401  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] ASICMiner Prisma 1.4th/s - 1.47 BTC - Batch 6 on: October 23, 2014, 04:22:44 AM
My Prisma review is up.
A beast of a miner that is for sure.  I like it just cannot get over how loud it is. LOL
It is sucking up more power than was anticipated.
1218 watts at the wall on an EVGA 1300 Watt G2 PSU.

Quote
ASICMiner recently debuted the Tube Bitcoin ASIC miner which we reviewed at CCN. FriedCat and his team have followed up the Tube with the Prisma. The Prisma is a 1.4 th/s miner based on the ASICMiner Gen 3 BE200 chip that the Tube miner, as well as others like the Rockminer T1 and BTCGarden V1X2, use. The Prisma follows the same design as the Tube except that it is longer, featuring more chips and a lower clock rate. Clocking down and adding more chips is what ZeusMiner did with the Thunder X6 that we reviewed as well.

ASICMiner can bring the total hash rate up to 1.4 th/s and they are keeping it at a very competitive price with some vendors selling at 1.47 BTC at the time of publication. The Prisma is at a good price especially since almost all hardware miners are long on ROI due to the low BTC value right now.

I just hooked up the 2nd one using phillipma1957's suggestion so far so good but it's only been about 20 mins. The cables don't feel warm as of yet.

 It should be good.

if you have a k-watt meter check watts should be 1020-1100 watts.

if you can post a photo to show  the hook up please do.

The PSU is an EVGA 1300 Watt G2 Supernova.
I was a bit surprised too at the power it is sucking up.  I figured a bit better.
The power draw was only marginally less on 220v.

Eesh... 1218W? What kind of power supply, it looks like it might be an EVGA 1300G2 or 1500?

0.87J/GH wasn't what I was expecting.

Looking forward to the launch.
I am so glad that WAC got on its first exchange.  We have been working on more projects that will come together soon.

That is great to hear when is the publications start date?

405  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Hosted Group Buy for Bitmaintech Antminer C1 (liquid cooled) INTEREST?? on: October 22, 2014, 04:44:29 AM
Hey dude,
Good idea just be careful there are others that sell water cooled 1 th/s + miners all assembled and their prices are about to drop.
https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/bitcoin-mining-company-bitcrane-still-believes-home-mining-supports-idea-decentralization/

mstrongbow, I thought SEGmining already has a website?
I saw it in their reddit post: https://segmining.com/site/

Interesting idea, but the C1 is really expensive. 1BTC/TH without PSUs and without most of the cooling equipment seems like it would never ROI, unless there's something I'm missing here.

Not many miners include PSU's so that's not an issue here, not sure why you'd even bring that up and where else can you buy a 1 Th/s liquid cooled miner?
Oh and yes SEGMining has a current website but I was informed they are working on a new one, with more features etc.

Watch out for the ROI police, they are everywhere! Please keep comments about ROI in the proper Bitmaintech thread found here...
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=656461.0

I will continue to mine and I see these units as great machines for the home or hosted but to each their own. This thread is for those genuinely interested, not to make comments on whether a piece of gear on the market is going to ROI or not.
Thanks!

You are correct not enough people know to ask them about it.
I will put in an official request as well.
I am surprised that the software for the S4 is as buggy as it is usually they do better work on it.  I know the very first iteration was a mess but the work around was ok then the next was better and the last best yet but still not working great with other pools.
I really thought after they saw the mess with the ASICMiner controller they would make sure they did not have issues with theirs.  Bitmain messed up a bit on this one.
Still a great miner but not as good as it could be.

I'm just glad the pool works!  Now if only Bitmain would fix the S4 so I can point it here and get the hash I'm suppose to be getting, it'd be a good day.

Do you have other hashpower pointed here?  Maybe run a stratum proxy and point your hashpower through it ... and once the proxy difficulty gets up to 1024, point your S4(s) to it.

M

Thanks for the suggestion.  I've got the S-4s pointed to CK until this gets resolved.  I've still got my dragons pointed here.  I was spoiled early on, so these current payouts really aren't a big deal if I miss a couple.
I'd suggest asking Bitmain to switch to BFGMiner, which can request a (starting) difficulty from Eligius among many other benefits.
They sent a S1 for development a long time ago, but never followed up with documentation or future products.
I can only guess they believe there might be a lack of demand - in which case their customers need to be more vocal in expressing the need to them.

