I don't understand why so few people separates the cards as far as they can and why nobody change card orientation so fans don't get blocked by other cards.

Because I was in a hurry to get mining and now that i'm overclocked and mining 24/7 my temps are fine so, why bother with it?

nice rig. =)
what are the temperatures on the 2x 6990?

The lower card GPUs are at 64/61 deg and upper are at 76/69 deg.  They are running with the OC switch in the default (non-OC) position to reduce power consumption.  With OC enabled one of the upper card GPUs likes to get up to about 90 deg, and the rig draws nearly 2 more amps (~7amps vs ~9amps).

Right now I am using the Koolance Exos 2 all in one cooling system.  Very easy to setup and nice design.  However, the Exos 2.5 (with 3 fans instead of 2) is probably better suited to dual 6990's - got one on order to see what kind of difference it makes.

my 5830's, hard at work Smiley  ::sniff:: i am so proud of them...

card temps between 57C and 63C

aluminum frame cost about $12.

the coffee cans were a temporary solution, although i think all i will do is turn them upside down and drive some self-drilling screws through the frame into their bottoms to make them permanent.  i run this rig via Putty SSH on a WinXP rig in the other room.

this whole deal costed me a little over $750 (counting the box fan) and gets 1040 Mhash/sec

Any insight into your water cooling setup for those of us that have never done it before? I understand the concepts, etc. but I have had a hard time getting my hands around the options available on the market for 1000W+ heat dissipation.

Hmm very nice idea... does it work well to isolate the card that way?

I imagine so since it would create a windtunnel-like effect but it would be nice to make sure.

From my preliminary tests it seem to work very well Smiley with a 5850 @ 1000/900 1,21 Vcore and 60-70% fan i was able to keep it around 71 degrees Smiley too bad the VRMs are more or less cooking (135 degrees), i checked all the screws on the back of the board today tough and one of them was a bit loose so that might have been the problem with the VRMs, i'll check later Smiley

what are you guys using for "open" cases with 4 cards?

Spreading the cards out as much as possible and strapping a fan to the top of them. That does the job.

What I meant was which test benches or cases or whatever are being used?

I have two rigs mining but this is my main one:

Two 5870's.  One is overclocked at 1120/500 → 469 MHash/s.  The other has a minimal overclock (900/600) → 376 MHash/s.

what temp do they run at?  Running mine at 950/386 at around 420Mhash/sec and don't have any temp problems with just air cooling.

The one mining 469 MHash/s is averaging 38°C.  The other is at 34°C.
