221  Other / Meta / Re: Merit system causes more SPAM not less on: September 16, 2018, 10:39:45 PM
I generally don't give out merits to anyone who has a lot of bounty and airdrop reports in their history, but the OP seems to be making an effort to improve his post quality and people have been especially generous to me the last few days as I reached and crossed 100 merits so I'm spreading the love around.

However, if the OP goes back to his shameful, bounty-loving ways then you can bet I won't make the same mistake twice.

What's wrong with a man having a lot of bounty reports in history? If he writes some useful post that you like, you still won't let him merit because there are a lot of bounty reports in his message history?

I'm free to use my merits in any damn way I feel like... yougottaproblemwiththat?

222  Other / Meta / Re: Merit system causes more SPAM not less on: September 16, 2018, 09:38:46 PM
Are you sure you read all of his posting history?
Look at this page, all the proof of joining airdrops and bounties:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1041404;sa=showPosts;start=120
Of course, I also admit that the quality of his post has gradually improved, so I think that as long as he insists on doing so, he can still improve the rank.

223  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: September 16, 2018, 06:41:07 PM
You guys know what made me stop loading up on GPUs sometime in Dec 2017-Jan 2018?

It was when I saw a Reddit post or some news article about some TESLA owner basically parking his car at a TESLA charging station and he had like 5-6 GPUs in there, mining away. Seeing that made me very fearful about the future of mining...

Found the article

https://hardware.slashdot.org/story/17/11/28/2148257/tesla-owners-are-mining-bitcoins-with-free-power-from-charging-stations

Holy smokes! My bubble-sense was already bursting* but if I had seen that article I would have definitely cashed out of everything!  Grin

224  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: REBGLO is a free energy/overunity scam on: September 16, 2018, 06:35:21 PM
The ANN thread has disappeared. Anyone have an archive?

Crap... This was my first scam report and I didn't think to archive it, but it looks like the OP must have deleted the topic because the modlog shows several of the replies were deleted much earlier today, but not the topic itself.

Search for 5018388 in the modlog to see: https://bitcointalk.org/modlog.php

225  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos, can we do something for you?? on: September 16, 2018, 04:02:28 PM
...
Everywhere who cares about the forum, comes and says that theymos doesn't do this or that: Just imagine for an admin, who's given an unasked responsibility , who hardly has time, has trust issues for various reasons, and other things comes to his forum to read what's going on and all he sees is: theymos said this or that, and on top of that complaining about it, its just too much handle for one fucking person.
...

Sorry, iasenko - you've done some excellent work here and I appreciate your motivation to, "be the change you wish to see in the world," to use a tired old cliche, but I have to agree with pugman on this. Any change that requires more time from theymos is likely not going to fly. Any change that reduces forum traffic also seems unlikely to pass muster, even though I mostly agree with hilariousandco/etc's suggestion to do away with signatures for newbies and Jr members (I'd merely get rid of sigs for newbies and allow Jr.'s to have what is currently allowed for newbies - something like 50 characters of unformatted text or whatever it is).

That said, I like reporting shitposts, spam and plagiarism, even though my 220+ reports and counting are metaphorically equivalent to trying to put out a raging inferno with a garden hose. I think many of us who report posts do it for the therapeutic value, and not just for the good of the forum (and that, btw, is the key to making effective incentive structures...).

226  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POOL] ZERGPOOL.com - NEW!Multialgo, autoexchange, 0.5% fee, 180+ coins on: September 16, 2018, 03:39:23 PM
Well, trading is another topic there, so many possibilities etc.  From my end I can only confirm it works straight forward, we just sell coins to support turnover and every 12h payment schedule. I mean, I have no time to dance with 300 coins on exchanges.

Oh, I wasn't saying you were intentionally doing something shady, just that pools like yours suck in general because the whole idea behind them is fatally flawed. If the only coins you offered were large and liquid - as fr4nkthetank pointed out - then this type of pool would make more sense, but if each algo you support has one or more shitcoins that are ridiculously prone to pump-n-dump (or the so-called "chainsaw difficulty attack") then profitability gets thrown out the window.

This is likely why there are so many complaints about steep drops in payout amount happening many hours to days after the fact. Consequently, my advice to those that don't have any particularly coin they are interested in but whose electricity cost is low enough that their rigs should be mining something is to point their rigs at Nicehash.

227  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: REBGLO is a free energy/overunity scam on: September 16, 2018, 01:44:53 PM
I'm an EE - specializing in power conversion, no less - and this is flat out impossible/bogus/a scam.
I'm not an engineer, but I'm familiar with the laws of thermodynamics and I certainly know you can't get energy from nowhere.  However, isn't this project just saying it improves battery life as opposed to keeping it perpetually charged?  It doesn't exactly sound like a perpetual motion/free energy scheme, but then again I'm just going by what was written in your description.

I'm not inclined to argue about it, since it probably IS a scam given how many of these things turn out to be exactly that.  I've also never heard of this type of technology, which if viable would seem to be a huge breakthrough and wouldn't be marketed like this.

Perfectly valid observation and questions. The "device" is described as sticker made of "conductive paper*" which when adhered to the back of *any* cell phone (or cryptocurrency mining rig!?) will capture energy from the air and somehow magically convey it into the battery/charging system of the phone. Without any wires or other power conversion circuitry. THAT is what is impossible.

