501  Other / Off-topic / Re: How many cats are on this bed? (count carefully) on: August 17, 2017, 06:17:28 AM
Post an up to date picture of the bed and I should be able to tell you with more confidence the number of cats on the bed.

503  Other / Off-topic / Re: Secret of Happiness on: August 17, 2017, 02:44:42 AM
First of all practice radical acceptance:  learn to accept the things you cannot change.  Accept what has happened in your past.

Make sure you are meeting all of your needs, not just one or two.  These include emotional and social needs as well as physical needs.

- Take care of physical ailments, exercise, abstain from drugs and alcohol, get enough sleep, and eat well.

- Tend to your relationships.

- One of our needs is accomplishment.  Get out there and do something with your life.  If this is making money then make money.

- But another need is to have fun.  Have fun.

- Some needs take hard work to meet.  Learn to do the hard things.  Embrace discomfort for the greater good.  People who choose comfort early end up uncomfortable later while those who do uncomfortable things early end up comfortable later.  You don't want to grow old with regret.

It has been almost two years since I last smoked.

Mindfulness helps.  When you do end up smoking again be mindful of the smoke entering your lungs, the opposite of fresh air.

I just stopped really wanting to.

Oh and find a partner who doesn't like it as well.  My girlfriend would kill me.

Thats probably the bigger reason.

506  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Ziber.io is a scam! DO NOT INVEST!! Now CONFIRMED! Doors are now closed - HAHAHA on: July 29, 2017, 01:58:53 PM
Even if it is not a scam that github codebase is horrendous.  The software engineer in me (yes I eat them) couldn't help but cringe a few times looking at it.  Someone needs a code review.
(cryptic 'shorthand' variables, very long functions with 4 or 5 levels of if else nesting, etc)
507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ICO] Bitclave - Decentralized Search ★ July, 25. Pre-Sale ★ on: July 28, 2017, 02:44:48 AM
I would like to point out that this project in no way seeks to build a search engine such as Google which indexes the web.  The search system is confined to their 'ecosystem'.  It would be neat if an ethereum based decentralized web crawling and search system was implemented, where you could gain tokens by offering your computer to crawl and index the web, but this outside the scope of this project.  The idea of using blockchain to record user interests to help with connect businesses to consumers is neat - but it will take quite awhile for this to result in an ecosystem of any significant size.

I am curious about what machine learning/recommender system technologies they will make use of.

(for everyone who thinks it is going to be a decentralized Google)
508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is the first sign of a scam project (ico) for you? on: July 24, 2017, 02:09:56 AM

I think that this would be great.  Or come up with a weighted analysis that allows the community to provide an overall ranking (score) for ICO's.

Seems like a lot of ICO's scams are giving a bad rep to those that are actually trying to help create real authentic solutions for this world.  Ultimately, this hurts the entire industry including the growth of cryptocurrency.  We need to collectively come together as a community to report and discourage scams as much as possible.  Otherwise, it cripples the growth of this industry and hurts all of us...  Embarrassed

That might get a little messy as shillers would abuse the ranking system.  Even if you have people rank the 'rankers' fake accounts can be created to manipulate this process.  Bitcointalk trust scores may help but other precautions should be taken.  How can this be set up in a way which it cannot be manipulated?

For now though I am just going to have fun doing the data mining on my own based on whatever features I can extract from ICO websites.  Bitcointalk announcement threads would be a great source of data but I am unsure of their site scraping policy.  Need to check on that first.  I am currently compiling a list of ICOs and their urls from several ICO sites but I will eventually need to label which ones are scams.  Another thing to predict will be overall success - we can use market cap a certain period after launch but my main interest is in scam modeling.  I will get back to bitcointalk in a few days with the next steps.  Once preliminary results are in we can all try to identify further features to use in the data mining/machine learning process to create more sophisticated models.

As for the idea that scammers will use threads like this to improve their technique the field of 'adversarial machine learning' comes to mind.  It can sometimes be a cat and mouse game - as they modify their approach we will need to continue to develop better detection strategies.  It is a valid concern though.  The model used to detect and classify attacks/scams should not necessarily be published, BUT detection and classification of scams/attacks does need to occur.