An irony here is that many in the community think you are both Juke-Jr and wizkid057.
LOL
Could be worse.

Is Lukejr involved with Eligius?  I read he was out of it, but wanted to get confirmation.
I write the code, wizkid057 runs the pool. Why do you think it matters?

Will the heatsinks have a better orientation for cooling in say a hot/cold isle data center setup?

I'm guessing no top side heatsinks then?
We prepared both bottom and top to be ready.
Will see Wink

Great work on the AntSwitch cases!

I am also looking forward to seeing what you can do in metal that rules.
Keep up the great work.  Cool
410  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: October 15, 2014, 11:57:36 AM
That is definitely not true.
The SP20 actually runs quiet and fast.  A really nice miner.  I will make sure to post my review here when ready.
The SP20 they had running at the Inside Bitcoins Conference in Las Vegas was a pleasant surprise. :-)

I heard that Spondoolies cancelled the SP20s due to them being too expensive to manufacture and the performance not meeting expectations, hence the lack of updates despite supposedly shipping in the next week or two. I also heard that Zvi was fired which is why the broken firmware hasn't been fixed.

411  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S4 Setup [HD] on: October 15, 2014, 11:52:38 AM
Power supply replacement for the Antminer S4

Dear loyal customers,
Today we have found out that the batch of power supplies shipped out in batch 1 and the first part of batch 2 Antminer S4s contain a critical defect. The customized power supply produced by AplusPower Co. Ltd is suffering from an unacceptably high failure rate and will be replaced with immediate effect.
We take full responsibility for the problems caused and had not anticipated the unique loading conditions of a miner when selecting and testing the suitability of these power supplies. You can read more about the defect in the post below.
We are now taking steps to ensure that customers are impacted as little as possible. The rest of batch 2 S4s will come with the improved power supply as standard.

The following actions are being taken for miners already delivered:
1)  If your PSU has already failed:
•   Submit a RMA request with some pictures and proof [ie with your username in the photo] of your PSU’s failure to info@bitmaintech.com.
•   We will then ship a new PSU out as soon as possible.
•   We will also issue compensation to the value of 10 days of mining profit calculated starting from shipping date
2) If your PSU has not failed and the miner is running normally:
•   We will ship a new PSU to you.
•   Please do not contact support yet, you will receive an email asking to confirm your shipping.

Analysis of power supply failures within the first batch of Antminer S4s

We are sorry for the inconvenience you may have experienced regarding power supply failures, or even sporadic events of smoke from our first batch of Antminer S4s. We immediately set out to investigate the reports of failed power supplies from customers, and have made immediate changes to improve the quality of future deliveries. What happened with these power supplies is not acceptable.

The power supplies failed by two different mechanisms:

1) Failed TR1 or TR2 MOSFETs on the power factor correction (PFC) circuitry.

After investigations, it was found that the unusual service conditions a miner puts on its power supply was the cause of the failure. The repeated abrupt, dynamic loading generated significant current through the PFC circuits, eventually leading to the failure of the TR1 or TR2 MOSFETs.

The replacement power supplies have significantly upgraded PFC circuits in order to improve performance and prevent a recurrence of the problem.

2) Failed MOSFET on the output Synchronous rectifier circuit

A MOSFET on the output Synchronous rectification circuit was also found to be failing, due to the repeated and sudden load changes during the miners’ operation.

During normal operation, the output MOSFET is expected to carry a current of approximately 30A and operate at a surface temperature of around 80C. The failing MOSFET was found to be heating up significantly further than this, causing the carbonized black PCBs and smoking thermal pad.

It is worth noting that although a failed output MOSFET at high temperatures may result in some smoke from the PCB and thermal pad, it will not start a fire. All internal components of the PSU meet the requirements of the UL94-V0 flame retardancy standard, which certifies that any ignition will self-extinguish within a maximum of 10 seconds.

In response to this problem, the sample filter in the Synchronous rectifier circuits have been altered to erase the excessive current, and so the MOSFET will not fail again. In addition, several high temperature prevention circuits have been added which will better protect the power supply from overloading and excessive temperatures.

Moving forwards

We always perform significant dynamic testing on chosen power supplies, however in this case we failed to recognize the special conditions and specific loading characteristics the miner would place on the power supply. Our testing has been altered to replicate and include these loading characteristics on any power supplies introduced in the future. Once again, we are sorry.

