1021  Economy / Games and rounds / BitcoinTalk's 2020 Champions League Pool Sign Up Thread £25 in bitcoin to join on: October 14, 2020, 01:27:09 PM
For the past few years I've organised betting pools for the English Premier League along with the Champions League and the World Cup and now I'm starting one for the upcoming Champions League which starts on the 20th of October.

We will be using the www.superbru.com website again for both tournaments where you get 3 points for predicting an exact score, 1 point for a correct outcome (win/lose/draw) and 1.5 for a close prediction with correct outcome.

To join the pool it will be around £25 in bitcoin. The Champion's League starts next Tuesday but due to starting the sign-up process for the pool quite late I won't collect money in until a month or so, so if you want to play please state your interest and I will send you a link to join the pool. Please only sign up if you have the intention of paying. If anyone doesn't pay they will just be removed but you will have at least a month to get the money together.

The winners will be the top five users who have the highest points at the end of the season and 100% the money that is collected will be shared out amongst the winners (minus any fees).

If anyone wants to sponsor the pool by putting some money into the pot then please get in contact. Again, none of the money will go to me but will be used to boost the winnings. For sponsoring the pool the pool will be renamed to the business or project of your choice and you can have a banner with links in the OP's of both this thread and the Discussion thread.

Current sign ups:

If he cannot decide by himself the easy way to do this without bearing the responsibility of the choice is to make a list of candidates he would approve and then ask the participants in the CM campaign to vote for 4 ( or depending of the slots) candidates, the ones that gather the most votes enter the campaign.
It won't be easy to manipulate the vote, and there will be no personal drama anymore.

It's just an idea Smiley

Nah, I think this would just lead to more complaints to be honest. People already complain and make conspiracies up about DT and their Chipmixer buddies and people are more likely to vote for the friends or people they like. If Darkstar is struggling to pick some I would just create a shortlist of the best users and maybe do a draw/raffle for them then at least it's random and nobody can complain.

So. Many. Applications.

Most are waisting everyone time IMO.

Yeah some illiterate neg-trusted sockpuppets clearly can't read the rules:

Some may slide under a technicality (negative ratings not exceeding positive) but with so many other candidates to choose from they better be Shakespeare reincarnate:

I really don't envy Darkstar right now. Just to go through them all is going to be a mammoth task and then he's got to pick the best of the best from a shortlist which is probably going to be a longlist and ceraintly isn't going to be easy. No doubt we'll get a lot of people complaining about his choices either way. For those that don't get picked I wouldn't take it personal as there's a hell of a lot of competition here. Just keep the content up and try again next time when spots become available. Good luck.

I don't see a problem with trust being shown everywhere. Doesn't hurt anyone, might help someone.

I don't have a problem with it either, but theymos has said before he doesn't want it influencing opinion of people in other boards where trading isn't relevant. There are pros and cons to both ways though.
1025  Other / Meta / Re: Project Development board change? on: October 13, 2020, 07:06:16 AM
Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea in that board as it's potentially dealing with money, but they get reported and nuked pretty fast so probably doesn't matter too much.
It's not dealing with money, but it's dealing with malware that can steal money from you if you are newbie and you download that software.rar file.
I don't see that it showing trust on profiles is such a big deal to add there.

Well if we're going by that logic malware can and is posted on all boards and someone could steal money from you there so should we show the feedback in all subs?

1027  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion about newbies on: October 11, 2020, 01:28:47 PM
I would like to propose a solution about these newbies that don't do anything than damaging and spamming the forum. Once a newbie creates a new topic, the moderation team must approve it first. I wouldn't suggest posts generally because there may be some honest newbies that face an issue. Just for their topics.

I've suggested this before and I still don't think it's a bad idea as it will stop the majority of spam bots of malicious users, but this alone wouldn't stop the current eth pill scammers as they've seemingly hacked hundreds of older accounts including many higher ranking ones which are used to spam the malware.
1028  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin talk could fix the spam in one move....REMOVE SIGNATURE...Right?? on: October 08, 2020, 08:00:33 AM

So funny.  Merit was the last try...and banning sigs are next on the chopping block

Sig spam is worse the ever

And no, we don't need to pay people to post... in order to keep this forum alive.

It's really not worse than ever. It's quietened down a lot from a couple of years ago or so when the ICO boom was in full swing and there were also a couple of bitcoin-paying campaigns like Yobit that literally accepted anyone without any sort of verification. Their payouts were even automatic so that obviously lead to a lot of abuse. I still think we should enforce the guidelines and dish out punishments for poorly run campaigns though. With some minimum standards on how campaigns should operate the forum would be a much better place and people can still get paid for doing something they would anyway.
1029  Other / Meta / Re: Report Malware and Suspicious Links here so Mods can take Action ! on: October 07, 2020, 11:20:21 AM
Whoever hacked those ethereum pill-spreading accounts would probably make more money by just selling them. There's seemingly hundreds of them. Wonder how they got them as most seem to be accounts that are a year or two old.

Was thinking that myself 2 weeks ago also.
Maybe they get some discount if they buy more Accounts in one buy order where they getting them.

I very much doubt they bought them. They probably hacked them hence why they're so disposable, but I'm not sure how much money he's managed to scam with the malware and some of the accounts are decent ranked so there'd be money in just selling them.

1031  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin talk could fix the spam in one move....REMOVE SIGNATURE...Right?? on: October 06, 2020, 09:29:01 AM
This is where most campaigns get it wrong. Quantity over quality means your signature would likely appear under posts of users spamming the forum who may be ignored by other members, or it would be made in spam mega threads and boards only visited by other spammers, so no promotion is actually being done, as the target audience does not get to see the ad.

