Is Evonet functionality on testnet ?

Like can developers try out these JSON DAPI calls and the stuff described in "Start building with Dash Platform" ?

....ah, you mean Evonet IS a testnet. It's just not got the word "test" in its name. Whereas "Testnet" is a test upgrade of mainnet that we have at the moment.

Is that it ?

Correct, that is it. In a way you can see Testnet as a fork of Mainnet.

Dash developers and other developers interested in Dash Platform have been testing, improving and developing Dash Platform on Evonet for over a year now.
They connect to Evonet through a Javascript Dash SDK and use Javascript code in their scripts. Dash Platform on Evonet got like 5 updates within a year, each time wiping out stored data
on Evonet and starting with a blank state. Even users had the opportunity to try it out, i think they still can by following the tutorials : https://dashplatform.readme.io/docs/tutorials-introduction
Here are some concept Dapp's that Dapp devs worked on or where bounties are still for in place : https://dashincubator.app/output

Release schedule is like this : Evonet (public testnet for Dash devs, other interested Dapp developers and interested users) --> Testnet (public testnet for Dash end-users and DCG devs) ---> Mainnet
We moved from Evonet (12 months of testing behind us now) to Testnet (estimated 3 months of testing ahead of us) and in Q1, 2021 we will hopefully move to release on Mainnet.

I am just curious how they plan to test Dash Platform on Testnet and how users with little experience in javascript / node.js can participate in this new testing phase on Testnet.
Maybe they provide us with some tools to make that more easy. Or maybe Dash Platform on Testnet will be more for developers testing it there and less intended for the end-users.

Update : looks like the Javascript Dash SDK that is mentioned in the tutorial that focus on connecting to Dash Platform, will connect to Testnet by default now per version 0.17.0 :

Source : https://dashplatform.readme.io/docs/tutorials-introduction

So they changed the Javascript Dash SDK to connect to Testnet instead of Evonet. Looks like the testing of Dash Platform on Testnet will be pretty similar then, to testing Dash Platform on Evonet.
We will still need to use the Javascript Dash SDK for that.

Another more simple way of testing Dash Platform elements is by using the Dash Chrome wallet, which either installs as an extension to browsers or installs as a Stand-Alone Desktop version (Windows, Linux, Mac). It is already updated to connect to Testnet, with its latest v1.7.0

Evonet is more focused towards developers...
Dash Testnet is more focused i think towards endusers...

ok, TX !

So there are 3 networks, not 2 ? Testnet, Evonet and Mainnet ?

Yep. Although Evonet is a different kind of network and uses a different coding language (Javascript / Node.js).
I consider it more a Dash Platform-specific testing network for devs --> https://blog.dash.org/announcing-the-release-of-dash-platform-on-evonet-c5a94dee0e59
There is also Dash Devnet, which i think can be used by other crypto projects as well for testing and developing their own crypto projects --> https://blog.dash.org/dash-devnets-bc27ecbf0085

Most crypto projects that forked from Bitcoin and that i know of, only use Mainnet and Testnet. Which has its limitations for developers.
123  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: December 31, 2020, 01:57:46 PM

What's the difference ?

To me that stuff looks like what prospective devs would want to know. It's all beautifully laid out.

Evonet is more focused towards developers, providing them with tools to develop their own Dapps and improve the underlaying foundation (Dash Platform)
Dash Testnet is more focused i think towards endusers, and is normally tested through different test binaries (Windows / Mac / Linux) that gets available to users.

Instead of connecting to Dash Mainnet, a testnet environment is created that has its own blockchain, runs on tdash and uses its own test binary.
Testnet is also a lot bigger then Evonet, so testing can be done on a much larger scale. All people really have to do to get on testnet is add -testnet=1 in their shortcut
(in target, behind the .exe) or put testnet=1 in their dash.conf
That will trigger the creation of the testnet environment.

I still have difficulty understanding how Dash Platform can be tested on our public Dash Testnet exactly.
I do understand how Dash Platform can be tested on Evonet (i played with it a bit, awhile back).

Normally Dash Testnet gets its binaries from Github and get distributed to users for testing purposes in here : https://www.dash.org/forum/topic/testing.53/
They are normally binaries that are a software version ahead of Dash Mainnet.

