1184  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How I was scammed ...... on: February 06, 2016, 11:01:40 PM
Hi........I just wanted to give a brief summary of how I was recently scammed......mainly for informational purposes and so others can be on the look-out for this method. I also would like to hear if this is a fairly common way to scam people...or something rather new.     I know I will get a lot of ridicule for falling for such a blatant scam............but I thought this could be a learning experience, so hopefully I  won't get too many negative comments.   Tongue

The scammer saw my post and asked me if I had ICQ      (trading BTC for prepaid debit card codes)

I set up my ICQ, and we negotiated rates, etc. He was very professional, patient, and he said said "I'll go first."  (He would start the transaction)

He asked me to create a Bitcoin wallet on blockchain.info so he could see that I had the coins ready for trade. So I moved my coins to the blockchain wallet.

He then said that since he will be taking the risk by sending the codes first, he would like to view my screen to make sure the code is used properly. (There may have been another reason for this too.)  In order to do this....he wanted me to download a program called "Team Viewer" that allowed him "see" my screen in real-time.

I downloaded the program "Team Viewer" and started it up ...... he told me he could see my screen, etc......then somehow he asked to see my bitcoin wallet to verify the coins on blockchain.   Once I logged into my bitcoin wallet on blockchain........BLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAM....... I saw my bitcoin balance being withdrawn in a flash.     END OF STORY

So obviously, besides my stupidity, it was the "Team Viewer" program that allowed him to pull off this scam.  I'm still not sure how that program works.....for instance, how could it allow him to also be logged into my bitcoin wallet on blockchain???  How could two computers be accessing the same wallet like that?

Thanks for any input and hopefully this will help somebody in the future from being scammed in this way.   I appreciate any constructive feedback...........

No, i think it was a good step to post this since for sure you warned some people to be cautious with teamviewer.

What i wanted to know, since you mentioned somewhere that you scammed before, how big of a scammer were you? Since especially i'm interested into knowing if scammers on bitcointalk all play alone for themselves or if they meet in some community or so. Would be interesting to take a look in such a community, maybe watching scams on bitcointalk in realtime.

Only an idea. Tongue

Fancy things you can do with teamviewer:

- Black out the remote screen, therefore you need to install a "screen driver" via TeamViewer, depending on the connection that can take 1-2 minutes.
- Lock the remote keyboard and mouse

The easy and quick way:
So lets imagine i am the guy trying to scam you. I tell you: download teamviewer, personally i would send you to the real site www.teamviewer.de or .com (doesnt matter)
I will ask you for your teamviewer id and pass, its displayed when you open up TV.
I will connect to your system. I will instantly start to install the driver and black your screen in addition once your screen is black lock your keyboard and mouse.
No i have from 1 second to 15 minutes, in relation how smart you are, to roam around your pc. if you are using the core client and its open already ill send all you have to my own address.
as long as the connection is working i wll start searching for "wallet.dat" and copy each of those files to my system (in case you have other coins i would note which wallets you have installed.
if my connection is still working and i was prepared to scam you i might install some nasty tools or start to delete files and maybe uninstall some devices.
Sooner or later you might have come to the idea to switch your pc off, disable wireless (if oyu have a button for it) or pull your ethernet cable.

If you using something like electrum (what i do) you cant just send coins without a pw.

Anyways: NO WAY, coins vanish RIGHT AWAY after a connection is established. i mean the second someone is in. doesnt work that way.

op might have downloaded a poisoned teamviewer somewhere but i dont think so. you have to be cautinous about giving stranger access to your pc, no matter how the tool is called. some would be possible with a simple rdp invite.

its not the tool to blame, its PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair).
1185  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What to do with ill-gotten Bitcoin? on: February 06, 2016, 10:46:49 PM
This is a question I've long been curious about. Its entirely academic for me because I have no BTC at all, let alone ill-gotten BTC. But how would you convert huge amounts of your illicit BTC into cash, gold, and other fungible items without implicating yourself?

are you the lucky7coin dev, now looking for help?? Cheesy Tongue

1187  Economy / Reputation / Re: hero status account sold, PSA to any old trade partners on: February 06, 2016, 09:22:36 PM
people buy those accounts because they are trusted to scam others. thats a well known fact.
Do you have any examples of this happening? Since it is such a well known fact you should have no problems in finding many examples of this

you really want me to dig up people that bought trusted accounts to scam others? come on, you should know better than me...
1188  Economy / Reputation / Re: hero status account sold, PSA to any old trade partners on: February 06, 2016, 09:10:03 PM
Hey everyone. I used to own the bitcointalk account ruggedman_dan. I took out a loan on it and did not repay on time so I do not own it anymore. For the record, I did in fact try to buy the account back from the lender at a later time, but after disagreeing on the repayment amount and some time passing, he eventually sold it. That was fully his right to do...no problems with that. But I informed him that I would be letting people know the account was sold due to all of the trade history built up on the ruggedman_dan account. I just do not want anyone who dealt with me in the currency exchange forum in the past to come across any trouble.

Anyway that's it. I hope the right people see this and are alerted. Finally, I can indeed sign a message with old posted addresses to prove that account was mine.

