861  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] DERO FIRST SSL BLOCKCHAIN: CryptoNote Privacy + Smart Contracts on: April 04, 2018, 10:58:03 AM
Looks like you'r not understanding what I'm saying... I don't want to see the source code, I want it to be free software.

I let Dero team work, fo course. But still I can talk about things which I don't see correct neither smart.

You wrote this:

It's few developers cause they are NOT releasing the code as free software. That makes a crypto project weak and with high probability of failure.
...

What part of "releasing the code as free software" do you think I misunderstood?
862  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] DERO FIRST SSL BLOCKCHAIN: CryptoNote Privacy + Smart Contracts on: April 04, 2018, 12:04:35 AM
...
Again... if the project is free software and administrated as an open project, it'd receive the participation of other developers and it might create an ecosystem around it.

This is a valid point, but it stills begs the question: WHY do YOU need to see the source code NOW? Can you not wait a few weeks? If not, then why not? I'm an EE and have had my work stolen/copied, so I tend to take a dim view of people that demand to see the intellectual property of others for no damn good reason, and you have not presented even a half-baked reason, much less a damn good one, why YOU are entitled to it.

So chill out and let the DERO team do what they do. So far they've been doing a helluva job, and I'm inclined to let them keep on keeping on.

863  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] DERO FIRST SSL BLOCKCHAIN: CryptoNote Privacy + Smart Contracts on: April 03, 2018, 11:36:47 PM
That is horrible IMHO. This license is completelly not free software.

Looking at your post history I see virtually no activity between 2014 and now, so it seems more than a bit unusual for you to suddenly show up in the DERO ANN thread and start mouthing off like this. I'm one of the toughest customers around but even I'm finding your self-affront here massively overdone.

So what's your point? I'm kind of someone who wants to destroy Dero?

I thought my implied point was clear - you haven't been participating in this thread UNTIL NOW. Your butthurt seems disingenuous, in other words.

I'm mining Dero and I love the project (so much that I've come back to bitcointalk after so many time).

So you say, but you also could have bought an old account to get more from sig campaigns and bounties without having to earn pesky merit...

I was very enthusiastic until I read the License... which I'm blaming cause it's a very bad idea, on my point of view. I want Dero surviving and strong in the long term, not abandoned cause the community has not taked ii.

Again with the butthurt. I have not always been a fan of CaptDero's terse and oblique ways - and I still call him out on it when appropriate now - but I also recognize that there is a small team behind DERO doing a tremendous amount of work. Why not give them a few more weeks or so to prove themselves worthy of our commitment rather than lambast them within days of releasing a complete rewrite of their blockchain?

The source code will be released soon

I downloaded from http://seeds.dero.io/alpha/ the wallet supports: dero_windows_amd64.zip and dero_windows_x86.zip, (no matter). Up to now, I have already (existing) DERO wallet which is not synchronized anymore. When I run, for example, dero-wallet-cli-windows-amd64.exe, then after "open existing wallet" option, I was asked about the wallet filename (default wallet.db). Unfortunately, I don't find the wallet.db file anywhere in my previous user-friendly skin DeroWallet_Win64_v0.0.3 folder.

Does it mean that, unfortunately, I completely lost all coins what I have in the previous wallet and I have to create a new fresh wallet in a new command-line skin? Or I can somehow recover and return my previous mining founds?

You need to select the option, "recover wallet using recovery seed (25 words)" from the wallet-cli menu. You should have written down your 25 word recovery seed when you first created your wallet using the old wallet-cli, but if you didn't there is a command to get the seed from it (I don't remember the exact command and I already deleted the old wallet-cli).

See my previous post where I went through much the same thing as you: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2525508.msg33402693#msg33402693

866  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: April 03, 2018, 12:32:43 PM
I just did some due diligence on RavenCoin and all I can say is, best of luck to you all mining it, because it looks like a train wreck to me. Two different ANN threads with lots of infighting, questionable mining software, and the coin itself doesn't really seem any different from any other random shitaltcoin. I'm going to stick to DERO, ZEN & ITNS. And MUSIC!