Also, while there are myriad signals zipping through the air from satellites, power lines, cell phone towers, radio station transmitters, etc., you can't capture them without an LC** tank circuit tuned to resonate at a particular frequency. Of course, by tuning an LC tank to one frequency you necessarily exclude its ability to respond to others - this is precisely how wireless energy transfer systems work, btw.

Furthermore, there does exist a voltage differential in the atmosphere of around 100V/m on average, so a non-conductive 10m tall tower with an electrode at the top should have 1000V between the top electrode and ground... except that the available current is in the picoampere range (ie - billionths of an ampere), which puts the available power of even a 100m tower in the nanowatt range. Given that phones require 3-5W to operate on average, a few nW aren't going to amount to the proverbial hill of beans.

The average person is not going to understand enough electronics to spot the issues with REBGLO's claims, but since I do I felt it my duty to point them out.

* - there are silver and copper bearing inks that can be applied to paper to make it conductive, but since they cost way more per unit area and than a piece of aluminum foil, there's not much point using them.

** - an LC tank is formed whenever a loop is formed between an inductor and a capacitor, and exhibits resonance (or maximum energy storage capability) at a frequency of 1/(2*pi*(LC^0.5)).
228  Other / Meta / Re: [LOG] The ranked up members - Congratulations! on: September 16, 2018, 12:59:13 PM
My dearest congratulations on all the members who strived hard to achieve member rank.
...
I was ban in my first account due to plagiarism...

Strive hard to achieve some rank on a forum? Nah, I just participated as I normally do and lo-n-behold, I went from 0 to 100 marits [sic] in under 8 months. Now, what can I do with all those muhritz [sic]? Well, I can now wear an avatar!

Oh, and good job admitting to ban evasion, you numbnutz.

229  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Blacklist of paraphrasing sources of cryptocurrencies news on: September 16, 2018, 11:19:27 AM
Fantastic work, OP! There are some big names in your list of text-spinning plagiarizers, too: in particular, CNBC and ZDnet (oh, how the mighty have fallen).

230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ICO]HoweyCoins: the only BitcoinTalk-endorsed ICO - GUARANTEED PROFIT on: September 15, 2018, 09:45:58 PM
The U.S is backing this? Smells fishy?

There's 55 pages of replies - it has to be a legit project!

is there any need to swap old Intensecoin, or can they be used just as before, only with new wallet?

No swap required.

Vosk coin fan boy alert 😂

Not even close. In fact, I think this video - like pretty much all live streams - is unwatchable.
233  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: REBGLO is a free energy/overunity scam on: September 15, 2018, 01:33:52 PM
I'm an EE - specializing in power conversion, no less - and this is flat out impossible/bogus/a scam.
You're no God though? I mean just because you think some technology is not possible doesn't mean it can't be achieved by someone else? You're not Nikola Tesla, are you? A lot of scientists said the same thing when he tried that wireless transfer of the electricity. I'm not an EE but the point is, you gotta talk to the team and see if they can counter your arguments. Moreover, 999.9% of the ICO's never make past the white-papers. Technically, all of them are a scam.

So I need to either be (a) god or Tesla to be able to call an electronic device impossible/a scam? Whereas you - who aren't even an EE, much less a god or Tesla - are perfectly capable of dismissing my assessment?

Sounds legit...

I'm observing a strange phenomenon with the wallet.
...

I started up the v2.0.2.1.1 CLI wallet yesterday and it got all caught up from being ~2 weeks behind within an hour or so and without any special sync nodes specified.

From the "Why the rank does not grow" [sic] thread:

...You just need to improve the quality of their messages and do not write any nonsense, kotoroy on the forum and so the blockage.  ...

I like to put on my kotoroy pants and go dances at the discos.

236  Economy / Scam Accusations / REBGLO is a free energy/overunity scam on: September 15, 2018, 11:52:24 AM
See complete ANN thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5018388.0

Relevant excerpt from said ANN:

...
Our Hettarer,  first conceived in Japan, makes use of conductive paper that collects charged particles from electric currents occurring naturally from the air as well as the device. By simply sticking the HETTARER sticker on the back of your phone, it improves the overall battery performance by 20-40 per cent. HETTARER not only improves battery performance, it also lowers the high frequency of electric devices by 90%! So it will greatly increase Crypto-mining efficiency if it is sticked on Crypto-mining rigs!

Just an FYI:

Advertising spam is not allowed, this includes mining pools...

So xhomerx10 is right and I am going to start reporting pool adverts more often, rather than just the ones I find particularly annoying because they show up on every page of an ANN thread.

238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Should You Mine / Buy Bitcoin Interest BCI ? (Implemented ProgPoW) PoW+PoS on: September 15, 2018, 10:16:21 AM
...how about getting back to what matters with mining instead of going for YouTube views, fucking sell out!!
...

It seems there is always a Communist in the comment section. Tell me, young Commie-radical, did you ever donate money to Vosk's channel to help cover his expenses? If not, then you are part of the reason he had to resort to more "commercially relevant" topics; those YT videos don't get made for free, you know.

Oh wow, never know that John Titor has bitcointalk account.

I totally forgot about John Titor, but that is a classic piece of internet lore there!

Now you posting fast.
When someone ask you something that you think are bad for you and your pool - silence.

Lol, so true!

I don't mind the occasional advert from a pool operator, but some of them try to get their posts on every single page of an ANN thread which has the exact opposite effect they are intending; I won't support/use any product/service advertised with spam.
