Hi there.

I have a little concern. It seems that since YTD Digibyte has been on a downward trend (just look at CMC graph or TradingView). Now this might not mean bad news but i would like to think how we can reverse this.

For one there has been a lot of bad blood between exchanges about its centralisations, questionable practices etc which i agree should be addressed, however why don't Digibyte Devs or team then make its own Crypto exchange that way trading or admin fees can be wavered using digibyte coins. I have no doubts this will improve the circulation of the coin and bring about a more unified front form this community and show better promise for its use in real world business as we would not need to rely on these "Power Controlled" Exchanges anymore.

I also read now that Digibyte Stablecoin is in the works or going to be released soon, what does this mean for Digibyte Coin itself? Will it slowly erode away making way for this new Stablecoin? Will devs or project team still be as committed to the Digibyte coin? Or will it falter in favour of this new coin? Is this the reason we are continually seeing a downwards trend on this Coin?

There are so many questions, I for one think we should rather focus on getting our own exchange before committing to a new Stable Coin as ultimately we will be heavily dependent on these Exchnages that we so much have come to criticize. Even if this StableCoin depends on your relationship with your bank, remember we live in a global world where bank regulations have different opinions on cryptos so I might live in a country that hates crypto so for me to get a StableCoin backed Digibyte with my bank will be difficult, however it is much easier for me to trade on Exchanges as then I have more freedom to do so which I think this goes for a lot of people around the world not just the select few in USA.

This is just my honest opinion and it is what I strongly feel. Smiley

Cheers!

Lots of confusion in there but thanks for sharing your honest feedback!

1st) DigiByte is not going anywhere. Nor as anyone abandoning $DGB. Lots of work is being done on the core protocol. We have been committed and working consistently for 6 years. What other projects can say that?

2nd) Yes we are in a bear market and have been here before. This is the third major bear market we have endured. We have always come back stronger.

3rd) The DigiDollar Stablecoin was an idea proposed by Jared that depends on the security of the DigiByte blockchain and requires DGB. It is not even under development. Lots of false rumors saying its ready, it is not. In the interest of decentralization, he shared the idea publicly after talking to several people before any work is to be been done.

In Short:

DigiDollar will increase demand for DigiBytes and give further utility to the DigiByte blockchain. It's a huge step forward.

Xploited, a past Digibyte dev that created "Digishield", has actually created an exchange that supports Digibyte!

He and I both own FreeBitcoins.com/xchange ... it's still very new and needs more market makers.

We look forward to having a good, natural, honest arena for Digifolks to trade for Bitcoins.

Hello DGB community,

Anyone else having issues with the wallet? I had an old version 6. something and sent some coins to an exchange for trading. I later had an error on the wallet about "unknown rule"? and the chain had stopped on a certain block about 11 weeks ago. So I downloaded the newest wallet version 7.17.2.0, its been 4 days and the startup screen still says "loading block index" So it hasn't even got to the main screen yet. Also more concerning now is the coins have not shown up on the exchange and when looking at pending deposits nothing is there.

Just trying to find out what is going on. Worst case I can try and restore the old version?

Any info would be great!

Thanks

Hello, thanks for supporting DigiByte! This is expected behavior when you are using an old outdated wallet. Make sure you have DigiByte v. 7.17.2 running. You might need to use the -reindex command and restart your wallet. Fighting with Binance isn't good for DGB. Pay fee or don't, but don't shout in public. Binance is a privately owned exchange, they can basically add or delist any coin they want to. Charge any listing fee they feel is appropriate. They have a business model that seems to be working great without DGB. I'm a fan of DGB, but I'm also a fan of liberty and economic freedom. I have some DGBs and will sell them soon if nothing change. Winning a stupid poll entitles us to nothing. A serious look into what the technology is and is capable of doing should be used as the criteria rather than popularity contests.

I have to agree to this.
DGB maybe have no money to pay for fee but this shouldnt be used to try shit on the binance.
If all dgb community sign under jared statement with both hands than this means it will stall , end up in dead end road. which means good luck and hope there will be no eventually some fork to replace dgb.
If you really think a single centralized and greedy exchange that has proven to do shady things on multiple occasions is going to bring DigiByte down you really need to ask yourself why are you in blockchain technology, to begin with? DigiByte has been around far longer than Binance and is not dependent on a single centralized point of failure.