EDIT - this sounds a bit harsh/combative upon re-reading it, and that's not the intended spirit; rather, I'd very much like to hear the counterarguments in favor of RVN, because from my (admittedly jaundiced/cynical) perspective it only seems have the support of the CEO of Overstock.com who is, let's say, a rather colorful character (or a crackpot, if you prefer).

867  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] DERO FIRST SSL BLOCKCHAIN: CryptoNote Privacy + Smart Contracts on: April 03, 2018, 10:33:17 AM

Hmm, well, it's a very official sounding statement, I'll give you that. A bit light on some of what I would consider to be essential details starting with what is a network attack? I'm guessing it's not NiceHash, so perhaps an array of ASIC miners coming online on a private pool or even running solo? As the old tabloid slogan goes, "Enquiring* minds want to know!"

868  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] INTENSE COIN - Blockchain backed decentralized VPN - Hybrid PoW on: April 03, 2018, 10:26:42 AM
What is there to like about it being called Intense Coin? How does that even remotely give thought that one is buying/mining/using a VPN coin? It's like they picked a random placeholder word out of the dictionary and just ran with it.
Intense coin makes it sound like I'm about to buy some coins to pay for a lap dance or a roller coaster ride (etc).

I can understand why this would feel this way. We are currently working on re-branding our project to have a more fitting name Smiley.

Plagiarism results in banning here and there is a specific thread to report copy/paste posts: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2855895

It helps to also provide links to both the original post that was copied, as well as the copy. Or just report the copied post to the moderator, though that may take a bit longer to get processed.

869  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][TZC] TrezarCoin Super-Secure-PoW/PoS on: April 03, 2018, 10:20:54 AM
You missed a couple of things in this explanation for Windows users...

Second is that the new wallet is tagged as a trojan by Windows Defender (Fuery.a!cl) but this is almost certainly a false positive (or, I should say, it better be) so this file needs to be excluded from scanning....

No its %appdata%/TrezarCoin, to be completely precise. Try it out and type %appdata% in your directory-search.

Thanks for explaining this with the Windows-Defender. - We have already improved the false-positives with virustotal, still WindowsDefender doesnt like it. - Virustotal shows 0/64.

Huh, in all my years I never once tried the command "cd %appdata%" but it does, indeed, change to c:\users\<username>\appdata\Roaming! I edited my post to correct my mistake.

As for Windows Defender, I have had to exclude all mining programs and most wallets from it over the last 2 months as every definition update seems to target mining more and more. The conspiracy theorist in me suspects this is because lots of mining rigs running Win10 don't bother activating it...  Roll Eyes

Speaking of the new wallet, I see it still displays the same cryptic data on staking (# of inputs, # of coin days, # inputs min age, etc) rather than provide a more human-friendly estimate of the time (or range of time) to receive a block reward from PoS. Are there any plans to change this behavior, because PoS is a core feature of TZC, yet it seems to be treated like the proverbial red-headed stepchild?

870  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][TZC] TrezarCoin Super-Secure-PoW/PoS on: April 02, 2018, 10:47:10 PM
Yeah its now trying to get the information out of the %appdata%/TrezarCoin Folder instead of the /Data folder next to the trezarcoin-qt.exe. So you need to copy everything which is inside of your /Data folder into the %appdata%/TrezarCoin Folder.
...

You missed a couple of things in this explanation for Windows users. First is that the new TrezarCoin data folder is located under %appdata%\Roaming, not just %appdata%, and it is, of course, called TrezarCoin, rather than data. To speed things along, copy the existing data subdirectory to c:\users\<username>\appdata\Roaming\ and then rename it TrezarCoin BEFORE running the new wallet program.

Second is that the new wallet is tagged as a trojan by Windows Defender (Fuery.a!cl) but this is almost certainly a false positive (or, I should say, it better be) so this file needs to be excluded from scanning. For those who have not done this before it's fairly simple but you have to dig deep. First open Windows Defender (either via Settings or the up-arrow in the right side of the tray), then click on the "Virus & Threat Protection" shield, then scroll down and click on "Virus & Threat Protection Settings," then scroll down and click on "Add or remove exclusions" to add the file or folder you want to exclude from scanning. Practically speaking, you'll likely have to add your Downloads folder to the exclusion list as well, even though that almost entirely defeats the purpose of having anti-virus software in the first place. M$ fails yet again, is all I can say.

