181  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CHA] Chancecoin, a coin for betting in a decentralized casino on: September 06, 2014, 11:20:00 PM
I'm all for SuperNET. The only problem I see so far, and the reason we haven't applied to join yet, is that the cost is not zero. My understanding is that SuperNET is going to want to hold 10% of our coin supply, and we're going to have to find a way to raise 50k CHA to give to them. (Correct me if I'm wrong here please.) Given that's the case, I ask the community, how can we make that happen?

If I understand correctly you don't "give them" 10% of our coin supply. SuperNET is going to buy 10% of the coin supply in poloniex or from users. That is why SuperNET is having a "big" crowd funding so they will have the btc they need in order to buy the coins they think are undervalued and have good potential to grow in the future.

edit: after verifying this with James (jl777), what i said above is correct. SuperNET is looking to purchase coins for their portfolio, it is not a donation of coins.

@devs please apply to join asap  Cheesy

This is correct. The exact amount is negotiated with me after the applicant is successful in their screening.
182  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is bitcoin a failure? on: September 04, 2014, 11:38:34 AM
Definitely not. I think BTC has grown so rapidly these last few years beyond people's wildest expectations. You are only looking at the short term. Bitcoin has (for years) always gone through its highs and lows.
183  Other / Off-topic / Re: Ask TF thread on: September 04, 2014, 11:31:52 AM
Why would anyone buy a tainted account like his? Granted its a VIP account, I think but with so many negative trust it really isn't worth much, if anything. My coin is that its the real TF, it may not be, but it makes no sense that it wouldn't be..

Bingo. I think this account was purchased months ago which is why there was a brief period of silence. The 'new' TF doesn't write like the old one and seems more upbeat. On why someone would buy such a tainted account, probably for attention. Which he/she is getting.
184  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Low-cost Firefox Phones Could Bring Bitcoin to Developing World on: September 04, 2014, 11:26:07 AM
I wasn't aware that there were bitcoin wallet firefox apps. This could really help firefox push their own OS into the market which is dominated by iOS and Android. Also fantastic news for those who live in developing nations with high national currency inflation.
185  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple or Bitcoin on: September 04, 2014, 08:20:26 AM
With the surge of 'crypto 2.0' coins, I am assuming people are starting to more grasp what Ripple is about. It was never intended to replace BTC, Ripple is pinned as an internet of value. It is creating an ecosystem which involves BTC (much like how many crypto 2.0 coins are trying to create ecosystems).

Sure, you could argue that XRP is directly competing with BTC but I see them more as complimentary of each other. I think BTC will always be seen as a store of value compared to XRP.

XRP = currency BTC = commodity.
186  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Could Make ATM Skimmers a Thing of the Past on: September 04, 2014, 08:11:54 AM
I predict old school muggings will make a comeback in localbitcoin transactions. Or a more likely scenario would be more sophisticated malware through apps if our phones start becoming wallets (which is already a trend being set).
187  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Pizza for bitcoins? on: September 04, 2014, 07:22:45 AM
I'm curious that where is Laszlo right now? Did he suicide or did he keep another 10.000 BTC and now living in a castle in Florida?  Tongue

I believe that he doesnt have any BTC's left, BUT is obviously living. Tongue
I wonder what happened to the coins that were used to buy the pizza.
Has the man to receive them used them wisely or lost them somewhere along the way.

I do think that the guy who spent 10K BTC had more. One does simply not spend all his Bitcoin on 1 product, not now, not back then.

I guess he doesn't want to bring attention to himself. It is not often a pizza boy becomes a millionaire from delivering pizza.
188  Economy / Speculation / Re: Serious question. Who SELLS at this level? on: September 04, 2014, 07:19:30 AM
There have been a ton of things that I have held off from purchasing because I am confident that BTC will be worth a lot more within 2 years. Between 'bubbles' I've resorted to alt trading to accumulate BTC before the next big rise.
189  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin - Losing faith...heres why... on: September 03, 2014, 12:54:10 PM
I guess this backs up the notion on why some people in the industry want to start using Bits. A lot of new people to Bitcoin do not realize that it is divisible and the price barrier hinders adoption for some. People will always feel gloomy about the BTC price at some point but you need to imagine how gloomy people were after the first major bubble in 2011. A lot of people thought they missed the boat but those people who held are far more happier now. I personally think BTC will continue the same pattern for years to come. And if you are too worried about BTC adoption, you can always diversify into altcoins Wink
190  Economy / Speculation / Re: Next boom within 3-4 months tops on: September 02, 2014, 09:07:37 AM
We won't see under $1000 USD again after the next boom. There might be a small rise at the end of the year with anticipation but I think something major needs to happen for a significant influx of new money (BRIC adoption, financial collapse, reward halves etc).
191  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Anyone else losing money, but still mining? on: September 02, 2014, 07:27:44 AM
I remember I stopped mining LTC on a gaming desktop when it was only getting 8-10 LTC/ day.

