Far more likely that someone is pretending to have the database and you just lost your account, rather than actually having the database and also using it to hack your account specifically.

Also, IIRC, the passwords are hashed with 7500 rounds of sha256crypt, and salted uniquely for each user. So even having the database does not make it much easier for someone to get a password.

Alright, so if I'm understanding what you're saying correctly, this is shown on the page to Merit Sources, and not to any other users?
If so, does this imply that all non-merit sources are allowed to sell their merit? That's still kinda concerning.

Also, "sell" is sketchy. I presume you can't directly pay people for goods and services. But, can you hold competitions where you give out merit to winners or users meeting some criteria? Can you frequently give merit to users when they help you in particular, rather than help other users, making it some sort of tacit assistance for merit?

I think users should generally be here for the discussion, and the merit system seems to slow the rate of rank advancement, and mainly stop users who are here just for that.

The fees for transaction might outweigh the actual amount. Bitcoinfees (https://bitcoinfees.info/) says that to get a transaction confirmed in an hour it costs $2.50 right now.

Other than that, you're still asking people to trust you with their money, and you don't have any trust yet... I'm sorry, but doing things intentionally to gain trust is generally frowned upon here.

I feel like a good deal of payment processors and merchants go by the route wherein the payment processor instantly converts the BTC to USD before paying the user.
This then eliminates the benefit of trustlessness anyways.

I guess if you assume merchants that are looking for payment methods wherein they keep the Bitcoin in the end, the trustless nature can "kinda" help. But if you already don't trust the payment processor, it seems like you would just set up your own system, especially if you're just having to listen to a single address, and not needing instant USD conversions as well.

(And as others have noted, the fee does not really add up when you consider the existence of bulk transactions)

I'm not quite sure what's going on either.

On the top of your screen, click the "Profile" button.
Then click the "Forum Profile Information" on the left side of the screen.
You should see a "Signature" field, put the signature you desire there, and then click the "Change Profile" button.

btcrecover or any method of brute-forcing your password just tries many different passwords, and it can only get a single success or failure result for each.
I repeat: It is impossible to "recover" one character of the password

The opposite direction works though:
If you remember some letters, maybe a couple, maybe even if you're not sure of their positions, it can help you speed up btcrecover a lot.

We already have issues with block-size in Bitcoin (ie: 1 MB block size limit, and controversy surrounding this).
Sending entire encoded images in this way sounds near impossible.

You might want to look at something like Storj though. It is a decentralized storage platform, that is tied to a cryptocurrency.
It might be possible to translate decentralized storage into decentralized sharable storage.

If you'd like to keep this going past the point where you run out of sMerit, you could make something like a spreadsheet (or just modify OP) where you could keep a list of undermerited posts.
Other users could then come in and merit the posts on the list if they agreed with your evaluation, and then you could remove them from the spreadsheet.

The merit system or ranking up as an argument? Laughable.
The only benefit a higher rank seems to get you is usually signature campaigns here.
The posting interval restriction becomes meaningless by the time you're a Jr. Member or Member.... So... why would you leave because of the ranking system?

You can't get negative merits as far as I know, you can only gain merit.
This has been put forward as a method of increasing post quality, not of requiring you to have friends. ie: posts that contribute should tend to get merit, and the merit system should force you to contribute before you rank up.