EDIT - I learned something new: "cd %appdata%" does, indeed, go to c:\users\<username>\appdata\roaming, and not just the appdata parent directory! So I struck out the incorrect text above.
871  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: April 02, 2018, 11:52:01 AM
EDIT: Calling it for the night, could not get sgminer to launch properly on Windows for the life of me. Kept saying sgminer.exe isn't a recognized command, or something or other, to late tonight, try again tomorrow

Code:
[b]C:\Windows\system32>[/b]sgminer.exe -k x16r -o stratum+tcp://miningpanda.site:3666 -u RTpXMvaesBGfDCc6whzu2GoxzMJuvBGSJL -p x --gpu-platform 1 -I 18
'sgminer.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

This is most likely because sgminer isn't located in the c:\windows\system32 directory (nor should it be); change to the directory where you put sgminer.exe and then try running it.  Wink

So, what is that f in your opinion? i would love to know  Grin

Before you ask me, for me, it could be :
1. False
2. Fellow
3. Fun
4. Fate
5. F***Huh

@TheQuin?

I can't find the post, but I distinctly recall reading that fmerit is awarded each time you "complain" about merit. By a process of April 1st deduction, that eliminates 4 out of 5 of your choices.  Grin

Please and thank you sir!

Ш use fauset for a two weeks and no one coin drop in my wallet...

Oh, boohoo... an ancient AMD FX-8320 mines about 4500 TRTL per day. Quit whining and start mining!

Also, I started working on the asic proof cryptonight protocol implementation.

I'm currently facing 2 choices :[/center]

  • Cryptonight V7 - monero - this is mainly a tweak of the current algorithm and asic can be rebuild to adapt on it. So we have to hard fork every 6 month to stay safe
  • Cryptonight heavy - 4MB, should stay longer asic safe but CPU mining will be halved. Also webminers and botnet should be half out too...

Here is some reading to understand the differences : https://github.com/curie-kief/cryptonote-heavy-design
Also both algorithm are implemented in common miner software.

With heavy heart I vote for heavy, but it is a really close call. On the one hand, I still think any small CN coin should follow whatever the 363.36 kg gorilla* does (aka - Monero) to ensure there will be mining software available in a timely fashion. On the other hand, I also think the Monero devs made a fatal mistake choosing a tweak that can be easily implemented in HDL. Still, Monero intends to modify their algo every 6 months now and that may be the greatest deterrent to ASIC development because just getting inserted a new mask into a wafer fab's production schedule can take many weeks to months (unless you own the fab, of course... which, fortunately, none of these jokers do).

Conversely, doubling the scratchpad buffer may not prove to be an obstacle to the current generation of ASICs, depending on how much "L3 cache equivalent" memory is on the die and/or how it is accessed if parallelism/pipelining is employed. Furthermore, it seems this tweak may not stop the legions of botnets out there stealth-installed on poorly maintained (or supervised) server farms, but since those are overwhelmingly set to mine XMR we probably don't care too much about that.

So, tough call, really.

* - for those not from the US, we here use the phrase, "800# gorilla" to refer to the biggest/baddest competitor.
875  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][TZC] TrezarCoin Super-Secure-PoW/PoS on: March 31, 2018, 11:01:06 PM
Sorry that wasn't clear - I meant PoW mining on a pool. When I posted this earlier it had not yet been a full 48 hours since I received the mining payment of 100.46 TZC; now slightly more than 48 hours have passed and my coin weight has finally started increasing (and inputs are 149, which is what I expected to see given I received one more payment).

Not a big deal, but my understanding is that new coins are added to your coin weight after 1 full day has passed, not 2. Hence why I posted this.