Why don't you link directly to the docs ? This seems like an enormous body of work.

That is testing Dash Platform through Dash Evonet by using Dash Javascript.
I suspect testing Dash Platform on Testnet is something different, at least i assume it is.

I heard dash is widely used in colombia is that right some stats?

Maybe this will help : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNjKP5JsGwI
Edit : it looks to be a video that was released in 2019 and re-posted recentely.

I don't have statistics, but i suspect there is still a Dash team on the ground in Colombia.
300 merchants was mentioned in that video of 2019, i can't confirm that number.

We used to have a statistics site that showed statistics per country, but after the Dash Force proposal got no longer funded in 2019 that site was no longer maintained.
This is the site i am talking about : https://discoverdash.com/location/colombia-2/ & https://discoverdash.com/stats/ (both not maintained for a long time now, data to be considered out of date).
Also from 2019 (and also to be considered out of date by now) : https://dashnews.org/analyzing-preliminary-dash-merchant-transaction-data-in-five-top-countries/

Looking at our most recent Dash Core Group Quarterly Call (Q3 2020) : https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/dash-core-group-q3-quarterly-call-29-10-2020.50832/
(see presentation slides in the edit there), it looks like Dash Core Group main focus is (and has been for awhile now) on Venezuela. There are currently no specific Colombia-focused
Dash community budget proposals getting funded that i am aware of, that could be used to gather statistics from.

So your very short and to the point question, is getting a bit of a unsatisfactory (even to me) answer. We are simply missing the resources right now to provide accurate statistics
about Dash usage in Colombia.

Well, I couldn't resist. Faced with this new stage, we will see if it is shit or something relevant in the future. I have bought my son 10 dash for under $ 100 each.

Greetings to all and happy entry into 2021

Happy and healthy 2021

Release Announcement: Dash Platform v0.17 & DashPay on Testnet
Source : https://blog.dash.org/release-announcement-dash-platform-v0-17-dashpay-on-testnet-13a85225902e

From an idea, to a concept, to code, to adjustments, to devnet & evonet, to a stable alpha codebase, to be released on Testnet.
This is an important milestone for Dash.

Quote
Testnet is the Dash network’s most formal testing environment, a critical stop on the path to mainnet. Releasing to testnet is important because the environment is
almost 5x larger than Evonet, which provides a better opportunity to test the platform at scale. This is the biggest deployment of Dash Platform, and consequently, this release
marks the most significant milestone in the realization of Dash’s long term vision for mainstream adoption.

Important Github release notes links that just came alive :

Lets all test the hell out of it on Testnet.

I am waiting on some instructions or clarification on how to test Dash Platform (or specific parts of Dash Platform) on Testnet.
The DashPay Wallet Dapp seems more easy to test, it has already an Alpha Program running through https://www.dash.org/dashpay-alpha-program/ and will be updated in the following days.

Quote
After a successful deployment to testnet, a new version of the DashPay wallet for Android and iOS will also be released to DashPay Alpha Program users in the following days.
This flagship application demonstrates the power of Dash Platform to facilitate industry-leading user experiences for cryptocurrency applications, ones that are visually indistinguishable from centralized offerings. These user experiences are facilitated by decentralized application data storage, an alternative to Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud Platform,
where user data is secure and not monetized for advertising profit.

Coinbase to Suspend XRP Trading Following SEC Suit Against Ripple
https://www.coindesk.com/coinbase-suspends-xrp-trading

Source : messari.io

I am just glad that Ryan Taylor (CEO of Dash Core Group) contacted the SEC long before this all came out and provided information about Dash to them directly,
building a very strong legal case that Dash is not a security, while trying to get a ‘no-action’ letter from SEC. He engaged with the SEC somewhere in 2019 i think.

Source : https://www.cryptonewsz.com/dash-ceo-elaborates-on-communication-with-sec-reiterates-dash-is-not-a-security/

Bonuspoints for being pro-active in that area. Investors in XRP are getting rippled to little pieces right now, as more and more large exchanges are delisting XRP,
just to protect themselves from the SEC.

It is the same pro-active attitude from DCG that got us ChainLocks, which provide the Dash network with protection against 51% attacks. The upcoming Dash Platform
release (Q1, 2021) and its accompanied Dashpay Dapp (Q1, 2021) also show a pro-active focus on providing ease of use to users and merchants, while at the same time
expanding Dash use case.