Do we use the zadig drivers for the Avalon Nanos or is there a different driver?
These things are buggy that is for sure.

Nice work as usual. Cool
Do you have a link you could send me for the image I can test it out?

RPi image is complete. I've added Rockminer and ASICMiner forks to the default image. I have to say, I'm very impressed with the Minera interface.

Dashboard with one New Rbox attached.

Full terminal access from within the web interface. How cool is that?

Historical charts

Rockminer and ASICMiner forks added to list of supported miners

Also, I've tested the rbox on ASICMiners fork(4.6.0) and it appears to work just as well. So you should be able to run a Prisma, Tube and any Rockminer device, all in the same instance.
415  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [12000 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+NMC, Stratum, VarDiff, Private Servers on: October 08, 2014, 07:13:23 AM
It is a firmware issue.
They are working on it now.

And others say they don't work on Guild...I love how it seems ASICs are becoming even less consistent than their first generation units.
Occasionally they ping us after the fact and expect us to fix their problems.
...which is exactly what happened with the S4...

It turns out the controller is so low powered that it can only process ~30 shares per second which mean that unless diff is set higher, they work their way into a death spiral before diff catches up. Great...

So it's a hardware issue then?
416  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [12000 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+NMC, Stratum, VarDiff, Private Servers on: October 07, 2014, 07:37:28 AM
The S4 works great on BTCGuild. Just set difficulty for its worker to 2048.

Seems the new Bitmaintech S4's will only work on the Guild.......

Expect your hash rate to go up  Smiley

Glad to hear it all worked out.

I've been trying to get a hold of the people running the Golden Egg game. There's no registration link on the main page that I can see. All I see is the sign in link at the top, and no matter what link I click on in the entire site, there's no place to register. Someone please help. Thank you for you time Smiley

Edit, nvm, apparently I was looking on the wrong site? Either way, I found their registration through going to the link on their actual WAC page.
418  Economy / Securities / Re: [NastyFans.org] NASTY MINING | POOL | COINS on: October 06, 2014, 05:16:49 AM
They look great!
Nice job.

5oz NastyFans Seat Token Update (now accepting 20 preorders)

Here's the first look at our 5oz coins.  Some people have talked to me about getting their orders in ASAP due to concerns about a falling Bitcoin price.  Since I will not be placing the order until I have 20 of the coins preordered to help with costs, that leaves some of you watching as your saved bitcoin's value dwindles and me being hesitant to accept preorders as a volatile Bitcoin price could result in a disastrous scenario for preorders.  Pricing of the coins has been set at $400 and the 5 seats will be free for all who preorder.  If you do wish to preorder, I have been talked into accepting them as opposed to taking pledges, but it will come with some risk.  I have opened a bitfinex.com account and am willing to accept your BTC and hold it in USD until the order is ready to be placed.  This will allow those of you who want to spend your BTC now the ability to do so and it will allow me to begin taking a count of preorders so that fans can have a good idea of when the order will actually be placed.  It does however put your funds at the risk of a 3rd party.  If bitfinex goes through a mtgox type scenario while we are awaiting placing the order, I cannot accept responsibility.  Please contact me if you are fine with that risk and want to preorder before the BTC price falls any further.  For the rest of you, I will keep you updated when we get close to the 20 preordered coins so that you can order with BTC direct from me without any 3rd party risk at that time should you choose to do so.

As you can see, the increased size of a 5oz coin allowed for a new added design on the back (hologram superimposed for look).  Another addition to this coin will be that it is being minted in proof-like quality.  Due to this, the coins will ship to me individually packaged instead of in rolls, so they should be much more free from scratches.
419  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [12000 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+NMC, Stratum, VarDiff, Private Servers on: October 06, 2014, 05:10:18 AM
I agree.
It makes no sense.

And others say they don't work on Guild...I love how it seems ASICs are becoming even less consistent than their first generation units.
That's because more and more of them doing their drivers and cgminer forks all themselves and don't involve us any more. Occasionally they ping us after the fact and expect us to fix their problems. It's a bizarre hardware+software disconnect landscape...
420  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ROCKMINER ASIC miner official thread on: October 06, 2014, 05:03:43 AM
I'm here I look forward to meeting you both in person finally after many interviews via email this will be nice.

Update:

I ,Alex and Eric will attend the Las Vegas conference from 5th to 10th Oct.
Rockminer welcomes all of you to visit our booth to talk about cooperation or complain what we did not good enough!!!!
