So this being the case, does this mean that if I in future move any funds out of cold storage, I need to back up my wallet again?
YES.

If the client you use does that (send the change to a new address) then YES, you have to reprint it. This is an important thing often overlooked.

1)Good luck, this is not e-gold, this is not paypal. There is not a company, central server or anything similar in the bitcoin network. It is totally decentralized.
2)Try selling bitcoins on mt-gox and getting cash, call us when you finally receive it...
10)Not our problem. Wrong section. Ask to Obama.

Please show source of Satoshi owning a 6th of all bitcoins?
Who mined coins in 2009? Satoshi and, at most, some other people, note how difficulty was stuck at 1 for like a year or so, this means only one or so cpu were mining.
486  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-11-23 - NYTimes Blog - Study Suggests Link Between DPR and Satoshi on: November 25, 2013, 05:30:06 PM
This is a method of trying to discredit Bitcoon by trying to tie Satoshi to DPR. Then they can try and tarnish the whole thing by smearing him.
+1

An absurd attempt, it shows how much desperate they are

You forgot fees. Millions of transactions means tons and tons of fees.

493  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why would anyone spend their coins? on: November 22, 2013, 10:58:24 PM
Because tomorrow the bitcoin price can happily crash. When you are in a bubble, you should sell/use the coins before the crash  Smiley

Also, the price in the long term increase BECAUSE people use coins.

495  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: question about 'synchronization' of my bitcoin wallet on: November 22, 2013, 10:31:29 PM

is it because the synchronization is not finished ?
Yes, so stay calm  Smiley

What is that ?
You installed the Bitcoin-QT client, it is a full node client, it means that it not only act as a wallet but it also download the FULL blockchain of bitcoin, wich means every transactions done and relay it to other nodes. The bitcoin network is a p2p one, so the full nodes relay all the transactions between them.

Quote
It takes a lot of time
Yes, it is downloading more than 10GB of data and verifying them all.

Note that you do not need to have a full node, it is meant for people who want to run it constantly, having a full node when you use it only for 5minutes every some days is pointless. Get Multibit for example, much much quicker, for the same security

Oh and make sure you backup your wallet, have no virus on the pc and learnt about how to securely store your coins!
496  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why isn't wikipedia accepting bitcoin? on: November 22, 2013, 03:56:15 PM

498  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [2013-11-21] Alpha Technologies Announces ASIC Miners for Litecoin are Coming on: November 21, 2013, 01:13:39 PM
Wasn't that the thing that made Litecoin different from Bitcoin?
Why should not be ASIC for litecoins? Everything that run on a computer can run on specialized hardware. It runs on generic hardware, why the hell should it NOT run on specialized one?
499  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Safe to give wallet backup to a friend? on: November 20, 2013, 09:25:31 PM
Truecrypt can use AES, Serpent and/or Twofish. You can use them all together. As for hash algorithm you can choose between RIPEMD-160, SHA-512 and Whirpool
500  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Safe to give wallet backup to a friend? on: November 20, 2013, 09:18:04 PM
zip/rar the encrypted wallet file with a password

so 1) encrypted wallet file 2) encrypted zip file/rar file holding the wallet file

this will prevent your friend from being able to see your balances and transactions. unless you don't care + extra secuirty
Maybe you should use Truecrypt instead of zip/rar