509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is the first sign of a scam project (ico) for you? on: July 23, 2017, 01:27:08 PM
I have been considering doing some data mining to build a model to predict scam ICOs based on a number of features we can extract from their websites and BCT threads.   I would need to compile a list of scams versus non scams and then do some data gathering but building a classifier wouldn't be too hard (thank you Kaggle contests) using decision trees or other standard methods.

Anyways, my hypothesis is that coins which offer real high 'early investor' bonuses will be scams.  People do this to take advantage of greed as it causes people to jump right in without a chance for discussion or proper research.  If it is a legit project then they do not need to use this tactic.  While this is not always the case as there have been successful projects which did this my gut tells me scammers will do this.

Then there is the presence of shilling.  I am currently doing another project with Amazon reviews to detect shilling (and shillers) so may have to come back to this.  A product with actual mixed reviews will have a different distribution of ratings as a product with shilling where two disjoint clusters of review scores form.  Sentiment analysis methods can be used to assist with this, along with some semantic analysis.

Then we have poor spelling, quickly written up webpages, short whitepapers, unrealistic claims, no escrow etc.  BUT NOT ALWAYS.  For example some scams have escrow just to throw people off.

It is good to be back Bitcointalk..  Maybe its time to start calling out scams again to keep my peeps safe.
510  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HODL] HOdlcoin 4267% APR - DGW on: February 06, 2016, 05:42:56 PM
I was successfully able to add Nyancoin to Cryptopia. Might not be a bad place to start exchange wise.

HODL needs no exchange.

That attitude would really discourage me from even playing around with this coin (even if it is just a joke coin).    One of the only interesting thing about these types of coins is seeing how it does on an exchange given the high interest rates.  Also it opens all sorts of doors for manipulation and scamming. Tongue

SO yeah.  HODL needs an exchange!

So yeah, about that 'Early May' deadline for requesting a refund..

That means that we should....

*counts fingers*

..yeah, we should be getting our refunds like ...

*counts fingers again*

.... yeah, like last month..

I just don't understand coming on and taunting us.  We believed there was potential for a project and now eXo is mocking us.
Aren't you happy enough with just the money?    What is with the sadism?

I just don't understand sadistic people.  He must have had a very shitty upbringing.   Obviously he is fucked in the head.

They aren't professionals. We could track them, but seems I am the only one interested.
I will keep on tracking them relentlessly on my spare time. I am sure I will find them eventually. But since nobody else is interested, I will probably stop once I receive my stolen funds.

Oh,  I am interested as well, there is just not too much I can do over here.

The only information I have is his originating IP address when he was sending out support requests.  He changed it later to no longer show the originating ID, but at least one of my mails has this included in the header:

Received: from 84.151.100.14 ([84.151.100.14])

84.151.100.14 was registered to him.  It originates in Germany, connected with the Deutsche Telekom Agency, and a number of Geolocation based IP lookup services indicate Diepholz area but they can be off.

I have contacted various places associated with his web server and IP but they cannot do much without a court order due to confidentiality type of things.  Just for shits and giggles, and to feel a little better, I reported him to th German equivalent of FBI and some German securities place with nice letters explaining there was someone commiting fraud in their country.

What else can I do?  I have been making weak attemtps at making connections and finding more (going through message histories of those involved) but am not sure if I will find much.

I am curious how involved the moderator of reddit/r/exocoin is as they left a lot of identifiable clues,  but they could just be another sucker like most of us here

Edit:  I had such a huge hope that the hackers who took over BitcoinTalk did so to get IP addresses of all the scammers.
513  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GEO] GeoCoin | GIS & GeoTechnologies on: April 04, 2015, 06:39:51 PM
There is a time. 3 days to the release  of geocaching is enough to accumulate some cheap coins.

I prefer to wait... We didn't see anything about this geolocation thing yet .
Don't forget what happened with Checkcoin. Sad

Implementation of location based faucets based on GPS for smartphone use is relatively simple and not that difficult of a project.  Awhile back when I was talking with some of the Geocoin team about GPS based faucets (working on a similar project) the main problem seemed to be to effectively prevent spoofing, and several people were already discussing a number of possible solutions.

