger and people will get bored with time and most likely switch to other wallets , how that will affect to Bitcoin and what can we do about it ?
1200  Economy / Trading Discussion / How to Buy Bitcoin using Neteller ? on: July 13, 2015, 11:30:47 AM
Since I say that a lot of people here on the currency exchange don't accept Payoneer or don't even know what Payoneer is , I made a Neteller account and I deposited money from my Payoneer to my Neteller but still .. I'am struggling to find someone to trade with me . most of people are buying bitcoins just like me :/

So is there is any website that I could do this fast and good rates ? (I don't like Localbitcoins)