Jared is most definitely alive, that article is 2 years old.

The Bitcoin blockchain mining hash rate just dropped almost 40%. Jared explains why the difficulty bug could kill $BTC, what a "difficulty adjustment" is & how DigiByte fixed this issue in 2014 & numerous blockchains followed our lead. Including dogecoin, ethereum, bitcoincash etc.

Hi,

My digibyte core wallet version 6.14.2.0 is stuck at synching headers 100% blocks processed 9136551 date august 13... last generated block was 20 hours ago..

Do i need to upgrade my version?? can i do that without completely synching this version?

Pls help..

Thanks in advance.

Yes, make sure you have upgraded to 7.17.2. This was the Odocrypt Hardfork on July 21st. All previous DGB versions are incompatible.  Please download the latest version here: https://www.digibyte.io/digibyte-wallet-downloads

Thanks for supporting DigiByte!

1st) Make 100% sure you have updated to the latest iOS or Android wallet.

2nd) Make sure you leave the app open so it can fully sync. Could take 10 - 50 minutes depending on the random node you connect to first and your internet connection.

3rd) If all else fells you can use digisweep but everyone we have helped has gotten the issue successfully fixed after the latest update.

DigiSweep: https://digisweep.digibyteservers.io/

Or to run the code yourself: https://github.com/DigiByte-Core/DigiSweep

Thanks so much. The first 2 options did not work for me, but it did for option 3. I now have all of my DGB back. Whew! Thanks again.

Awesome, glad we could help. Thank you for supporting DigiByte!

I use Digibyte's Android wallet but one of my largest deposits from around 6 weeks ago has gone missing.

I tried to recover my wallet, and it's now synced up to today's date, but that deposit which represented about 1/4 of all of my crypto assets is not reappearing.

I looked at Google Play store comments, and despite a 4.5 star rating, people are writing many comments about DBG gone missing in their wallets. I now feel like a real sucker.  What's going on?

First off, thank you for supporting DigiByte. As you know, the DGB blockchain was hard forked on July 21st to replace the myr-groestl algo with the new Odocrypt mining algo as 1 of DGB's 5 mining algorithms.

This hard fork was a mandatory update for all DGB full nodes and supported wallets. The devs quickly released an update for the iOS and Android DGB mobile wallets to fix a sync issue post-fork. If you have not updated yet, make sure you have updated your mobile wallet to the latest version if you are having any issues.

Second, if you are still having issues, make sure you have written down and recorded your 12 world wallet seed phrase. Then go into settings -> and click "sync blockchain". This will resync your wallet and should fix any issues you are having. There is a chance you may have to do this 2-3 times if you get a bad peer (aka a peer not yet upgraded to 7.17.2.). This will be less of a problem as the old chain dies out.

Let us know how else we can help. We are very excited about the future of DigiByte!

I updated the app have been re-syncing everyday and for the past 5 days and I'm still not seeing my right balance.  I have my 12 word phrase from my original install, but when I entered it in one time it gave me a new wallet address.  I see from Digi explorer that my assets are still in my old address, but I cannot get that address back despite multiple recovery attempts and syncing throughout this week. Even weirder is that my original smaller deposit from March shows up in my updated wallet (with new address) but I sent that amount to a wallet on the Poloniex exchange about a week ago when I could.  My large deposit from June still has not shown up yet. If anyone can help me, please email rossabrooks@yahoo.com

Hi !

Anyone know of a fix fo digibyted crashing every few minutes during sync?
What operating system and hardware are you running digibyted on? As long as you have enough memory you should have no issue running digibyted. We have 100% uptime across all dev servers with latest 7.17.2 version.

A recent hard fork has brought nothing good to DGB investors. In my example, I kept about 100,000 DGB on various wallets, in addition to the fact that the coin began to rapidly decline in price, I lost some of my coins during the transaction from Yobit to Bittrex and none of the exchanges returned the coins to me.
At the same time, wallets were in online status.