Regards.

what does the OP wanted to do now by posting this message and also accepting that he has defaulted the loan and the collateral account which he has given is sold and now he is informing about that account. Whether the OP wanted back his account or he wanted the collateral account to be get negative trust so that the purchaser should suffer as he will get negative trust now from all DT. Like this then everyone one will start doing this then no one will accept the account as collateral for loan. It is really insane if that collateral account gets negative trust then this is also a way of scam after defaulting the loan and then with new account come and accept the default he has done and declare the account details which he gave for loan collateral.

This is the new way of scam by first getting loan on collateral then you go defaulted that loan , and then open a new account and tell about that collateral account details and get that account in negative trust so the loan giver and the account purchaser get scam or cheated.

people buy those accounts because they are trusted to scam others. thats a well known fact.
1189  Economy / Lending / Re: BUSINESS LOAN REQUIRED 100% SECURED PLEASE READ on: February 06, 2016, 09:07:40 PM
Another newbie scam attempt, this time with lots to read, to save time just skim over the text and go to the last paragraph where he/she asks for .52 BTC with no collateral and refers you to another website to view his/her trust rating on there with no verification its even the same person.
hey you this is not a scam , if you want to verify that I am the same person or not I am ready to turn on my webcam come on my skype id is subhra2c call me. I am not hiding come on let me see who are you.

it doesnt work that way.

Things you need to know:

[EDU] The Rule of "No Collateral, No Loan" - IGNORE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
How to sign a message
Bitcointalk Escrows

Read all of them and after educating your self ask again.

you can lock this topic the in the lower left of this page. thank you

you wont be able to buy a miner with that amount, first.
dont want to sound offensive but you "website" is far from anyone hiring you, second.
no collateral - no loan, third.
1192  Economy / Reputation / Re: Known alts of anyone: User generated on: February 06, 2016, 05:26:03 PM
It was a joke and a reference to a post in which someone claimed that I owned those accounts. Grin
Thats exactly what happens when I follow the "One emoji per post" rule, either that or my 'sarcasm factory' is coming up with incomprehensible products.
Miscellaneous: Maybe we should lock this thread until a solution for updating all the pending records is found.
I don't see why a lock might be necessary, the discussion can go on while we can track the first post that hasn't been updated in the OP. I believe Plan 1 might be a success, if 1) A moderator can help 2) Athertle comes back

BTW Mitch, is help from a moderator possible considering this is a stickied thread?

I was in contact with athertle because of the ledger and sent him a message. In on of our last contacts he stated he will leave the forum. I dont think he will come back. Best thing would be a mod delets his post. I am pretty sure he is okay with that

want to see my new awsomeness Cheesy
Well, I might aswell explain the situation here, since we're currently looking for a solution.
It seems like the table has reached its maximum. I can neither add a new line to it, nor add a second table below. In both cases, we are getting a BBCode error.
My current ideas are: Either the posts below OP until the first post by mexxer get deleted by those users and we continue the table in the first reply.
Or we continue the table elswhere and just link it in OP/post a screenshot in OP.
I guess both, mexxer and I, don't want to start the thread from 0 again (what would be the third option).

I tried cutting unnecessary lines and obsolete whitespaces from OP, but it didn't help anything.
If any of you got some input, feel free to suggest any other option.

screenshots cant be searched. get the people to delete their posts so you guys have some in a row
1196  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: report scamer sites. on: February 05, 2016, 08:37:03 PM
https://bitcoin-ex.com/
and
https://bitdays.org/

I am new bitcoiner so I went a lot of bit exchange sites include coinbase, localbitcoin, kraken, even BTCJam.

most of them are require bank wiring and it took a week to transfer money.

I needed in hurry so I search the exchange site that accept credit cards.

and I foound few and those 2 site are one of them.

I was stupid. I purchase $1000 each site straight in by paypal.

after that. nothing response from them.

I sent support ticket and try contact them but no. there is no phone number nor email but only through support page filed.
after realize that even there paypal account are unverify account!!!

how so stupid...

and that you guys have responsibility too.

I found that site from bitcoin WIKI link

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/How_To_Buy_Bitcoins_With_Your_Credit_Card

here.

1.1 and 1.5

I don't know. I claimed to paypal for refund my money but not sure how it gonna be. -wish me luck.

and yea. I think you(staffs) should edit that wiki so it won't happen again.

same as is said before: call paypal, reverse the transaction. problem solved.

oh dont mention bitcoin.
1197  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: dseamans scammed me in currency exchange on: February 05, 2016, 08:29:58 PM

I'm well aware what I did and I feel really really stupid...

In my defense, thread wasn't locked before and I didn't see it was self-moderated (hell I didn't know such threads exist).

Hopefully someone else will be smarter and search his name before they become his next scam-victim.

call paypal, reverse the transaction. problem solved

1200  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How I was scammed ...... on: February 05, 2016, 02:48:34 PM
So to be exact, how dangerous is it to use it when you A) download and install it from the official source and B) the user is not enabling the option that the other person can do things on your pc... so that he only can see.

Can this still be exploitet so that the solution would be to never use teamviewer?

Downloading TV from the hompegae is no risk at all. I could mirrior my screen to you all day long, you could just watch what i do. If i give you full remote access and leave you alone then, you could do whatever you want.
