  • Keep receiving addresses alive

This is really the most important thing to me. I'll definitely be diving into this next week to get the wallet.dat files consolidated.

Sorry to bring the... WHAT IF the equipment never arrives, and we pay even more for the upgrade? Probably it will be better the transfer to start when you have a clear notice from BFL that the rigs are coming at some date  Roll Eyes

Hi 2GOOD,

That is the plan.

1203  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Utility to combine multiple wallet.dat files? on: September 28, 2012, 10:56:26 PM
Hello fellow bitcoiners,

Is there a utility available to combine multiple wallet.dat files into one? I've kept a couple different wallets up till now but would like to combine them into one.

Thanks,
gigavps

I can readjust all servers to different amounts as well if we want to try that.  It's also possible to leave servers at different difficulties for whatever people feel most comfortable with.

Do you see any value of going to 24 or higher to test?  My only concern with higher GW/m rate is that when the system gets slammed with 20 TH/s, it starts to overload the back end, but in all honesty, the back end is pretty robust at this point and can handle around 5 TH/s per server at diff1, if not more.

You might want to keep a minimum diff for each user mining so that once they start mining for the first time, the system will remember a minimum difficulty for that particular miner. That way, if someone with 10Th/s hops on and off the server, they don't start with diff 1 shares everytime.

Just my two bitcents.  Cheesy

So, to clarify, there are two times at which I can upgrade - when you order the equipment, and when it gets running. Is that correct, or will it be possible to transfer shares at any time?

The equipment was ordered months ago.  Grin

The first time you will be able to upgrade will be when I announce that you can do so. You will probably want to upgrade BEFORE the equipment arrives as to make sure you do not miss out on, what I'm sure will be, an exciting time.

Ok, here's the config now:

US1: 12 getworks per minute target
US2: 16 getworks per minute target
US3: 20 getworks per minute target

See which one works best for you.

So, mining with 1 5970 and 2 BFL mini rigs the results are:

US1 @ 12 getworks == diff between 50 and 75
US2 @ 16 getworks == diff between 40 and 50
US3 @ 20 getworks == diff between 30 and 40

I am really liking US3 with almost 1/2 the diff of US1. This has definitely helped bring share variance down and the swings in the diff changes as the server re-targets the diff.
1207  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Satoshi Dice -- Statistical Analysis on: September 28, 2012, 06:32:42 PM
What if the profits are:
10k at the end of September
9k at the end of November
10k at the end of December

There's no dividend at the end of November, but what about at the end of December?  Is that counted as a 1k profit on the month?  Because that 1k profit was already paid out at the end of September - the site hasn't really made a new profit, it's just recovered its November loss.

Per the prospectus

Quote
It is also important to note that net profit is calculated as a running total. Thus if Month A has a loss of 500 BTC, and Month B has a profit of 1200 BTC, the net profit for Month B will be 700 BTC and this is the amount which would be paid to shareholders as dividends
1208  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Satoshi Dice -- Statistical Analysis on: September 28, 2012, 06:14:42 PM
Dividend = (Oct 1  Profit after fees - Sept 1 Profit after fees) / 10

What happens if that number is negative?

Then no cookies for you!  Tongue

Sure, I've chosen the values arbitrarily at this point, because I wasn't sure what optimal values would be.

Why do you choose 20, just out of curiosity?  I chose 8 at first, but that seemed to really crank the difficulty, then 12... we can move to 20 and see how that plays out.

20 would allow for larger miners to have less variance in share submission which is usually the reward for have a larger hash rate at Diff 1. For 1Gh/s, share submission should be around 13.85 shares per minute. By having a number higher than 13.85, it still allows larger miners to have slightly less share variance while still limiting the overall pool resources the large miners are taking up.

Is there a particular reason the var diff server tries to keep shares submission to 12 per minute? With diff 1 shares, as your hash rate increases your variance goes down but this is not the case with 12 shares per minute rule. Can this be set to 20? A share submission target of once every 3 seconds?

Yeah, about the coffee thing...if a Jalapeno is able to warm a cup of coffee, how many cups of coffee you can warm with a MiniRig?

Doesn't matter, no coffee allowed in the data center.  Tongue
1212  Economy / Services / Re: Gigamining / Teramining on: September 28, 2012, 10:38:20 AM
The concern I have with the teramining upgrade path, and please correct me if I'm wrong, is that the share hashrate increases five-fold?  So a 5 MH/s share turns into a 25 MH/s share.

But..

a $150 GPU can do 350 MH/s
a $150 Jalapeno can do 3500 MH/s

So the hashpower increase is 10-fold, your shares increasing 5-fold is not a great value considering.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, LOTTOMINING to be purchasing shares off you and other tickers on GLBSE, I just want to better understand the teramining transition, since we will be purchasing shares very soon (our IPO is Oct. 1 and our company is going to purchase shares in other tickers).

