501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 27, 2014, 08:53:33 PM
Question to the pro's here:

How much nxt do I reasonably need for forging? I am a bit confused. My estimated block generation time always changes with every new block...

100k+ NXT or so in my view (which is still very inconsistent to calculate consistent return).

Don't view forging as something where you will make load of NXT on. View it as helping secure the network. Same thing will happen when any bitcoin-like crypto reaches their max supply cap where they have to help secure the network and get paid in transaction fee's. I view forging blocks like winning a very tiny lottery until we have more transactions happening often.

If you have a low amount of NXT I would suggest joining nxtio.org (forging pool) and send your NXT there to forge if you want to have satisfaction of an increasing NXT amount(although very very tiny increase). Unless we ever getting leased forging method.

NXT total amount of NXT has decreased from the current supply on the site.

http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=3000&acc=1739068987193023818 (genesis account)

currently states -999,997,104 which means 999,997,104 is the new total supply.

Hey guys,

I am one of the admins of AltCoins Market. It's a new website about cryptocoins where you can see instantly all the information about your coins. We want to add NxT to our website but we need a blockchain where I can get the total coins mined (forged in this case) so we can calculate the market cap and the USD value. Do you know any site where I could get it using json? It would be nice to have it.

Thank you in advance and I hope you like AltCoins Market!

Hello tyme,

All the NXT coins that will ever be created are in existence right now (and have been since the network launced). That number is - 999,997,104 NXT coins (from here http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=3000&acc=1739068987193023818). Here is a link to a NXT Block explorer anyway - http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=1.

Regards,
Al

NXT started with 1 billion NXT. But there were person(s) that sent NXT to the genesis account. http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=3000&acc=1739068987193023818 to destroy a few NXT.

Can we not change from a blockchain to a blocktree?

A recently written paper suggested if Bitcoin turned to this approach the transaction times could be reduced to less than 10 seconds, if i recall correctly.

like eMunie then? Also wonder if this would be possible to do in NXT or does what NXT have is better?

what a blocktree is

http://ecoinomist.com/emunie-block-tree-transaction-chain-infographic

Quote
eMunie now uses multiple chains, think of the ledger as more of a block tree, than a block chain. There may be many 1000′s of small, interconnected chains, all holding valid transactions, and all able to validate transactions across other chain sections.

“Forks“, or new chains in eMunie are good, they strengthen the system and make a 51% attack impractical if not nigh on impossible, as there are so many chains, taking them all over is difficult. Transactions are signed and verified in multiple blocks, with many “hatchers” (or miners as is the lingo here) in the system verifying the same transaction over and over and including a reference to that transaction in many blocks, within many chains.

Double spends are EXTREMELY difficult with eMunie, as the system favors a rolling balance over a “transaction in/out” method such as Bitcoin. As soon as you create a transaction, that transaction is distributed to the network as an intention, and it is logged. All nodes now know about this intended transaction and will include it in any subsequent balance calculation should they need it.

Upon the transaction clearing, that transaction is included in 1 or many blocks, and your rolling balance will calculate to the same as when performed using the transaction intention.

I want to believe in NXT but following these threads makes me think there's a good chance I've dumped a good deal of money in the toilet. And yeah yeah, I'm just another speculator so who cares about me, but it's thousands of people like me who will make NXT a success or not. Dismiss us all you want but for NXT to be a success you do need us. Consider me a representative sample.

I'm right there with you.

But one thing is for sure - this is a community that is chomping at the bit to make NXT work, and work right as the revolutionary invention it can be, not just make money off or it.

One way or another things are going to be very different in six weeks.  CfB will be gone, the complete source code will be out (hopefully, and with or without comments) and we can take inventory on which of the original devs (if any, including BCNext himself) wants to stick around for Phase 2 of NXT.  And we WILL get a team together, and we WILL understand this code even if we have to reverse engineer line by line as some kind of alien tech we found in a UFO crash, and we WILL go to da moon.

CfB and BCNext are good, smart men who have my respect.  But even as my confusion grows from their cryptic words, my faith in this NXT community also grows because of the tangible acts I see it perform.

Acts will persevere over words.  Wait and see.

jean-luc said something about releasing the code earlier to attract developers. Perhaps we should do this. His suggested date was march 1st. This will give us (well, not me) time to review the code, add comments, etc... Meanwhile CFB is still working for us and it gives us time to adapt to him leaving. It could also just be released to a smaller group of trusted individuals that will do a review, comment the code, etc..

Agree. I believe its in NXT best interest to at the least have Jean reveal the complete code sooner rather than later to select trusted individuals so that we can have some of the dedicated transition dev's know all the info they need of NXT after CfB, etc. are gone.

Not much a coder but from what I see not waiting to reveal the code would have much negativity on NXT especially if its for the transition team of devs.

eSport events usually aren't talked about much in magazines(that I know of) it's more "watch" worthy just to see how players play. If anything the term NXT has gotten into the knowledge of the viewers. League of Legends has kind of overtaken SC2 scene for now. Would have been great to have gotten TotalBuscuit, Husky, or Day9 to have called the game. Don't really know Madals much.

You can watch the games any time too on YouTube.

Does the NRS have plans for an auto-update feature in the future? So we don't get nodes a few versions behind the latest one?

