May I put myself in line for a Jalapeņo or mini little on first batch?

wut?    Huh
it does not appear that you understand what Garr is offering here.
he's offering a service, not a preorder.

Yes, maxcarjuzaa, if someone else is willing to sell you their spot. Abracadabra is correct in that I am only facilitating the transfer of the preorder.

1028  Economy / Services / Garr's ASIC Preorder Resale Escrow on: December 13, 2012, 03:08:52 AM
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

Hey all,

I've noticed on this board in particular that there are quite a few people who end up not making deals because of the lack of long term trust, so I'm here to help!

I'm one of the more trusted of the bitcointalkers, and I've done quite a few escrows in the past, some being as much as $4500 USD (not to mention I manage tens of thousands in other peoples' mining hardware). For those of you who aren't familiar with me and want some references, the Cognitive thread is a good place to start. Here's a link to the most recent commendations: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=67547.msg1387605#msg1387605
Beyond that, check out my post history and -OTC ratings. (Same handle and GPG key)

The escrow process and terms here will be simple:
1) Both parties come to an agreement
2) Contact me via the forum or escrow@c64.name to finalize this.

Include:
   -   Buyer's mailing and bitcoin addresses. This will NOT be changed without GPG*
   -   Seller's bitcoin address to release funds. This will NOT be changed without GPG*
   -   Item list
   -   Email addresses
   -   Any other information you find pertinent.
* If you commence all communications to me via GPG signed messages, I will allow you to change your address via a signed message from the same key requesting to do so. This is recommended in case you move or lose access to your private key.

3) I will upload a document containing this information and provide both parties with the link. (Buyer's physical address can be withheld upon request)
4) I will provide the buyer with a bitcoin address, then after payment, add "Payment received" and sign the previously uploaded document.
5) When you receive the ASIC from BFL, there are two options, please specify "Shipping option 1" or "Shipping option 2" in your agreement:
   -   1) I provide seller with my mailing address, and he/she sends to me, then I send to the buyer. (My shipping costs will be deducted from bitcoins that will be sent to seller)
   -   2) I provide seller with buyer's mailing address, and the package is sent directly.
6) Buyer verifies that he/she has received the package, and I release coins to the specified seller's address.

If there are any disputes, I will use my fair judgement to determine where the coins go. Although this would be in an extremely rare case: If we cannot determine the outcome of a dispute, all coins will be donated to Bitcoin100. (Search the forum if you aren't familiar)
If you would like, you can agree on and include an expiration date for this escrow, where if the ASIC has not been shipped from BFL by this date, the escrow is canceled and funds are returned.
I reserve the right to cancel the escrow and return coins to the buyer at any time before the ASIC has been shipped by BFL. (I will probably only do this if they haven't shipped by June 2013)

My flat fee for this service is 1% of the coins sent to me, so please factor this into your agreement with the other party.

Cheers,
Garrett

1029  Economy / Securities / Re: Starting a new FPGA mining farm/contract! Cognitive Resurrected on [BTC-TC] on: December 13, 2012, 02:46:09 AM
Is there any way Cognitive could set up a Dividend Reinvestment Plan (DRIP), where share are not held on any exchange and any dividends that would go to the shareholder instead go to purchasing new shares?

Burnside just said he will add this to his TODO list, so this will be able to happen on-exchange.

In case you didn't catch it earlier, I get an email list of shareholders' emails and shares owned every 12 hours, which significantly reduces my concern when it comes to keeping shares on-exchange.

Cheers,
Garrett

Do you send an actual card or just the code?

I've just been sending the codes via the intertubes. If you want the actual card, say, to give as a gift, I have them and will be happy to mail them.
1031  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: $10 Reward for answering some questions on: December 12, 2012, 03:40:18 AM
I really don't need the $10, and I enjoy educating people about bitcoin and helping them learn.  Go ahead and keep the cash, and instead "pay it forward".  Meaning, the next time you have an option to help someone out (even if it inconveniences you a bit) or leave them to deal with a situation on their own, take the time to help them.  It makes the world a better place for all of us, it costs you almost nothing, and it's worth a lot more than $10.

+1
1032  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: $10 Reward for answering some questions on: December 12, 2012, 03:19:09 AM
I'll be giving $10 through paypal for a thought out/clear answer. Maybe more. Don't be a smartass, I just want answers.

My friend and I have gotten interested in bitcoin mining. We're noobs, but at least we've read the documentation and other stuff, so we have a basic idea of how it works. We also have money.

We're looking to buy dedicated mining hardware

1) Is buying an ASIC stupid? Why or why not?

2) How fucked will the economy be in early-mid 2013 when FPGAs and ASICs become more widespread? Will investing in mining hardware even be profitable?

3) How would my friend and I go about sharing the bitcoins we've mined with each other? Can the same wallet/address reside on multiple machines, or will I have to send coins to my friend's address? Would an online wallet be good for us?

5) How often should we cash out, as in sell our btc? I understand the longer you hold on to btc, the more "value" it will have, but is it really worth waiting long?

7) Right now we're looking at the BitForce 'Little' Single SC (30 Gh/s for $649 @ http://www.butterflylabs.com/pre-order-form-bitforce-little-single-sc/) and the bASIC NextGen Bitcoin Miner (36 Gh/s for $599 @ https://www.bitcoinasic.net/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=50). Which one should we get?

Any other tips/thoughts?

1) No. ASIC mining will be the way to go when they are actually released, which will likely be the first bit of 2013.

2) Buying an ASIC then will likely be comparable to buying a GPU rig a few months ago.

3) You could use the same wallet.dat, but it would be easier to just send the coins to your friend's account every so often. I advise keeping your coins off of third party services, and only use the clients found at bitcoin.org

5) I would advise against selling bitcoins mined, because the more widely used it is, the more it will be worth. Perhaps sell whatever your initial investment was after earning that much back, but I would definitely keep whatever you can in btc.

7) To my knowledge, neither has shown more proof of a working ASIC over the other. Read the forums and talk to the companies, then go with your gut. It is very likely that they will both deliver, it is just a matter of when.

Tips appreciated 1Garr2555P4oiAaLQqXkcdAKGg4SMt3RZS
If you don't have any coins yet, I'll accept you closing your paypal account as a tip Tongue

Cheers,
Garrett

Edit: I should also mention that investing in mining operations managed by other people is an excellent route for a multitude of reasons. I run Cognitive.

Edit2: Actually donate to wikipedia if you only have paypal... http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Donate

Thanks guys, I'm glad you're all happy with how this got sorted out!

Also, James has been really good about replying to me lately, and I'm happy to say that after the claims that have already been submitted, there will be less than 100 Cognitive shares in limbo Smiley