Hi mc_lovin,

At the time I made the offer of Teramining, there were very few complaints about it. The terms of Teramining will stay as they are according to the quoted contract in the OP. If you feel that my offer is not a good deal, then please do not take me up on it.

Best,
gigavps

Here's a question - what about those of us who have a very small number of bonds (3 in my case), so even one Teramining bond will be more than the hashes all of our gigamining shares would have provided?

Hi theGECK,

In this case, I would recommend one of two options.

  • Purchase more gigamining to get to 9 shares to do the trade in as soon as we are ready.
  • Simply hold on to your Gigamining bonds until the equipment arrives and then upgrade.

Best,
gigavps
1214  Economy / Services / Re: Gigamining / Teramining on: September 27, 2012, 10:39:19 PM
how is the transfer going to take place and when do I pay?

The transfer will happen MANUALLY, one at a time. So, the exact way it should go is:

  • I'll announce we're ready to start the upgrade. This will include instructions for the upgrade process.
  • You'll follow the instructions. (this is a very important piece)
  • If you've followed the instuctions properly, I'll send you the first part of Teramining and note what is remaining.
  • The equipment will arrive and I'll get it up and running.
  • I'll send out the rest of the Teramining bonds.

If you prefer to wait on receiving Teramining before it arrive, this is not a problem and Gigamining will still be paying out as normal. If you upgrade early, you'll still get paid like you are with Gigamining.

I am also going to request from Nefario that transfer fees be turned off for Gigamining to make things easy on you guys. I'll send them some coins to take care of the fees.

Hope this helps.
1215  Economy / Services / Re: Gigamining / Teramining on: September 27, 2012, 09:28:43 PM
Now I seem more confused then ever... if I have 10 GIGAMINING bonds and I pay for the upgrade ..   So I will pay 2.9 BTC and will get how many TERRAMINING BONDS? 40?  or do I have to only upgrade 9 bonds?  and either sell 1 or buy 2  GIGAMINING?

Naelr

The multiples of 9 is mainly for the time between the upgrade and the actual equipment arriving. I will initially only be giving out enough Teramining to MATCH your Mh/s in Gigamining. When the equipment arrives, you will receive the rest of the bonds.

This is so you are always holding something that receive dividends.

I haven't decided what to do with the efficiency metric. Either I'll make up something or just not use it.

Is the efficiency metric still important with variable diff shares? I'm sitting at 62% currently.
1217  Economy / Services / Re: Gigamining / Teramining on: September 27, 2012, 04:47:46 PM
Ok, it's good to know... Now I hope BFL delivers in November. And will Gigamining still give dividends while you send in some of your BFL equipment for the trade in for the new ASICs?

All dividends will be paid regardless of whether the equipment is running or not.
1218  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [2000 GH/s] EMC: No Fee/PPS/DGM/Dwolla Payout/SMS/Yubikey/GBT/Vardiff on: September 27, 2012, 04:33:38 PM
Don't forget about GBT, either.  It basically reduces the outbound traffic (replacing Getwork) to 1 connection every 2 minutes regardless of your hashrate.

That said, how does that effect efficiency calculations going forward?  Stratum is effectively the same in that regard, so if you pull a template and send back getworks, how is CGminer going to calculate efficiency or does that just become a redundant metric at that point?

This is the one piece I don't fully understand yet. How does GBT let the pool know how fast I am hashing so the pool knows what proportion of blocks to give me? This is pretty straight forward with getwork as I am submitting shares whether they are winners or not.
1219  Economy / Services / Re: Gigamining / Teramining on: September 27, 2012, 04:25:29 PM
One question, for example if I own 3x9=27 GIGAMINING bonds and decide to go for the paid upgrade - I recieve all 108 (cool LOST number) at once or at portions.. and I pay for them at once or.. if can make it a little more clear and about the timeframe will it be proportional to BFLs shippings..

Ok. You are correct that if you own 27 Gigamining bonds and choose the paid upgrade would would get 108 Teramining bonds and you would pay 7.83 BTC.

When BFL has firmer dates around shipping the Gigamining equipment (approx Nov. 1) I will start the process of upgrading everyone. Since I will not have the hashing power until it arrives, you will get a portion of your allocated Teramining bonds to equal the Mh/s you had in Gigamining. In your case, you would get 6 Teramining bonds immediately to make sure you continue to receive coupon payments. You will turn in your Gigamining bonds and the fee will also be collected at this time.

When the equipment finally arrives and is running, I will issue the remaining bonds and Teramining will start in earnest.

I hope this helps.

Just moved ~50Gh in eclipse and the variable diff stuff is awesome! The network definitely has a lot less traffic now. Smiley