The people I was talking to seemed very dedicated and excited at the time, and this was before they announced so it wasn't about generating hype.  This project has been in the works for long time and I am excited to see what they are doing with the technology.

Aside from just geocaching, location based faucets have so much potential for bringing actual utility to a coin, as we have discussed in this thread.

To reiterate some potential business models and just fun ideas:    merchants establishing location based faucets to bring customers,  location based faucets giving out coins near the end of hiking trails as a fitness oriented app - but unlike 'fitbit' the coins have trading value,  location based faucets as part of GPS based RPG's and games (working on a GPS based crafting and resource gathering RPG), geocaching!, coins for events, treasure hunts, etc.

I am very excited about this technology.  If Geocoin launches we can have a huge coinhunt this summer as a way to gain interest.

So about those refunds....   Anyone get any reply yet?

It has been 4 days now since I requested mine, you would think looking up refund requester's donation amounts and sending them their coins would only take a few minutes, right?

I am glad they are doing the right thing, but these guys should be working their asses off to get us our refunds after how they treated us.

I have around 1Bilion of GPUC , someone knows what i can do with them ?
Give to the church ?

This is dead ages ago stop posting!!

Swap those coins for CCB CryptoCoinClub

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=667866.0;topicseen
hm is this still viable?

Yes it is, please go to the thread and let this die

Just out of curiosity, if the fact that people post in this thread once in a while bothers you so much, why in the heck do you pay attention to it?? Ignore it. Turn off your notification. Stop checking in every time someone posts. No one has to "stop posting", "and let this die", just because it irks you in some way. And why does it?

Sometimes a coin gets revitalized through a takeover that's only made possible by people continuing to posts in a thread.

Blablabla, this coin was a scam and loads of people lost money, including me, and it deserves nothing but death

What sucks is that it proved at the time that a person could set up a fraudulent business based on cryptocoins, connected to their real name, and the authorities at the time would not do anything about it because it was not big enough to interest them. (I reported his fraud to whoever I could)  Basically the lack of prosecution gave a green light to scammers and since then hundreds of scam operations popped up.  It was blatant fraud.

I don't mind beating this dead horse myself,  hopefully every now and then Jaymes at least gets a little nervous about being in the fraud game.  Sadly he is probably enjoying his stolen coins like an immoral little prick who does not understand the concept of hurting people.
516  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GEO] GeoCoin | GIS & GeoTechnologies on: January 30, 2015, 01:39:07 AM
This is by far the most dumb and idiot start off every.
If you guys were serious developers you guys would have already a website finished.
There is nothing but a bullshit forked [Suspicious link removed]d luck.

developers my ass.

I was doing a similar concept last year with 'Landmarks' but passed my project off due to grad school (I wonder what happened to the geocaching guys?) I really do wish they put more time into this before attempting to launch, as the concept could have been awesome,  both as a fun way to use coins for smartphones and as a successful business model.   It just seems half-put-together.

I will still use this if I can,  just make sure to make it fun and spend a decent amount of time establishing physical faucets at interesting places and landmarks.
517  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NxtChg/Simcoin is a scam on: January 20, 2015, 06:48:02 AM
I am pretty damn sure this guy is a scammer.  There are now 3 significant signs for me.

The dev is not responding to any form of communication, so I am assuming that have abandoned this project or it was a scam since we are well past deadline.  The dev did promise full refunds to any investor.  For some reason I did not do escrow myself so I have no other option but to wait.  Hopefully one day these scam devs will be charged and rot away like the thieves they are.   If the dev was just behind schedule he wouldn't be avoiding people.   I hope I am wrong. Tongue

In the rare case that the dev got over his head, can he please speak to us about it?

Dev:  Is there some complication that we need to know?  Have you spent all the money without finishing development?  In that case I would offer my own time to get things going, and I am sure others would as well.

I asked for a refund to the dev because I am pretty much broke these days and the deadline is over - and have not received a reply.  It is sad.  I trust in people to much.
