9  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Need Advice] - Getting screwed by Paypal! - [Please Help] on: January 16, 2019, 06:03:10 PM
Where you might be okay is that you verified their ID's. I'm guessing this means that you actually met them? Start by going and filing a police report, as this would still fall under fraud. Once you've filed the report you might be able to use that to hold off PP for a bit before they pull back all the money.

No, I didn't meet them.  I verified their IDs via Localbitcoins.  As far as I know they are in Kenya, I'm in the US.  Somehow I doubt the Kenyan Police (if there is such a thing) is going to give my plight any attention.
Pursuing them legally might cost you more than the amount you *might* be able to recover so it's not really a viable option in most cases.

How about a class action suit against PayPal?  Anybody wanna join me?  Stick it to PayPal and legitimize bitcoin all in one fell swoop.
It's going to be a very hard battle and the chances of winning a class action suit against Paypal is pretty slim. Also it'll be pretty costly to execute.

BTW, How did they convince you to accept Paypal? Did they have previous trust on Localbitcoins?

This is likely a bought/hacked account. @OP, can you sign a message from this address: 1AtomicQ6M5PpGjNNDmtFaNcAaT87RB7mn?

I've already signed a messaged from an older address than the one you're asking in the thread I linked in Attempt 2.
BTW, I can also sign a message from the address @TheNewAnon135246 mentioned but I don't remember posting it anywhere so I don't think it's a good indicator to check if an account has been compromised or not because the hacker could easily change the address in the Profile page.

Frequently asked questions:

Your trust summary shows this warning: "This user recently woke up from a long period of inactivity.". How do I confirm that you have not been hacked?

Below I have included a signed message from an address I used for taking loan repayment in the past. This address has also been quoted here, here and here so it's easy to verify that I haven't edited the post. It's also possible to check if the post has been edited or not by hovering over the posting time(Posting time will be underlined and show last edit upon hover if any modification took place).

Personally I'd prefer using Bitcoin Core or Electrum to verify signed messages over online services for additional safety.

Neither do I. Wink

I'm assuming you have multiple parsers that binds to different IPs to achieve 4 PPS without triggering the one page per second limit. Correct me if I'm wrong.
You are correct.  The parser uses so little resources I can run it on a free AWS server, so I could have an unlimited number of them.  But I don't want to overload the forum or risk getting banned - without Theymos' cooperation BPIP would not exist as it does now.  On the flip side, I wonder how much I am helping the forum by reducing people's research time and page views.  Smiley

As you can tell by the last parsed dates on a lot of reports, BPIP is doing a good job of keeping data in "near time".
Yeah, BPIP is an awesome project that unifies many aspects of user research into a simple interface and in return I'm pretty sure many users don't need additional visits to bitcointalk which surely does help reduce forum load. Wink

I project that once I am parsing posts as well, I will need a maximum of five parses a second.  I'm sure this forum can handle that.
Isn't it possible to achieve that with a single parser using the recent posts feed?

BTW, How do you manage to parse every user's profile without triggering Cloudflare? You've parsed ~23m pages so far. Wink

Time.  Smiley   Theymos restricts it to one page per second per IP.  I have a few parsers running in case one fails, and I parse about 3-4 pages a second.
Thanks a lot @Vod. I forget that darn sleep command. Tongue

What's going on here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=2380455

Looks like a case for admin intervention.
I think it'll be helpful if Theymos limited the number of feedback's that can be sent in a short period to prevent similar abuse in the future.

@Vod: Really amazing work you've been doing with BPIP.

18  Economy / Currency exchange / [Done] [H] 🅿ay🅿al [W] BTC [FAQ Included✅] on: January 08, 2019, 01:41:20 AM
I have a small amount of PP funds that I'd like to exchange regularly(monthly) into Bitcoins.

Available PP Funds: $0 - Paying 10% Premium over Preev rates.
I can only send payment as Goods & Services. I can also pay an invoice you've created.

Please send me a PM or post here if you're interested.

Frequently asked questions:

Why can't you send payment as F&F?

Paypal community Mods have mentioned multiple times that using F&F for exchanging anything of value isn't allowed and violating these rules will result in the option being blocked or even my account in some cases and that's a risk I'm not willing to take. Sorry.

Why don't you use a service such as Virwox for exchanging your PP funds into BTC?

First and foremost, I am not a very big fan of their fees but I still use them from time to time.
Secondly, They are currently having issues with Paypal Express Checkout(This has been written on January 08, 2019).

Why don't you use similar alternatives to Virwox?

Again when it comes to fee's they are no different from Virwox and some are even higher.
Still I don't find enough credibility associated with man of them so personally I would just prefer Virwox over them if their Paypal checkout was working. hehe

Are you willing to use an Escrow?

Sure. Pick any reputable member from the Most Recognized Profiles(Must be Top 100) who's willing to act as an Escrow for this trade.
BTW, I'd also like to add that using an escrow when dealing with Paypal(Read sticky thread) doesn't provide protection against chargebacks so please remain careful when accepting this method of payment. I feel I'd be doing you a disservice if I don't mention this.
19  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: SHARE how to exchange paypal to Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin on: January 06, 2019, 10:47:38 PM
tried it, worked fine thanks
will be very helpful for other users if you can share what your fee is.
As much as I'd like to hear back from @VINSIN I don't feel safe risking my PP funds with Cryptovoucher unless an in-depth review is provided.

I'm sorry for being skeptic but I'm unable to find any presence from Cryptovoucher in this community and neither am I able to find credible members mentioning their experience with this service considering the ease they bring into the process of buying BTC/Alts.
20  Economy / Reputation / Re: Poll: is it OK to send merits to your own alts? on: January 05, 2019, 11:13:04 PM
The main issue this community is trying to prevent here is low quality posts eating up the merits in our economy. Tongue
I don't know if that smiley indicates a joke but the reality is that (1) merits are not scarce and (2) merits that have been sent to alts probably wouln't have been put to good use anyway.
Nah, I just pictured all the low quality posts eating up the merits in circulation. I kinda imagined a large fish(low quality posts) eating up the merits(smaller fishes) we have.
I tried to find a picture to make it a little clearer but was unsuccessful. Sad

You're actually right regarding your second point but unspent merits in the ecosystem is still better than poorly spent merits.

My main problem with alt merits is that it distorts the relative quality of posts/posters/ranks/etc and indicates the dishonesty of the perp.
Agreed.
Making manipulative/poor merit spending a more frowned upon act in this community help increase the value of given merits/ranks gained from merit-based progression.