WITHDRAWAL OF COINS:
2019-07-30 09:28:04
12800.00000000 DGB
cfba3fd28c76f6eeb02afc1294bd496ebd74d44a618e18b9a8ffb057f335641b

Thus, I lost 12800 DGB by sending from Yobit to Bittrex, technical support did nothing to me. I checked several block explorer, only in one I found my TXID
https://dgb.tokenview.com/en/tx/9133445/1
I regret that I did not buy any other coin, such as DOGE, instead of DGB. Friends, do not repeat my mistakes.
It is possible to get your DGB back as they are still there, but you need the cooperation of the exchange. The exchange needs to upgrade their wallet.

As mentioned by others the DGB community has had many issues with Yobit in the past.

As you know DGB is decentralized, and we cannot control who or what platforms list and trade DGB. We announced the hard fork more than 6 months in advance and had several dozen people continually reaching out making sure people updated.

This list was used by the community to aid in getting all platforms and exchanges to upgrade: https://www.dgbwiki.com/index.php?title=Exchanges

As you can see there are 106 exchanges on that list. Combine that with 20 wallets, 70+ pools, and several dozen other platforms it was quite an extensive communications effort to get direct contact with everyone. Some like Yobit blatantly ignored upgrade requests.

All in all the hard fork was a great success and has made DigiByte much more secure into the future! Thank you all for supporting DGB!

There seems to be some confusion on node counts for DigiByte. Jared had this to say about the 270,000 DGB full node downloads the past 24 months vs the 1200 recent upgrades to v7.17.2 the past 6 days. DGB downloads can be seen and verified via github stats here: http://www.somsubhra.com/github-release-stats/?username=digibyte&repository=digibyte

Quote

Many people I know only open their wallet once every few months. I know some people who haven't upgraded in years but still hold DGB in full nodes.

The fact is we have had 270,000 full nodes downloads the past 24 months. It's verifiable GitHub data. Which DOES NOT even include git clone data. So in fact that # doesn't include how most services like exchanges and pools upgrade which is cloning from source. Ourselves included for stuff like digihash and digiexplorer.

So there have been more than 270k full node installs. But we can't verify the git clone data. But total download/install count is actually higher. Perhaps 10-20% higher.

Sure some of those 270k downloads are the same people upgrading different versions. And as more wallet providers have come into the ecosystem the past two years many people switched to those wallets like Exodus, ledger etc. Before August 2017 you really only had a choice of core wallet, go wallet or the old mobile wallet. Core wallet was most secure.

But the reality is many people only upgrade or check their wallet during massive price movements. So if we see a massive price movement right before the July 19th fork and all the sudden a majority of these old nodes com online because people think "hot damn" I'm rich now. We could be in for trouble. As all the sudden these old nodes become a majority. That's why it's important to get these people that don't follow us daily to upgrade.

Also, people need to know that when they look at a single nodes peer info that's not a very good look at current node count. Single peers often only have around 150 peers. A prime example can be seen here where Chainz only has 69 peers on 7.27.2 out of 123 connections. Yet when I check DGB seed1 it has 183 connections with 72 of them being 7.17.2 nodes. https://chainz.cryptoid.info/dgb/#!network

And since we are 100% certain we have had 1200 full node upgrades the past 6 days our seed nodes and Chainz are only really seeing 5% of upgraded nodes.

The next version of #DigiByte v7.17.2 Odocrypt is close to release! Help us test some 7.17.2 blocks on mainnet by pointing your miners at DigiHash for a few hours. This will be a hardfork to the new Odocrypt mining algo that changes itself every 10 days! (link: http://digihash.co/) digihash.co

https://twitter.com/DigiByteCoin/status/1124020927614922755?s=20

"Odocrypt turns on at block 9,100,000. We currently are at block 8,647,988. That leaves us 452,000 blocks to get everyone updated.  Currently, we get 5,760 new blocks per day. So 78.47 days from now. On or around July 19th."

Regarding ASIC-resistance:

Odo is a substitution-permutation network. Both the substitutions (s-boxes) and permutations (p-boxes) change every 10 days. If they didn't change, it would be easy to create an ASIC that significantly outperformed any other hardware, but because they change, the ASIC would need to be able to reconfigure itself. There's already hardware that specializes in being able to reconfigure itself - the FPGA. Additionally FPGAs are really good at implementing small s-boxes, so while an ASIC could in theory be built, the advantage over FPGAs would be much smaller than for typical proof-of-work algorithms.