Maybe like a pop-up or some scrolling text somewhere that states "an update is available" or something along those lines.

It was planned at the beginning but it might not be anymore...

Yeah I remember the talk from before...

Sad ...

I just was asking since I remember seeing that there was someone still on NRS 0.4.* and got people on 0.7.5/0.7.6/0.8.0e/etc. this morning on the active nodes...

Beware of centralization.

Yeah...auto-update: everyone gets the same bug at the same time.

doesn't even have to be an automatic-update just something to inform people an update is available. People could then decide to use it or wait but at least know an update is out there.

Like how on the top of btt forums it says "News: Bitcoin 0.8.6 is now available. Download. (https://bitcoin.org/bin/0.8.6/)" Something like that. Not everyone uses the Bitcoin-qt(I use Mulitibit) but for the people that do they show an update is out to download.

As I remember from the beginning

Well, guys. Here are some Best practices:

1. Do NOT use very old versions. "0.2.3" can include expired transactions into blocks, which will never be accepted by "0.2.9" leading to independent forks.
2. Do NOT set very short deadline. If a blockchain reorganization happens expired transactions won't be included into blocks.
3. Do NOT send the same transactions twice. The network is fragmented and ur node can lose a message with ur transaction (it's processed only if sent back), but it still can be visible by other nodes. Resend the transaction only if it's not confirmed and expired.

And don't forget what CONFIRMATION are for. 10 confirmations ~ 1 Bitcoin confirmation. Blockchain reorg can happen up to 720 blocks back. If u receive big amounts it's better to check the coins are on ur balance after 720 confirmations.

which is why I always thought by the mindset of its best to be on the latest NRS.

Hey Guys,

this is Version 2 of my logo Smiley

as usual feel free to use, share & modify!

-> blue
-> white

-> blue
-> white
[/center]

feedback appreciated!
btw, Im still undecided on the color scheme.
maybe the "learn more"-button color is a good choice.

It's cool, but I don't know about the "M." Seems a but unclear to me. If I didn't know what NEM was, I'm not sure I'd be able to differentiate letters on a quick glance.

reminds me of the Target Company logo. Still looks nice though  Smiley

Don't forget, we just blew something like 2-3 BTC on MintPal and they then turned around and said: "Sorry , we don't understand NXT, how about some nice TeslaCoin instead? "

As I said, they need to refund the money

I wish us all the luck in the world with that, but won't hold my breath Smiley
Let's at least learn from the experience!

Agreed, but if they don't repay I say we spam all over that they stole from us and is utterly incompetent for not even being able to put NXT on their exchange like so many other exchanges.

If anyone wants to pm a Mintpal admin directly.

Mintpal-Jay who posts on the Mintcoin board frequently is one of them. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=238724

Is https://nxt-e.com/ fully functional now?

If yes, people need to support the site by buying selling on it.

I'm personally just worried about trusting the site...is the site legit? Huh

SSL-Error: SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. (ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)

is this part of the problem you have been having. Sorry not really a techy.

Quote
SSL can be enabled for both the API server and the UI server (default disabled).
If this is done, the corresponding ports will accept https requests only. There
is no way currently to have both http and https supported at the same time, but
this can be added, I just didn't see the need for it.
If you enable SSL, you need to set nxt.keyStorePath and nxt.keyStorePassword,
and obviously you need to have your own SSL certificate (self-signed or signed
by a CA) in a keystore file. I have only tested this with a self-signed
certificate.

How i can make a self-signed certificate? Some guide step to step?

Jean-Luc said that JDK has a key tool.

He mentioned Nxt again but he said Nxt is a layer on top of Bitcoin as Mastercoin which is not true. So he knows that development is going on but I think he has not gotten in depth.

It can't be BCNext because of this right? (This was an old post regarding Andreas)

How is going on the AE test? this is real markeeting, not speakers for freaks/geeks

who the fuck cares?

AE is not working that is why nobody talks about it.

That is soooo short sighted to say. I will talk about it. It will be worth it when it's ready. The guys working on it don't have time to talk as they have there ears to the grind stone. what you wanna talk about?

Don't worry about Emule...he's the NXT troll around these parts Wink
518  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bter Points BTR? What to do with them?? on: February 26, 2014, 05:13:09 PM
That is odd.
I did not get any points a few days ago for my trades either.
I hope it is temporary.  I like BTer because it supports some coins that don't get traded elsewhere.

Anybody know what happened bter points ? Some days ago trade disabled.  :-(

yup same. Maybe they are fixing the problems.

I QQ Message them and they stated it was only with CNY or BTC trades. But I had many trades that dealt with the two and was stuck at no Bter Points. Guess I wasn't the only one with problems.

Just talked to bittrex, they have only 86 signups from nxt at the moment..

You should all go and sign up.

Quote
Go to https://bittrex.com/Account/Register and use SUPPORT_NXT as the invite code. This gets you past the invite code queue. Place some trades, enabled 2FA, or try any of our other features to help us stress the site before the final launch. If you find a bug, we're handing out bug bounties as well. Having a great exchange helps us but also helps the NXT community.

Only 14 more needed to register with SUPPORT_NXT invite code to get to the 100 needed!!!

LET'S DO IT PEOPLE!!!
