I hope I’m still worthy to drop by in the thread from time to time cos I got no gamble this season.  Lolol..  Cheesy

Not unless you're paying/playing  Grin. Just cough up the paltry 0.002. We need a handful more players to hit 50. Didn't you win the pool the season before last?
742  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Six people killed in mass shooting in Plymouth, England on: August 13, 2021, 12:28:34 PM
I feel like some reporters are way too quick to default to the easy "explanations", oh look he was a Trump supporter, or he posted on incel sites or whatever. Usually it's far more complicated than that. For someone to kill people, to kill children, the person has to have serious mental issues. We'll have a "nocoiner who sold at $10k" rampage one day and we'll all be implicated once they dig up our Bitcointalk posts deriding that person.

Well, there's usually always some motive for mass killings and it's not just a random act of violence, but most incels will have some mental health issues: anxiety, depression etc which will contribute to their lack of success with the opposite success and it's a vicious cycle from there. From the video I saw I'd say it looks like a textbook case of an incel lashing out at the world.

Plymouth shooting: police confirm ‘very young girl’ among five killed by gunman

Man suspected of killing five people, including a child, before turning a gun on himself named as Jake Davison

Hadn't seen this posted yet but it's worthy of a discussion I guess. Shootings in the UK are very rare and apparently this is the deadliest in the UK for over a decade. It seems the killer was actually a legal firearms owner which is also rare over here but I think as long as you can get a letter from your doctor to say you're mentally competent you probably can get a license to own one. I wonder if this will change that now? It's being reported that the shooter was part of the incel community.

I'm missing in the list. I sent you the tx yesterday and the btc should have already arrived Smiley

Are  there any bonus tips or anything else? I'm really excited, the pot is also very high and you shouldn't leave out any tips, otherwise you can get very annoyed later  Cheesy

I added you. What do you mean by tips?
745  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: August 13, 2021, 11:22:00 AM
Today the Premier League opens with the Brentford vs Arsenal match, who has any thoughts regarding this match? I think both teams will score goals in this match. Brentford has done well in friendly matches, good attacking football and it will be a home match for them. Arsenal traditionally have a strong attack, so the bet looks good.

I think Arsenal will just nick it by a goal, but don't rule out an upset. There's usually some crazy results on the first round or two as teams get used to playing again.

If anyone thinks they're good at predicting scores then considering joining the Sportsbet.io Premier League pool: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5352374.0

If you're thinking of playing just sign up to superbru.com and make sure your scores are in as you can join the league later and all your scores will carry over. If you're wanting to play but can only pay later I'll give people up to the end of the month to do so, just PM me. Remember, if 50 people join there will be 0.2 in the pot and I'll probably make first place 0.1. The highest scorer from every round will also win free $50 on Sportsbet and the top two highest yellow caps at the end of the season will win a football shirt so plenty of chances to win something.

Actually I remember them from last seasons so they are definitely now new:)
My bad. I must miss them from last year.

Welcome back, I seem to remember you were missing for a while because of life and work? It happens to all of us, so we're happy to have you back.
It's combined with all. More importantly, lack of interest after a few weeks gap. Sometimes you just don't feel doing something that you are once interested. Besides no football, especially no PL means not much for me to talk about. Let Liverpool have a brilliant season, I will have some exciting time here too ☺️

By the way, who will be top three in the league? Any wild guess?

Man City
Man U
Chelsea

City are the strong favourites to dominate everything this season, even without Kane, which I'm not sure they'll manage to bag before the start of the season if at all. Maybe it'll have to be in the next transfer window but with Kane having so long left on his contract I can't see him going unless City meet what Spurs want for him and I'm not sure how City will be able to afford that.

Yes now that it is confirmed, the only thing we can be watching out for are the big Champions League games. I doubt a lot of people will watch whole Ligue 1 games because Messi is there. At least I don't and I also didn't because of Mbappe or Neymar. I will follow the top scorer list and maybe some summaries of the games just to see in the highlights how Messi is doing. What's actually interesting are the Champions League games. PSG vs. Barcelona, or PSG vs. Manchester City! That's what I am hoping for. Oh, and of course PSG vs. Juventus, Messi vs. Ronaldo! Wink
Juventus will be beaten by PSG if they have to face with each other. I don't underestimate the defenders of Juventus but PSG are very strong and their players are younger.

PSG vs Manchester City is a more balanced pair and I can not choose what team will win. It depends on their form around that match and player resources they have for it. Their players have same quality level.

PSG and Manchester City will be two biggest candidates in Champions League 2021 - 2022 from what they got from the transfers in this summer. PSG looks to have a wiser transfer strategy than Manchester City. Wilnandum, Ramos, Messi, they got all of them as free transfers. I feel PSG are repeating what Juventus did years ago with Pirlo, Pogba, etc.

PSG v City in the final would be a great one. If PSG don't win everything this year then I don't even know what to say. Ligue 1 should be a given but they didn't bag it last year.

750  Other / Meta / Re: We need a new global moderator. on: August 12, 2021, 10:49:29 AM
I'm not saying I'd do a better job than them, and for the most part I think they both do a good job, but we need some fresh blood in the moderation department. Both hilariousandco and mprep have been mods during my entire 7+ years on the forum. I can't help but think that, with the exception of dealing with giveaways, moderation is loosening to the point where it is encouraging a new wave of spammers on the forum.

A new global mod wouldn't be such a bad idea as they could pick up slack in other areas without a moderator, like P&S. I really can't think of a downside to adding new blood to the administration... things seem a bit stale up there.

