The definitive answer is no, but several organizations have been proposed.

Hi, I would like to pledge some bitcoin to this cause. I will give 1 bitcoin to each organization until I run out of bitcoins. So, put me down for 1+, you never know what will happen in the future, right?

Since the price of bitcoins is just continuing to fall, I might as well give them away before they loose all value  Grin

Oh, and I already sent 1 bitcoin to the address.

Phin, could you change #66 to ]url=http://bitcoinX.com]bitcoinX.com[/url]

I would like to suggest Amnesty International (human rights and stuff) as a charity to donate to.

Is it still ok not to honor before I know the charity? There are charities I would rather not donate to.

I am going through major medication withdrawal. I can't read anything here clearly. Somebody wanted me here but I don't think I can meet their request in my current state.

I'll happily consider being a spokesman when I can act intelligibly.

Count me in! 1BTC per org, 40 BTC max at the moment. I've sent 1 BTC. I may send some more later...

At the moment, it's not running on anything. I'll assume your speaking about where it's hosted and what CMS. I know my way around Host Gator and Wordpress, so that's what I'm leaning towards. Once set up, I'll have edd transfer the DNS.

Thank you, bitcoinbear, for you pledge, then immediately honoring it. The supporter list in the OP has been updated reflecting your kind contribution.

Sure will, and did, and fixed the link as well.

Amnesty International is now open for discussion.

You don't have to honor any pledge until you know which charity the funds will be allocated for, coupled with you being fully comfortable donating to any particular cause.

Whew! This is a blessing. I mean, I hope your feeling better soon, Harvey. (I PM'ed Harvey the same, wishing him well)

Thank you, DiThi, for your very generous pledge and the honoring of 1 BTC to the current pool. The supporter list has been updated reflecting your kind contribution.

Bruno, add me to your list. Per your rules 1 coin each time a charitable organization is ready to embed a Bitcoin donation button with the proviso that you don't get a flood and tap me out of coins in a week (although, I do hope it takes off that well). I just sent the first coin to your vanity address.

Edd might already have this worked out too but let me know if you need any help with the HTML or CSS for the site. I don't have a lot of time this month but I can chip in if you need it. If you will allow me temporary FTP access I can help you set it up. Just let me know.

Thank you, CornedBeefHash, for your pledge and honoring your first Bitcoin towards the cause. I can almost promise that there won't be a flood of takers, especially now that our spokesperson is over medicated.

I have no problem with FTP'ing, HTML or CSS. It's these--Pearl Jam, C-- (or is it +CCC), Ruby Don't Take That Train to Town, Monty Python, Java with Cream, among others--that I have no clue as to what the hell is going on. The first and last time I programmed Basic was on a Timex Sinclair 1000 I purchased for $19.95. I programmed a clock to run backward. Then, I put it back into the box, and got my money back. That said, when I
hit a snag
, I'll surely drop you a line.

I couldn't stand it any longer! So I went and did it. Hope nobody objects. I donated .8989898 BTC to the wallet to have the balance show a whole number. If you don't like it, then give me something I may like--500 lashes with a wet noodle.

Now I know that next time I can donate 1.00000001 which will bug you into giving me a "matching grant" of 0.99999999  Wink

Our family was terrorized by Homeland Security.  Read all about it here:  http://www.jmwagner.com/ and http://www.burtw.com/  Any donations to help us recover from the $300,000 in legal fees and forced donations to the Federal Asset Forfeiture slush fund are greatly appreciated!

Thank you! Non-round numbers are very upsetting to us accounting types. So much so that I was about to take those bitcents and stash them away from the public address until we actually make a donation.

From: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=53986.20
Internet Archive has added a link to their bitcoin address on their donate page:
http://www.archive.org/donate/index.php

In the bottom center of the page, there is a link "Our Bitcoin Address," which links to an anchor tag in the middle of their FAQ.

From http://www.archive.org/about/faqs.php#311 :
Quote
Can I donate BitCoins?

Yes, please do. Our BitCoin address is: 17gN64BPHtxi4mEM3qWrxdwhieUvRq8R2r . Every bit helps.

Don't trust me though, copy their address off of their site yourself!

Thanks Internet Archive!

Now it's our turn. Let's fill their wallet!

CoinLab is sending our donation now.  Does this qualify as the first "official" Bitcoin100 charity?

I'd be happy to have my 1BTC going to them, though I'd be inclined to send a bit more if they put a button on their donation page instead of burying the address in the FAQ.

WOW! I'm not able to answer that properly. I need help with this.

The following is my personal opinion and observation, only:

Clearly, this thread was started after the introduction of Bitcoin100: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=53986.0

It was started by Obsi. (does not matter whether Obsi is a supporter of Bitcoin100, or not)

Bitcoin100 was first mentioned in post #17:

I'm in for 1. I've used their site many of times. Will watch this thread and their site for confirmation of the address.

Maybe we need a project like the Bitcoin100 for non-charity projects like this, and wikipedia, and tor.  Or include them in the Bitcoin100?

That said, please discuss, because this may be an important issue.

Good point about having the info in their FAQ page. I have stated in the other thread that I have honnored my pledge, regardless of where it's located, as a goodwill gesture for them taking the initiative for adding a Bitcoin donation option.

+1

Though maybe it can work if we donate the current 60BTC amount first, then let them know there were objections to hiding the Bitcoin donation option behind a link, and tell them the rest of the 40BTC pledged will likely be donated after it's fixed?
