You should start a poll.
524  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: when is the exact month it will go from 50 btc to 25? on: May 09, 2011, 04:16:34 PM
srry for the noob question, i just wanted to know the exact month, im pretty sure its next year though right?

210,000(when the change occurs) - 122,922(current block) = 87078(blocks left)

87078 / 7(average blocks per hour*) / 24(hours in a day) = 518(days till change)

518 / 30(days in a month) = 17.27(months left till change)

518 / 365(days in a year) = 1.419(years to change)

Here is a precise answer to your question assuming the average rate is seven blocks an hour from now(5-9-2011, lunchtime in USA)  till the change.

Hope this helped you Smiley !

*7 blocks an hour is an estimate, if you find a more informed prediction just plug it into the equation above for a more precise answer.

Going to try re-starting now and see if that fixes anything.

Edit: NOPE :S It seems my computer has suddenly developed an affliction with bitcoin.exe

I am running bitcoind.exe -server right now, but how do I know that it is actually working?! I can see that my miners are hashing, but when I enter bitcoind gethashespersec I see 0..Huh

Is it going to spit out a message or something once I generate a block? (bitcoind.exe?)

My bitcoin server is set up with bitcoin.exe" -server. Is the difference important?
526  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need help on getting 6990 cards working on: May 05, 2011, 04:52:12 PM
Hello All,

I just purchased two 6990 cards, and using Windows 7 pro 64 bit.

I got a 1250 power supply.  Both cards are working on the machines,  I have two monitors working fine on it.

I did install the drivers from the disk.  I did not uninstall the old drivers and such for the 5870s.

I start up the miner,  nothing happens.   I do have internet access.

I also did check the bat file, and did change the device=1 to something like 3 and 4.

Any ideas?

thanks
c-rock

Just to make sure I understand, you previously had a working mining setup for the 5870s, correct?  Which means you already have a correctly configured bitcoin server.  So the problem is probably a conflict of an incorrectly configured miner or something is wrong with between the cards and the system.

528  Economy / Marketplace / Re: buying 1k btc on: May 04, 2011, 01:44:08 PM
why , is it a problem ?
don't know how it would be, if I'm paying first ?
Paypal transactions can be reversed, bitcoin cannot
I don't know about moneybookers or neteller but no one in their right mind would buy paypal from a newly registered member.

I've been on the  forum for a few months but I am still listed as a newbie, how do I earn a better rank?
529  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Stupid Question on: May 03, 2011, 09:46:09 PM
You should join one of the small pools.

Big/Small, doesn't really matter.  Unless the big ones rip you off worse with fees.

Has anyone done a substantial amount research on which pools are best?  I'm considering mining in a pool with a low end graphics card but I am extremely against fees and loss of profit from a pool. Could someone point out a good pool and list why it is better?
530  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: If you're thinking buying mining hardware, read this first on: May 03, 2011, 09:33:25 PM
The difficulty is limited by the price because most people will only mine when it is profitable.  A large amount of hashing power was added to the network after the rise in price by people who turned there miners back on because it was profitable to mine again. (sorry that's a bit of a run on)  I'm rather surprised someone else didn't mention this when discussing the problem with the rising difficulty.  I agree that to many people are using bitcoin as a get rich quick scam (who really knows what other people are thinking) but I know many people are mining because they really believe in bitcoins.

Do NOT use mybitcoin service - http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4489.0

I've transferred coins from mybitoin with no problem whatsoever(not to and from biddindpond).

MyBitoin is safe to use with the exception of bidding pond because of a faulty button on bidding pond.

Correct me if I am wrong.
532  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Problems with bitcoin server [solved] on: February 20, 2011, 08:50:28 PM
If this topic is already somewhere else please point me to it, thanks.

I am running bitcoin server 19 with a couple miners it works great but occasionally the miners say they cannot connect to bitcoin RPC even though the server looks like it is working fine.  When I restart the bitcoin program every works just fine again. What is going on?

P.S. I do NOT restart the miners when I restart the bitcoin server.
P.P.S. This problem occurred my previous bitcoin server as well.

I downloaded the new bitcoin version 3.20 and the glitches stopped.