I'm not against more mods and certainly think there's a few people who have earned a place on staff with their report counts but I think it's a lack of reports that is the main issue. There's far too much spam but no real incentive for users to report it so staff aren't going to go out of their way to find spam to remove. I'm not sure how much tinkering theymos wants to do with this current software but I still think we should considering adding those reporter badges that come with a few small perks as I certainly think that would help boost reports and clean up spam.

Maybe it would be best to add some dedicated sub board mods for the boards that are lacking one but the P&S section is going to be a notoriously difficult board to mod and it's probably one where it's just best left up to globals rather than have someone who is going to be a focal point to put the blame on or attack when something in there doesn't go their way. Blatant spam can and should obviously be removed but everything else should probably be left alone and people can either argue why they disagree or just ignore that person if they're too annoying or crossing the line of decency/sanity.

751  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 11, 2021, 09:08:04 PM
Thanks to jeremypwr and sportsbet the top two overall highest yellow caps will also win a football shirt. I may still offer a cash prize for first place but only if we get 50+ users so spread the word. I'm sure most of us could bring in another player.

I'll be honest Hilariousandco usually sends me a message when this is about to start each year, and I've refrained the last few due to being absolutely awful at remembering to put in the predictions. However, Hilariousandco has twisted my arm Wink, and convinced me to join again this year. I'm actually quite excited about getting one result bang on this year, and then dipping into irrelevancy the rest of the weeks. It's a pleasure lads.

I'm also terrible at remembering to do the Super6 competition Sky runs, and that's free to enter each week!

Grin. Just put as many results in as you can or want in advance and when you have time or remember just update them.
752  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: August 11, 2021, 02:29:52 PM
Tottenham are in talks with young Inter striker Lautaro Martinez (23) now. Maybe they are thinking of the possibility that Manchester City can still sign Harry Kane this summer and they want to have a backup plan for that. But as Inter have sold Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea, I assume that they wouldn't be willing to sell Martinez also.

I'm not sure how City will be able to afford Kane and be within fair play rules after signing Grealish. They're also leaving it late, especially since they're playing each other in the first round.

Bump. First game kicks off on Friday.

If anyone is wanting to play but can't pay by Friday I'll allow up to the end of the month to do so.

Hello @hilariousandco. I would like to participate in this contest. I want to pay the admission fee next week. I hope that you can accept me.

Sure. You can sign up to superbru and put your scores in now and they'll carry over to the league once you join.

The main PL pool grew by about ten each year, and it was about 20 extra last year probably because on what was on offer with the free shirt etc. I suspect we'll get about 40 this year unless there's a surge of late sign-ups. I would like to get 50 though to match last year and just because that makes the pot a a nice 0.2 to divvy out.

I think we will hit the 50 again this year,I think many persons are on vacation right now and when they will be back probably they will join, they will be one or two week late but that isn't that big of an obstacle as there is room for improvement during the rest of the 36 remaining games. If they already are playing on another pool it is better as their results will come over to this pool.

Well they'll be leaving it late as the first game is on Friday. I'm sure we'll get a few late joiners but probably not 15+. Joining a few rounds late doesn't really matter but most won't want to play at a disadvantage. As I said before, If anyone is thinking/wanting to join the pool but can't pay just yet I can give you up until the end of the month to do so. Just PM me.
755  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 11, 2021, 08:18:50 AM
@hilariousandco I have some serious complications offline, I’m not here enough, and I’m often not next to my wallet. I hope I'm not late with my entry.

No it's not too late. Just PM me the txid when you're done.

If you do this, then I am absolutely sure that it will not look biased towards other pools or bookmakers.

I'm absolutely sure you're wrong about that.  I think it would be a conflict of interest for a global moderator who's managing the pool to pin the thread for this pool and no other.  Not that H&Co would profit from it, but he is sporting a Sportsbet.io signature in one of his accounts, and Sportsbet.io is sponsoring this pool.  It definitely would look like preferential treatment, and would cause a shit-storm of controversy.

Yeah. Can't really just sticky any thread I want. As long as they're bumped often it does the trick.

Are we expecting many more? 27 is about what we normally get isn’t it, a pretty good number tbh but would be cool to get a few more.

I think we had 50 participants last year, which is a pretty good turnout.  I don't know about the previous years, last year was the first time I participated.  Being that it's a pool, the more the merrier and the bigger the prize pool.  I can't think of any drawbacks to having more people join.

I've updated the OP but I don't think that's the issue here.

As an individual I'm not sure getting 50 players is a great idea especially for wanting to win the yellow cap as Sportsbet.io give the round winner a free bet.
More players means less chances to be the best in a round despite having 38 chance to get it.
But more players join means bigger pot but also bit less chance to be placed in a payed position unless more players gets us more payed positions like if we have 30 participants we get top5 as winners.
And if we have 50 players we get like 8winners. It's something like participants/winners ratio.

Well if there are over 50 players the pot will be higher but i think more rewards should be added then.I currently like the prize for first place a lot even tho the season is long.I only wish there were more weekly or monthly prizes. We have only 1 prize for every round and thats the 50$ freebet. But its still better then nothing. We should expect before the start that we have between 35-50 players i hope so

Sportstbet did say they'd be the chance to win free shirts on certain games. $50 free bet is more than enough for every round and were lucky to have that. I can't really pay anything out of the pot for them as there wouldn't be much left by the end of it. I might do a consolation prize for the highest overall weekly round but it depends on how many people are playing. Probably won't do it if there's less than 50 users though.