The only thing i find DCG lacking with regards to being pro-active, is Dash marketing. Hopefully that will be fixed, once the open position for Marketing within Dash Core Group is filled.
Dash PR is okay for now in my opinion, Dash Marketing needs work and attention. Dash Marketing should in my opinion be regarded as a critical component, even (or especially) during bear markets.

I wonder if we are witnessing the blow-off-top of the Bitcoin price right now or will it recover and pass $30,000 ?
Stay tuned, as this could affect altcoins (it could trigger a diversification flow into altcoins).

ETA : Three Days
After crash and fud, big news is coming. Thank you for the pre announcement for the big event, qwizzie. I am shocked to see many fuds in the 2 pages of the topic. The big event will wipe them out.

I load up a few DASH 2 hour ago and I wish the even will help price climb back to 0.0064 BTC for one DASH. It will not be a x2 investment but I will satisfy with the target.

Just ignore those nasty little bugs flying around in here.
I do.

1 : current value of investment - cost of investment divided by cost of investment --> which you keep referring to
2 : the approx return on investment if purchased at the time of launch (or earliest known price) --> which coinmarketcap and other sources reference

Are those two the same type of ROI ?

Yes. They are the same.

"the approx return on investment if purchased at the time of launch (or earliest known price)" = (current value of investment - cost of investment) divided by cost of investment

Okay, then i was mistaken in that area. I thought coinmarketcap calculated ROI differently, and that it was therefore a different type of ROI that they just gave their own definition.
134  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: December 21, 2020, 04:44:29 PM
Does that mean you think coinmarketcap is scammy in their definition of ROI ?

What are you talking about ?

coimerketcap's definition is correct. Yours is wrong.

They have the cost of the Dash the denominator. You have the Dash itself on the denominator.

Are both ROI's calculated the same way ? Does coinmarketcap calculate their ROI % also as 'current value of investment - cost of investment divided by cost of investment' ?
And what about coinmarketcap's different definition of ROI ? We currently have two very different looking definitions :

1 : current value of investment - cost of investment divided by cost of investment --> which you keep referring to in pictures
2 : the approx return on investment if purchased at the time of launch (or earliest known price) --> which coinmarketcap and other sources reference

Are those two the same type of ROI ?

135  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: December 21, 2020, 04:29:58 PM
There is only one definition of "ROI" and the clue is in the words "Return" on "Investment".
If "other people are doing it" then "other people" are equally scammy.

Does that mean you think coinmarketcap is scammy in their definition of ROI ?

Source : https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dash/historical-data/

It is certainly not ROI in the form of 'return of gain from investment divided by cost of investment' as you referenced in an earlier post.
To be precise, this one :

136  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash (dash.org) | First Self-Funding Self-Governing Crypto Currency on: December 21, 2020, 01:44:03 PM

How can we complain about the "scammer" label ?

Why even worry about that label ? People are abusing that label left and right on this forum when they are upset about something or disagree with someone, even you have been doing that.
Only trolls still use that label on Dash itself, and a whole lot less then in the past, so far i can tell.

ROI is becoming a bit of a trigger word for you it seems, eventhough it has been used in cryptospace for many many many years now. With different definitions.
Here is a ROI definition that coinmarketcap has been using for cryptocurrencies (not just Dash) from the start : https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dash/

Does this mean coinmarketcap is scamming anyone with how they use the ROI term in cryptospace ? Of course not.

ROI usage i found so far :

* Calculate the price performance of cryptocurrencies over a certain time period or earliest known price (crypto defintion)
* Calculate the return on masternodes collateral / shared masternodes collateral / staking projects / DeFi projects (crypto definition)
* Calculate the return of gain from investment divided by cost of investment in FIAT (traditional definition)

I am pretty sure investors understand there is more then one definition of ROI circulating in cryptospace. Only you seems to be surprised by it and are now (after all this time) trying to make a big deal about it.
That is what i call being late to the party, particularly with you being a masternode operator for all these years. Surely you have come across the different ROI definitions before ?

Yeah, its related to Dash price being $112.7703 or higher. Currently it is still fluctuating a bit between green and red.
