Buy a bunch of PoS coins and mine those.

I'm really liking the logo on the new subreddit. Is it a duck, or a rabbit.... or a KEY?   Grin

Very cool.

good logo

68  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient HDD Mining | New version 1.1.5 on: November 21, 2014, 08:44:04 AM
How would would estimate the amount of energy used by the burst network vs Bitcoin?

I guess the biggest question is, what percentage of the time do hard drives need to be online to be used to mine?

There are a lot of assumptions in these numbers, but it should still give a rough estimate.

Bitcoin network electrical consumption:

Assumption: The average Bitcoin miner has the efficiency of an Antminer S4 of 0.69 Watts/(GH/s).

In reality, this assumption is very generous because the efficiency for most ASICs will be worse than one of the most power efficient available.
Total Bitcoin hashrate as of 11/20/14 at 11:20pm: 284,772,770 GH/s

Total electricity consumption (at a minimum): 0.69 W/(GH/s) * (284,772,770 GH/s) = 196,493,211.3 Watts = 196,493 kilowatts

BURST network electrical consumption:

Assumption: The average hard drive on the BURST network is 1 TB.

According to http://www.buildcomputers.net/power-consumption-of-pc-components.html, the average hard drive consumes 10 W. Most hard drives on the network are probably 2 TB or larger, but assuming 1 TB is a worst cast scenario (two 1 TB hard drives use 20 W vs one 2 TB hard drive uses 10 W).

Assumption: BURST network is at its highest difficulty and largest size at 9000 TB.

10 W/drive * 9000 drives = 90,000 W = 90 kilowatts

90 / 196,493 = 0.045% of Bitcoin's electricity at current levels

EDIT: 10 W is the most that a hard drive typically uses. Idling uses about half as much power or less.

And SSD hds are .05-.5 watts each (or less?) (maybe we can soon justify lots of ssd drive purchases  Cheesy)
69  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GAP] Gapcoin - Prime Gap Search - New Math Algo - CPU / GPU - Zero Premine on: November 21, 2014, 08:40:38 AM
Seems like the dcct cpu miner performs better versus the gpu miner.

Yep but he said that the method he is using wouldn't really work on GPUs - guess that thought crossed a few minds Cheesy

I'm just mining this for fun...lol....

An old AMD Phenom II x6 1055t I'm using does 25%~50% better than my AMD HD7970...lol

Seems like the gpu miner isn't fully optimized yet and still uses a good amount of the cpu also.

I think lots of gpu speed issues may be cpu related, look at gpu usage to see if there's a bottleneck. Hopefully someone can improve on the cpu part of the gpu miner, even small improvements would likely bump speeds.
70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Logo Contest on: November 21, 2014, 08:03:23 AM
You have no clue about mining and prices. How can you even write such a rubbish.  Roll Eyes
Rubbish? Well, ok, maybe the last statement is a bit too optimistic.

Well, let's see now for price. Very fine step movement for project. All good to project and goodbye, I am looking for new cpu-coin.

quark, prime, heavycoin, etc. - all "true-cpu" coins will sooner or later become "gpu"
it is inevitable, imho
He is a newie,he has no ideas of the history of so-called 'cpu-only' coin.
Such as Litecoin. Look where it is now. Being mined by ASICS. People don't understand "cpu only" coins. All that really has changed is the algorithm and I doubt that there ever will be truly GPU resistant CPU coin.

As someone who worked on optimized miners for when XPM and QRK were released, it was always just 'a matter of time' for gpus. You just hope that gpus are only x times faster/effective than 100x.

few hours, i just need to make final fixes, builds and tests and gpu miner will be yours.

Hi,

Update:
Working on another batch of updates and bug fixes coming soon, will put them to testing this week. If you have any requests just send a pm will add it to 'the list'

PHS has very nice wallet with fast start and fast sync. Thanks for your hard work, PD! Smiley

Please add advanced coin control features from Hyperstake!

Hi,

Next update already has some improved syncing.  Wink Should be out this weekend (1.6.6).

As for more advanced coin control, I have a PHS client cc with weight, age, and some other advanced info.

No one ever seemed interested in this before, but sure I can add them to a beta to test out.

I think everyone has to make up his own mind about this unfortunate discussion. But please, let's leave it there. This is the cap-thread and I suggest that's what we talk about. Bottlecaps. If you think they are crap, then I respectfully disagree but it's everyone's own call. Me, I am just looking forward to the 2,3 version Tranz is working on and in the mean time I am having a stake-party:)

Speaking of which I think things are pretty stable right now in Hobo land, so I will be beginning some development here this week.  I'll post some of the relevant code changes as they are done, so people can be free to test them out or comment.

Tranz any chance to add coin control to CAPs?? Roll Eyes

Was added months ago, check settings.

Also for whoever might do themes, noticed a fallout app (google fallout app) and look at images for some great ideas.

Silence and delay justified by devs hard work.

Dude. We need a logo.

It took me a while, but I was able to put together this awesome (imo) new logo:

 Tongue

for the longest time i always saw that logo as a rabbit took me longer than i care to admit it was a duck looking up

lol now I can't unsee the rabbit  Shocked

Just realized for the first time that it's supposed to be a duck.
I was always wondering why the hell they chose a rabbit as ducknote's logo...  Grin

I wonder what it means if you see the rabbit or duck first  Shocked, o wait a website has examples and explains  Cheesy

Funny you guys mention the mods deleting posts..
I haven't had a single post deleted since I joined last year.
After participating in this thread, I've had more than 10 posts deleted in the last two weeks.
Probably closer to 20.

is there a way to see the deleted posts?

Well it sends you a msg everytime a post is deleted, so yes.

I mean others posts, kinda curious what is being deleted, I do notice the occasional threads going 'poof'
76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient HDD Mining | New version 1.1.5 on: November 19, 2014, 09:54:06 AM
Think the best thing needed, imo, is a GUI plotter and miner for noobs and wide distribution, so anyone can mine with their hds easily and quickly.

3 clicks, 1.plot 2.mine 3.profit

Right side of this is a good feel for gui too.

So, how exactly betasharex.com works. I cannot say it's a scam, but it's definitely has serious technical problems.

I had about 0.0110 BTC:

Than I make order (for 2499 sat). It appeared but not executed. So I try to cancel it. Pending. So I make new order with my remaining coins (for 1802 sat). This new order doesn't ever appear, just pending. Both orders was in pending state about 12 hours. Than I got totally 186.72 SPR from my first order:

and it's dissapear (I got about 0.000107 BTC back though:(2499-2314)sat*58) So I now have 0.00571889 BTC and 186.72 SPR:

But for 2499 sat I should be able to buy 212.48, not 186.72 SPR. So about 64k satoshis gone nowhere. It's not trading fee, it's like some sort of glitch.
sorry for broken english again

It's a new exchange , so I would expect bugs here and there, did you report them? There has been a few times trading has been frozen too.