I don't know if you've mentioned before, but are you running a trezarcoin.conf (what is often just referred to as the conf file)?
Until the next wallet update (soon I believe), without a conf the default time-to-stake-eligible-maturity is over 24 hours.

Well, at least it wasn't a PoS-context question.
My answer to that was a lot more detailed/complicated.  Grin

Nope, I have not made nor have a trezarcoin.conf file. I've seen a few references to such, but no official documentation explaining it. I guess I am one of the few people on the planet that actually RTFM's so the lack of a manual to read is both liberating - I can't possibly be blamed for not doing things correctly - but also frustrating; more so, that, really.

However, it looks like @Chekaz is about to release a new wallet that will render this discussion moot; or, at least, actually create a .conf file.

Thanks for your help once again; your tireless devotion is one of the reasons why I keep mining this coin even though the whole market appears to have taken way too much GHB and is now puking itself into oblivion...  Tongue

876  Other / Meta / Re: RANK & MERIT-BASED Signature Campaigns (an attempt) on: March 31, 2018, 10:52:09 PM
Like @TMAN, I also think your numbers are a little off, but in a different direction. It takes 10 merit to be a member and that gets you 15 base stakes, while it takes 100 merit to be a full member but that only gets you 30 base stakes. If the idea is to not unduly reward people who attained their rank by merely registering earlier and (shit or not) posting frequently then a better approach would be to increase the bonus from awarded merit as you go up in rank.

NB - I was contemplating a similar idea, but you beat me to the punch and, well, I can admit you did a better job of presenting your idea than I would have done. So you win by default, without even knowing there was a match on!  Tongue

877  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] DERO BLOCKCHAIN: CryptoNote Privacy + Smart Contracts on: March 31, 2018, 11:05:52 AM
Understand! Smiley
Maybe Coinmarketcap?

Why are you in such a hurry to get DERO listed on bigger exchanges and coinmarketcap? Have you not noticed crypto is currently in the midst of a bear market right now? New companies pull their IPOs when the stock market is in bear/correction mode; the same strategy should be employed by new cryptos.

For an object lesson in what happens if you worry too much about getting listed on exchanges rather than developing your core technology look no further than Intensecoin (ITNS) which intends to make paying for a VPN service private. All cryptos are down a huge amount right now, but the drop is ITNS is breathtaking: it reached a peak of $0.09US on JAN-10 and now is $0.004, which is a 23x reduction in price. In contrast, the peak of $2.91US that DERO saw around the same time (which was the peak for most altcoins) was not real because DERO couldn't actually be traded - it was one of many times that stocks.exchange was not working - but even allowing $2.91 to stand the current price of $0.44 is about a 7x reduction. The peak price of DERO when it could actually be traded is closer to $0.75, which means the current price is a rather less dramatic ~2x reduction compared to the real peak.

To paraphrase an ancient Chinese curse: be careful what you wish for; you just might get it.

So, a couple of days ago I received another 100 TZC from mining but the weight and number of inputs reported in the Penrose triangle haven't changed (14855 and 148, respectively). I checked github to see if I missed a wallet update, but it's still the same version from 14-SEP-2017.

Nebulous and mercurial, this.

Are you saying you mined another 100 TZC from PoW mining (solo or pool), or that you mined 100 TZC from a PoS block?
I was a paragraph-deep into offering an explanation from the latter perspective when I realized that you may have meant PoW mined.

Please let me know which so that I can avoid posting information that will end up being useless.  Smiley

So, not really sure what is going on here, but I can confirm that manually selecting paste from the right-click menu in the title bar does, indeed, paste text into both the password and recovery seed prompts in the wallet.
...

Excellent, happy it helped! Even happier not to be on the receiving end of a snappy response  Tongue

Aww, come on - snappy responses make life more interesting!

That said, thinking on this some more I wonder if the wrong console library was used to compile the new wallet, because copy-n-paste works exactly as it did back in Windows 7... Unfortunately I am an EE by profession, and my knowledge of C/C++ extends just past my ability to spell them correctly.

EDIT - coinwebmining reported for spamming/violation of this rule: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=718124.0
