421  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitcoin/Litecoin FPGA question for project on: December 29, 2012, 10:46:42 PM
Looking at this thread, and also at the protocol discussion going on over on BFL forums, I sense the need for a single standard open protocol that can be used for all communication between host-side miner software, and external miner devices (FPGAs, ASICs, etc).

Once hashed out (pun intended), a standard set of libraries could be made and maintained that implemented the protocol in popular languages (C, Java, Python, Ruby, what-have-you), with proper unit tests and all.

There could even be a standards body formed, that would issue certifications of conformity to specific devices running specific firmwares, for those vendors who desired such a thing, and issue cute holographic stickers displaying the certified product's name and firmware hash.

If only someone who wasn't me would head up the effort...
I think Luke-Jr was working on something like this with seven.

It would be possible to know which is the manufacturing cost of a single integrated?
+1

How does it cost to produce an ASIC chip once the design is all done?

In the case of Avalon: $4000-5000 per wafer, 4055 chips per wafer, $1/chip: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=120184.msg1402474#msg1402474

Must be without packaging?

www.proofofstake.com seems to have stopped showing difficulty and mint/day.

How will a hard fork affect wallet balances?

The sadness here is how they've led our community astray just to achieve a monopoly in "gold pan" business. Hopefully many remember what happened in Klondike, and how profits were distributed between miners vs mining supplies salesmen.

so ASICMiner's goal is to break 50% of hashing power?
428  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Development Status [Batch #1] on: December 15, 2012, 09:03:26 PM
In the BFL tradition...  Can you please prove you have a hat?  I would like to see pictures of your working prototype hat if you do not yet have the final hat design.
That would give out too much valuable information to other people claiming to have hats.

I remember seeing a picture of a tin-foil hat someplace, but I think it was deleted.
It was a non-working dummy.

DiabloD3, as much as I dislike BFL, luke-jr actually postponed their shipping date from dec 2012 to jan 2013. He quoted ngazhang with Avalons shipping date. And I agree with him that as long as ASICMiner is not offering any consumer-products, it doesn't go on to that page.

I suggest you wear your mod-hat with ice inside it, as you must remain objective when moderating. Calling luke-jr a BFL shill in a pinned topic is a bit harsh, and just shows poor judgement as everyone know how much you loathe BFL.

Look at the entire changelog. He removed ASICMINER completely from the wiki.

As I already said,  I agree with luke-jr that as long as ASICMiner is not offering any consumer-products, it doesn't belong on that page.

432  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: bASIC's supposed renders are stolen from another site on: December 12, 2012, 09:35:30 PM
That page is reselling BFL and Tom's boards and has taken pics from their respective sites. There's a crudely photshopped BFL Jally there as well. End of thread.
I don't see a 'shopped Jally anywhere. Their pre-order calls it a V4, and their newest update is Nov 30th, before Tom posted those renderings.

I assume this second batch of 50TH/s be distributed amongst the shareholders? What is the status with Nefario?
435  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Development Status [Batch #1] on: November 28, 2012, 11:18:04 AM
They just stated that the demo unit will be ready around new year. It seems they're doing a shared wafer run (hence the small number of chips/batch). This is the cheapest and only way of creating a working ASIC prototype and also the right thing to do in general. Looking good for team Avalon. If they get it right on their first try, I doubt they'll be missing deadlines. If not, at least they haven't burned shitloads of money on a garbage mask-set.

I'm still having issues with US2 using stratum. Shares are going to pool, but stats aren't showing it.
437  Other / Off-topic / Re: Butterfly Labs November Update (ASIC Chips are "flawed". Delays.) on: November 27, 2012, 05:24:36 PM
They have stated that the refund/ship-by date is January 1st.  They never guaranteed a shipment prior to this date, only said it was possible.

Does US consumer protection law not apply to BFL?
I do not understand your problem?
Until now, BFL has refunded allways the full amount, if someone has canceled his order!
So, cancel your order and stop the crap
Apparently there are some problems with refunds: https://forums.butterflylabs.com/pre-sales-questions/441-refund-not-getting-processed.html

Re-spin will take ~5 weeks if there's no queue at the fab
440  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL Requests Input on: November 26, 2012, 10:00:47 PM
So BFL initiated this over two months ago, and a date haven't even been set? Dudes, come on!

Probably another 4-6 weeks...