They don't get it wrong. They get it quite right actually: More spam = more ad impressions. And May be ignored. How many users do you have ignored? It would be a full time job to ignore every spammer you see here as there's thousands of them and when it's more often than not essentially free for a coin to advertise here it doesn't matter to them - throw as much shit at the wall and see how much sticks. Anything that gets seen is a plus to them. Most of these campaigns really don't care about long-term reputation; they're just pump and dump schemes that want your money and once they have it they will move on to the next thing and rinse and repeat and we're left to clean up their mess which shouldn't be tolerated.

Spam wound not help any genuine project build engagement, it can only be useful to scammers looking to attract unsuspecting newbies to their HYIP projects like we saw with Cryptotalk/Yobit.

Spam is effective as it's all about getting your name and brand out there which signature campaigns do very well.

Overall, removing signatures would only dissuade genuine projects from advertising on the forum

It wouldn't. They would probably just buy forum ad slots instead.

actual spammers would always find a way to jump through hoops to cheat the system. Although, there would be far less engagement to attract them without signatures.

There would be no hoop to jump through as if signatures went then so would 99% of the spammers who are only here to earn from them as they would have no interest being here otherwise. The people who force themselves to post just for payment wouldn't bother and that means once a question has been answered you wouldn't get dozens of replies stating the same or countless threads about every possible permeation of how you gamble: do you gamble on the toilet, do you gamble on Christmas, do you gamble whilst you gamble etc.

I think this forum would be pretty dead without them though.
If the forum would be dead without signatures, it deserves to die. Forums are supposed to be about discussion, not advertising.

Well I don't disagree. The forum would still tick over, but I wouldn't be surprised if at least 80% of traffic goes. You could argue that may or may not be a good thing. Certainly the only people who are here to earn would leave so you would know who genuinely does have an interest in crypto.
1032  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin talk could fix the spam in one move....REMOVE SIGNATURE...Right?? on: October 05, 2020, 08:45:16 AM
Yeah, it would certainly stop 100% of the signature spam. I think this forum would be pretty dead without them though. I just wish we would implement the Signature Campaign guidelines. I've long said signature campaigns could actually help improve the forum but only if campaigns are run properly and bad ones are banned and even banished from the forum. There's a lot of greedy and lazy campaigns that come here and only want to promote themselves as much as they can and when there's no repercussions for those campaigns they do what they want and that's very destructive to the forum. If they started getting bans then they'd so something about their campaigns but when there's no motive to do that they're not going to waste time and money policing themselves when as much spam as possible baring their signature is beneficial to them.
1033  Other / Meta / Re: Appeal the ban "wedosgibas" account on: October 02, 2020, 10:31:44 AM
I removed the ban.

So if you are saying is true, then there is a big flaw in the system. Anyone with planning can ruin anyone account ? Isn't it ?

I would be interested to see how mods will respond to your application and will your account get unban  Huh

People probably shouldn't be banned merely for posting an address unless there's some other evidence as things like this can happen. People could alsoo easily manipulate evidence to try get anyone banned or tagged.
1034  Other / Meta / Re: Ban Appeal Salamstar on: October 02, 2020, 10:22:48 AM
maybe a signature ban of some sort would be more appropriate.

I agree, I am not here to defend the user's actions nor I know anything about the alleged previous account, but the member "Salamstar" was very productive and added a lot of great content to the Arabic board, a ton of accounts are banned every day and I only share my honest opinion about banned users' performance when I feel like they deserve it, I think a signature ban for 2 years or so would be appropriate.

I changed it to a sig ban.
1035  Other / Meta / Re: Ban Appeal Salamstar on: October 01, 2020, 02:34:25 PM
What was the original account banned for? Plagiarism? You have a fair bit of merit on Salamstar so maybe a signature ban of some sort would be more appropriate.

Went for 0-0 on the Fulham/Villa game. It's 2-0 to Villa after 20 minutes. Fml.
1037  Other / Meta / Re: Mod made a mistake ? Or is corrupted. Don't hide away, present your argument. on: September 28, 2020, 03:55:46 PM
How does one trace which particular mod deleted your post? What place hides the corrupt weasels that moderate here.  Why hide the names? If they can provide a sensible and credible reason for the delete why hide it?

You can't. Only an admin or the person who removed your post can answer that. Most forums I've been on don't tell you who deleted your post. In fact, most forms seemingly don't even notify you of the deleted post which is even more annoying as it just disappears without warning.
1038  Other / Meta / Re: Appealing my post deletion. on: September 27, 2020, 01:21:56 PM
Two different people have reported them as low value and they're seemingly reporting posts of a lot of other users so I doubt it's something personal.
1039  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 27, 2020, 08:58:49 AM
West Brom vs Chelsea yesterday was a complete surprise, am I right? This is one of those rare moments when nobody from the pool got anything right!

I think it happened a couple of times already, maybe even last week. There's just some match ups where nobody expects a certain outcome but upsets can always happen.
1040  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 26, 2020, 05:38:49 PM
West Brom are 3-0 up at 30 minutes played. Not a single person has backed them to win  Grin.
Chelsea defense looks tragic, and this time I blame Lampard. Did you guys noticed that T. Silva is Chelsea captain today? WTF, he came into the club 15 days ago and he probably does not speak English and you give him captain armband  Huh What sort of message you give to other players with move like that and to make it even worse that captain then gives a free goal to WBA.

Yeah, I noticed that and thought it was strange. Shows you how much the Chelsea team has changed and there's no real long-serving players on the field or even bench who deserve the band. I don't think Silva can speak English or at least not every well. His first Chelsea Press Conference was dubbed in English.

Edit: Chelsea came back to draw 3-3. Nobody went for the draw either.