Big mistake. You should continue to mine if you believe in the future value of that currency. It helps the network and you may kick yourself later down the track. I think BTC will be worth a lot more in the near future.

193  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you guys like watching documentaries? on: September 02, 2014, 07:02:20 AM
From the top of my head I really enjoyed Food Inc, a big eye opener into the industry. I knew the conditions of animals were bad, but seeing it documented was disgusting.
194  Economy / Speculation / Re: 350 dollars within weeks. on: September 02, 2014, 06:52:17 AM
Long-term, I think BTC is only going to continue rising. I think we'll definitely see a large rise when the reward halves in ~2016. Unless BTC is hit with some really bad news (Satoshi starts moving his BTC), I don't think we'll drop to $350.
195  Economy / Speculation / Re: The danger of the last wave of adoption. on: September 02, 2014, 06:47:56 AM
I agree. I don't know the exact statistics but I think it is safe to assume a majority of people who come into BTC are speculators waiting for the next big rise. That is why the alt section is so vibrant because people are constantly trying to speculate instead of actually use it.
196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SuperNET IPO - conducted by Poloniex on: August 31, 2014, 11:38:38 AM
Contact me if you want to be considered for SuperNET. I need to know basic information about your coin and what unique features it will bring to the network.
197  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: #IceBucketChallenge in honor of Hal Finney and bringing Awareness to ALS on: August 24, 2014, 07:09:34 PM
This person has very little trust. I would personally not want to donate via someone with this amount of trust. I have personally already both taken the ice bucket challenge to spread awareness and donated a significant amount of fiat money to this cause. I do think that BTC related donations does have potential for ALS research but I think it should be done in a more reputable way.

I have little trust? lol That means alot coming from someone that noone knows. You dont have to send btc to me at all that is why I provided all the contact information for ALS, sending fiat is GREAT! But for the crypto community that may want to donate BTC I can do that completely transparently, gotta love blockchain technology <3 Thanks for your input and I hope you have a great day!
No one has to know me, as I am not asking to do business with anyone nor am I asking for money to give to a charity. Yes, you can use the blockchain to be transparent, but this would only confirm the amount that needs to be donated. The blockchain will not force you to actually use the money you receive to actually donate.

If you really want to get people to donate to this cause via BTC then I would suggest finding a reputable escrow service to take the donations, sell the BTC on an exchange and donate to the ALS foundation. The escrow's reputation would increase the chances that people will trust that their money will actually go to the cause.

Thanks for your input. Coinbase is pretty reputable and all the transactions are stored publicly on the blockchain.
I will have to agree with itsAj on this one. The donations are not being given to coinbase. They may (or may not be) processed through coinbase however they are not going to force you to donate funds to the ALS foundation. To be honest this smells like a scam to me.

EDIT: especially considering the fact that the donation address receive exactly one donation almost right after the OP was posted and has received exactly nothing since then.
198  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Satoshi will ever spend his bitcoins? on: August 20, 2014, 04:10:42 AM

Another explanation for this would be the fact that satoshi was very serious about staying anon. If he did take up this offer then he would likely need to give up his identity for only $50.

No, he would not have.  Are you sure you understand how Bitcoin works?
If he were to receive the $50 then he would need to give up his identity. He could transmit the TX to the other person via TOR and keep his IP address secret from the rest of the network but if he wanted to receive the fiat from the other person then the other person would need to know where to send the money.

Well, that's a good point.
Exactly. You can only keep your identity secret if you are dealing with a TX that is done 100% online and via a VPN/TOR. Once any part of your transaction involves anything that is not online (including sending fiat to someone, or shipping of some goods) then the other person must know your identity and this person could potentially leak your identity to the entire world.
199  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to keep your bitcoins secure if you suddenly disappear (jail or prison) on: August 20, 2014, 04:02:06 AM
Simple. Don't get arrested. (Easier said than done, but millions of people manage to do it.)
There was an article today that talked about how ~1/3 of American adults have been arrested in their lifetimes, but a large number of those people are not even charged with any crime.

The only real way to keep your BTC safe in the event you get arrested and/or get sent to jail/prison is to use a brainwallet. Any other method would result in the possibility of the private key be stolen/found, and your privacy is significantly reduced if you are sent to jail/get arrested.
200  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will btc help me to save on bank charges as a international student ? on: August 20, 2014, 03:57:09 AM
I suggest you don't use bitcoin in this case for short term transfer, because there is a possibility that bitcoin value decrease and you don't have enough money to pay your tuition.

However, I believe as an long term investment, it is worth it.

I agree, I don't plan on ever spending btc or altcoin unless I absolutely have to.  For day to day stuff it's not worth it..... at least not yet Wink
I could not disagree more. We need more people spending their bitcoin for day to day transactions. The OP would subject himself to exchange rate risk, however generally speaking the price does not vary that much over the two days or so that he would be invested in BTC (this past week has been an exception, but prior to this week the price has been more or less steady).
