641  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / How many transactions do YOU have? on: July 18, 2011, 01:53:46 AM
While chatting in my mining pool's IRC, I am constantly surprised to find that many miners, the foundation on the bitcoin ecosystem, don't even use BTC for anything.

I'm a miner.  I'm a speculator.  I'm a merchant (well, I have some stuff for sale on http://bitcoinharbor.com/).  I found out about bitcoin about a month ago and i love it.

I have 132 transactions in my day-to-day wallet (my mining income goes to my secure wallet).  Mostly, those transactions are gambling, because that's what I find fun.

How many transactions do YOU have, and what "kind" are they?  Purchases, gambling, donations, etc?

644  Economy / Trading Discussion / MtGox and the Euro - is it resolved? on: July 18, 2011, 01:14:17 AM
For the last week or so, MtGox has been in the process of changing banks for Euro transfers.  This has prevented any new Euro from entering the market.

Is this resolved?  When can we expect traders using Euro to be able to trade again?  (By that, I mean move Euro in and take BTC out)

Thanks
645  Economy / Gambling / Re: What's your favorite game? on: July 17, 2011, 10:39:41 PM
imo dont play the blackjack game.

i've lost 5btc there. it runs on a modified set of rules that are rigged for the dealer (dealer only gets one card, no splitting)

I'm working on a Blackjack game. Here's a screenshot:

It already supports unlimited splitting, and double-after-split. One deck only, but it gets shuffled every hand.

You're the guy with the video poker, right?  That game is well done.  If you make a blackjack, with standard Las Vegas rules, that plays as well as the video poker, I will play it all the time.

Keep us updated.
646  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Detailed Calculator on: July 17, 2011, 07:11:34 PM
Much better than before.  Nice work.

However, The next predicted difficulty is only 1.64M

I understand how you've calculated, but it would be cool if we could enter a difficulty % ourselves.

[edit]  I'm blind. Its already there
647  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New Bitcoin MarketPlace - Reliable, Instant, Cash to BTC Options on: July 17, 2011, 01:47:08 AM
I don't see any Bitcoin references there.  It' s not in the list of currency.
648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Want Bitcoin to have a real user/merchant support site? on: July 17, 2011, 01:43:50 AM
OK, I joined.  Now what?  It's not clear what the next step is.  I see a list of questions, but they do not seem Bitcoin specific.
649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I received my free Yubikey from MtGox today on: July 16, 2011, 06:51:15 PM
What were the requirements to get a free one?

I had a trade nullified by the rollback after the hack.
650  Economy / Gambling / Re: What can I do to get people interested in BITFU? on: July 16, 2011, 07:45:52 AM
This is the bitcoin betting fighting game?

Because I suck at fighting games.

I gamble at more traditional gambling games - black jack, ponzi, and this new minesweeper thing (in my sig).

but then, I'm old, and new things scare me.
651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you guys want Bitcoin to heat up again .... on: July 16, 2011, 07:08:52 AM
Or, let Europeans transfer Euros to MtGox.   Grin

Which has not been allowed this whole past week.
652  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / I received my free Yubikey from MtGox today on: July 16, 2011, 06:19:16 AM
It's little, the "up" side (when plugged into my MacBook Pro) has a small copper circle that you press.

When logging in you press it for 1/2 second.  When you release, it sends a string of text to the MtGox "Yubikey" input field.

I have not done a withdrawal yet, but my understanding is that you press it for 3 seconds (instead 1/2 a second), and it sends a different string.

When you first plug it in, OS X thinks it's a keyboard, but you can just cancel out of that, and it works fine.

With this, I'm confidant that my MtGox account is safe from hackers.  Is my MtGox account safe from MtGox?  I don't know, but they have all the volume, so they have me for now.
653  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Question for weusecoins.com on: July 16, 2011, 01:39:59 AM
Nobody should prejudge flexcoin.com without some hard facts about fraudulent activity!

@the founder: you surely could help building trust in your site by openly declaring your business practices and plans. I know you offered some scattered information in various threads but you could gain much from being more upfront with this issue. Have a look at the introduction thread from TradeHill for a good example.

With Bitcoin relieving us from the trust issue in the payment processing itself, it shifts all the trust concerns towards the merchants / service providers. Please be aware of that - especially when you want people to entrust their money to you.

Having said that, I really wish you all the best with your site!

I agree.  As stated on the bitcoin.org website:

"Within the Bitcoin community, many are very careful with their security and identity. This is primarily for two reasons:
* There is no violent body to cover your back for you, or, more simply, there are no courts to seek assistance from if your transaction sours.
* One’s reputation is the most important thing that any user has; traders will take very little risk with new users who have not proven themselves (as they could just be last week’s scammer with a new identity)"

As stated, if I send you BTC, it's yours.  There is NO WAY I can get it back.  There's no filing a dispute.  Therefore, I have to totally trust you.  You have to give me reason to trust you.

For this reason, many on these boards are very quick to cry "scammer!".  Maybe too quick, but you can see the reasons.

That said, we need a BTC bank.  So I want to trust you.  I look forward to your posts this weekend.
654  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Ponzi scheme argument on: July 15, 2011, 06:17:00 PM
Let me guess.

These people at "slash dot" i must be a noob for not knowing or caring what slash dot is, I'm assuming it's just another site like reddit for random people to voice their opinions on topics..

I'm assuming they have nothing to do with bitcoin and are looking at it from the outside.

Therefore in my eyes, their opinion just doesn't matter.  As American's most of us think we're doing good by occupying all of these countries overseas.  Do we give a fuck what some jihadist thinks about our invasion?  absolutely not.. his opinion doesn't matter at all.

Slashdot is one of the original "Reddit" type sites.  It started in the late 1990's.  I joined in 1998, so it was around then, at least.  You could say Reddit and Digg are "Slashdot-type" sites.

But like any tech-heavy discussion site (say, like forums.bitcoin.org) you have a lot of smart people who think they know everything.  And Slashdot's users are consistently wrong about what they think will catch on with the "general population".  For example, they all thought the Apple iPad would be a huge failure.

So, looking at it that way, if the Slashdot users think Bitcoin will fail, it's now guaranteed to succeed!
655  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What products and services are inherently better bought with BTC? on: July 15, 2011, 04:53:30 AM
Gambling.

Quick in, quick out.  Both the gambler and the house are sure they got paid.  No one knows your name.  Easily divisible for strange odds.
656  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Worlds First Bitcoin Tattoo [NSFW] on: July 14, 2011, 04:55:49 AM
I realize I'm pissing into the wind here, but:

Even if a woman really IS a whore (and I'm not saying or implying that MsBitcoin is or even seems to be), a gentleman does not call her a whore.

So, the question is, do you want to be a gentleman, or an asshole?

I think many of you have already answered that question.
657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buying a lottery ticket with your electrical bill. on: July 14, 2011, 04:47:39 AM
I have emerged. It's great...this is like, the trolliest forum I have ever seen.

We don't present a very nice face to the world, do we?

"Bitcoin, We're The Trolliest!"

659  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Getting >50% packet loss to tMtGox on: July 14, 2011, 03:52:54 AM
I get a big delay in the traceroute at "unknown.prolexic.com (72.52.5.67) "

A visit to prolexic.com shows Prolexic "provides class-leading global DDoS mitigation service"

660  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Getting >50% packet loss to tMtGox on: July 14, 2011, 03:46:34 AM
Hello.  MtGox is super slow, so I checked and I'm getting 52% packet loss to them. (I'm in the USA, Southern California)

Is anyone else having trouble?
